I find Geneva less alterd than I could have supposd possible – their horrid conduct to each other during the revolution proves the shameful timidity of number, & the depraved audacity of a few – they worthy were not worthy of liberty, & France was right in taking it from them, as you take a knife from a Child, for fear he should cut himself.
Francis Kinloch to Johannes von Müller, in a letter dated December 8, 1803

Poor Laurens was killed in one of the last skirmishes in Carolina, he was a brave and generous Enemy_
Thomas Boone to Johannes von Müller, 7 October 1783
I was hoping for a mention of John Laurens in the Müller letter collection at the Schaffhausen archives, and I found one! It is, of course, about his death.
Thomas Boone was a British official and a Tory, which is why he calls Laurens an "enemy"; however, as with other British accounts of his death, there's an acknowledgment of his virtues.
The inclusion of the news in a letter to Müller also strengthens the case that Laurens and Müller met when they were both in Geneva. There's no doubt that Müller knew of him, given that Francis Kinloch was corresponding with Laurens over the time he was living with Müller (and you can practically imagine them huddling together and dissecting John's heated letters), but it's more likely that Boone would include the mention if there was a direct acquaintance.

There is a Metternich wine being sold in basically every German supermarket. I've known about if for years, but only now decided to look into the backstory of that and it turns out that Metternich was gifted the vineyard Johannisberg in the Palatinate (a region known for its vineyards) to secure his financial situation after the wars.
I mean if Napoleon gets accused of "starting wars for fun" I'm gonna start spreading the word that Metternich stirred shit up so that he could eventually slap his name on some mid wine :P

I'll follow him around the Horn, and around the Norway maelstrom, and around perdition's flames before I give him up.

Sodomy reference in the Kinloch-Müller letters (Kinloch to Müller, July 25, 1777)
I do find it mildly hilarious that Kinloch almost spelled "Gomorrah" correctly but then proceeded to cross it out and spell it worse.
Here's the full context (which in reality, was not about sodomy, but rather about Kinloch questioning the intelligence of a fellow traveler on a ship):
"One of my fellow Passengers, a very good Sort of Man, who has travelled in France, Germany, & Spain, asked me one day whether I had ever seen the famous Colossus (of Rhodes) under which a Ship might go in full sail, & expressed his desire of visiting it;_ Another day_ we were speaking of Italy; I gave him some account of the irruption at Mount Vesuvius that I was witness to, & added that very possibly the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha Ghomorra, which is mentioned in the bible, was occasion'd by some such event, the more so, as a lake now stands in the spot where those cities are supposed to have been placed_ He thought my idea very good, & concluded with asking whether Sodom & Ghomorra had been situated in Italy or no?_ And yet this Man was by no means a fool._"
Aside from the major eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, there have been various levels of volcanic activity at Mt. Vesuvius since, including some period of lava effusion in 1776/1777 when Kinloch would have visited.

Fellas is it gay to have Apollo in-jokes with your bestie, use an Apollo wax seal, call your other BFF "my Apollo, my muse, my light, my own self more than I am," and then decide to plant hyacinths on the grave of your beautiful young student?
