The twist in Demonheart works because neither Bright or the player knows the biology of Demonspawn.
Bright has no idea how long it takes Demonspawn to reach maturity, and right after Orchidā€™s labor, she gets imprisoned and isolated for months so itā€™s not like she can learn. Raze effectively uses her lack of knowledge to manipulate her.
But it is justā€¦ so fucking funny looking back on it. Ari mustā€™ve thought she was insane.
Bright comes in and is like ā€œthis is my friend Raze, heā€™s only a few months old please go easy on him :)ā€ but instead of a child, this tall 6-pack chiseled demonspawn with a beard appears and has to look down at them to say hi. And Ari is just like ā€œumā€¦ Bright you are so pretty Iā€™m just going to go along with this and not ask questionsā€ and she doesnā€™t!! What a legend!
Itā€™s like that ā€œTeenagers in Real Life vs Teenagers in Moviesā€ meme except itā€™s ā€œWhat Bright thinks Teenage Demonspawn look likeā€ cause wow was she off.

All the ROs are compelling, but I think Ari is the healthiest and itā€™s exactly because of her past.
Brash and Raze want Bright for themselves. They are possessive to fluctuating degrees. This makes sense based on their backgrounds.
During the first game, Brash is being controlled by both Rivera and Lord Mace. His life is barely his own. Of course he has a family and we do meet his sister, Chance, but aside from his upbringing, his current situation is fucked. He doesnā€™t even have possession over his own heart.
Razeā€™s childhood was a dumpster fire of abuse. He was a forced pregnancy from a mother who did not want him. Then kept in a lab for experiments. And then had to dodge and weave other demons/spawn in Inferno just to survive. His lair is the only thing he can call his own. He has nothing else.
So it is no surprise that these two characters jump at the chance to ā€œclaimā€ Bright. They have very little to themselves and she is the very rare glimpse of light in their lives.
In comparison, Ari is completely different.
Her backstory was from an obsessive relationship. An aggressive one. She has experienced the loneliness, danger, and manipulation that comes from an abusive partner. Constantly scrutinized and insulted, intentionally isolated and belittled. For most of their relationship, Ari feared Rivera more than she loved her.
So when it comes to Bright, Ari does not engage in similar behavior. She wants freedom for herself, to be able to talk to anyone and do anything without making excuses. So by no means does she try to exert that same forcefulness onto Bright.
Both Brash and Raze talk of wanting to keep Bright to themselves, but in the most sugar sweet ending (I believe), Bright ends the game at Ariā€™s house regardless of who you romance. She ends the story in the presence of the girl who values independence. I believe that was intentional on the devs part.
I am not saying Brash and Raze are bad ROs. I think theyā€™re amazing ROs and some of the best Iā€™ve seen in awhile. But in terms of toxicity, Ari is easily the healthiest of the three, and I think it was intentional that the game end with Bright staying at her house.
To emphasize that regardless of who you romance and how much you indulged their possessive tendencies or not, Brightā€™s autonomy is still valued first and foremost. And this is portrayed in how Ari is both her love interest but also a mirror to her own journey.

Testing Demonheart: The Cursed Trial, Chapter 6 šŸ„³
Tumblr media
Ran can be cool or not, depending on your choices or his approval score. šŸ˜…
Tumblr media
Choices...
Favorite choice: Insult, accuse and blame Kaisar and watch his reaction. šŸ˜ˆ
Tumblr media
Love it or hate it... Here's another "Seer's POV," with a comment about the MC's alignment.
Tumblr media
It's refreshing when Ran says something mean... right?
(Sorry for the lower-resolution screenshot, other windows had to be open at the same time while testing šŸ˜… )

What are some IFs you recommend on steam? I played arcadie second born (very good game btw) and I'm trying to find some, but I don't really know where to look :C (big sad) so I ask of you, for you thy guidance dear great one šŸ˜Œ
Oh, this is a fun question. I have some VNs as well that I will include. I LOVED Arcadie too! Most IFs I read multiple times, but I devoured that one especially.
I typically use Steam to purchase some Hosted Games IFs or VNs. I don't typically like to read on my phone as much, so it works for me.
I'll list Wayhaven Chronicles & Blood Moon though I feel like they need no recommendation since most know of them, lol. But they have a special place in my little heart.
Another fav of mine is The Passenger, it's one that I read over and over too.
Let's see I also loved, Fields of Asphodel, The Midnight Saga, Vampires Kiss, Royal Affairs, Noblesse Oblige, Creme de la Creme, The Golden Rose, Fernweh Saga, and Fatehaven.
If you like VNs: Gilded Shadows (personal FAV), Bewitching Sinners, Changeling, Crimson Spires, Demonheart, Divine Speaker, Error 143, Obscura (demo-but soooo good already), Royal Affairs, Touchstarved (demo-also soooo good), Tailor Tales, Trouble Comes Twice, and When the Night Comes.
I hope you find some gems in there that you will love, my dear! ^_^
Wait, did you really just call me great one? LOL

Hey Anon! We already have few similarities with your request such as a recommended list for non-human/monster main/playable character, themes of demons and angels, supernatural theme, and monster romances. However, this list will be catered for demon main/playable character only!

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Sir Brash
Part 1: His Barks Are Mostly Love Bites Part 2: Heā€™s a Giver Part 3: There Are No Lies in His Fire Part 4: He Feels For You Part 5: He Protects You Part 6. Heā€™s More Than His Bad Reputation Part 7. He Tries Not to Take Advantage Part 8. He Isnā€™t a Wanton Killer Part 9. His Back is Up Against the Wall Part 10. Heā€™s Desperately Lonely Part 11. He Takes You As You Are Part 12.Heā€™s Willing to Share Part 13. He Loathes Target Practice - Err, Mark
This is a reminder to myself that I really want to review Demonheart as a whole and not just go on about Sir Brash. (Although damn did I go on a tear about him!) Revisiting it will be fun and I can't wait to dive into more VN stuff over the holidays.

I'm a sucker for magic school settings + raising sims so Magical Diary Horse/Wolf Hall is my favourite because of that! Horse Hall has some HP references though since it was made waaay before the author was.. yeah. The developer's other works (Long Live the Queen is the most popular iirc) is also pretty solid in general.
On the dating sim side, I really enjoyed Nameless ~The one thing you must recall~ and Mystic Messenger. I wish more otome games were made for PC šŸ˜. I also liked the first Demonheart!
If Pentiment-like games count, then Night in the Woods takes the spot for best VN for me. Oxenfree and Kentucky Road Zero were really good too though the three of them are closer to each other than Pentiment (It is a very unique game!)
i have more takes abt motr but lets take a little break lol. those of you that like visual novels and dating sims, what are your faves?
mine are Doki Doki Literature Club (i actually have a lot to say about ddlc lol. i think its a fascinating piece of cosmic horror that only works because it plays the "dating sim" thing straight for wayyy longer than you would expect it to), Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Sim (the discourse surrounding this one when it came out was HEINOUS but everyone who was mad at it was wrong and im right. its one of the best dating sims), Sucker for Love (i actually have plushies of all the three sucker for love girlies. Estir best girl), and Pentiment (this ones not even a dating sim! its just a regular ass visual novel. a period piece where one of your friends is wrongly accused of murder and you are tasked with solving it so he isnt killed hey wait a second....)

Are you playing any other otome game like Eldarya and MSL? Is there any that you recommend?
Hi anon! Yes I do! Otome and visual novels are one of my favourite genres of games and I play them often. Here are some games I have played and greatly enjoyed (plus links to them if you'd like to check them out further) :
Free games:
1. Ebon Light - what can i even say to do this game justice? this is my absolute No.1 and I strongly recommend to play this game. EL is a GxB dark fantasy with 5 hot elves to romance and a really great plot line šŸ‘€ The game is free on itch.io, but of course you can choose to support the creator if you like what they're offering. Ā  2. Andromeda Six - this game is a wonderful gem. A great, sci-fi themed visual novel with 7 romance paths ( 2 GxG and 5 GxB) and engaging story. There's a lot of different and complex characters that you can't help but adore. I am actually not a fan of sci-fi, but I still love this game to bits. 3.Oathbreaker- I have played this game at least 3 times now, and I never tire of the characters and their story. The game has five love interests (2 GxG and 3 GxB) and a solid plot laced with humor. Great fantasy game, can't recommend it enough!
Paid games:
1.The Wayhaven Chronicles - ok, it's not an otome game, but I promise you it's worth your time. TWC is one of my favorite interactive fantasy novel. You can play as female, male or non-binary character and romance 4 amazing, supernatural love interests (4 GxB and 4 GxG). Right now only 2 books are out and 5 more are planned. If you are a fan of urban fantasy you'll love this text based game. 2. Demonheart - it's not cheap, but reeeeally good, dark themed game. DH is one of the few VN where you can be totally evil and the game won't punish you for your choices. There's one GxG route and two GxB - human female, human male and demonspawn.
Honorable mention:
-The Confines of the Crown -Wilders (especially Ren's story <3) -Aloners -Cinderella Phenomenon -Changeling
I hope at least one of these titles will catch your interests, anon

I LOVE how obvious it is Dorius wants you to find him in Chapter 5. His actions contradict everything he says.
I donā€™t think heā€™s made up his mind whether heā€™ll truly try to force Bright to stay or let her go. He has no idea what to do. Heā€™s panicking to extreme levels, and this is felt in how chaotic his words and actions come off.
You can show him the sigils Raze revealed to you. At the time, Dorius tells you to never use them. Regardless, he knows you know them. And after allying with Ari, he knows you know a witch who can activate portals. He knows these things. You can also choose to not conceal the amulet, so he can see everything youā€™re doing. He can see when you enter in the sigils and activate the portal to his lair.
And yet he does nothing when you get there. Not only that, but Brightā€™s heart is restored immediately upon arrival. He claims it was a mistake.
He says he didnā€™t expect Bright to seek him out, but he never took any precautions to ensure it. He didnā€™t have to tell us when he stole Brightā€™s heart. He couldā€™ve killed Ari then and there, and instantly teleported Bright to his lair to keep her there forever. Sheā€™d have no way to escape. He did neither of these things, instead exposing his actions and leaving Ari and Bright free and unscathed.
The door to Razeā€™s prison room was unlocked and easily opened. Dorius says he did not want you to see the child, but again he took no precautions to make sure that didnā€™t happen. No wards, no magic, no anything. He simply stands in the room, at the scene of the crime ready to confess.
Afterwards, he kidnaps Ari and flees. It feels like an emergency, but no matter how long you take to get there, youā€™re still able to find them at the end of that hall, waiting. Not only that, but this is Doriusā€™ domain. He had to have known that room was a dead end. He knew there would be nowhere to go. He claims it was unintentional, and yet he stood there waiting for you.
Dorius is unhinged at this point of the story. Ari was right in that once he got Brightā€™s heart, he had no need to lie anymore. But I donā€™t think he actually wanted to control Bright, not like Rivera and Brash. No, he wanted her loyalty. Due to his past, his believes the two to be synonymous, but they are not and a small part of him is aware of that. This is reflected in how contradictory he behaves.
What Iā€™m trying to say is: I believe Dorius subconsciously wanted a confrontation with Bright. He wanted to be chased after, exposed, questioned, and fought. He claims to already know Bright either hates him or will hate him, but I donā€™t think he genuinely knows whether either are true. And so he is desperate for a confrontation to see what sheā€™ll do. Who, in the end, she will choose. Him or Raze.
Because there is also no way Bright couldā€™ve truly won that fight against him. Not only did she need to use her speed which she was still an amateur at, but they were in his lair!! He has not only the home field advantage, but also the upper hand in experience and power. There is zero way Bright couldā€™ve actually won against him, except if he allowed her to.
And once she has him on the ground, itā€™s even described that he concedes, waiting and watching to see what the conclusion of their relationship will come to.
This entire series of events is a clash of selfishness and selflessness.
It is selfless because, subconsciously, Dorius wants Bright to know the truth. He wants to be seen for who he is and what heā€™s done. He loses his mind terrified of what will happen when she finds out, but he allows her to see it all anyway.
It is selfish because, despite the horror of his actions, he wants her to choose him anyway. He wants Razeā€™s promised life and he wants Bright. He displays Orchidā€™s gifts, that she left for the real Raze, on a precious alter. After everything is said and done, he chooses to still claim Razeā€™s name for his own.
He wants to be Raze and he wants everything that was promised to Raze, but at the same time he wants to know if ā€œDoriusā€ is worthy of being Raze. This why he allows Bright to learn the truth, but still puts back on the mask if you do end up choosing him.
Because they both know he is not Raze, but Bright, who he has chosen to be his judge, jury, and executioner, has found him worthy of Razeā€™s life, so itā€™s fine. Everything thatā€™s happened up to this point is fine. His own motherā€™s death, his experimentation as a child, murdering Orchid, the screams of the young boy in his living room. Itā€™s all fine because heā€™s Raze and thatā€™s all that matters.

We have a new trailer for Demonheart: The Cursed Trial! šŸŽ‰
How about an otome visual novel where the characters get murdered one by one? And maybe you can romance a bad guy. šŸ˜… If this sounds interesting, check out the game! šŸ—”ļøšŸ¹ā¤ļø

Oh kayyy wtf dude what did I just witness?! How the hell can someone want to romance Raze with that attitude, its like he does a backflip 180. To be fair alot of these characters are real hard to not be mad at. Like Brash starts off saying and acting like a bat shit lunatic. Ari is okay ; I guess everyone is levels of questionable when it comes down to choices they have made. Even if someone has been traumatized like holy shit dog that aint the way you go about doing things. Also whats up with people talking about Neverwinter and Demonheart?
