PJO ROMAN DEMIGOD HEADCANONS:🔥 VULCAN: GOD OF FIRE, METALWORKING, AND THE FORGE 🌋
Author’s Note: 🖖Again, another shorter work due to how abysmally little Romans had for Vulcan compared to other Roman gods so I'll have to pair the Vulcan imagine with his brother Mars. ROMAN DEMIGODS H/CS MASTERLIST LINKS: [TUMBLR] // [AO3]
Vulcan’s role is a bit different from Hephaestus where the Romans saw the god as more of a god of Fire and Volcanoes, someone to be fearfully respected like Neptune, rather than the Greeks perceiving Hephaestus as a god of craftsmen and blacksmithing, and being clever. So as a child of Vulcan, you’re seen as someone like you’re a powder keg ready to explode at any time rather than someone who is capable of crafting something beautiful or useful.
As a child/descendent of Vulcan, you’re automatically placed in roles that are anything that has to do with fire and fire safety; believing that you would be just like your godly father where the destruction of fire could happen. Whether or not you have inherited his power of fire or not, it doesn’t matter to the Legion, you’re still assigned to fiery situations because you are a child of Vulcan, so you’re the next best thing. This includes being the one to load and managing the trebuchets, specifically loading fiery boulders to be launched for sieges.
While there is a need for craftsmanship and artisans in Camp Jupiter and New Rome, those spots are usually occupied already and are managed by the Senate, and by legacies of Vulcan and other people as well; thus being very limited and hard to get in. In true fashion, like in Camp, you’re either have to test yourselves to the forges and craftsmen to get in, or hope you have a letter of endorsement. There’s not many chances to show off your craftsmanship and even then unless you have a clear skill for it, you’re not going to be able to have much opportunities as you are still in service to the legion.   People always wonder why the children and legacies of Vulcan are hidden away but like a mountain eruption, it all starts to bubble up and you all show that you can’t keep the people of Vulcan away from creating; showing that all underneath the rock and lava, there are hidden beauties to be unearthed.

Hiya, I loved your Yandere!Athena HCs! Could you maybe write Yandere Percy and Jason x reader HCs, like in a poly situation? Thank you! ❤️
yandere PJO! Percy Jackson x demigod! darling X yandere HOO! Jason Grace 🌊☁️⚔️ - general hcs
Tumblr media
!!WARNINGS!!: yandere, obsessive and stalkerish behavior, manipulation, mentions of vi0lence and murd3r, overprotectiveness, jealousy, etc etc you know the drill
pairing/s: yandere pjo!Percy and Jason x demigod!darling
a/n: sorry it took so long anonie, i kept losing motivation lol
So let's start this off strong, if this was pre-Blood of Olympus Percy and Jason, they definitely would've killed each other for you soooo...
Let's just assume this is pre-Trials of Apollo Percy and Jason
You were one of the half-blood campers who went to New Rome for college
And by some stroke of luck (or not) you managed to catch the eye of two of the most powerful demigods ever known, Percy Jackson and Jason Grace
I'd assume that both of them would already be in a relationship with each other when you showed up
Jason would be the first one who would notice you
He had noticed Frank showing you around the campus while he was in one of the cafes and he was immediately intrigued by the reserved air you held about you
How you shyly thanked Frank for showing you around and how you looked around the campus like it made was straight out of Mount Olympus
In Jason's eyes, anyone who can appreciate the beauty of Rome is gorgeous to him
So naturally he developed an interest in you
Jason is a very communicative boyfriend and the second he realised he might have developed feelings for you, he immediately told Percy
Of course, it wasn't like he wasn't in love with Percy, it's just that you had caught his eye too
At first, Percy was pissed. Percy is a rather overprotective boyfriend to have and he immediately began digging up on you, to find out who had been attracting his boyfriend
However, when he started learning more about you, he couldn't stop himself from liking you
For some reason, you had the same effect on him that Jason did and he immediately understood why you had caught Jason's eye
The two of them had a long conversation and agreed to try to win you over
So they would start reading into you, finding out what you like, what your hobbies are, things like that
They didn't realise it but they developed quite the obsession with you, observing you late into the night, thinking about you constantly
Finally they approached you, on the pretense of wanting to welcome the new blood
You were quite flattered to have such important demigods willingly offer to be your guides and immediately took up their offer of friendship, starting to hang around with them more
I feel like Percy and Jason would genuinely want to be your boyfriends instead of kidnapping you or just making you fall in love with them so it would be easier to get you
They want a healthy, normal relationship with you but they don't realise that their love for you goes far too deep for a normal relationship
Your friendship would start off really simple, just things like picnics in the gardens of Rome, late night study sessions, the occasionally fighting monsters outside camp
Slowly they'd become more bold, starting to bring you gifts, surprising you with things that they had handmade from the Vulcan campers, just for you
They'd finally offer the option of joining their relationship to you one late night and they'd be absolutely over the moon when you shyly accepted
Once they're officially your boyfriends, you'd notice them competing with each other for your affection
It'd start off with small things, like if Percy took you out to a gorgeous beach on a weekend as a little relaxing surprise for you, you'd notice Jason eyeing him a little challengingly
Then Jason would take you on a surprise flying trip to wherever you wanted and and would have a lovely time with you, only to come back home to a rather grumpy Percy
Of course they still love each other, but they can't help but feel a little more competitive when it comes towards you
Honestly, it's one of the things that keeps their relationships going and it's rather interesting to watch at times too
I have this headcanon that Jason cooks really well so he'd learn your favourite food and make it for you <3 (just don't ask HOW he knows your favourite food since you never told him)
Percy is insistent that you learn how to swim so he'll drag you to the beach at random and try to teach you how to swim if you don't already know
If you DO know, he'll try teaching you tricks and will show off his own stunts underwater to general applause (although Jason keeps berating him for it since it makes Percy dizzy, he's usually on a lounge chair, watching you two)
Percy isn't very happy if you wear a revealing swimsuit but let's it go when Jason reminds him that not only can they both fight, so can you
He still glares at everyone who looks at you in even a slightly admiring way but usually Jason is there to restrain him from dousing them in sea water
I think they probably wouldn't punish you or such, since they didn't have to kidnap you to get you and since they don't like hurting you
I'd say the most they'd do as a 'punishment' is ignore you for a few days, essentially isolating you but just from them
And of course, since you love them so much, it's pure torture to you so you do everything you can to make up to them
Both of them looooove reminding you how gorgeous you are
Percy totally takes photos of you all the time with a Polaroid, no matter whether you're eating, studying, sleeping
When you stay up late to study at night, Jason is right by your side, providing you with an unlimited supply of coffee or hot chocolate, whichever you prefer
Percy would probably study with you since he isn't very good at studies either but he'd probably get really easily distracted by how pretty you were which results in Jason having to smack him on the head (and then kiss his forehead because he felt bad about it)
They NEVER forget important dates
Anniversaries, birthdays, special holidays you like, they will ALWAYS remember
Both of them spend hours with each other while pondering your gifts (and each other's but neither one of them tells each other that)
It's always a thoughtful, sweet gift whether valuable in sentiment or use
They spoil you as much as they can with what money they have
Jason leaves little notes for you all over your dorm, some reminders and some just sweet compliments <33
Percy definitely brings you random trinkets from his father's palace when he goes to visit <3
Both of them LOVE showing off their horses, offering rides to you at random odd hours of the day
If anyone dared to ask you out, usually Percy would pull them into his cabin to talk to them, with Jason by his side as he calmly tries to explain that you were already dating them
Usually, the demigods of two of the most powerful Olympians confronting them regarding a loved one, would have any demigod with any common sense immediately apologizing and promising not to do it again
If some idiot, however, ignores their (Percy's) warnings, neither Percy or even Jason can guarantee their safety next time they're in the air or the sea
They may not have as many powers over their respective domains but they have enough to cause 'accidents', small things that confuse, weaken or hurt the unfortunate fool who chose you to have a crush on
They wouldn't go as far as to kill anyone though, unless it's in a fit of rage (Percy) or they decide it's well deserved (Jason)
Overall, they're amazing boyfriends and the chances of you ever finding out about their obsession is almost zero since they're so sweet and loving that it distracts you from all the red flags <3
----------------------------------------------
a/n: the ending was lazy but kindly forgive me for that, it was like 3 am, I'm so sorry ☠️☠️

Gem lore maybe? /nf
Is there a reason why exactly she feels weird when she goes near Camp Empires?
Sigh, fine. I guess you get a little ramble. /lh
Demigod!Gem (legacy of Vulcan, child of Trivia) was previously an old camper from ESMP but died during a quest in preparation for the attack on Xornoth.
In Hecate's selfishness, and due to her worry of losing more children after the Second Titan War, she asked Persephone to steal her daughter's soul away so she wouldn't have to watch Gem wander Asphodel aimlessly. Hecate forced an early reincarnation on DG!Gem's soul by forcing the soul into a mortal child, into a life where she's safer and happier.
Mortal Gem became a vessel for a life she had not even lived before she even fully lived one for herself. She had to dream of memories of the past alongside memories of the future.
Hecate got especially annoyed when Apollo took M!Gem in as the oracle, who now has to deal with three souls in her body, with one having already fused itself to her original soul.
If the Empires members were to see Gem, they'd faintly remember an old friend.
If fWhip were to see Gem, he'd remember the child of Hecate that he boasted to about having a cousin that looked almost like her.
Either way, they move on. As long as it's not hurting.

FOREVER IS THE SWEETEST CON
masterlist | rules
❝ Can you write a angst image with Frank?(not a lot of people write for him and I don’t understand why)Like he’s the son of Mars and reader can be the daughter of Vulcan, and since their fathers don’t really like each other they forbid the relationship? Please and thank you 😙 ❞ — anon
in which you're never gonna love again
pairing frank zhang x vulcan!reader
warnings angst 😬 (but ambiguous ending ?!) also there isn't much dialogue in this idk why i wasn't in a dialogue mood while writing LOL
on the radio . . . cowboy like me (taylor swift)
an this is my first time writing angst on this blog hurray! also the only reason cowboy like me is on the radio is cz of the "forever is the sweetest con" line the rest of the song doesn't match LOL
You and Frank had always known you liked each other. Ever since he arrived at Camp Jupiter, you seemed to be tip-toeing around each other, waiting for the other to make the first move. Then, just as you were about to, the worst thing you could possibly think of happened. Frank got claimed.
Usually, you had nothing against campers being claimed. You did so much to help the Gods, summoning a shiny symbol above your head - and thus recognising you as theirs - was honestly the least they could do. The day you got claimed was one of the best days of your life, as you could finally rest knowing you did have a God for a father and this wasn’t all one giant hallucination. When Mars showed up at camp and claimed Frank as his own, you should’ve been happy. Anyone would kill for half the attention from their own Godly parent.
But you couldn’t be happy. Not when your father was Vulcan, the one God Mars couldn’t stand. Just like that, you went from hanging out every day to avoiding each other. You couldn’t be around Frank anymore. You knew where your relationship was inevitably going and you couldn’t let it go there, so you distanced yourself.
Even when you became part of the great prophecy, joining Frank, Hazel and Percy on the Argo II and setting sail for Greece, you stayed away from the boy, opting to hang out with the one person on the ship he couldn’t stand (and your Greek half-brother), Leo Valdez. It was nice having another child of Vulcan (or Hephaestus in Leo’s case) around, since you could now talk about machinery with someone you knew would understand. Leo was also really nice, and the two of you bonded over many things.
Little did you know, Frank hadn’t given up on you. No matter how much he rebuked his heritage as a son of Mars, he couldn’t help but be persistent. You were his first love. His only love. And he wanted you back. He missed the days he’d come stumbling into the forges, broken bow in hand, asking you to fix it for the fifth time that week. He missed the way your nose would scrunch up as you giggled, saying something along the lines of, “sure, Frank, I don’t mind.” He missed the conversations the two of you would have as you worked on his bow, your laughter bringing the cold forges back to life.
He was going to get that back again. He didn’t know how, but he would spend his life following you around on his knees, begging for you to just take a look at him, to stop averting your gaze and properly look him in the eyes, if it meant he could have you back again. Surprisingly, the Fates were on his side regarding this endeavour.
The morning of the first day of your relationship was sunny. That alone was a good omen, right? Well… sort of. Naturally, sunlight alone was too much good luck for you as demigods, seeing as you’d gotten attacked by some horrible sea monsters that very same morning. You had gotten it particularly bad, ending up knocked out with a broken nose and a couple broken ribs, as well as bruising all over your body. When Frank saw you like that, he knew this had to end.
He stayed by your side until you woke up, and when your eyes opened and met his tender ones, you knew you couldn’t stay away for any longer - Mars and Vulcan be damned. Your lifespan as demigods was incredibly short, so you might as well enjoy the limited time you had, right?
In the beginning, your relationship was good. You went back to your usual routine, except you were dating now. You could call Frank your boyfriend. That alone was enough to make your heart flutter. The two of you cuddled and kissed and talked and kissed some more. You planned your futures together - all the dates you’d go on, what life would be like at university, where you’d live after university, and everything in between. You couldn’t be happier.
You should’ve known the Fates would never be this kind to you. A few months later, you began seeing your father in your dreams. “Break up with that wretched son of Mars!” He’d tell you, “he’ll break your heart, he’s just like his father!” At first, you thought this was going to be a one-time thing you could just ignore, but your dad kept coming back. Unbeknownst to you, Frank was going through something similar.
Both voices of his father - Ares and Mars - spent weeks yelling in his mind to break up with you. It was the one thing the two agreed on. They’d give him the worst migraines known to man but Frank wouldn’t listen. He almost lost you once, he wasn’t going to let go of you now. But were you willing to do the same for him?
“I have to go alone, I wish I could tell you why, but it’s just a gut feeling. Please trust me, I’ll be fine,” you said, your eyes mirroring your pleading tone as you squeezed Frank’s hands tightly. You and the other seven were splitting up for yet another quest, and while usually, you’d just stick with your boyfriend, something was telling you you had to go your own way this time.
Frank sighed, knowing there was no convincing you to come with him. He placed a gentle kiss on your forehead and said, “okay, just promise you’ll come back to me?” You smiled then, promising you would. Why wouldn’t you? He was your sweet boy, after all.
How ironic.
It didn’t take you very long to find the reason why you were on your mini quest. On a random bench in a random park in Rome sat none other than your father, Vulcan. He tinkered with a piece of metal, throwing it to the side once he saw you approaching.
Patting the spot next to him, Vulcan said, “sit with me, Y/N. You’re not in trouble, I just want to talk.” For an absent father, he was pretty good at the whole ‘scary parent’ thing. You sat, wishing you had a piece of metal of your own to fidget with, but you’d left everything other than your weapon on the Argo II.
“So… what do you wanna talk about?” You asked. No matter how many times you spoke with Gods, it was never not going to be awkward.
“I think we both know what I want to talk about. You can’t be dating a son of Mars,” you tried to interrupt, to tell him that Frank was nothing like his father, that he was kind and thoughtful and caring, but your father simply shushed you, “I won’t allow it, Y/N. I’ve tried telling you this nicely, tried letting you do it on your own terms, gave you lots of time to plan it out and soften the blow, but it’s clear you won’t listen. So, I’m giving you two options. Either you break up with him, or I’ll make sure he regrets ever speaking to you.”
You gaped up at your father, not bothering to stop the tears from flowing down your cheeks. He didn’t say a word after that, he just got up and left. You let him. You never wanted to see him again. However, you also knew he was serious about his threat. You couldn’t let him hurt Frank, even if it meant you’d break both your hearts in the process. It was better for Frank to be heartbroken than to face the wrath of a God. He’d probably get over you and find someone better in a few years anyway.
And so, that was that. When you came back to the ship, everyone had noticed the way your mood shifted, especially Frank. When he’d asked you what was wrong, you took a deep breath and pushed the words out of your mouth: that you’d realised you didn’t love him anymore, and that you wanted to break up. When he’d asked for further explanation, you’d simply run off to your room.
Frank wasn’t an idiot. The rest of the crew gave him looks filled with pity, and even Leo had offered to talk to you, to maybe see if there was more to the story, but Frank didn’t need him to do that. He knew what the story was, and couldn’t believe it took him this long to realise it. Of course your father must’ve been nagging you about your relationship too.
As a son of Mars, Frank was persistent. Whilst you muffled your sobs with your pillow, hugging the little teddy bear plushie he’d bought you, Frank began planning how he’d win you back. The one thing both Mars and Vulcan had forgotten to take into account was the fact that no matter how far apart you place them, opposites always attract.

I have two minds to answer this, because part of me is going 'WE GOT EM!!! WE GOT EM!!' While the other part of me is like 'oh god how do I tell them. Who’s going to tell them.' The easiest way I can explain: Tom, Ben, and Harry are not in a minecraft series together, and the lore that I have for them is not based in any actual series. HOWEVER. DON’T LET THE TRAGIC TRUTH MAKE YOU CLICK AWAY /silly so I can explain properly LMAO
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s a TLDR for anyone who likes these guys and is a lil interested in them!!
Most of the lore for these three is based on an amalgamation of inside jokes, non-minecraft character trends, and general yogs minecraft world lore!
Tom was an editor (now has a YouTube channel, AngoryTom) and did behind-the-scenes minecraft prep for the Yogscast for so long that he was never really interested in any actual "main channel" series besides [Dig Site - 10 episodes] with Simon, Lewis, and Ben, and [Skyblock - 2 episodes] with Ben! Although he’s also played several npcs throughout various main channel series since he was helping run the show lol. My take on his character is that he’s a former yoglabs employee due to [YOGLABS CLASSIFIED INFORMATION] and now lives his laziest life ever in an undisclosed remote location. He’s also the demigod of death but he’ll never tell
Ben started doing main series mc content a few years ago, but hasn’t done anything mc with Tom and Harry until recently (see below)! His character is a Shark Hybrid due to [YOGLABS CLASSIFIED INFORMATION] who now lives with Tom at the same undisclosed remote location.
Harry has been an insane speedrunning minecraft legend for ages, but was never in any main series content bc he’s actually a graphic designer for the yogs. But he was part of Iskall’s twitch vault hunter event back in November, and he’s now in the [Vault Hunter Series - Ongoing] with Ben and Duncan on YouTube! <3 so there’s plenty of mc content of Harry and Ben, but not so much Tom. c!Harry has lived remote for as long as he can remember, locked in Hardcore, until…?
But again, I base their backstories on a bunch of kinda loosely connected lore dots that are half based on jokes <3
Below the read more includes: links to clips, compilations, and very brief lore explanations (though you can check my other lore drawings in Tom’s tag (#Angory Tom), Ben’s tag (#bedgar), Harry’s tag (#brryhrry) or posts that have any of them, which should be under the (#the outcast trio) tag)!
BEN AND TOM
I’ve been in love with Ben and Tom as a duo forever, since the TTT (modded Trouble in Terrorist Town) days, where Ben’s player model was Left Shark, and Tom’s model was Emperor Palpatine (yes from Star Wars. I can’t stand them). But Ben and Tom have been yogs editors and Behind The Scenes guys forever, so it wasn’t until more recently that they became known personalities in the main yogscast circle (4-5 years is pretty recent in the 10+ years of yogs content timeline LMAO).
Through Warhammer streams and behind the scenes stuff, I kinda fell in love with their chemistry and idiocy, and they worked so well with the “main cast” that I just had to put them in the yogs minecraft universe, somewhere. Turns out, Tom had actually done a majority of the "behind the scenes" work for the Yoglabs series (he built a majority of the main building, did mod research and testing, was present during recordings to make sure things went well, stuff like that) so it only made sense to have his character be the Right Hand Man/ Behind The Scenes Assistant to Xephos (Lewis), the Morally Questionable Head of Yoglabs.
For anyone who’s unfamiliar with Yoglabs, it’s one of the yogs’ more famous series featuring Simon (Honeydew) and Lewis (Xephos) where they tested mods! more info can be found here!
c!Tom also ended up as a Lumian (the fanon alien space species for the yogs fandom, vaguely inspired by Star Trek Vulcans) because of a one-off joke where one of the Yogs artists drew him as a star trek commander, and I really didn’t need any further reason to make him a weird little guy LDKFJG
As far as the “demigod of death” thing goes, it felt right to give him a lore thing that vaguely coordinated with the whole “Emporer Palpatine” vibe, since that’s kinda the mc skin he’s used most recently. There’s another reason there that I don’t think I’ve properly explained, so I’ll leave the rest of that be for now ;]
Ben, on the other hand, plays a shark character in pretty much every video game he ever participates in, so shark hybrid was a pretty obvious way to go. And of course, since the duo had to be in the same place… involving Ben’s shark Hybrid-ness with yoglabs experimentation made good sense and good angst. What can I say :]
Here are the bigger lore posts I’ve made so far (in the order i posted them i believe!), explaining in a little more detail plus art to go with! :] [x] [x] [x]
HARRY
Harry is kinda known as the yogscast’s token memelord? But in the ironic way. He somehow makes it genuinely hilarious idk man. His humor is very dry, witty, and sarcastic, but he’s a sweetheart and kind of a god at minecraft. I’ve been arguing since day one that this man should be in mcc but we won’t go there
There aren't many solo harry compilations, so here's a link to a Harry and Ben compilation hehe
Regarding his minecraft lore, pretty much all of it is based around the idea that he’s a god at speedrunning and hardcore Minecraft. A common consensus in yogscast minecraft lore is that respawning is actually a Yoglabs-based mechanic tied to clones and clone making. I thought it would be interesting if Harry could be tied to a hardcore element in the yogs lore purely by having Somehow slid under yoglabs’ radar. And since he was never in any main channel (aka modded) series, i usually associate him with Vanilla mechanics, and since i also view mods as a Yoglabs-related lore element, it made sense! So basically— no clones, no respawns, no mods!
except that he’s in a main channel series now. So I’ll need to find a new lore reason around that DTBJDFGHK
And his design, well… this man’s skin is straight up Mr Mime, and there’s only so much I can do with that /silly But he’s a HUGE Pokémon fan! He’s played a couple of Disaster Nuzlockes with Lydia from the yogs a year or so ago, if that’s something you’re interested in! Was a huge comfort series for me for the longest time and rly good background noise, theyre soooo good at Pokémon I promise <3
Harry does more twitch stuff (hrry on twitch) than youtube stuff, so twitch is the best place to check him out if you're interested in his solo content!
Last thing I'll say about him is that he designed and ran an original minecraft minigame called "Capture the Wool" and he and Martyn are the hosts for a few episodes i think! i dont think there's any way to explain how entertaining it is to listen to him announce the chaos of yogs members trying to play competitive minecraft LOL
Um, so. TLDR…2, These guys are basically my ocs and now I get Actual minecraft content from them which is crazy. I love them as content creators and cool guys so so much though, so! Definitely recommend listening to these idiots (affectionate) babble and ramble to each other, mc or not <3

I don't know if you continue doing this but I would love to know about Greek AU (hard to choose all sounds interesting).
BTW I fcking love your art in all of its shapes.
Oh, the naughty mythology one!
Back in May I drew a Pompep art based on Edward McCartan's Nymph and Satyr (1920) sculpture. The story idea came later.
Tumblr media
You can view the full version here (warning: very Greek nudity)
I don't have much of a story yet, just an outline. Basically, Danny is a human who got cursed or something and turned into a water nymph and now is forced to serve a small-time local forest goddess for all eternity. One day he catches the eye of a mysterious man who asks him for a drink of water (he's sooo thirsty). Danny isn't supposed to let anyone but his mistress drink from the golden bowl, but the man is so handsome and charming that Danny allows him. After refreshing himself, the man slyly offers to break Danny's curse—for a price. Danny agrees to his terms. Magic al fresco loving ensues.
The goddess catches wind (or water, whatever) of the affair and crashes their pillowtalk. In a fit of jealousy threatens to kill Danny for his insubordination. As she moves to strike him down, her hand is caught (!!) by the man, who has leapt to Danny's defense. He is actually Vulad, the demigod son of the fire god, Vulcan (I know I'm mixing Greek and Roman religion here, bear with me) who has been freed from punishment (forced to live as a man for some crime or another; probably being too promiscuous).
Anyway, he is way more powerful than this mid goddess and easily defeats her. Danny begs Vulad aka Vlad not to kill her, and Vlad grudgingly lets her go.
I haven't really decided how to end this one. Is Danny still a nymph? Will Vlad allow him to return home, or will he sweep him away to his great big stratovolcano castle? Either way, fire and water—it's gonna be steamy 🌋

The Daughter of Poseidon (Heroes of Olympus Fanfic) Part One
A/N: Starts with the lost hero and will end with The Blood of Olympus. There'll be references and flashbacks to Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Tumblr media
Campers gather around the lake. In the lake's shallow waters, a golden chariot smolders as a group of people emerges.
A sandy-haired girl shoves her way to the shoreline.
“Annabeth! What happened?” she calls out. She crosses the sand. Worry bubbles within as she glances behind Annabeth not recgonizing any of the three kids behind her. Where is he?
“Della–” Annabeth starts, but is cut off.
Will comes up behind Della with a stormy look on his face. His arms cross over his chest,
“Annabeth I said you could borrow the chariot not destroy it!”
“Will I’m sorry,  I’ll get it fixed, I promise,” Annabeth sighs.
“You didn’t find him did you?” asks Della. She fidgets with her necklace. Four beads for each summer at camp and a small piece of aqua sea glass wrapped in a cord.
“These are the ones? Way older than thirteen. Why haven’t they been claimed yet?” asks Will.
Annabeth pinches the bridge of her nose.
“Claimed?” a scrawny kid asked.
“No, I didn’t find Percy,” Annabeth says ignoring the scrawny kid.
Murmurs erupt from the crowd.
“Well,” Drew says, “I hope they’re worth the trouble.”
Della tries not to roll her eyes. Sure, these kids weren’t Percy but were still worth saving at the end of the day.
“Gee thanks,” says the skinny one, “What’re we your new pets?”
“No kidding,” says the other boy, “How about some answers before you start judging us–like what is this place–why are we here, how long do we have to stay?”
The world seems to dull around Della when she fully looks at him. Grey-blue eyes and angelic blonde hair are all she can see.  A warm feeling encapsulates her. Something she hasn’t felt since–something she hasn’t thought she’d ever be able to really feel again–something she hasn’t felt since she met Luke four years ago.
The girl in the group crosses her arms and scoots closer to the boys. Behind her choppy hair, Della could see just how beautiful she was.
“Jason,” Annabeth says, “I promise we’ll answer your questions. And Drew–” Annabeth gave her a pointed look, “all demigods are worth saving. But I’ll admit, this trip didn’t accomplish what I’d hoped.”
“We didn’t ask to be brought here you know,” says the girl.
Drew sniffs and points her nose in the air, “And no one wants you here hon. Does your hair always look like a dead badger?”
Piper about lunges at her when Annabeth stops her.
Della glares at Drew, “Dang Beth I would’ve loved to see her strangle Tanaka.”
Drew looks about ready to snark back–
“We need to make our new arrivals welcome,” says Annabeth. She trails on about assigning them guides.
Suddenly, the other campers gasped. Above the skinny kid’s head appears a symbol of fire, Hephaestus.
“That is claiming,” says Annabeth.
The scrawny kid freaks out,
“Is my hair on fire?” he tries running but the symbol follows him.
Della suppresses a giggle. This one was funny.
“This can’t be good,” Butch mutters, “The curse–”
“Butch shut up,” Annabeth cuts him off, “Leo you’ve just been claimed–”
“By a god right?” asks Jason, “That’s the symbol of Vulcan right?”
Vulcan? Oh right, that’s Hephaestus’ Roman name. Wait–why does Jason know that?
All eyes are on Jason.
“Jason, how do you know that?” Della asks.
“I’m not sure.”
Della can see the cogs in Annabeth’s head turning.
“What’s a Vulcan? I don’t even LIKE Star Trek. What are you talking about?” asks the scrawny–no Leo.
“Vulcan is the Roman name for Hephaestus. The god of blacksmiths and fire,” Annabeth answers Leo.
“The god of what? Who?” asks Leo.
“Will, would you take Leo, and give him a tour? Introduce him to his bunkmates in Cabin Nine.” Annabeth asks.
“Sure Annabeth.”
“What’s Cabin Nine? I am not a Vulcan!”
“Come on Mr. Spock, I’ll explain everything,” says Will. He puts a hand on Leo’s shoulder and whisks him away from the crowd.
Della glances at Annabeth who’s eyes are focused on Jason. She stands beside Annabeth about to ask what she is staring at when she sees it. Dark lines were etched into the skin of his arm. It almost looks like a barcode with an eagle and the letters SPQR.
“I’ve never seen marks like these,” says Annabeth, “Where did you get them?”
Jason shakes his head. “I’m really getting tired of saying this but I don’t know.”
Della holds an arm out to keep the others back. Whatever these marks are they are rather unsettling.
“Guys give us some room,” says Della. “They look burned into your skin,” observes Annabeth.
“They were…at least I think they were. I don’t remember.” Jason winces and places a hand against his head.
Della glances at Annabeth. “What do you think?” she asks.
“He needs to go straight to Chiron,” Annabeth says, “Della would you–”
“Ugh no fair,” pouts Drew, “Why does she get to take him?”
Annabeth ignores her. “Course Beth, but we need to talk later,” Della says. She pats Jason on the back. “Come on Hercules follow me.”

rivals pjo au breakdown for those curious (aka I wanna talk abt it)
techno is a roman demigod, son of minerva, legacy of roman god mars and greek god demeter
minerva holds more respect in camp jupiter in my au than she does in the riordanverse
dream is a greek demigod, son of nike, legacy of poseidon
the basic premise which I've talked about is that the titan war happens without the two camps knowing about each other, but then something happens that requires techno and dream to work together on a quest
(techno totally had suspicions that another camp existed)
so they're whisked away by the gods without either camps being informed and are put together and told to complete the quest
not sure what the quest is yet.. but I'll figure smth out
dream was definitely a part of the prophecy during the titan war, though he's not actually a child of the big 3, but, rather, a grandchild
dream's a child of nike because I liked the idea of a minerva/nike parallel with techno and dream
some notes about the other people in the au:
george is a greek demigod, son of aphrodite
sapnap is a greek demigod, son of hephaestus (probably legacy of ares, but the greeks don't keep track of that as much as the romans do)
wilbur is a greek demigod, son of apollo (obviously)
techno and wilbur are kiiiinda step-siblings? their mortal parents got married and stuff and wilbur was super excited to have a brother and then techno ran away to camp jupiter and child wilbur was like >:(
the dream team have gone on quests together
at some point dream and wilbur went on a quest together
niki is a roman demigod, (tentatively) daughter of trivia (this may change)
ranboo is a roman demigod, child of trivia
tubbo & sam are also children of hephaestus/vulcan, not sure if they're greek or roman yet, though
tommy is a son of hermes. probably greek.

take in every moment (hold it close again)
hiii this is for the "movie night" prompt on my jasico bingo card!! short sweet and silly the three best things a fanfiction can be. and im posting it in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY seriously who am i title from netflix trip by ajr :) read it here on ao3
It stands to reason that a demigod legion modeled on the Ancient Romans wouldn't think much of technology. And it's true that demigods and modern tech don't tend to get along. It really shouldn't surprise Nico when nobody knows where to find a TV.
And yet.
“Seriously,” he finally complains to Jason, walking Via Principalis with coffee courtesy of Bombilo, “it's like you're all trying to become social outcasts.”
“I think the whole demigod thing covers that,” Jason says.
“My point exactly! Nobody is even trying. Plus, monsters can't get into camp anyway, so who cares if you're using technology?”
Jason shrugs a shoulder. “Yeah, but why risk it?”
It's cool but sunny, the perfect weather for Jason. Not that Nico has any sort of bias. Jason looks great in all weather, in Nico's completely objective opinion, but gentle rays of sunlight make his hair as golden as his sword and give his skin an extra glow.
At least six times a day, Nico wonders how the most beautiful person in the world is his boyfriend. Some call it insecurity; Nico calls it a reality check.
He checks back into reality in time for Jason to be saying, “Besides, most of the people here spend their whole lives either in the legion or in New Rome. Nobody is missing out because nobody is on the Internet or watching movies or any of that. It's a pretty insular community.”
“Not anymore,” Nico says. “Now that there's the exchange program, Camp Jupiter is going to start getting Greeks, and most of them spend their years out in the real world, experiencing real-world things, like movies and music and all that fun stuff you Romans hate.”
“Don't ‘you Romans’ us,” Jason says, swatting playfully at Nico. Nico doesn't bother to dodge, but he does grin. “But you may have a point.”
“I do have a point. If you really want the Greeks and Romans to get along, there can't be this massive cultural gap. The Greeks will feel superior, the Romans will feel left out, and then we'll probably have another war and I'll have almost killed myself bringing the Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood for nothing.”
Jason lifts an eyebrow. “Oh, is that all?”
“Shut up. I'm serious!”
“I didn't realize you felt so strongly about this,” Jason says, looking bemused. “Wait, why do you feel so strongly about this?”
“In case you hadn't noticed, I'm a little behind on popular culture myself,” Nico says flatly.
“Really? Why is that?” Jason asks, with a straight face.
Bravely, Nico ignores him. “I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone here. Get some Vulcan kids to put together a TV. I'm sure they can work their magic and make it monster-repellent or whatever.”
“And do what with it?”
“Start a film class?” Nico suggests. “I would get a Greek demigod to help with the curriculum, though.”
“You can just say Will.”
“I don't think Will should come near the curriculum with a ten-foot pole. He'll just put every single Star Wars movie on there. I was actually thinking of Piper.”
“Piper?” Jason shakes his head. “Right. Duh. Movie star dad.”
“Yeah. She's probably our best bet.”
“We’re going to have to run this by the praetors before we get any further,” Jason says. He takes a long, considering sip of his coffee, which does not contain nearly enough sugar. Nico tried it earlier and almost choked.
“We?”
“Yeah. I'm in favor. You're not wrong about the cultural deficit.”
Nico grins. He kisses the corner of Jason's mouth — just because he can. That sunny glow shines even brighter in Jason's eyes.
“Lucky for us,” he says cheerfully, “we have some sway with the praetors.”
The film class proposal is met with conditional approval from Frank and Reyna. “Culture in Film: From Classic to Contemporary” becomes the most popular course in the legion within days. Piper helps them build a curriculum, which in this case means just choosing fifteen classic movies — all of which she vehemently describes as “must-sees” — and expressing profound shock at the revelation that neither Jason nor Nico have seen any of them.
“But it’s Princess Bride,” she keeps saying. “How can you not have seen it? ‘My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die’? Is nothing sacred?”
If anything, at least her attitude proves how absolutely necessary this class is.
The conditions of the class are sternly outlined for them by Reyna: (1) do not screen anything rated higher than PG-13; (2) only select movies with some relevant message or theme that can be transmitted to the legionnaires; and (3) do not use the forthcoming anti-monster television for anything other than class use.
Rule one is easy. Nico and Jason break the second and third rules within two weeks of the first course.
“I can’t believe you even suggested this,” Nico whispers.
The classroom where “Culture In Film” takes place is silent after hours. At the front of the room towers an 80-inch, Imperial Gold television, the most eye-catching thing in the room. Just below it, there's a box Nico distantly recognizes. A DVD player — Demigod Video Discs, optimized for playback on magical TV screens. This, too, is constructed out of Imperial Gold. No doubt the TV and DVD player combined are imbued with some combination of enchantments designed to make them undetectable to monsters.
“I'm not a praetor anymore,” Jason replies, approaching the DVD player. “What can they do? Kick me out of the legion? Half the time I'm at Camp Half-Blood anyway.”
“Not sure that argument will hold up in front of the Senate,” Nico theorizes, but he's not really worried. In fact, he kind of loves that Jason was so committed to having a movie night with Nico that he was willing to break the rules for it.
“Then let's just not get caught,” Jason says.
That works for Nico. Their emergency escape route is to shadow-travel out, but since Nico shadow-traveled them in, he's hoping it doesn't come to that. Even the short distance from barracks to classroom has his eyes drooping. If he tries it again, he's liable to pass out.
Jason kneels and examines the DVD player. “Do I just…put it in?”
“I guess?” Nico peers at the player and the TV. “We should probably turn on the TV.”
“That would be smart.”
Nico feels around for a button and finds it underneath the screen. When he presses it, the big black screen turns royal blue, and digital letters show a message onscreen: NO DISC DETECTED.
Nico and Jason exchange a look.
“Is it weird that I'm more stressed right now than I was when we fought Gaea?” Jason whispers.
Nico laughs. “We're not going to get caught, Jason.”
“I'm not worried about that. I just have no idea how to work this thing. What if I break it?”
“I'll do it,” Nico says, snatching the DVD case from Jason's hands. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, another “must-see” from Piper that didn't make the curriculum cut. According to Jason, when he told her he'd never even heard of it, she got Leo to modify a disc for their benefit and demanded he find some way to watch it. Nico, having also never heard of it, got roped into the deal by some combination of Charmspeak and standard-issue Jason Grace-ness.
Nico removes the disc and takes a breath. “Here goes nothing.”
As soon as the disc is in the player, the machine whirs. The screen turns black again. Nico and Jason take a united step backwards.
“Isn't there supposed to be a remote?” Jason asks. At the word remote, a panel from the top of the DVD player opens up. Inside is a remote. “Oh, sweet.”
“Come on,” Nico says, throwing himself onto the nearest couch. Romans and their couches. They're an indulgent breed, these Romans, but in times like these Nico appreciates that.
“Is it playing?” Jason questions, and just then, a deafening blast of orchestral sound erupts from the TV. Jason yelps and staggers backwards, and Nico cracks himself up. “Okay! It's playing!”
“Sit down, Superman.”
Jason sits down. He takes the spot right next to the armest. Nico would never take the armrest seat. He likes to have an escape route. He's special like that.
(“Traumatized,” whatever. Tomato, to-mah-to.)
“So far so good,” Jason says, offering an arm, kind of gesturing at Nico to come closer. Nico obliges. Jason doesn't mind being trapped, which is his own prerogative. So Nico takes up every inch of space on Jason's free side. He's not so small anymore, but he fits right up under Jason's arm like the dark half of a yin and yang symbol.
“Nothing's happened yet,” he points out.
Jason just squeezes his shoulders. “I'm having a movie night with my boyfriend. Like a regular teenager. Everything is great from where I'm standing.”
“Let's not be hasty. The movie could still suck.”
“Wouldn't matter.”
“It'd matter to me,” Nico says haughtily. “I'm putting a lot of faith in Piper.”
“She seemed absolutely confident we would both like this movie.”
“So imagine how foolish she'll feel if we don't.”
“I'm starting to think your attitude is the problem.” Jason grins. “Open your mind, Nico.”
“I'm open-minded!”
“And shut up,” Jason adds. “‘Cause we've already missed the beginning and I don't know how to rewind this thing.”
“Not my fault,” Nico says. “I was just—”
Jason shuts him up by occupying his mouth with Jason's mouth, which is a proven top-five strategy for getting Nico to stop talking.
“Okay,” he says. And kisses Jason again. It's never any less awesome. “Shutting up.”
The movie keeps playing. Nico settles into Jason with his whole body and thinks about how this is the first time he's ever watched a movie with a boyfriend, and how absolutely astonishing that is, by itself. Even if it does suck, he figures there are worse things in the world than watching a bad movie with your boyfriend.
In fact, there might not be many things better.

Author’s Note: Alright, when I was writing the Greek demigods h/cs, I did keep in mind some of them and their Roman counterparts (i.e. Hera demigod), so when that one anon asked about doing Roman demigods, I got curious and this is my attempt. I do understand why there isn’t a lot but I gave it a shot. It’s not going to be the same for the Greek version and it’s not going to be very detailed since Camp Jupiter and New Rome is more limited than the Greeks, so that’s why. I'll also may update this overtime with more Roman gods, but who knows. Hope you like it and enjoy!

It should've been weirder.
That was the ongoing thought that ran through his head the last few days. It should've been weirder.
New Rome and Camp Jupiter tried to be as self-sustaining as they could, but it wasn't like they could completely cut themselves off from the rest of civilization. They had needs to provide for. Ceres' children operated a small farm just outside the city and they would sell vegetables year round. It wasn't much but it helped bolster their economy. Other than that, they were very lucky to receive subsidies from the gods to help.
The benefits of having all their children stuck in one place, Jason guessed.
At first, he didn't know why Pluto stopped sending them money though. Sure, they still had assistance from the others but Pluto was the god of wealth. His assistance was far greater than what the others could, and did, provide.
But for whatever reason they had been unceremoniously dumped out of the god's good graces and were floundering. Maintenance supplies were running thin. The farm wasn't producing as well as it normally was in the blanket heat wave that was going on.
Training had decreased with the need to maintain limited supplies. The god also provided precious metals to craft and repair armour and weapons.
Vulcan had been suggested to appeal to until one of the older members of the Senate noted that Vulcan also tended to gain most of his crafting supplies from his uncle.
So they were screwed. It was one thing to ask for help from a god. It was another thing to ask for help from Pluto. Sure, he was wealth and everything under the earth but he was also the dead and darkness. Inviting one had the risk of bringing upon the other.
But, when push came to shove, they were not wimpy Greeks. They wouldn't fear him and avoid him. They would invoke him if they had to.
They would request help.
And they did.
At a cost.
The god had appeared when summoned, papers clutched in his hands, eyes dark and angry. He was tall and lithe. Black robes dripped off him like shadows. His wrists shone with golden bracelets. An obsidian chain hung loose around his neck, glinting a soft silver flower pendant against the hollow of his throat.
Power hung in the air. It was overwhelming, catching around Jason's head like a fog. Everyone else in the area was affected too, knees shaking.
Death and money and power - unending, weren't they?
For a moment, Jason wondered if his father was really the most powerful god. Or if he had sentenced his oldest brother to the deepest depths to maintain that lie?
Pluto glowered at them all but heard them out. And merely shrugged when they asked for him to resume his help.
"Why should I?" he had mused. He eyed them all slow. "I assisted in the past because I had stake in this place. My children, my wife's children - do you see them around you now?"
Pluto never had many kids to begin with. His last child died about a decade before in the middle of a rescue mission. And while Proserpina tended to have one or two demigods per lifetime, her current daughter was her only living mortal child.
And she had finished out her service with the legion weeks ago but chose to attend a university outside the city. Somewhere closer to her mortal father.
It was unclear if she ever intended to return for anything more than a passing visit.
"If Claire so chooses to return, perhaps I will continue my help but until that time, I have no interest or need to do so." He clicked his tongue. "Is that understood?"
It was.
Unfortunately.
"And if Claire doesn't return?" Reyna cleared her throat. "No offense to any other deity, all your help is appreciated, but you, Lord Pluto, have been much better at providing funding. We cannot make up the sudden slack on our own and we have tried these last few weeks."
“We're not greedy” was the hidden meaning behind her words.
"If your economy is dependent on one source, especially a source that can come and go as it pleases, it's not much of an effective economy, now is it? Perhaps you should have set aside savings for this exact problem." His eyes caught Reyna's.
It took her a moment before she relented and averted her gaze. "You provided my children and step-children with a safe haven and I thank you for that. But you don't do so now so I have no need to thank you anymore. Perhaps you will have to beg for heartier help from your own parents' and ancestors', rather than pull me from my work and demand mine without any offer of reciprocity."
“We did plan on offering you our services, Lord Pluto,” Octavian lied, because, no, they hadn’t. “But if there anything else we may offer you, we would be grateful to.”
Pluto regarded him like a bug. “Legacy of that blasted sun.” He rolled his eyes. “Just as annoying as he is, I see.” Octavian’s face flushed a dark red. His pale skin looked as though it had been heavily bruised.
“Your ancestor has one thing going for him that I appreciate though.” His eyes cut into Octavian’s, a sardonic curl to his lips. “He’s honest."
He didn’t want to but Jason was on track for praetorship and what good of a leader would he be if he left a member of his legion floundering?
“Forgive him, my lord,” he cut in, stepping forward. The god’s attention mercifully snapped to him. “As prophet, I assume he saw us offering you something in the near future and simply misjudged the timing.”
The cynical glint to the god’s face didn’t vanish but amusement plied on top of it. A chill slid down Jason’s spine.
“My little brother’s latest brat,” he hummed. Jason startled at the degradation but found, oddly, he didn’t mind it. Pluto raked his gaze over Jason’s form. A sensation of being pervaded, picked apart, hit him.
The god was looking too deep.
Jason wanted to hide himself, his soul, but stood firm and unrelenting.
“I suppose she’ll be fine with it,” Pluto said, voice quiet as though talking to himself. “And he’s been annoying lately.” He cut his focus back to Reyna.
“Well, praetor. I’ll take him.” He gestured loosely at Jason.
Reyna blinked. “I’m sorry?”
“The boy,” Pluto said. ”Don’t make me repeat myself again.” A silver shadow snapped up from beneath his robes and curled around Jason’s jaw, pinching his cheeks. “Yes, I have a fondness for collecting my brother’s children, I suppose you could say.
"One way or another, most of them end up with me. It’s been a while since one came down while living.” The shadow slunk around Jason’s throat. A light grip held against his skin. Coldness bit into his chest, spreading. “And I can see you’ll adjust well, as my wife and her siblings have.”
Panic was breaking out over Reyna’s face. Even Octavian looked baffled - although that was probably more because he didn’t understand why Jason was picked over him.
“Uh, my lord, Jason is-” Reyna gestured weakly into the air. “He’s the ongoing leader of the Fifth Cohort. And his assistance in many of our quests has been in-”
“I don’t care,” Pluto said. “My wife prefers when I keep company during the summer. Mercury has been rather avoidant of late so you’ll have to do.”
Company? “I’m fourteen,” Jason said. The words pretty much leapt out of his mouth without his noticing.
Pluto snorted. The coldness spread even more. “And?”
Reyna’s voice was hard. “He is not an adult - even by the standards of our predecessors!”
"He's a powerful soldier. Age is irrelevant." Pluto barely even looked at her. “Do you want my help or not?”
Her eyes went sharp, her stance tightening. Jason could hear the denial before she even said it. He didn’t give her a chance. “Okay.”
Her head whipped to him, viciously. Octavian glared at him. “Jason-”
“It’s fine,” he said. “It’s just company, right? But-” He rolled his shoulder. “-if I’m needed here, I have to come back. Even if only temporarily.”
“I’ll have each situation that requires you thoroughly vetted then,” Pluto said. “But fine, little demigod. I’ll have Charon pick you up in a week. Be ready. I don’t take to waiting well.”
The shadows vanished but the coldness that had been dipped thick into his chest didn’t. And with that, the god left.
And Jason started packing the moment they returned to the barracks.
It should’ve been weirder. It should’ve felt odd, standing at Terminus’s gate with a packed bag, waiting for the boatman of the Underworld to descend him into the depths of the Underworld and into Pluto’s arms. As it was, it didn’t. Not really.
His life consisted of being raised by wolves and being thrown into godly quests for the sake of both his home and his family. This was nothing by those standards. He did hope “company” was just going to be that, company, and wasn’t a secret euphemism.
If it was, he wasn’t saying jack shit though. Reyna and the whole of his cohort would no doubt go wage war on the god if it was. There were some things that were supposed to be left far, //far// in the past. And some of that shouldn't have existed in the first place.
But the god was known for being unlike the rest of his family, was known for being soberminded. Jason doubted he was being dragged down for his ass. Pluto had said Mercury was being avoidant. Perhaps Jason was going to have to pick up the slack.
"Relax, young Grace," Terminus snapped. His marble shuddered. "I can feel your bad vibes from here."
"I am relaxed," he grumbled.
Reyna scowled at him. She wasn't happy about this. But he didn't let her argue him. Best to stay appealing to the god. When they all died one day, it was he they would be sent to.
None of them needed a mark against them during judgement.
"Don't, Reyna," he grumbled. "Showing favouritism isn't becoming of a praetor."
"It's not favouritism," she said. He rolled his eyes. "I worry. What could a god whose wife is absent want with a fourteen year old boy?"
"My father kidnapped a prince while his wife was still present." Jason scratched at a mosquito bite just above his wrist. "So I think why I'm wanted is irrelevant to whether Proserpina is around or not." Her scowl deepened. "He's not going to do anything to me."
"You don't know that," she muttered.
Terminus heaved out a gravely sigh. "As much as you may find his ongoing puberty changes appealing, Reyna, I assure you that a god such as Pluto does not."
Jason didn't know whether to be offended or not. Reyna looked as though she was calculating the best way to shatter Terminus's face.
"They're not that bad."
"Your voice has cracked at least twelve times since you got here." Terminus sniffed. "It's very annoying. Do it another three to even it out."
Now it was Jason's turn to scowl. "I'm not going to crack my voice just to satisfy your OCD."
"Well, you did it anyway." Jason wondered what the god would do if he smacked him over the head with his bag.
Unfortunately, he didn't get much time to deliberate. A few feet away, the earth rumbled and a figure ascended from the grass and dirt, displacing it all.
Terminus squawked in a rage. "Hey, hey, hey! I just had that spot measured!"
Charon, the boatman of the Underworld, was dressed in a shimmering golden suit. In his left hand was a long obsidian boat paddle. He laid it to rest across his shoulders, head cocked as he took the three of them in. A classy black fedora sat atop his head. Somehow, the brim shielded most of his face from view, but Jason could see the flat line of his lips thin even further.
"Terminus," he said, his voice a near deep growl. "I see your haptics are still ongoing."
"I see your haptics are still ongoing as well."
Charon's shadowed lips curled. "Must look our best to those awaiting passage, mustn't we? But I wouldn't expect a simple headstone to know that."
"Headstone?" Terminus snapped. “Simple?”
Charon ignored him. "Jason Grace, I presume."
Despite Reyna's nervous gaze, Jason stepped forward. The strap of his bag was cutting into his skin as he clenched his hand tight. "Yes."
"Well?" Charon stretched out a gloved hand. "Shall we?"
Jason sent Reyna a fleeting smile and accepted the god's hand. A coldness wrapped all around him like a death shroud and everything vanished into an inky blackness.
They didn't hit the waiting area as Jason was expecting. Instead the darkness shifted to reveal a garden of jewels and gems. Rubies hung from tall poplar trees like apples. Petals of amethyst and topaz glittered from the dark earth below.
Populated between all the shimmering were asphodels and poppies and coveted patches of sweet-smelling lavender. The garden seemed to go on forever, but as he turned around, he came face-to-face with a wide open door.
Charon's empty eyes bore back at him.
His white teeth, pure as fresh bone, smiled back in the most spine-chilling way. He gestured in through the doorway. Instincts roaring at him to avoid, Jason stepped through anyway. The hallway was lit with black flames.
Shades meandered meaninglessly past him and through the walls. A skeletal guard stood across from the doorway.
"This way!" Charon shouted.
Unsettled, Jason followed. They walked past sullen doorways before reaching the end of the hall.
Charon opened the door with a click. Inside the room was brightly lit.
It was a bathroom. Of sorts. It reminded him somewhat of the communal baths at camp and the Wolf House but smaller. Tighter. It smelled sweet, warm fragrances alight in the air.
In the center was a large circular tub. Maybe three people could fit comfortably inside. Devoid of water, the bone white porcelain tiles glittered back at him.
Charon stepped inside, pressing an intercom button against the wall. He gestured for Jason to come in with a nod of his head then yanked him in forcefully when Jason took too long.
"Daisy, he's here." He released the button before another word could be spoken then walked out the doorway. The door slammed shut behind him.
Jitters drew up Jason's throat. He drew himself across the room before settling down on the floor. The door didn't detract from his focus. The air shifted against his skin. Someone was skipping their way to the room.
He tensed as the door swung back open. A nymph stood in front of him now. A crown of asphodels littered her hair. Wreathed around her neck was a choker of diamonds and poppies.
She was dressed in a thick black sweater, long sweatpants and a bone-white apron. Her feet were dirtied and bare.
She snapped her fingers. A series of shades flooded the room. One yanked Jason's bag from his fingertips. Another began pulling him up to his feet. As the tap turned on, the rest began pouring liquids into the bath and pulling out a bunch of supplies out of the nearby cabinets.
"Let's get you scrubbed up," Daisy clipped while the shades tugged at his clothes.
Being naked in front of other people was not a big issue for him. But the act of having himself stripped down for another, without any sense of warning, was not ideal.
"Hey- WAIT-" He slapped at a shade grabbing at his jeans. His hand just sank through their filmy form. "I can do it myself!"
The shade chattered angrily but pulled back. Quickly, Jason shed the rest of his clothes himself. The shade took them and handed them off to Daisy who scowled. “Do you ever clean these?” She sniffed it and shook her head. “Nope!”
“Wha-” A shade shoved him into the tub.
As he resurfaced, coughing and spluttering, he caught sight of Daisy pulling back a piece of floor. He pushed up to see what was below. Shifting red hot flames howled beneath the floor. Then she dumped his clothes into it and closed it back up.
“Hey!”
“The Phlegethon is the only place for those,” she said. “You’ll be fine with what I give you.”
Panic smacked him. “The Phlegethon?”
“How else do you think we heat the place?” She snapped her fingers again. “Somebody grab me a razor. His hair makes me want to vomit.”
Protectively, he sank back to the middle of the tub, hands covering his head. “I just got it cut!”
“Do I look like I give a shit?” A splattering of vined daisies shot out from her fingertips and yanked him back over to her. “Whoever did this was terrible at it. Absolutely disgustingly uneven. I might as well surface and slap them until they perish like they deserve.”
“That’s not-”
“Shut up.”
His shoulders tightened at the order. He resisted the urge to snarl and snap her, going quiet as she threaded her thin fingers through his hair. The razor tickled the back of his neck. Another shade approached him from the front with a pair of scissors. He closed his eyes.
Listening hollowly to the sounds around them, he held himself tight and still.
He was never all that good at getting his hair cut. It required too much trust in someone with something very sharp and deadly and Lupa’s training had instilled in him a general distaste of that.
Which is why he’d started cutting his hair himself. Reyna or Dakota would neaten the sides for him. Quick and precise. Usually while he was biting something to avoid from biting them. It only took a few seconds but it was hell.
A few of the kids Lupa trained had that sort of distrust of people outside their “pack”. Especially if she trained them young, like she had trained Jason. Although she rarely trained kids that young to begin with. Usually only because their families had died or had abandoned them.

Jessssssss
Can we please get a snippet of the next chapter?!
this is more for the epilogue, but! you can have it:
“There’s no record of you being in the labyrinth, though. Not even a rumor.”
“Finally did your assigned New Rome reading, I see,” he teased, earning him another playful flick in the arm. “There wouldn’t be a record. Our augur fed me some bad information about lost demigods, knowing I’d try to attempt an unofficial rescue, and I went for it. I got ambushed by Kronos’s soldiers pretty early on, so I think the plan was to get me killed or captured; either way, no one would know what had happened to me and might think I’d deserted. But I beat them, and I got lost instead.”
Annabeth’s expression had turned grim. “For how long?”
“Dunno. Couple days, at least.”
Trying to make sense of time in the labyrinth was difficult to begin with, but Percy’s memories from that time were full of holes, the threads jumbled up and frayed thanks to the trauma from the explosion. He remembered sensations the best — the endless darkness, closing in and hiding danger everywhere; the oppressively dank air and skittering echoes of claws on stones; the gnawing hunger and choking panic that still sometimes caused him to wake in a cold sweat.
Listening to Annabeth talk about it had awakened some of those dead memories. It’d made him wonder…
“At some point, I ended up at Vulcan’s forge. I was trying to figure out how to get around the telekhines when I… I ran into someone,” he said, watching her reaction carefully. “She was invisible at first, but — ”
“You knocked me over and my hat came off.”

Not to be rude I just kinda feel like I'm spamming accounts without meaning to jsdjsd -Danny Words: 2,706 Series' Masterlist Previous Chapter / Next Chapter Listen to: 'As A Child' -by Madeline The Person

II. Thanks for Checking In! I'm Still a Piece of Garbage
Ara's doing her best, but Leo's not listening, he's just trying to remember where he's seen Ara before.
"Do I get a sword?" He interrupts her as soon as they walk past the arena.
"Your cabin makes its own weapons."
"My cabin? You mean Vulcan's?" He smirks.
"Hephaestus," Ara replies plainly, Leo wonders if she's capable of smiling.
"Festus?" He tries again. "Sounds like the god of cowboys."
"Hephaestus. God of blacksmiths and fire and all that stuff Annabeth said," Ara repeats absently.
Leo makes a face, he's thinking of the term "God of fire", but Ara doesn't know that. "So the flaming hammer over my head—Good thing or bad thing?"
"Normal thing," she shrugs. "Everyone gets claimed as soon as they get here..." She glances in the direction of the forest.
Tumblr media
Percy doesn't look at me like I'm a hindrance, he needs a friend, and I want one, so there is understanding between us. Also, I'm very low maintenance so he appreciates the simple company. I'm weaving with the naiads while Percy and Grover talk beside me.
"How was your conversation with Mr. D?"
"Fine," Grover pouts. "Just great."
"So your career's still on track?"
The satyr yelps. "Chiron t-told you I want a searcher's licence?"
"Well... no. He just said you had big plans, you know... and that you needed credit for completing a keeper's assignment. So did you get it?"
"Mr. D suspended judgement. He said I hadn't failed or succeeded with you yet, so our fates were still tied together. If you got a quest and I went along to protect you, and we both came back alive, then maybe he'd consider the job complete."
"Well, that's not so bad, right?"
"Blaa-ha-ha! He might as well have transferred me to stable-cleaning duty. The chances of you getting a quest... and even if you did, why would you want me along?"
"Of course I'd want you along!"
"What about me?" I ask distractedly.
"I don't see why not," Percy grins.
Tumblr media
"Ara?"
She gives a start. "Whatcha say?"
"That dude from a while ago... he mentioned a curse."
Ara dismisses it with annoyance. "Cabin nine's fine, their old counselor passed away and—"
"What? Like, painfully?" Leo asks in worry.
"There was a war," she answers briefly. "Don't ask."
"Why are you giving me the tour?" He proceeds quickly, too curious to think about one thing for more than just a few seconds. "Are we siblings?"
"No, that would've made things easier in the past..." She makes a face.
"Which one's your cabin, then? That thing Annabeth called you... What was it? Daughter of—"
"Olympus," Ara sighs tiredly. "It's a long story."
Leo's getting tired of her ambiguity. "Alright. Whatever. But you have divine blood, right?"
"Yeah," Ara admits. "But don't dwell on it too much, it's nothing special."
Tumblr media
"Chiron said you thought I might be something special."
I open my mouth to speak, but Grover shuts me up. I look at him in annoyance, being the guardian of a demigod as powerful as Percy is a great opportunity for a satyr like him! Why doesn't he want Percy to know?
"Listen, don't think like that," he replies. "If you were—you know—you'd never ever be allowed a quest, and I'd never get my licence. You're probably a child of Hermes. Or maybe even one of the minor gods, like Nemesis, the god of revenge. Don't worry, okay?"
Percy nudges my leg once Grover leaves. "You were about to say something."
I don't want him to get angry... but also, children of the big three never get happy endings. Percy's destined to fight for his life until he yields. That sucks. I won't be the one to break it to him.
"I had a satyr," I say quietly. "And I'm nothing special. Don't worry."
Tumblr media
"That old lady..." the boy tenses. "What's she doing here?"
Ara freezes, her voice comes out frightened. "You see her too?"
Leo notices her reaction and gets even more nervous. "She's not supposed to be here... right?"
"Listen... you see something like that, you walk away. Nothing good comes from old ladies," Ara pushes him forward by the shoulder.
Leo pulls out pipe cleaners from the pocket of his army jacket and starts playing with them. "Do you know who that was, though?"
"No," she wraps Nico's jacket tighter around herself, the camp doesn't let winter in, but she's feeling a chill. "Let's go to your cabin."
"Alright," he tries to keep up the lively tone in his voice. "I'm in the mood for a good curse."
The last time she saw weird things at camp, was during Percy's first arrival. Ara keeps throwing nervous glances at Leo, she can't shake the feeling that he's got something to do with it.
He whistles lowly as cabin nine comes into view. "They got a steampunk theme going on, huh?"
Ara looks at her old cabin wistfully. "Yours is one of my favorites, but you didn't hear it from me."
Leo's eyes brighten a little as he continues to look, then he shakes his head, and his expression hardens for a moment. Ara considers checking on him, but if a person doesn't want to talk about their feelings, she should respect that.
Tumblr media
The rest of the campers avoid Percy after he gets claimed, I approach him and greet him like always, but he glares at me. "You're still talking to me?"
I stop halfway, and my smile falters. "I'll stop if you want."
Percy stops. "I didn't mean... everyone's acting like a jerk."
"Yes. It's not good..." My eyes widen a little as I reply. "Annabeth thinks her quest has to do with you."
"Yeah, I heard," he sizes me up. "Hey... wanna train with me?"
"Aren't you training with Luke?"
"I could use a five-minute break in between. Only if you want though, I know you don't like swords."
"I like them plenty," I frown. "But I'm too small for the ones we have here, or that's what everyone says when I pick one up..."
"How will you get better if you don't train?" Percy offers the handle of his sword to me. "Try it."
My fingers brush his knuckles as I reach for the weapon, and my heart shrinks with an unpleasant feeling. Most of the time, I have to focus to feel stuff, but Percy's grief is lethal if I can sense it by merely grazing his skin.
"I'll train with you," I swallow the lump in my throat.
He doesn't like my reaction. "If it scares you—"
I hug him, the grief suffocating me even more. "I want to help."
Silena has grown protective of me since I told her I had this power. She says is "Empath's touch". I can feel other people's feelings and I can take parts of them to lessen the intensity. That's okay with me, no one should go through stuff alone.
"Can I ask you something? Promise to keep it a secret?" Percy inquires as I step away. "Is it normal for a demigod... to have weird dreams?"
"They're not dreams," I reply. "They're messages someone's sending you."
"Does everyone have them?"
I shrug. "Lots of campers have them, it's normal."
"You had any?"
I tilt my head. "They don't mean anything."
Percy frowns. "Fine..."
"I mean," I continue, "my dreams... it doesn't make sense to anyone, but I know I'm right. My dreams are memories. From my past lives."
"Wait, so..." he blinks. "You have reborn?"
"I shouldn't be able to remember," I admit. "Don't tell anybody, please."
He offers his pinky and I link it with my own. "You remember who you were and everything?"
I shake my head. "Not really. I just see bits of stuff..."
"That's interesting," Percy says as we reach the arena. "If you discover what that's about, do tell me."
"If you have funny dreams you'd like to share I'm here, and I like gossip."
He pats my shoulder and then spots Luke, he hesitates. "You sure you wanna stay?"
I pat his hand. "I won't leave you."
Tumblr media
"A weed whacker?" Leo approaches the nearest wall. "What's the god of fire want with a weed whacker?"
"You'd be surprised," a boy in a full-body cast appears on a bunk bed. "I'm Jake Mason. I'd shake your hand, but..."
"Yeah, don't get up."
"Hi, Jack-Jack," the girl gives him half a smile. "You look great."
"Shut up, Ara," Jake groans, then looks at Leo. "Welcome to Cabin Nine, been almost a year since we had any new kids. I'm head counselor for now."
"For now?"
Jake ignores his question and speaks to Ara. "I hope this isn't taking too much of your time..."
"You know I'm here to help," she shrugs it off. "Where's everybody?"
"Forges. They're working on... you know, our problem."
Ara's smile goes away instantly. She clears her throat. "Right. I'll check on them in a moment. You got a bed for Leo?"
Jake eyes the boy carefully. "You believe in curses, Leo? Or ghosts?"
"Ghosts? Pfft. Nah. I'm cool. A storm spirit chucked me down the Grand Canyon this morning, but you know, all in a day's work, right?"
Jake nods, missing Leo's joke entirely. Hephaestus kids don't have the quickest wits when it comes to humor. "That's good. Because I'll give you the best bed in the cabin: Beckendorf's."
Ara's breath catches in her throat, and her voice comes out slightly squeaky. "Are you sure?"
"Bunk 1-A, please."
The bed rises up from under the floor, and Leo jumps onto it happily. Ara feels a little insulted, but she bites her tongue. "I can handle this."
"It retracts into a private room below," Jake adds.
"Oh, heck, yes," he grins. "See y'all. I'll be down in the Leo Cave. Which button do I press?"  He gives her a playful look. "Wanna join me?"
Her face twists in disgust, but Leo is used to girls looking at him that way, so he's not bothered in the least, if anything, it only makes him want to annoy her further. Jake clears his throat, wanting to save his new brother from Ara. "Well, Leo, if you don't mind sleeping in a dead man's bed, it's yours."
The boy sits up abruptly. "The counselor who died... this was his bed?"
"Yeah, Charles Beckendorf."
"He didn't, like, die in this bed, did he?"
"No. In the Titan War, last summer."
Ara feels exhausted every time someone mentions the war. Lately, her life's been plagued with losses, and remembering takes so much energy from her... she recalls every little detail, all the moments that led to this moment, and studies them in her head one by one. She can't stop.
"The Titan War," Leo's eyes are on her, "which has nothing to do with this very fine bed?"
"You'll be safe and comfy there," Ara replies numbly. "Kronos killed half of our campers during the battle, but we didn't fight him here—"
"I'm guessing this wasn't on the news?"
Ara frowns, intrigued by his ignorance. "Were you, Jason, and Piper together this whole time?"
"Er... no," he answers. "No, I was er... on the run, I guess. I met Jason and Piper like, a few months ago. Last August."
"When the war ended," Ara's brows furrow even more.
"You were lucky to miss it," Jake says. "The thing is, Beckendorf was one of the first casualties, and ever since then—"
"Your cabin's been cursed," Leo guesses.
"That's what they think," Ara intervenes. "But I've been working this whole time—"
"Jackson, you're the only one getting things done," Jake snorts and looks back at Leo. "She's the gods' favored one. Ara doesn't know how it is for us, regular campers."
She's never liked being pushed aside, it used to happen because she was good for nothing, but now it's happening because she's too much of everything. She doesn't know how to change that.
Ara looks around the cabin while the boys talk, and after the counselor closes his bed curtains, Leo is ready to pick up their conversation. "What did Jake mean when he said 'regular campers' as if you're not one of them?"
"'Cause I'm the Strategus, remember? But I don't feel different, I'm the same girl I was five months ago..." She leaves the cabin with Leo following close. "You want to know what happened?"
The boy smirks, happy to finally get some answers. "I'm listening."
Tumblr media
"I knew almost as soon as I saw you," I nudge Percy's arm. "Who your dad was."
He keeps his eyes ahead, he's wet and grumpy. "Why didn't you say anything?"
"I didn't want to scare you. But I could tell 'cause you smell like the sea," he sniffs his armpit, but the rain makes it impossible to distinguish. "Anyway, this is nice."
"How is any of this nice?" He scowls.
"Well, I don't do much at camp, and it's been years since I was out..."
"That thing you did on the bus," he replies, referring to what I did to the furies. "What was that?"
"Charmspeak. I convince people to do things."
"Do all Aphrodite kids have it?"
"A few," I answer. "Some can change their appearance at will, some are good at pairing up people—but Silena doesn't like doing that, the real matchmakers are rare—others can sense people's feelings. I have that too."
"Like a satyr?"
"Yeah, but I have to touch you in order to feel anything, Grover can do it without contact."
"So you have charmspeak, and you feel other people's feelings," Percy recounts. "Anything else I should be careful with around you?"
I grin. "Nah, I'm not dangerous."
Tumblr media
"So Beckendorf was popular around here?"
"He was a veteran, so we all sorta looked up to him. Jake became a counselor after we lost him, and he doesn't like it. Lots of kids had to take leadership positions without warning during the war, it was hard on all of us."
"So that's what happened to you?"
"No, I got my title after the war ended. I don't have a cabin. I chose..."
"You chose what?"
"To be of use."
Tumblr media
"Percy's being reckless, you don't want to be like that."
"He's allowed to be angry!" I whisper in annoyance.
Annabeth scowls. "Don't be like Percy. He's dumb and impulsive."
"So am I. Impulsive I mean, not—"
"But you're..." my friend stops before completing her sentence, but I know what she was about to say. Not strong.
I sigh and shake my head. "I won't do anything stupid, don't worry."
Tumblr media
"What's the problem Jake mentioned?" Leo continues, he's alright when he's not trying to be funny.
Ara makes a face. "After the war, their creations started to malfunction. A year ago I convinced Beck to rescue your cabin's most impressive—Oh, here we are! The forges."
Her old friends salute her, then all eyes land on Leo. "Hey," she greets them. "Got you a new brother. This is Leo... er..."
"Valdez," he scans the group, new campers are always surprised to find out they're not the only children of their godly parent.
Everyone approaches to say hi, Ara looks at them proudly, most of them are kept to themselves, but they're all sweet. She notices their injuries and her guilt increases.
"Well, all right!" Leo raises his voice. "I hear this is the party cabin!"
There is no reaction to his comment. Ara has to bite her lip to not chuckle out of pity. "Right," she clears her throat. "You think you can take care of him, Nyssa?"
"I got it," the girl steps forward.
"Cool," Leo eyes her reluctantly. "I always wanted a sister who could beat me up."  Ara snorts, and he perks up at the sound. "There we go!"
"Thank the gods!" A boy cheers sarcastically. "I was starting to think she got switched with a robot..."
"Hey, show respect to your General!" They hear a loud thud.
"Ouch! She was our friend first, wasn't she? We can tease her a little!" The boy complains.
"And at heart, she's still little Ara from cabin ten," Nyssa teases her.
"The difference is that now I can kick your ass now if you're not careful," the girl warns her, half-serious.
Nyssa smirks and crosses her arms. "Aphrodites! Always so feisty."
"Aphrodite?" Leo asks in shock. "You're from the Barbie Malibu Cabin?"
Everyone goes back to work and Nyssa whistles lowly, looking away.
"So what if I am?" Ara's expression hardens.
The boy messed up, but he doesn't understand why. "I mean... everyone saying you're... you don't really... oh man, can someone shut me up?"
"Good idea," Ara glances at him coldly before turning away. "Oh, and watch your hands, Leo, it'll suck if you lose a finger on your first week, and most amateurs do. See you, Nyssa."
Leo scowls at her insult. Alright, he messed up, but she's acting like she's this mighty being above human error since they met, and that's getting on his nerves too.
Nyssa looks at them with a smirk. "See you, Birdy! C'mon, joker boy, I'll show you around..."
