It should've been weirder.

That was the ongoing thought that ran through his head the last few days. It should've been weirder.

New Rome and Camp Jupiter tried to be as self-sustaining as they could, but it wasn't like they could completely cut themselves off from the rest of civilization. They had needs to provide for. Ceres' children operated a small farm just outside the city and they would sell vegetables year round. It wasn't much but it helped bolster their economy. Other than that, they were very lucky to receive subsidies from the gods to help.

The benefits of having all their children stuck in one place, Jason guessed.

At first, he didn't know why Pluto stopped sending them money though. Sure, they still had assistance from the others but Pluto was the god of wealth. His assistance was far greater than what the others could, and did, provide.

But for whatever reason they had been unceremoniously dumped out of the god's good graces and were floundering. Maintenance supplies were running thin. The farm wasn't producing as well as it normally was in the blanket heat wave that was going on.

Training had decreased with the need to maintain limited supplies. The god also provided precious metals to craft and repair armour and weapons.

Vulcan had been suggested to appeal to until one of the older members of the Senate noted that Vulcan also tended to gain most of his crafting supplies from his uncle.

So they were screwed. It was one thing to ask for help from a god. It was another thing to ask for help from Pluto. Sure, he was wealth and everything under the earth but he was also the dead and darkness. Inviting one had the risk of bringing upon the other.

But, when push came to shove, they were not wimpy Greeks. They wouldn't fear him and avoid him. They would invoke him if they had to.

They would request help.

And they did.

At a cost.

The god had appeared when summoned, papers clutched in his hands, eyes dark and angry. He was tall and lithe. Black robes dripped off him like shadows. His wrists shone with golden bracelets. An obsidian chain hung loose around his neck, glinting a soft silver flower pendant against the hollow of his throat.

Power hung in the air. It was overwhelming, catching around Jason's head like a fog. Everyone else in the area was affected too, knees shaking.

Death and money and power - unending, weren't they?

For a moment, Jason wondered if his father was really the most powerful god. Or if he had sentenced his oldest brother to the deepest depths to maintain that lie?

Pluto glowered at them all but heard them out. And merely shrugged when they asked for him to resume his help.

"Why should I?" he had mused. He eyed them all slow. "I assisted in the past because I had stake in this place. My children, my wife's children - do you see them around you now?"

Pluto never had many kids to begin with. His last child died about a decade before in the middle of a rescue mission. And while Proserpina tended to have one or two demigods per lifetime, her current daughter was her only living mortal child.

And she had finished out her service with the legion weeks ago but chose to attend a university outside the city. Somewhere closer to her mortal father.

It was unclear if she ever intended to return for anything more than a passing visit.

"If Claire so chooses to return, perhaps I will continue my help but until that time, I have no interest or need to do so." He clicked his tongue. "Is that understood?"

It was.

Unfortunately.

"And if Claire doesn't return?" Reyna cleared her throat. "No offense to any other deity, all your help is appreciated, but you, Lord Pluto, have been much better at providing funding. We cannot make up the sudden slack on our own and we have tried these last few weeks."

“We're not greedy” was the hidden meaning behind her words.

"If your economy is dependent on one source, especially a source that can come and go as it pleases, it's not much of an effective economy, now is it? Perhaps you should have set aside savings for this exact problem." His eyes caught Reyna's.

It took her a moment before she relented and averted her gaze. "You provided my children and step-children with a safe haven and I thank you for that. But you don't do so now so I have no need to thank you anymore. Perhaps you will have to beg for heartier help from your own parents' and ancestors', rather than pull me from my work and demand mine without any offer of reciprocity."

“We did plan on offering you our services, Lord Pluto,” Octavian lied, because, no, they hadn’t. “But if there anything else we may offer you, we would be grateful to.”

Pluto regarded him like a bug. “Legacy of that blasted sun.” He rolled his eyes. “Just as annoying as he is, I see.” Octavian’s face flushed a dark red. His pale skin looked as though it had been heavily bruised.

“Your ancestor has one thing going for him that I appreciate though.” His eyes cut into Octavian’s, a sardonic curl to his lips. “He’s honest."

He didn’t want to but Jason was on track for praetorship and what good of a leader would he be if he left a member of his legion floundering?

“Forgive him, my lord,” he cut in, stepping forward. The god’s attention mercifully snapped to him. “As prophet, I assume he saw us offering you something in the near future and simply misjudged the timing.”

The cynical glint to the god’s face didn’t vanish but amusement plied on top of it. A chill slid down Jason’s spine.

“My little brother’s latest brat,” he hummed. Jason startled at the degradation but found, oddly, he didn’t mind it. Pluto raked his gaze over Jason’s form. A sensation of being pervaded, picked apart, hit him.

The god was looking too deep.

Jason wanted to hide himself, his soul, but stood firm and unrelenting.

“I suppose she’ll be fine with it,” Pluto said, voice quiet as though talking to himself. “And he’s been annoying lately.” He cut his focus back to Reyna.

“Well, praetor. I’ll take him.” He gestured loosely at Jason.

Reyna blinked. “I’m sorry?”

“The boy,” Pluto said. ”Don’t make me repeat myself again.” A silver shadow snapped up from beneath his robes and curled around Jason’s jaw, pinching his cheeks. “Yes, I have a fondness for collecting my brother’s children, I suppose you could say.

"One way or another, most of them end up with me. It’s been a while since one came down while living.” The shadow slunk around Jason’s throat. A light grip held against his skin. Coldness bit into his chest, spreading. “And I can see you’ll adjust well, as my wife and her siblings have.”

Panic was breaking out over Reyna’s face. Even Octavian looked baffled - although that was probably more because he didn’t understand why Jason was picked over him.

“Uh, my lord, Jason is-” Reyna gestured weakly into the air. “He’s the ongoing leader of the Fifth Cohort. And his assistance in many of our quests has been in-”

“I don’t care,” Pluto said. “My wife prefers when I keep company during the summer. Mercury has been rather avoidant of late so you’ll have to do.”

Company? “I’m fourteen,” Jason said. The words pretty much leapt out of his mouth without his noticing.

Pluto snorted. The coldness spread even more. “And?”

Reyna’s voice was hard. “He is not an adult - even by the standards of our predecessors!”

"He's a powerful soldier. Age is irrelevant." Pluto barely even looked at her. “Do you want my help or not?”

Her eyes went sharp, her stance tightening. Jason could hear the denial before she even said it. He didn’t give her a chance. “Okay.”

Her head whipped to him, viciously. Octavian glared at him. “Jason-”

“It’s fine,” he said. “It’s just company, right? But-” He rolled his shoulder. “-if I’m needed here, I have to come back. Even if only temporarily.”

“I’ll have each situation that requires you thoroughly vetted then,” Pluto said. “But fine, little demigod. I’ll have Charon pick you up in a week. Be ready. I don’t take to waiting well.”

The shadows vanished but the coldness that had been dipped thick into his chest didn’t. And with that, the god left.

And Jason started packing the moment they returned to the barracks.

It should’ve been weirder. It should’ve felt odd, standing at Terminus’s gate with a packed bag, waiting for the boatman of the Underworld to descend him into the depths of the Underworld and into Pluto’s arms. As it was, it didn’t. Not really.

His life consisted of being raised by wolves and being thrown into godly quests for the sake of both his home and his family. This was nothing by those standards. He did hope “company” was just going to be that, company, and wasn’t a secret euphemism.

If it was, he wasn’t saying jack shit though. Reyna and the whole of his cohort would no doubt go wage war on the god if it was. There were some things that were supposed to be left far, //far// in the past. And some of that shouldn't have existed in the first place.

But the god was known for being unlike the rest of his family, was known for being soberminded. Jason doubted he was being dragged down for his ass. Pluto had said Mercury was being avoidant. Perhaps Jason was going to have to pick up the slack.

"Relax, young Grace," Terminus snapped. His marble shuddered. "I can feel your bad vibes from here."

"I am relaxed," he grumbled.

Reyna scowled at him. She wasn't happy about this. But he didn't let her argue him. Best to stay appealing to the god. When they all died one day, it was he they would be sent to.

None of them needed a mark against them during judgement.

"Don't, Reyna," he grumbled. "Showing favouritism isn't becoming of a praetor."

"It's not favouritism," she said. He rolled his eyes. "I worry. What could a god whose wife is absent want with a fourteen year old boy?"

"My father kidnapped a prince while his wife was still present." Jason scratched at a mosquito bite just above his wrist. "So I think why I'm wanted is irrelevant to whether Proserpina is around or not." Her scowl deepened. "He's not going to do anything to me."

"You don't know that," she muttered.

Terminus heaved out a gravely sigh. "As much as you may find his ongoing puberty changes appealing, Reyna, I assure you that a god such as Pluto does not."

Jason didn't know whether to be offended or not. Reyna looked as though she was calculating the best way to shatter Terminus's face.

"They're not that bad."

"Your voice has cracked at least twelve times since you got here." Terminus sniffed. "It's very annoying. Do it another three to even it out."

Now it was Jason's turn to scowl. "I'm not going to crack my voice just to satisfy your OCD."

"Well, you did it anyway." Jason wondered what the god would do if he smacked him over the head with his bag.

Unfortunately, he didn't get much time to deliberate. A few feet away, the earth rumbled and a figure ascended from the grass and dirt, displacing it all.

Terminus squawked in a rage. "Hey, hey, hey! I just had that spot measured!"

Charon, the boatman of the Underworld, was dressed in a shimmering golden suit. In his left hand was a long obsidian boat paddle. He laid it to rest across his shoulders, head cocked as he took the three of them in. A classy black fedora sat atop his head. Somehow, the brim shielded most of his face from view, but Jason could see the flat line of his lips thin even further.

"Terminus," he said, his voice a near deep growl. "I see your haptics are still ongoing."

"I see your haptics are still ongoing as well."

Charon's shadowed lips curled. "Must look our best to those awaiting passage, mustn't we? But I wouldn't expect a simple headstone to know that."

"Headstone?" Terminus snapped. “Simple?”

Charon ignored him. "Jason Grace, I presume."

Despite Reyna's nervous gaze, Jason stepped forward. The strap of his bag was cutting into his skin as he clenched his hand tight. "Yes."

"Well?" Charon stretched out a gloved hand. "Shall we?"

Jason sent Reyna a fleeting smile and accepted the god's hand. A coldness wrapped all around him like a death shroud and everything vanished into an inky blackness.

They didn't hit the waiting area as Jason was expecting. Instead the darkness shifted to reveal a garden of jewels and gems. Rubies hung from tall poplar trees like apples. Petals of amethyst and topaz glittered from the dark earth below.

Populated between all the shimmering were asphodels and poppies and coveted patches of sweet-smelling lavender. The garden seemed to go on forever, but as he turned around, he came face-to-face with a wide open door.

Charon's empty eyes bore back at him.

His white teeth, pure as fresh bone, smiled back in the most spine-chilling way. He gestured in through the doorway. Instincts roaring at him to avoid, Jason stepped through anyway. The hallway was lit with black flames.

Shades meandered meaninglessly past him and through the walls. A skeletal guard stood across from the doorway.

"This way!" Charon shouted.

Unsettled, Jason followed. They walked past sullen doorways before reaching the end of the hall.

Charon opened the door with a click. Inside the room was brightly lit.

It was a bathroom. Of sorts. It reminded him somewhat of the communal baths at camp and the Wolf House but smaller. Tighter. It smelled sweet, warm fragrances alight in the air.

In the center was a large circular tub. Maybe three people could fit comfortably inside. Devoid of water, the bone white porcelain tiles glittered back at him.

Charon stepped inside, pressing an intercom button against the wall. He gestured for Jason to come in with a nod of his head then yanked him in forcefully when Jason took too long.

"Daisy, he's here." He released the button before another word could be spoken then walked out the doorway. The door slammed shut behind him.

Jitters drew up Jason's throat. He drew himself across the room before settling down on the floor. The door didn't detract from his focus. The air shifted against his skin. Someone was skipping their way to the room.

He tensed as the door swung back open. A nymph stood in front of him now. A crown of asphodels littered her hair. Wreathed around her neck was a choker of diamonds and poppies.

She was dressed in a thick black sweater, long sweatpants and a bone-white apron. Her feet were dirtied and bare.

She snapped her fingers. A series of shades flooded the room. One yanked Jason's bag from his fingertips. Another began pulling him up to his feet. As the tap turned on, the rest began pouring liquids into the bath and pulling out a bunch of supplies out of the nearby cabinets.

"Let's get you scrubbed up," Daisy clipped while the shades tugged at his clothes.

Being naked in front of other people was not a big issue for him. But the act of having himself stripped down for another, without any sense of warning, was not ideal.

"Hey- WAIT-" He slapped at a shade grabbing at his jeans. His hand just sank through their filmy form. "I can do it myself!"

The shade chattered angrily but pulled back. Quickly, Jason shed the rest of his clothes himself. The shade took them and handed them off to Daisy who scowled. “Do you ever clean these?” She sniffed it and shook her head. “Nope!”

“Wha-” A shade shoved him into the tub.

As he resurfaced, coughing and spluttering, he caught sight of Daisy pulling back a piece of floor. He pushed up to see what was below. Shifting red hot flames howled beneath the floor. Then she dumped his clothes into it and closed it back up.

“Hey!”

“The Phlegethon is the only place for those,” she said. “You’ll be fine with what I give you.”

Panic smacked him. “The Phlegethon?”

“How else do you think we heat the place?” She snapped her fingers again. “Somebody grab me a razor. His hair makes me want to vomit.”

Protectively, he sank back to the middle of the tub, hands covering his head. “I just got it cut!”

“Do I look like I give a shit?” A splattering of vined daisies shot out from her fingertips and yanked him back over to her. “Whoever did this was terrible at it. Absolutely disgustingly uneven. I might as well surface and slap them until they perish like they deserve.”

“That’s not-”

“Shut up.”

His shoulders tightened at the order. He resisted the urge to snarl and snap her, going quiet as she threaded her thin fingers through his hair. The razor tickled the back of his neck. Another shade approached him from the front with a pair of scissors. He closed his eyes.

Listening hollowly to the sounds around them, he held himself tight and still.

He was never all that good at getting his hair cut. It required too much trust in someone with something very sharp and deadly and Lupa’s training had instilled in him a general distaste of that.

Which is why he’d started cutting his hair himself. Reyna or Dakota would neaten the sides for him. Quick and precise. Usually while he was biting something to avoid from biting them. It only took a few seconds but it was hell.

A few of the kids Lupa trained had that sort of distrust of people outside their “pack”. Especially if she trained them young, like she had trained Jason. Although she rarely trained kids that young to begin with. Usually only because their families had died or had abandoned them.

Jones reprised his roles in Star Wars media, The Lion King (2019), and Coming 2 America (2021).

He was described as "one of America's most distinguished and versatile" actors for his performances on stage and screen, and "one of the greatest actors in American history.”

quinn hughes style evolution

On my midnight scroll through Getty Images, I found myself so impressed by Quinn Hughes’ walk in pics, I thought I would do some style evolution! Because he has evolved! Stylistically! And he has great ties.

October 15th, 2019: first one!! So presh. He loves this blue tie, but those shoes don’t remain for much longer. This was the day after his 20th birthday and the start of his rookie year.

November 12th, 2019: New tie alert! I’m in awe of this guys ties back then. They were so fun! The shoes are a better match definitely, and notice how they’re actual dress shoes (“for now,” she said ominously.)

December 19th, 2019: Hilarious gait, for unknown reasons. Also I just want to say I miss this wall, I don’t think it exists anymore, but it was great vibes. So is his tie. Reminds me of the one Luke wore to the awards show. The Canada Goose toque is a little silly but they were VERY big that year. I bet he got it at Holtz-Renfrew- the Vancouverites ate up all the Canada Goose

July 29th, 2020: Their first playoffs! Very exciting. And so casual due to the bubble nature of it all. Backwards cap, chino shorts, high top Nikes, Petey has the dogs out, I bet they loved this.

December 10th, 2021: his TIE. Bring back fun ties he never has fun ties anymore. Also this current season people were saying how Quinn bought a new coat- WRONG! His double-breasted coat has lived on for seasons! It looks great, he looks great, the pants are a bit ill-fitting, but he’s wearing a pink tie I refuse to complain.

March 4th, 2021: This tie made tons of appearances. I hate it, but I like that he likes it and it actually goes really well with this suit. He looks amazing, would love to have him in my zoom class.

February 19th, 2022: This is very good! Very red carpet-esque, and crispppp

April 3rd, 2022: Not quite sure what’s going on with the suit tucking. But a lovely baby blue tie with matching socks?! Yes yes yes

November 18th, 2022: GREAT tie. The socks do not match unfortunately. The shirt cuffs poking out is a really nice look tho.

December 17th, 2022: The parking garage!! Welcome friend, you do wonders for the lighting and aura. The double-breasted coat looks SO good buttoned up. And I’m very thankful he ripped that toque off for the photo <3

December 19th, 2022: Jeff he does not look like this what is wrong with you.

October 11th, 2023: This is the first time he has not worn dress shoes for walk ins. He will not wear dress shoes for a very long time. The tie will disappear shortly after. There has been a shift in the force.

November 20th, 2023: a grey suit! unfortunately this makes the phone in his pocket extremely visible and a little off-putting. why are his hands clenched

December 9th, 2023: The tie!!! Nothing is really matching here. It’s very funny. But the plaid suit has potential.

January 9th, 2024: WHY are you looking at me like that?? Is it because you were forced into dress shoes again?? You’re not wearing a tie isn’t that enough?

April 23rd, 2024: Playoff form has returned! The shoes: dirty. The tie: in his dresser at home. The shirt: a nice light blue. The finger: suspiciously long. The eyes: haunted!

May 20th, 2024: Game 7, Edmonton, you know the vibes. He wore this outfit every single game for that series and I looked forward to it every single day. Those airforces were the star of the season. But I miss my fun ties. But he has best accessory in the form of his Porsche keys!

November 19th, 2024: The all black yesss!! He has this on his Insta and for good reason. The toque even looks good, but it would simply be top tier unforgivably hot if he had it off for this look. But he looks so good, I hope we see this more.

March 18th, 2025: Bringing us to now. Holy moly. I mean you can just tell the difference from this to the past. His suits fit really amazingly, the colour coordinates so well, he has a matching tie and matched dress shoes (!!!). New haircut, waist on thinna, vibes unmatched, Captain Quinn has never looked better (and to do this when we’re in the trenches?? Thank you sir)

January 17th, 2021 was the day Jorge first posted a video about Epic The Musical on his Tik Tok! Someone else mentioned it as a possible release date, and I agree it would be a cool full circle moment if Christmas and New Years don’t happen for the Ithaca Saga!

PARENTALIA

The northern hemisphere's vernal equinox, the word Ostara was introduced though Wicca and named for the goddess Eostre. Surprisingly unrelated to Easter in all but name, Ostara symbolises the beginning of spring. As a seasonal holiday it is widely celebrated by many different groups of pagans.

Named Mabon by prominent Wicca and Neopagan Aidan Kelly, after the Welsh mythological figure Mabon ap Moldron, the autumn equinox is one of the harvest festivals and marks the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere. Mabon is a relatively new pagan holiday not based on any specific historical festival, but traditionally people around the world would celebrate some kind of harvest festival around the end of September/beginning of October.

Pyanopsia, or Pyanepsia, is a festival to honour Apollo, one of the most important deities, God of music, the sun, knowledge, healing, and archery - amongst other things. During the festival, two special offerings would be placed on doorways and carried to the temple. These offerings were a bean stew, and an olive branch wrapped in wool with honeys, pastries and seasonal fruits hanging from it.

THESMOPHORIA

Festival held in honour of Demeter Thesmophoros, goddess of agriculture, and her daughter Persephone, goddess of death and life, Queen of the Underworld. Celebrated primarily by women, this festival is linked with fertility, and we know very little about it due to its secretive rites. It is thought that it involved the sacrifice of pigs (although some sources say women), and abstinence.

Erik the Red, probably named for the colour of his hair and beard, was the first permanent European settler in Greenland. His children were explorers too, who went to America, and although his wife converted to Christianity, Erik remained faithful to his Norse pagan gods. 

SAMHAIN (HALLOWE'EN)

Origins: Gaelic - Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man 

Observed by: Celtic pagans, Neopagans, Wiccans 

Pronounced SOW-in (sow rhyming with cow), Samhain was originally a harvest festival marking the beginning of winter. The day itself is the 1st November, but celebrations begin on October 31st, and this has become the accepted associated day. It's a festival of the dead, where the síthe, fae and spirits, can enter this realm from their own. Wiccans talk of a 'veil' thinning, meaning the boundary between worlds. Similar death related festivals around this time can be noted in other faiths from across the globe, and of course in the modern Hallowe'en. 

WINTER NIGHTS (VETRNAETR), ÁLFABLÓT/DÍSABLÓT

Winter Nights is mentioned in the Ynglinga Saga as one of the three greatest blessings of the year, the other two being Sigrblót in April, and þorrablót in late Jan/early Feb. Winter Nights is the celebration of the beginning of the winter season; Álfablót is a sacrifice to the elves, and Dísablót a sacrifice to the female spirits (dísir) and Valkyries.

REMEMBRANCE FOR SIGRID THE HAUGHTY

It is not actually known whether Sigrid Storråda, or Sigrid the Haughty, was an actual historical figure, an amalgamation of a few, or simply a myth. The lore goes that she was proposed to multiple times and turned down many but went on to orchestrate conflict when a potential suitor - Olaf Tryggvason, King of Norway - attempted to convert her to Christianity.

REMEMBRANCE FOR EGILL SKALLAGRÍMSSON

Day celebrating the poet, farmer, and berserker Egill Skallagrímsson, who is recalled in The Icelandic Sagas by Snorri Sturluson. Egill is known for his many killings and escaping death by writing an epic poem after being captured when washing up on our Northumberland coastline.  

SATURNALIA  

17th - 23rd December

Like Yule and Lesser Dionysia, Saturnalia was the Roman winter festival celebrating the coming return of the sun and honouring the god Saturn. The standard feasting and drinking feature, and slaves would be treated as equals like Dionysia. Saturnalia is another festival cited as being picked up by Christians and used as inspiration for Christmas.  

WINTER SOLSTICE (YULE/MIDWINTER)  

21st December  

Origins: Germanic nations, as early as C4th CE  

Observed by: Norse pagans, Wiccans, Neopagans, LaVeyan Satanists, Ásatrú, Heathens, many Germanic nonpagan peoples  

Yule is the midwinter festival known commonly among pagans as a time for feasting, being with loved ones, remembering ancestors, and looking forward to the return of the light and warmer days. Many pagans will celebrate Yule for more than one day, some celebrating a week either side, some for longer, up to two months, and some for twelve days afterwards. True Yule would have originally been in January for midwinter, but King Haakon the Good  

moved it to coincide with the Christian celebrations in the 10th century, as told in the Ynglinga Saga.  

On the 24th of December, Anglo Saxons are said to have celebrated 'Mothers Night' honouring female ancestors.

17th April 2022 - My dear cousin Richard passed away peacefully in his sleep.

From a very young age we were like brothers. And we always remained very close, even though our chosen careers led us in different directions.

The previous summer Richard had been diagnosed with bowel cancer. He told everybody, including his son almost immediately... but he did not reveal the true extent of his illness. Two weeks later Richard told me that his cancer was incurable. But I was sworn to secrecy... until he had told the rest of the family himself.

Richard remained active and in surprisingly good spirits for the rest of 2021... even though his chemotherapy left him with some nasty side effects. During this time he planned his own funeral in great detail. At Richard's request, I hosted a big family party... "Like the ones we used to have Grandad's when we were kids."

The Christmas Day and Boxing Day parties went extremely well. A few members of our extended family turned up, who I had not seen for years... as well as a well known singer who Richard had worked with in the past. Although he was starting to struggle... Richard really enjoyed and appreciated the Christmas.

In January 2022, Richard started going downhill quite rapidly, and began having mobility difficulties. He insisted on staying in his own home on Ashdown Forest. So we moved a bed to the ground floor, so that he did not have to climb the stairs. I visited Richard most days... except when work meant I was not in the area. His son went to see him every day, and a neighbour also checked up on Richard at least once a day.

During Richard's last few weeks, I took him on a tour of the places we used to visit together in Kent and Sussex. We both loved it as remembered the good times together. Driving Richard home, he said, "Let's stop for a drink."

I stopped at his local pub at Chelwood Gate. I got his wheelchair out of the boot... but he refused to use it. "I might have been carried out of a pub. But I've always walked in!"

Using crutches Richard struggled into the bar, and we had a very enjoyable hour. That was the last drink we ever had together!

Dick Cheney

Richard Bruce Cheney (born January 30, 1941) is an American retired politician and businessman who served as the 46th vice president of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. Often cited as the most powerful vice president in American history, Cheney previously served as White House Chief of Staff for President Gerald Ford, the U.S. representative for Wyoming's at-large congressional district from 1979 to 1989, and as the 17th United States secretary of defense in the administration of President George H. W. Bush. He is the oldest living former U.S. vice president, following the death of Walter Mondale in 2021.

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Cheney grew up there and in Casper, Wyoming. He attended Yale University before earning a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in political science from the University of Wyoming. He began his political career as an intern for Congressman William A. Steiger, eventually working his way into the White House during the Nixon and Ford administrations.

Cheney ended his vice presidential tenure as a deeply unpopular figure in American politics with an approval rating of 13 percent. Being called names like Darth Cheney and the Prince of Darkness, Cheney was widely considered, by supporters and detractors alike, to be the biggest swing dick of a vice president in the history of America. Figuratively and literally. What? We’ve all seen the bulge pics. And with my thing for bad guys, I’d probably end up with two shots to the face, one being birdshots.

Anyway, he’s married for over 60 years to Lynne and together two daughters, Elizabeth ("Liz") and Mary Cheney, and seven grandchildren. And with his support of his gay daughter, Mary. Maybe… maybe I have a shot with him. Probably not, but with that being said, I’m still going have people tell me what a evil man he is (like I don’t know) and or what a bad guy I am for wanting to fuck him. YES… I can feel your hate. they were always close, but they didn't start getting closer until will moved to michigan for his development program in summer of 2021 (also when samy met gabe, ryan, drew, etc.)

the guys don't believe will at first when he tells them he knows samy hughes & beg him to meet her (i assume she's fairly known because of her brothers)

samy and will grow a lot closer during those two years and by her senior year of high school and will's last year of ntdp they realize they may have feelings for one another after playing it off as a brother and sister relationship

will realizes his feelings in october when him and some of the guys see samy off for her senior homecoming

samy realizes her feelings a few months later in april when her and her friends decide to bring the guys to their prom since they don't get that experience

after prom, the two don't see one another for months because will is constantly traveling for hockey that whole summer, but they're still constantly texting and calling

they reunite at the draft in nashville! the entire hughes family is there supporting will

at the draft, samy and will realize that their relationship is changing

the confession doesn't come out until will's draft party that night

they're both nervous and afraid to ruin their friendship, so they deicide to give themselves a grace period where they can go on a few dates and see how it goes and if it goes horrible, nothing is ruined between them

Ian Flynn Is Not The End All Be All Of Sonic Lore

So decided to make this post because too many people take everything Ian Flynn says as gospel, and that anything that contradictions them including the games themself is just wrong. This is something I've seen people do with one Miyamoto which I addressed in a post on my Mario Lore Blog. So in a similar manner to that post I am going to bring forth the reasons why you shouldn't take everything Ian says as canon. Note, I want to make this clear. I don't hate Ian Flynn, and I do think he can get things right as you will see, let alone can right the characters well at times. This is primarily intended to be a source one can point to when it comes to people take everything Ian says as absolute canon.

Now the first and most major one is that in the description of every BumbleKast episode it the following description. "The BumbleKast is for entertainment purposes only. The hosts' comments and opinions, and those of their guests are wholly their own and do not represent that of any other entity." Comments would include things said about the lore or characters of the Sonic games. While other entities is well Sonic Team or SEGA. This is something Ian also makes clear in the episodes which is not to take everything he says as canon.

The second thing is Ian is human, and he can forget things which can lead to him saying something that is wrong. He has even forgotten things he himself has said. For example, in the Bumblekast for May 3rd, 2021 aka BumbleKast Q&A for May 3rd, 2021 - Sticks Misses the Apocalypse at 3:37 Ian says the following. At first he rambles about what he thinks is Eggman's not planning having a sound plan, and then he said "no Eggman never never has a solid plan, it's always a big execution but he never settles on the details." Then in Bumblekast for January 17th, 2022 aka BumbleKast for January 17th, 2022 - Q&A Podcast with Ian Flynn, at 3:00 Ian course corrected when he was asked about what he said in a previous episode and says he overgeneralized. "Alright I don't know if that quote is exactly how I put it, and yeah that if that is how I said it that's an over generalization. That's not accurate my point is Eggman goes big but he doesn't really focus on the minutia." Then goes on to make a better more detailed description of the games and acknowledges this doesn't apply to every game, unlike how he did originally. Note this is a point in this and while it's a smaller point I still included it because it does tie into the overall point I'm making.

Speaking of the overall point I'm making, Ian is not the lore master or manager as some people have claimed. Ian himself has simply claimed he is part of a team. This is something one Katie - MiniKitty clarified on Twitter. Something noteworthy is this team works with Sonic Team to keep things consistent as Sonic Team would have to have input on things like the games and animations. Having a Team instead of one person in charge of the lore makes sense because you can't expect one person like Ian for example to remember everything about the lore all the time, as they are bound to make a mistake. Speaking of which......

Ian has made many mistakes about the lore of the games countless times. For example, in the BumbleKast for Feb 2, 2023 aka Ian Flynn's thoughts on Hyper & Ultra Sonic! | BumbleKast at 10:00 Ian makes the claim the rings have no use and is just a Gameplay mechanic. "Presently it has no Canon usage it is just a gameplay element." This is just plain wrong, as I've shown in several previous posts rings are not simply just a gameplay element, they have in-universe acknowledgment, and have a use.

Separately Ian has claimed things that have contradicted what other members of the Sonic Lore Managerial Team, aka Evan Stanley. In the Bumblekast for October 9th, 2024 aka Amy finds The LOVE Note?! | BumbleKast at 9:17 Ian Flynn implies Murder Of Sonic The Hedgehog it could be canon and defaults to it being a soft canon game. This is something I discussed in a previous post I made on the canonicity of Murder Of Sonic The Hedgehog. But meanwhile Evan Stanley said it wasn't canon. So both people on this team disagree with each other about the lore.

So you might be wondering, like with Miyamoto quotes how should can we discern what is useful or not useful at all. Well…

If there was nothing in game to go off of, and in addition to being repeated elsewhere that further cements it's validity. For example, his claims of Sonic Prime being canon being corroborated by Logan McPherson.

If it doesn't contradict the games and manuals.

• Priority for lore should be in-game dialogue and descriptions, with the Japanese side of things taking priority.

• Then the manuals with the Japanese taking priority. • Then Sonic Channel and any other website information. • Creators like Yuji Naka and developer interviews with people who make these games. For example, Takashi Iizuka's placement for Sonic Superstars on the timeline being corroborated by the Official Sonic Timeline on Sonic channel. • The Encyclo-spee-dia, because SEGA had oversight and input on it, and it has been backed up by other sources. For example, Knuckles Chaotix and Olympic Games. • The IDW Comics, the reason I have it down here so low is because while they are supposed to be canon, they make many mistakes like Sonic Prime does. For example, Sonic thinking Eggman can change, Shadow being infected, Sonic being mischaracterized. and Metal Sonic possibly thinking he is the real flesh and blood Sonic. Note it still has redeeming qualities and isn't as bad as Sonic Prime. It also can get the character right at times like how Neo Metal Sonic was written. • Sonic Prime because it is supposed to be canon, in spite of their many inconsistencies and problems. • Then here is where Ian and other people like Evan Stanley go when it comes to claim priority.(Their word holds more water if they are backed up by other sources.)

Regarding Kyo's new scalp tattoo

Hoping to answer a few comments/questions I've gotten over the past week on this topic.

Despite declaring on July 20th 2021 that his tattoo adventure had come to an end, revealing who his main tattoo artist had been and at some point explaining that part of the reason for this was that he adamantly wanted to leave his left hand and his face free of tattoos and ran out of space, it's official now that Kyo has a new tattoo on the top of his head, which would be covered by hair if he lets it grow back again.

There's also been an evolution to it:

January 17th 2024 - no tattoo yet, unless something was blurred out in this picture

Tattoo outline gotten at some point between January 17th and January 20th, sticking hair extensions and applying makeup on the surface despite the pain or irritation that must be associated to that.

As you can see, the tattoo consists of a crown of barbed wire with chains and flames.

Then, between mid-January and mid-February, some of the outlined areas got filled with black, Kyo shaving his head clean again.

Maybe some shading will be applied to the flames as well?

Not sure if he just recently discovered/thought of the idea of tattooing his scalp and went back on his words for that reason, or if there was another intention. Either way, obviously it works very well, it's very artistic!
