Queer Fiction Free-for-All Book Bracket Tournament: Round 3

Book summaries below:
Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater (The Dreamer Trilogy)
The dreamers walk among us . . . and so do the dreamed. Those who dream cannot stop dreaming—they can only try to control it. Those who are dreamed cannot have their own lives—they will sleep forever if their dreamers die.
And then there are those who are drawn to the dreamers. To use them. To trap them. To kill them before their dreams destroy us all.
Ronan Lynch is a dreamer. He can pull both curiosities and catastrophes out of his dreams and into his compromised reality.
Jordan Hennessy is a thief. The closer she comes to the dream object she is after, the more inextricably she becomes tied to it.
Carmen Farooq-Lane is a hunter. Her brother was a dreamer . . . and a killer. She has seen what dreaming can do to a person. And she has seen the damage that dreamers can do. But that is nothing compared to the destruction that is about to be unleashed. . . .

Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites by Joy Demorra
In a world of dwindling hope, love has never mattered more...
Captain Nathan J. Northland had no idea what to expect when he returned home to Lorehaven injured from war, but it certainly wasn't to find himself posted on an island full of vampires. An island whose local vampire dandy lord causes Nathan to feel strange things he'd never felt before. Particularly about fangs.
When Vlad Blutstein agreed to hire Nathan as Captain of the Eyrie Guard, he hadn't been sure what to expect either, but it certainly hadn't been to fall in love with a disabled werewolf. However Vlad has fallen and fallen hard, and that's the problem.
Torn by their allegiances—to family, to duty, and the age-old enmity between vampires and werewolves—the pair find themselves in a difficult situation: to love where the heart wants or to follow where expectation demands.
The situation is complicated further when a mysterious and beguiling figure known only as Lady Ursula crashes into their lives, bringing with her dark omens of death, doom, and destruction in her wake.
And a desperate plea for help neither of them can ignore.
Thrown together in uncertain times and struggling to find their place amidst the rising human empire, the unlikely trio must decide how to face the coming darkness: united as one or divided and alone. One thing is for certain, none of them will ever be the same.

88 for the crossover roulette.
Okay, this one took me a while
~~~~ "You really are like a cockroach aren't you?"
Vlad whirled around. No human should be in this place! Especially not one he didn't know. And he didn't recognize the tall lanky man one bit, though it was hard to make out his face covered by a hood. "How did you get in my house?"
"There are many ways to get into places Plasmius." he snarled.
Well that was that then. Whoever he was, he couldn't live. He created a duplicate behind the man, ready to strike him unawares-
Only to scream as the duplicate popped and incredible pain lanced through his body.
"Like it?" The stranger sneered, showing off his belt. "Improved model of the specter deflector. Little bit of the Plasmius Maximus built in too. Good luck using your powers for the next several hours." he crouched before Vlad's prone form. "Now where were we? Oh right, you being a cockroach. You do the stupidest shit and then you escape consequences by lying. You lie to your business partners before you rob them blind. You lied to Valerie about everything about ghosts. You like to yourself about how nothings ever your fault and that Mom would ever like you. You lie to Dad about being his friend while trying to kill him."
"Daniel?" Vlad gasped. The man pulled back his hood revealing a familiar face made foreign by age. This Danial was clearly an adult, though not a healthy one, gaunt and wary. "But the specter deflector?"
"Let me tell you a story Vlad. It has a sad beginning. Hell, it's sad all around, but the beginning packs a wallop. It start with a freak explosions at a fast food place causing the deaths of Maddie, Jack, and Jasmine Fenton, Sam Manson, and Tucker Foley. None of whom became ghosts after that. One survivor, who only survived because his half ghost body regenerated the damage, one Danial Fenton."
"Originally the next of kin to take him is was his Aunt Alicia, but since reconnecting with his 'best friend' Jack had wanted it changed to Vlad Masters. Maddie resisted at first, but after Vlad pretended to save Danny from Pariah Dark, again an incident he'd caused in the first place and again lying, she'd agreed."
"But Vlad wasn't as happy to have control of the boy as he once would have been. He'd blamed him for living when his mother hadn't. He wanted the boy to act grateful for even being in his presence when all the boy wanted was to have died with his loved ones. Needless to say it didn't work out. But did you give him to his Aunt? No. You decided you just needed a better version of him. You'd already been working at your cloning experiments, even if they weren't...built to last." He looked a tube containing a small girl sadly. "But you did the thing you did best besides lying. You got greedy."
"I was at your mercy. Obviously you could have harvest my DNA at your leisure and made a perfect clone, but you decided you wanted more. You decided to splice your own DNA in, so it would truly be 'your' son and that's where everything went wrong."
"You're the first halfa Vlad, but you know how first drafts are. Or maybe you don't, I doubt you ever did your own work. First drafts are messy and incomplete. And that's you as a halfa. Twenty years of experience, but Little Me was catching up to you in less that one. He was also good to go without any serious recovery time while you needed years of hospitalization and even then had flare ups. In terms of blending I was mayonnaise, kept stable and homogenous. You were oil and vinegar, constantly trying to separate. That's what the ecto acne was, you know. Not some skin condition like puberty gone wrong. It was your human body trying to purge itself of ghostly contaminants. Trying to reject Plasmius. And maybe you'd be healthier if you let it."
"But back to the point. You were an imperfect halfa. And you passed that along to the clones you made with your DNA. They failed even faster and you decided the solution was more power. You used me as a battery, draining my ectoplasm into your creation, damaging my body so much I can't create more. You essentially made me human again Vlad. But it still wasn't enough. And you decided it couldn't need much more, so you decided to transfer a bit of your own, only for your creation to take all of it."
"I guess credit where credit it due, you cured my death wish. I lived. I escaped and warned people. They didn't believe me of course. Thought I was mad with grief, especially Val. Until the attacks started. I don't know what the fuck you made with our combined DNA, but whatever it was it had both our memories and neither of our moral compasses, or at least any you pretend to have. It fed off death. And no one was ready for it. For a while I was imprisoned because it would pretend to be me and as such I was deemed a risk. But time helped that. I aged and it didn't. It's human form would always be 14 year old Danny Fenton while it's ghost form was a horrible amalgamation of us. It killed. It destroyed. Anything we did to keep it out it would eventually overpower. Until we decided to game the system."
"Time travel, Vlad. Remove the triggering incident. But not even Clockwork can change things all willy nilly. But what he did was seed things in the past to make the Observants of then panic and order him to fix it. Of course they did it by ordering my death, so Clocky had to work around that. Prove Little Me was worth the chance. Little Me ended up in my time and guess what you did Vlad? Can you guess? You lied again. Made up a whole sob story of how you were just trying to help me with my grief by surgically removing my ghost half and how my ghost half then attacked and stole yours and you'd spent all those years trying to fix it. And he believed you. He's burdened with guilt for a time that never happened and believes you're capable of changing and deserve a second chance. Your lies always work, don't they. But I know better. You can't lie to me, not anymore."
"But I'm not going to kill you Vlad, do you know why?"
"Because you're Daniel. I'm sure you're telling yourself something about how I'll suffer more alive, but the truth is you just can't bring yourself to do something like cold blooded killing." Vlad sneered.
"Wrong. You have no idea what I had to do to survive the hell you made." Danial smiled. "I just respect dibs."
"What? OW!" Vlad's body spasmed as something was forcefully injected into it. He looked up behind him and saw an older version of Valerie Grey, twirling a pressure injector, almost exactly like the ones he used to treat his symptoms when they reoccurred. (The scheming part of his brain realizing that would mean it wouldn't raise any alarms if marks from it were found on his body)
"A little compound based on one of the Fenton's projects. I strengthens ectoplasm and makes it stronger. It would be a real boost for past Danny or any other ghost. But for you? Well, your human form was barely holding it together with the ectoplasm you had."
Vlad whimpered, feeling the bubbling under his skin he recognized from his ectoacne only a hundred times worse.
"Goodbye Vlad." Valerie uncaringly stepped over his dying form and wrapped her arms around Danny, the two joining in a kiss.
"It worked." There was joy in Danny's voice for the first time in along time. "It really worked Val. The future, our loved ones, they're safe."
"They are." Valerie smiled down on him. "So we doing this?"
"Yeah. It's selfish, but I think we've both earned a little selfish." Danny pulled a USB and stuck it in Vlad's computer, Mikey's code rewriting several things. "There we go, edited to include another clone of me and one of you."
"How long are we going to have to be in those tube?" Val wrinkled her nose a little.
"Not long. The evidence we dropped off should get the investigation here in less than a day. Also I missed seeing you with long hair."
"It wasn't practical." Valerie grinned. "But Little You saw me with the buzzcut so I had to grow it back." Thankfully with all the wonders of the Infinite Realms, something to instantly grow hair was downright mundane and something Clockwork had been happy to maintain the timeline.
The story now was the story that had to be. If the Observants discovered they were manipulated they might undo their undo. But Vlad had to be handled and with the narrative the Observants had gotten they wouldn't do it themselves.
(Valerie had actually ranted about this, about how even in the lie Vlad had spun the Monster was half him, But the Observants had put all the blame on the mourning 14 year old. Typical.) The 'responsible' thing would be to let themselves fade from the timeline. Or barring that disappearing and starting new. But as Danny had said, they'd earned a bit of selfishness.
If they posed as clones of their past selves there was a chance their families would be contacted and taken in. It was a gamble. Maybe the authorities they'd contacted would destroy them or turn them over to the GiW. Maybe the Fentons or Damian Grey would see them as a violation of their children and reject them. But they'd take the gamble. It wasn't any worse than the one they'd just taken to save the future. And besides, their younger selves needed all thee help they could get
Sure Danny didn't have powers anymore, but he had the experience fighting his younger self had lacked. If everything worked out, not even Pariah Dark would have a chance against two Danny's working together.
~~~~
Future Danny, Valerie, and Clockwork: We'll seed these images to the Observants so they know all they have to do to save the future is prevent the explosion
Observants: Naturally there's only one way to fix this, KILL THE CHILD
Future Danny, Valerie, and Clockwork: *facepalm*

thought about Vlad King in the Monoma Death AU and it beat my ass, so i figured i'd compile some old ideas into a post
anyway i could spend hours thinking about Vlad King and Monoma and how their relationship evolved over the year (from teacher and student to trusted mentor and star pupil to Father Figure and Child) but i have predominantly been haunted and vexed by the thought of how Vlad reacts when he learns that Monoma is dead.
the war is over. the heroes are exhausted, but they're already doing whatever they can to run damage control: recovering bodies from the battlefield, reassuring civilians that the conflict has passed, and already organizing efforts to repair all of the damage that has been done. Vlad King makes his way to the hospital because he has been told that Monoma is there—was rushed in after being speared through the lung by a Twice clone—and Aizawa stops Vlad before he gets to Monoma's hospital room to try and break the news to him delicately. (Vlad is too late, but only barely. the time of death was called minutes prior).
Vlad shoulders past Aizawa because he doesn't believe him (doesn't WANT to believe him), and he barges into the hospital room only to find medical personnel in the process of unplugging a host of machines as Monoma's heart monitor wails. the attending notices him and firmly directs him out of the room, and the moment he's back in the hallway, he's collapsing into a heap by the doorway.
Aizawa comes to stand by him and tries to start a conversation (tries to apologize), but Vlad can't focus on what he's saying. all that he can think about is the fact that they convinced his student (his son) to serve as a lynch-pin in the war and then left him to die. (they were supposed to protect him. Vlad had asked Aizawa to protect him.)
eventually, a nurse comes out to express her sympathy and invite Aizawa and Vlad back inside, but Vlad can't find it in himself to accept the offer. he can't stand to see Monoma like that again so soon—pale and lifeless and still streaked with his own blood—so he leaves Aizawa to pay his respects and makes his way back to the waiting room so that he can update the four Class B students that he saw when he came rushing into the hospital. (Fukidashi came with Monoma. Kendo, Awase, and Tsunotori came as soon as the battle had ended and they heard where their friend had been sent).
Vlad stands outside the waiting room door, taking a moment to compose himself. the very foundation of his world feels like it's crumbling, so he has no doubts that he's about the completely shatter the world of his four students—and there's nothing he can do to soften the blow. but they need him to be strong, to be a rock that they can cling to when the news hits. so, with a heavy heart, he pulls himself upright, takes a deep breath, and enters, ready to face the hardest conversation of his life.
---
(two days later, Vlad King will finally work up the nerve to visit Monoma and say his goodbyes. two days later, he will grasp Monoma's small, cold hand in his own, intending to offer a litany of apologies for which he will never receive absolution. two days later, Monoma—as he is wont to do—will defy any and all expectations set before him, coming back to Vlad with a series of harsh coughs and wet, shuddering breaths. and Vlad will watch in stunned disbelief as the impossible unfolds before him, the unfathomable weight of his grief and relief crashing down on him all at once.)

drop the rabban/piter ship manifesto Please
okay okay okay okay okay all right here we go
point the first: dave bautista and david dastmalchian are hot and therefore we are fully justified in wanting to smash them together like ken dolls
Tumblr media Tumblr media
point the second: the 2021 scenes
rabban and piter never interact on page in the original books but denis made the choice to have them in scenes together because narratively they kind of fit as opposite sides of the spectrum of house harkonnen and that is fun. their canonical film scene having the vibe of "this fucking guy" on both of their parts fits the characters and belies a necessary amount of shared history, which is interesting.
plus, things that were deleted: bautista describes a scene where rabban is essentially trying to intimidate piter (i'd guess after their sauna scene with vlad). dastmalchian says there was a short scene of piter and rabban together where he's torturing a prisoner. this is probably the same scene. torturing a prisoner in proximity is basically a date for a mentat i think.
the choice to extend their screentime (even if for the pragmatic reason of not having to cast feyd until he'd have more than a minute of screentime and because denis loves his daves) creates a dynamic that is really cool! the slavering, entitled, shrieking manchild of house harkonnen and the coolly sadistic mentat? it's very hot to think about.
(please see this fanart for a summation of that Vibe)
point the third: narrative functions.
isn't it hot when foils kiss?
within the realm of dune, not speaking to the prequels/graphic novels, just the first book, rabban and piter essentially function as the top tier of baron harkonnen's operation - they are equal opposites, like real actual narrative foils. piter is a mentat and assassin and therefore serves a more subtle, back-end function while rabban is front-facing; he's the older of the nephews, he's a count and he's been ruling arrakis for a while.
the baron literally has an evil plan that involves taking back arrakis, installing piter as the ruler and then killing him and putting feyd in his place. when piter dies, he just does the same plan but with rabban. he treats them as interchangeable despite how different they are. they're at the top of vlad's list of "guys everyone fucking hates" together!
piter is also power-hungry. it makes sense that he'd see the most susceptible to manipulation harkonnen as an appealing target to sink his claws into. piter would absolutely treat rabban like a meat shield against the baron and, conversely, i think rabban would try to use piter to figure out how to keep his uncle happy. neither would succeed, but they would absolutely get wrapped up in each other trying.
additionally, they can't kill each other. neither of them have that boundary with anyone else, and could murderfuck their way through giedi prime, arrakis and lankiveil and the baron probably wouldn't care. but piter can't kill his boss's nephew, even the stupid one, and rabban can't damage his uncle's property. so even if they did hate each other, they would kind of be trapped in this state of flux where they couldn't do anything about it, anyway, so why not just fuck about it?
plus, with piter being a spice addict and rabban nominally in control of arrakis, there's a certain amount of poetry in the idea of piter being attracted to the source of his vices.
i conclude the manifesto with this excerpt from the novel:
Tumblr media
like the baron thinks rabban is afraid of him but he's actually angry at him? come on.

Old New West
Ectoberhaunt 2024 - Day 1: Present
Danny and Vlad somehow ended up stuck in an alternate dimension where different times and eras seem to mesh together. Danny and Vlad have a lead as to how they can get home however.
Somewhere, in the Old New West, is a facility that has been researching inter-dimensional travel. It is an ancient facility in this world. Despite their attempts to sneak in, the walls are lined with some type of anti-ectoplasmic material, making it impossible for Vlad and Danny to just sneak in.
They need a key, and what better place to find a key to an ancient facility than a museum?
Ye Olde Village, the sign reads, welcoming would be travelers to its town.
A hover car then passes it by, kicking up dirt as it passes by a wheat field with a robot tending it.
The man driving the hover-car, with a lit tobacco pipe hanging on the side of his mouth, fixes his cowboy hat and the red tie hanging from his plain white dress shirt, complete with a vest.
As he approaches the main street, a bunch of the villagers shopping along the businesses camped along the main street stare at their newcomer.
To his left, a group of greaser boys loiter in front of the saloon with their hover-bikes. As he passes them by, the greasy haired boys give the stranger a side-eyed stare as a welcoming present. A couple of them, holding spiked bats and 6-shot revolver pistols glare at the newcomer.
The driver, feeling a bit of sweat form around his brow, wipes his face. His breath shutters, wondering what exactly he has gotten himself into.
Peaking back into the back seat of the vehicle, he asks, "You sure this is the place?"
The boy sitting in the back seat, his face hidden under his own hat, with snow white hair spiking out from it answers, "I'm sure."
"Daniel, I'm really not too sure about this."
Danny's glares at the driver and asks, "You got a better idea, Vlad!?"
Vlad shouts back, "Well, it certainly wouldn't have started with driving the Fenton Hovercraft into the one town controlled by one of the most notorious biker gangs of the Old New West! Brilliant planner!"
"We needed a distraction!"
"And we could have done that by blowing up their hoverbikes with a sneak attack! But you didn't think about that, did you!?"
"Pssh-What do you mean!? Of course I did!"
"Then why didn't we do it!?"
"That's easy! Because-" Danny begins, "...we -uh, well...there was...a need, to ensure, that the...uh...paint?"
Vlad slams his head into the dashboard, and speaks, "Brilliant, Daniel, just brilliant. While I have tried to figure out for weeks how we can get home from the Old New West, and finally found a lead on the key to getting into the facility that holds the way home, at least I can count on you to ensure that we don't hurt this dimension's property values!"
"Hey!" Danny shoots back "We have a duty to not do any more harm than needed!"
"Like that has stopped you ever, back in Amity Park?"
Danny folds his arms and sits back, "It's different when I can be around to help pick up the damage."
"And foot the bill on me..."
"Hey, you wanted to be mayor."
"Until I remembered that kids can still use the first amendment." Vlad looks so defeated from back where Danny is sitting.
Danny laughs a little, feeling a bit of triumph. "Heh...maybe consider not shooting kids."
Vlad corrects him, "I shot the limo."
"Right, and the laser went through the doors and into me, not before hitting the fuel line which set off the explosion."
"We're getting off topic," Vlad says.
Danny, not letting it go, adds, "You really got to look before you shoot. That's like, first rule of shooting guns. Remember what happened to Dick Cheney's friend?"
"Daniel!"
The loudness of his voice shocks Danny, freezing his words.
Vlad is really pissed now. His face is visibly red. Vlad is now looking back at Danny at Danny, hollering, yelling, and pointing at him and then outside, trying to prove some point.
It's lost on Danny, because..."Um, Vlad?"
"No! Shut up! I'm talking!"
"Vlad?"
The little brat then raises his finger. Vlad smacks his hand and continues his screaming session, "Why can't you just listen while I'm talking to you!?"
"Vlad!" Danny shouts!
"What!?"
Danny doesn't speak. Just pointing, with eyes full of fear.
Vlad turns and his face drops. He sees a wall, only feet in front of him, and they are still moving.
"Cream puf-" Vlad doesn't finish his curse.
The hovercraft crashes into the building at the end of the main street, tearing a gigantic hole in the wall.
Thankfully, this is the building they needed to be in.
From the driver's seat, Vlad looks out the windshield. Dozens of statues, paintings, and pieces of pottery are displayed throughout the hallway.
Vlad is frozen, shocked that he had let this happen. "Shit," he says.
Danny floats to the front seat and sits himself on it, "Well, if we needed a distraction, we have it now."
"Don't speak anymore, Daniel."
Danny then notices the display of artifacts in the building. "Hey, hey," he exclaims, "We made it to the museum!"
"Yes, Daniel. We did," Vlad concedes.
Danny floats up from his seat, "Well, if you need me, I'll be off grabbing that key." He then points towards where they came from, "Can you handle the cavalry?"
Vlad is confusion . "Cavalry?"
"Yeah," Danny says, approaching and pointing to one of the mirrors, "Those gangsters look pretty pissed." Through the reflection in the mirror, they can see a group of those bikers approaching, with pistols and bats drawn.
"Daniel, I must really ask that yo-"
"See ya!" Danny disappears from his seat.
Vlad mutters "That little shit, can't believe he would leave me to fend off these lunatics by myself."
Peaking through the mirror at the spiked bat waving gangsters approaching the Fenton Hovercraft, Vlad takes a breath and remembers that most of these guys that they encountered before haven't been ghost hybrids.
Opening the door, Vlad steps out of the hovercraft with his two 6-shot revolvers drawn. He announces, "Alright, you heathens!" He twirls one of the pistols, "Stand down! Or prepare to face the wrath of Vlad Master-!"
They start shooting at him.
A bullet hits Vlad's hat, knocking it off of his head. Another bullet whizzes by his ear, followed by another, and another until dozens of bullets are raining past him!
"Oh, fudge biscuits!" Vlad jumps into cover behind the wall next to the hole.
As he catches his breath, the footsteps from the gang outside grow louder. The clanging of their metal spiked bats ringed past the hole, echoing throughout the whole room.
He fires back a couple of shots, blindly. Hopefully that stalls them.
"Get them," he hears one of the brutes shout.
"Good luck, imbeciles!"
Backing up from the wall, Vlad prepares to fall back deeper into the museum, but still has his pistol pointed towards the entrance next to the hovercraft.
Seconds pass, and then one of the gangsters pushes through into the building.
Vlad fires, hitting one of the gangsters in the leg.
"So sorry, my bad," with a sly smile.
"AAAAAHH!" He screams.
Seeing that there is no way he can hold them all off from here, Vlad retreats deeper into the building. He runs into a hallway and dives around a corner.
Despite his efforts to evade, one of the gangsters saw him turn the corner. The leader of the chase squad signals to his minions and tells them, "Come on!"
More of the gangsters soon flood into the museum. They swarm all the surrounding hallways in an effort to cut off Vlad and Danny from escaping.
As the squad chasing Vlad approaches the corner that Vlad had hid behind just moments before, they prepare their weapons. They turn and find that Vlad is nowhere to be seen.
That can't be right, they think.
"They couldn't have gotten far! They must still be here! Find them!"
They scatter.
What they don't know however is that Danny is watching them, from just above. He is hovering along the top of the ceiling watching them make their moves.
"Daniel?" He hears through his earpiece. Great...
He responds with a whisper, careful to not alert the guards below. "Yeah?"
"Where are you?" Vlad asks.
"Where those idiots last saw you."
"How do you know where the last place they saw me was?"
"Meh...I was watching."
"And you didn't think to help!? Or steal the key!?"
"What key?" Danny tries to hold back his laughter holding his hand to his face. He pictures the way Vlad must be having a stroke over that.
"This isn't funny, Daniel!"
"For you, clearly. Me? I'm having a great time."
"It isn't going to be funny for you when I have my hands around your neck!"
Danny imitates static, "psssh- bzzz- sssssssh-"
"Vlad?" He then asks, "I-eeeek, think I'm lo-ing you."
"Don't pull that shit with me again! I can hear you fine!"
"Yeah, I'm gonna have to call you back. These guys are offering to file your taxes at a discount," Danny then yeets the earpiece smackdown on top of one of the heads of the gangsters.
The brute looks up and glares at Danny. Fury burns in his eyes.
It doesn't phase Danny though. "Hey asswipe," he shouts, before blasting an ectobeam at the man's feet.
It hits the ground. The blast explodes, sending a shockwave throughout the room, hurling the gangster against the wall, knocking him unconscious.
This is just too easy Danny thinks.
"Over there!" He hears someone shout. More gangsters flood in with their guns drawn.
"Would love to stay and chat, but gotta' run!" He phases out of the room.
"Find him!"
...
Just on the outside of the building, Danny emerges from the roof and hovers above it, holding the purple skeleton key in hand. "Finally got you," he says.
All of that had gone much better than expected. And then, just a few feet from Danny, a purple ectobeam blasts out straight up out of the roof
Staring at the new hole the museum had collected, Danny hovers back toward it and peaks inside. He sees a bunch of commotion going on down there, with Vlad in the center of it.
He needs some encouragement , Danny thinks. "Keep it up, old man! I'm sure you'll be alright,"
He backs away and turns around, only to see Plasmius standing right in front of him. "Oh, hey," he laughs nervously, “Welcome back!”
Danny attempts to break the ice, "So...uh-...did you win?"
"Are you serious!? 'Did I win!?'"
"Sheesh," Danny says, "No need to be so rude about it."
Vlad's hands begin to glow pink.
Danny backs up just a wee bit and asks, "Little mad?"
"A little!?"
"Okay...? So," he continues, "a lot then?"
Vlad blasts another ectobeam. It barely misses Danny whizzing just past him before he turns to see it hit one of the gangsters who had just climbed onto the roof. It blasts him off and down onto the street.
As Danny begins to look back at Vlad, the old man begins his lecture: "Daniel, you really need to work on being more aware of your surroundings. Now, come on!"
Danny can't argue with that and followed. Thankfully that was the shortest lecture ever.
As they begin moving towards the edge of the roof, Vlad continues, "We have to get back to the hovercraft and get to the facility!"
They run back towards the front of the building, and then, an explosion.
They see fire erupt from where they had left the Fenton Hovercraft, just before the shockwave hits them. It blasts the two of them backward. The explosion tears through the front of the building, shredding and throwing the wood from it and scattering the debris everywhere.
Bits and pieces of shrapnel from the hovercraft begin falling from the sky. They start small, like nothing more than pebble size pieces hitting their bodies, before the larger ones come hurdling in.
As Danny lies on top of the roof, a sharp hunk of metal from the ship is hurdling right toward him!
"Oh, shit," Danny shouts. He rolls, and he feels the wind of it whoosh by his face as it impales the roof.
"Man, that was too close," he says.
Crash
Another piece crashes.
"Shit!" He covers his head
Other large pieces of the hovercraft crash into the building.
Danny keeps his head covered while Vlad goes intangible instead.
After the rain of debris stops, they look up, surveying the damage -- one of the pieces containing the green ghost logo.
"So much getting back to the hovercraft," Danny says.
As Danny walks towards the edge of the roof, thinking about what to do next, he catches a side eye of Vlad.
"What?" Danny asks, oh so innocently.
"Happy now? We lost our vehicle and all of our equipment!"
"Hey, you're the one who wanted to go all Texas Ranger or Revolver Ocelot on those guys."
Vlad counters, "Revolver Ocelot is the coolest cowboy in existence and you, a little shit, will never convince me otherwise!"
"Yeah, yeah, let's just get out of here. We got what we need," he says, looking down at the key in his hand.
The direction of the facility is just out in the mountains in the distance.
"Let's get moving and get back to the present," Danny says, before adding, "Wherever that is."
"Technically, dear boy, we are already in the present."
"Yeah?" He turns his head back at Vlad, "In what era?" Danny points at the village below, "None of what appears around us gives us an exact hint of where the hell we are on the timeline! Hover bikes mixed with old time western towns!? The greaser looking biker gang ripped from the 1950s!? Or how about the use of old Shakespearean English!?"
"Well, obviously we are in the future," Vlad says.
"Then why did we run across a calendar that said it was the year of 896!? And why was it using the French Revolution calendar!? It was the ninth day of the week when we read it! Furthermore, why the hell was it named 'UNIX Time!?'
"I don't ask questions I can't know the answers to, Daniel."
"Liar."
"Am I? Or am I just not wasting my time, along with yours?"
"Whatever."
"Consider asking yourself that next time."
As the two idiots bicker, they begin hearing more of the gangsters clamoring to get onto the roof.
They go intangible, so as to hide themselves. Danny says, "If you were so committed to not wasting my time, you wouldn't be trying to convince me this is the future." He looks down again at the village, "Because I really have no idea where we are," he says solemnly, "and I don't think you do either."
Instead of the argument Danny anticipates, he hears nothing. Vlad stands there in silence.
"Daniel...I-" He tries to find the words, "You're not wrong. I just didn't want to let on that I don't know either, because...I think it's more terrifying if we don't."
"You're not sparing me by keeping me in the dark from your thoughts."
"I know, but I still feel as if I should. Wouldn't you do the same for Danielle?"
That catches Danny by surprise. "I-" he begins, but is interrupted by Vlad.
"Let's get moving."
Vlad floats up off of the roof and begins flying in the direction of the mountains. Danny follows.
Hopefully the way back home is there.

Danny Tells
Short blurb of Danny revealing the truth to the Drs. Fenton.
When Danny decided to come out to his parents, he came prepared. He, Sam, Tucker, and Jazz all prepared for Situation Omega. Tucker crafted fake IDs and social media histories to help Danny go incognito. Sam with her Nana Ida set up a credit card to keep Danny solvent until he could establish a new life. Jazz prepared the bugout bag with clothes, necessities, and a scrapbook and Neil Pomstrong the doggie astronaut plush. All three sat with Danny in the Fentonwork’s living room, bracing Danny from all sides, warming Danny to the core from their support as he shared the truth. He was Half Ghost, and was the Ghost Menace, Phantom. “....You mean Invisobill?” Jack asked, his mouth working faster than his brain in the moment. All four of the Phantom Team sat awkwardly at that declaration. “Um, I honestly really hate that name? Like, from the first time I heard it.” “Wait, that can’t be…when did…how?” Maddie asked. Carefully, trying to spare his parents feelings, Danny laid out the events of his fourteenth year. The failed portal, the dare, the photoshoot, the trip on a loose cable. The on switch. The portal activating, giving him far more than a “minor shock” as he brushed off to his parents with his friends’ help. With Danny insisting he was fine and the portal working, the doctors Fenton moved on with their research.
Now they stared in horror. “And you’re…you’re not just some ghost possessing….” “We actually used the Fenton Dreamcatcher on Danny before,” Tucker interjected, pulling up one of the many videos he’d taken of their exploits on his laptop. The screen showed two entities. One was obviously Danny, though far more relaxed and unfocused than normal. The other was Phantom, this one far too rigid and vigilant. Seen side by side, Jack and Maddie couldn’t deny the resemblance. “It was a nightmare. There are two halves of Danny, but they’re just halves, they need each other to be whole.” “Mom, Dad,I know it sounds super strange, but this is still Danny. He’s just…enhanced. The portal infused him in such a way the electricity bonded his body with the ectoplasm. And he’s been using his powers to help Amity Park. I know you know that. I’ve heard you questioning why he’d save civilians if he was an evil ghost.” “Wait, what about the property damage? Capturing the mayor? The thievery?” “In reverse order,” Sam sighed, counting on her fingers, “Mind control, Mayor was overshadowed by an evil ghost and maneuvered to make it look like Phantom was taking him hostage, and you two are featured on the news instead of the weather due to the damage the GAV causes.” “It’s not that bad, is it?” Maddie asked. “I thought we were just famous,” Jack muttered. “Listen, the thing is, not all ghosts are evil. If you’d actually get to know the ghosts that don’t come through to cause trouble, you’d realize that immediately. As proof, I’m here. I’m still Danny. I’m part ghost, yeah, but I’m also a combination of you two. Your smarts and dedication and drive. I’m just hoping you remember I’m also someone made up of your understanding and compassion. I’m still Danny. I’m still your son.” He took a deep breath in the silence. “If you…if you can’t accept that, it’s fine.” It wasn’t fine. “I’ll survive.” He knew his core would ache for ages, just like when Valerie found out about his identity and hated him for weeks before talking to him again, just like when he thought he found a kindred spirit in Vlad only to discover how much of a fruitloop he actually was. It’d hurt so bad he wasn’t sure he’d survive it, but the platitudes continued. “I’ll go, if you can’t accept it. I mean, I didn’t tell you for ages because you kept going on and on about what you’d do to Phantom if you caught him. “So, if you hate me, if you want Phantom gone, I’ll go, and you won’t have to think about me again.” He faltered during the last few words but his friends and sister, his fraid, stood strong, their devotion letting him only slump instead of collapsing. “This…I just…” Jack sputtered. “This is why the security system kept attacking you, isn’t it?” Maddie asked. “Egads! Hang on!” Jack pulled a remote from his hazmat suit and pressed a quick code into the buttons. A soft whirring sound that they never noticed before due to its persistence faded away. “There we go, off!” “You…you turned them off?” Tucker asked. “Of course! I mean, wow, this is…” “It’s going to be a big adjustment, honestly,” Maddie admitted. “Everything told us ghosts were evil, unfeeling, basically monsters out to destroy and nothing else…but…I just… The two exchanged long glances, a silent conversation born from years of sharing a marriage and a fixation. “Do you mind if we…review everything? With a new perspective?” Jack asked. “I understand if you want to…if you feel safer going to Sam or Tucker’s house while we do so. This is just…a lot. And we…Jack, we just...Just…give us some time, please?” “Mom, Dad, you’re being weirdly level headed…” Jazz accused. “Well, Danny…” Maddie began before faltering.
“We want to make sure he feels safe! And he’s obviously had no reason to feel that way for a while. We….Danny, I think I can speak for both of us to say…You’re our son. We don’t get what happened, but we’re Fentons! Give us a few days and we’ll figure out a way to reverse-” “NO! You’re not listening!” Danny screamed, pushing both his parents back into the opposing loveseat, and pushing the loveseat and any surrounding furniture back several feet. Danny’s hands smacked over his mouth, muttering soft apologies as his parents tried to sort out what just happened. “I…It’s like…this isn’t something you can fix. I’m only alive because, somehow, I only half died, and that half became a ghost. When I used the dreamcatcher, that almost destroyed me because neither half can really work without the other. If you try to reverse it, I either become a full ghost or a full corpse. “My ghost half keeps me sapient. My human half keeps me physical. And I’ve really gotten to know the ghosts; a lot of them have no interest in the human realm. I mean, you created a portal to a new dimension and all you’ve wanted to do is tear the denizens apart ‘molecule by molecule.’ You aren’t scientists with that attitude, you’re homicidal maniacs." Danny stood up. “I’m going to Tucker’s. If you want to talk, call first, but don’t call for at least three days. I want to know you aren’t calling in the heat of the moment.”

Could you do an expansion on “Blood Tank”?
For "Blood Tank", the training would involve the user taking as much damage as possible. As the Quirk requires the user to bleed to be affective, they are going to have to learn how to take a hit. While doing that, they need to work through the pain and try to control the blood as it is forming. And while the training is simple, the evolutions are numerous. Evolutions could be the user learning how to make various attachments to the armor out of their own blood, such as adding various spikes to it to hurt people, setting them up in a way to act as a cast for themselves, or making a cape for style points. Another could being able to apply the armor internally. Not only could this let the user apply the Quirk in minor ways without being harmed, but protect their insides from being harm. This could extend to them learning how to change it once it's already been formed. They could move their own blood around others to protect them or draw on other's blood to build on their armor.
Super Moves could involve the user taking on all kinds of shapes with their armor, preferably ones that resemble knight's amror. For example, they could have a heavily armored form for protect, a form covered with various spikes and blades, one that's sealed off to handled environmental hazards, or a more powerful form that combines one or multiple of them together. The big one would involve them forcing their heart to beat more through some technique or medicine, forcing as much blood out as possible for them to add on to themselves and improving all of their armor's abilities. As for equipment, the user could have a series of vents around themselves to help draw blood, similar to Vlad King, but all over their body. Otherwise, have some objects they could wrap around the blood, like a series of metal plates around the costume to make it stronger or a scope they could put inside of the helmet for better viewing. Plus they could have a sword, both to draw blood as they need to and to fit with the whole knight theme.

Like Ik i posted my initial reaction and such to a glitch in time
But
I haven't actually sat down and given my full thoughts on it
So yeah
First off without going into Spoilers..
In my head I had alot of..not necessarily expectations but theories on what it would be like..and while I love Danny Phantom I've always been Iffy on the story continuing after Phantom Planet so I'll admit i was optimistic bur skeptical.
This wasn't at all how I expected it to come back and thats the thing i think i love the most about it.
If someone told me that Gabriella Epstein was in charge of working on the 1st 2 seasons of the original cartoon I would've completely believed them because her writing felt EXACTLY like how the show was back then. Even with modern slang added in at no point did the dialog feel cringe or anything like that it just flowed naturally.
Which i appreciate.
What I really love about it tho is the fact that it allowed ghosts to BE ghosts, not Monsters from another dimension or whatever they're actual manifestations of human emotion and spirits which makes Danny's decision at the end feel even more powerful because he really is connected to both worlds even more than he initially realized.
I love that they gave the ghost zone lore made it feel like an actual ethereal place.
NOW onto the spoiler parts
The character arcs specifically Danny,Dan,Vlad and Valerie.
It's very easy to have a character like Vlad in particular be like "The Disasteroid event made me realize how much of a fool I've been" and just end his arc there. But they didn't go that route throughout the comic we actually see that Vlad is still an asshole despite regretting some of his actions he's still NOT a good guy but we gradually see that through spending time with Danny and seeing how his anger and rage fueled Dan,that he really has been a fool he really isn't a bad guy he was just hurt, alone and damaged he lost control.Vlads whole thing is that because he feels he lost everything he tries to rule as a way to feel in control..not a very healthy method but what can u do.
Dan despite being a grown man physically is just a scared kid. Here we have a version of Danny who lost everything and corrupted by Vlad's ghost half decided that through Domination and control he wouldn't lose anything anymore now this Danny meets his younger self who is not only desperately trying to prevent himself from ever becominf like him but he succeeds! Now This younger Danny has pretty much the perfect life a family who accepts him,friends who love him and is accepted fully by the world while Dan lost his timeline and now doesn't belong anywhere. He lost everything and now taking from others is the only way he can feel in control sounds Very similar to another half/ghost we know.He and Vlad are truly Kindred Spirits and they are the only people who can truly help each other.
Danny going from hunting ghosts to accepting that ghosts are just as much people as humans are and that maybe he shouldn't only defend one side of the spectrum that humans are just as evil as ghosts and ghosts can be just a human as humans and him deciding to be the bridge between both in what i like to call (Avatar Wan Moment) perfectly ties his character together. And it's even reflected in his relationship with Dan and Vlad throughout the book, even after all that Danny still doesn't trust Vlad he doesn't even like Vlad BUT he acknowledges that not only could he not do it without Vlad but Vlad is actively trying to change possibly for the better and him acknowledging that Dan is just a scared kid at his very core just like he once was is *chefs kiss.
Valerie might come as a shock because alot of people felt that she wasn't that much utilized in this story but i feel like that's for a reason. Since Phantom Planet first happened I've always wondered what Valerie's feelings on Danny being phantom was and we kinda got a glimpse into that here ..we see that when she thought Dan was Danny she fulling believed that he had turned on them..like despite her previous relationship with Danny she still views him as a possible threat and that by itself looks like something she'll for sure have to deal with in the future.
Aside from that
The art was beautiful like i cannot keep talking about how pretty it looked. Like my only gripe with it is that the character designs/outfits weren't updated but i can live with that
The story was very well written and felt straight out of Season 2
And even excluding all of the other things i mentioned, it was just a fun read..like at no point did i feel bored or drained while reading it
11/10 for sure

Headcanuary 2024 Day 17: Fear
Many people fear vampires. Little do they know that vampires have their own fears. Caleb is terrified of Miss Hell, his maker. He is also afraid of himself now that he's a vampire; he doesn't want to be like her, or like his instructor, Vlad. He doesn't want to hurt people, or leave them bleeding out on filthy bathroom floors, alone, traumatized, losing consciousness, injured, clothes all damaged and disheveled, pants undone, cell phone playing a dissonant happy melody as frantic relatives try to call and get no answer. And he doesn't want to make them do anything they don't want to, be it woohoo, or "donating" blood, or being subjected to terrifying hallucinations. Lilith is terrified of being alone in the world, terrified of something happening to her brother. He's the only family she's got left, after all. Well, apart from a cousin in Moonwood Mill, but they're estranged because of the history between vampires and werewolves. You know, they tried to make it work, but Lily was in a state of fury, and inadvertently scared them off. Vlad convinced them that they don't need her anymore, there's "us" and "them." He gaslit them into believing that she doesn't care about them anymore now that she's a werewolf. (Nothing could be further from the truth.) She's also terrified of not being in control; she knows all too well how frightening that is. Her "vampire family" aspiration is a way to get back in the driver's seat after all that she's been through: the loss of her parents, the fallout from Miss Hell, losing her cousin to werebies.

So this is one of my first posts but I wanted to go a little deeper into this especially depending on justice lord phantom. Is he closer to Dan’s mindset? Is colder? What happens with Sam, tuck, and jazz? How does everyone else feel the effects?.
Answer, he doubles down after flash is killed Danny just reveals everything to the other lords, including Vlad but after everything he doesn’t care Luthor almost approved a newer version of the anti- ecto laws that would see other metas magic users and etc. hunted and experimented on and when Danny noticed Vladco. The G.I.W., and Fenton works being the main forces something in him broke. Danny knows what he does next means no turning back but he can’t lose anyone else like they lost Wally, he takes the throne of the ghost zone and becomes king, has jazz, sam, Tucker and Danielle taken to pariahs keep ( now phantoms keep) and has frightknight guard and watch over them with pandora and frostbite. (Somehow getting them to go along with his plans). Afterwards he take down the strongest of his enemies permanently makes it so Desiree can never make wishes while creating way to where she stays out of the way, either giving her what she wants a kingdom of her own or just sealing her away in a bottle forever. And makes it a proven fact to the other ghosts he’s done with their crap. And makes it so they can’t leave the zone with out his permission.
He asks the other lords to just remain on standby while he takes care of amity park one last time. He releases the info on not just himself but on Vlad getting everyone to come after them both, taking out the G.I.W. Red huntress is stripped of her suit and all her weapons and vlad has his ghost half removed before getting the Arkham treatment (instant lobotomy). He gives his parents one chance,surrender turn over their inventions and work with him and the other lords or be taken down and locked up. He’s praying with anything in existence that they listen for once that they trust him, but they don’t the say he’s not Danny just a walking manifestation of ectoplasm and an abomination to their sons life. So he does what he has too he stomps them into the ground captures and defeats them, and then he breaks them by hurting them in the one way he knows they will never recover from. He destroys everything they built ever paper every piece of tech. And finally destroys the portal for last. Seeing the lifeless look in their eyes breaks him but he knows it had to be done, it was the only way.
The other justice lords comfort him after the fentons are taken to a new property near Maddie’s sister monitored 24/7. Meanwhile those in the zone can’t accept that Danny would do this that someone is controlling him and the other lords and they need to fix this. All except for jazz she doesn’t agree with Danny at all but she knew something of this level was going to happen, she’s been the one comforting him almost nightly trying to get him to just step down have the other lords help him find a new life to where he doesn’t ever have to be the hero and just be a kid. But that can never happen now all she can do is damage control now.
DP and DC
So I have seen some awesome justice league and Danny phantom stories and I love them all so so much but one thing I have not seen is anything to do with the justice lords!!! I mean out of everything you know Danny would be the most effected especially if he got a look at his justice lord counterpart, we all know how against being anything like Dan, dark Danny, Whatever you want to call him, and then he wakes up in a cell and who should he see… an older version of himself, so two things will happen he’s gonna panic and then you know Danny will go full feral on his counterpart especially during there fight, we know the rest of the league does against their counterparts but Danny? They are shocked to see him and his older self fighting like they are Superman and darksied. No holding back at all.
Anyway my point is even if it’s a one shot would love to see someone do this

Dc x dp idea 11
More of a funny shenanigans one.
Danny has been chasing his rouges all throughout the country. Whatever city he is in some form of shenanigans occur. Due to the GIW he decided to do it human. He has his parents travel devices and inventions so it will be easy peasy.
Metropolis he steals some kryptonite and feeds it to cujo. Obviously cujo is coming as a guard dog. Danny can’t control him plus the dog could smell the ecto candy. Danny is munching some as well all while he soups whichever rouge it is.
Central city he bugs the flash about how he could mess with the flow of time. He thinks it’s cool and clockwork allows it cause it’s funny. (Clockwork let’s ppl figure out not to mess with time themselves. Danny leaned when vlad ended up with his mom and jack had ecto acne flash would figure it out) But he just tells it to Barry no care that he isn’t in costume.
Runs into wonder woman and is just an absolutely fanboy. Gushing. About everything she’s done. He drops knowledge about feats he shouldn’t know cause pandora told him stories about her.
Runs into Constantine and just praises him for his soul selling. It’s just chaos whenever the ghost council meets. Danny is a gremlin he got in a prank war with vlad he absolutely would think it’s hilarious. He knows a few beings who bought his soul as well and name drops them.
Youngblood wants to do an underwater adventure. He’s been a cowboy and pirate so why not underwater diver. So now Danny is in the ocean dealing with an enemy aqua man can’t see. Aqua lad is just describing Youngblood with googles on. Danny has a fenton work product letting him dive in the sea. Anything with Youngblood is a shenanigans enough said.
In Gotham he wasn’t expecting a not quite a halfa, red hood. Now when his rouge goes to cause property damage he goes to soup them. It sucks in red hood. Danny didn’t want red hood soup.
Danny then panics trying to release the thermos. All while the batfam are watching the exchange. Danny is frantically apologizing and just failing to open it.
By the time he gets it open he is just embarrassed. His rouge is free and took off. So Danny goes invisible forgetting he was supposed to act human and pretends it never happened.
The next justice league would be hilarious

After gratefully consuming your update I have come to ask if you have any Danny phantom fic recs whilst I am now in the mood for DP
OKAY. LET'S DO THIS.
(2 hours later)
Here is a list of my favorite DP fics! Most of them are not particularly recent, because I am Behind On The Times. For example, I still haven’t read “A Snapping Sound”, so it’s not included here, but I understand that it is very good. You may have read most of these already! But on the off chance you haven't, please enjoy perusing this lovingly hand-selected and alphabetized list.
*I haven't put Cordria's stories on this list. Everything by Cordria is amazing. Close your eyes and point at one, and you won't be disappointed.
**And if I had to choose 3 particular favorites from this list, I would say “Beyond Beasts”, “Exposed”, and “Shift” (by CaptainOzone). As in, these stories are going to stick with me forever. Please read them.

"Amity Park is a black-hole for background-checks, so obviously nothing is happening there." Boring.
"Amity Park is an exporter of Violent Criminals and anyone from there should probably be arrested preemptively." Exciting!
Amity Parkers are constantly annoyed by cops suddenly charging into their "friendly greetings" and waving guns around. They don't mind people waving guns around, but like... it's kind of rude to just interrupt you know?
The Heroes are all very confused about them. "They tried to kill each other moments ago, why are they not at all hostile towards each other?"
The Heroes are suspecting mind-control of some sort, but nothing meant to "deprogram" them actually seems to work? There are no drugs, no weird trigger-based traumas, not even any magic spells or anything-...
Well, there's a little bit of magic. Like. Something that stops them from swearing? Which they claim is from some kind of genie-wish made in their hometown?
So, whatever is causing this? The Heroes clearly need to investigate Amity Park.
They don't know if they're expecting a cult, or some magical shenanigans or what. They just want answers for why seemingly normal people would suddenly try to murder each other for seemingly no reason.
Meanwhile? The GIW was disbanded years ago at this point, and Vlad had to deal with the consequences of this.
Not with dismantling their bases or whatever. No. He was an investor. He put a LOT of money into that organization. Purely as a way to screw over Danny (it was a lot of fun, having a government kill-squad ready to aim at his arch-nemesis at a moment's notice).
And now they're not around anymore. So he's basically wasted all of that money. Poured it all into a black-hole.
Which wouldn't be an issue, because he could always just steal more. Is what he would've said before he revealed himself as a half-ghost to Danny.
He can't rob people anymore, because Danny will know. And not only will he openly mock him for being so "shit at business" that he needs "outside help", he'll also break Vlad's nose if he catches him in the act.
And Danny has the exact kind of luck where he'll always catch Vlad in the act. (Read: the other ghosts like Danny better, so they tattle.)
This is especially a problem because Amity Park is run on a shoestring-budget at the best of times. And with all of the collateral-damage from the ghost-attacks? They're pretty much shit out of luck.
Now, Vlad could just cut his losses and move back to Wisconsin. But Jack at one point volunteered to be "the next mayor", so Vlad can't leave. Leaving would mean admitting that Jack beat him at something. He can't let that happen. He has to win.
And the only way to win is to somehow (impossibly) make this budget work.
So Vlad decides to cheat.
Ghosts are willing to work for peanuts (or boxes). So he just needs to sell "friendly government-employed ghosts" to the masses.
Which... is a smash-hit? Vlad somehow becomes "the savior of the town" because he convinced the ghosts to stop attacking the living and start being employed.
Vlad is quick to rub this in Danny's face. Danny breaks his nose.
Now. Obviously. Ghost employees? Not exactly the golden standard for work-ethics. They're more likely to "fuck around" than "do the job", and everyone knows it.
So nobody is really worried about "losing their job to ghost-immigrants", but they're very worried about ghosts running around without supervision.
Which causes a kind of buddy-system to form, where Vlad basically only has to pay one person to have two workers. And that helps a LOT with his budget, and also with employee-satisfaction. For some reason.
SO. When the Heroes finally arrive in Amity Park?
They find it overrun by ghosts. Ghosts everywhere. Doing jobs. Hanging out. Fighting. Making friends.
Aaaaand suddenly? It's starting to make a lot more sense why Amity Parkers are so violent. Look, they're in the middle of a massive culture-exchange with a species who considers "stabbing" to be a "friendly greeting".
And... they might be contagious? With "ectoplasmic contamination"? And nobody will explain what "ectoplasm" is except for "it's the green stuff. can't miss it".
The Heroes are now very sincerely considering putting Amity Park into an enforced quarantine away from the rest of the world. Because what the fuck?
Paulina was walking home from her little self-care date~ when she noticed a familiar figure, she slowed, double checked to make sure it wasn't some random civilian, grinned and-
threw her knife!
Wes caught it, because of course he did cautious bastard. And yes she realises this now that fighting on the street was not the smartest move but it was a long time since she saw her friends from Amity and they got along fairly well with Weston.
So they had a good time, she managed to nip him on the cheek with her knife (after taking it back) he left her with a new bruise (it will be gone by tomorrow noon) and then they were both taken in by the police...
And now she has to explain why she did what she did to the GCPD and Ancients help probably Batman as soon as she gets back to her apartment. Who could've guessed that having a friendly brawl would be so taboo in Gotham? (who is she kidding of course it's suspicious it looked like they were trying to kill each other to any normal person!)
and she's not sure how much she should say!

If Danny Phantom Got A Reboot👻
Tumblr media
* 2D Animation.
* The ghost concept to be dead people like it was originally. Also make less antagonistic and more like people with unfinished business. A lot of the ghosts seemed capable of having redemption. Perhaps more ghosts who become allies or atleast morally grey associated to Danny.
* The Ghost Zone explored more.
* Danny at first to see all ghosts as evil and dangerous because that’s what he was taught and eventually realize a lot of them are people like him with unresolved issues and tries to help them, later becoming allies with the majority of ghosts.
* Have Sam be etheir less judgemental/stubborn or have that be played straight and have her work on that. Maybe a bit of both. There's been a lot of criticism on her character.
* Tucker. Perhaps had been Danny's friend longer than Sam and when he becomes a ghost and they start drifting away, especially after he gets with Sam, making him feel like a third wheel.
* Sam to be a huge fan of horror stuff, ESPECIALLY Ghosts. Have her enjoy reading into legends and myths on the ghosts they face and find out their past and what could stop them. And it would give the Trio more distinct roles, Danny's the one who can fight ghosts, Tucker's the brains and one who can do tech stuff and Sam's the expert on the specific ghosts and figure out what makes them tick.
* Go into Jack’s obsession for ghost hunting. I’m rewriting Maddie here more interested in understanding ghosts rather than hunt them. It be cool to see how they got into it in the first place. Especially why Jack himself specifically hates ghosts and sees them as bad. Perhaps a traumatic experience with one when he was young.
* Jazz to use her psychology learning to try to help the ghosts with their unresolved issues.
* Have the A-Listers should more redeeming qualities. They’re still jerks but develop into better people like Valerie.
* Another thing I wanna change is Mr Lancer. I prefer him to be a jerk with a heart of gold type, him to be a stern guy but cares. He genuinely tries to help Danny and keep jerks like Dash reigned in, Dash isn’t able to get away with as much but being the school’s best player and having maybe parents that help the school or just really important, the school tends to let things slide which frustrates Lancer. With that said, he also wants to help Dash, seeing he has issues he needs to work out.
* Valerie after realizing ghosts aren’t all that evil, help Danny take the badder ones down. Also her dad joins the Fenton’s family and get financial stability back. Perhaps she bonds with Jack about realizing not all ghosts are evil.
* Vlad.
Make it not about trying to get back on Jack by taking his family and destroying Danny. Backstory change. Have it stay almost the same(Jack accidentally opens the portal, hurting Vlad and making him a ghost). Jack wanted to defeat ghosts, where as Vlad felt the ghosts could be used to help humankind under their control. Jack thought was too risky while Vlad felt Jack was overlooking the bigger picture and paranoid They. They had a fight and in the heat of things accidentally opened the unstable portal, causing Vlad to take the brunt of it. Jack tried to reach out to him but the damage was done and things were over. Jack's been haunted ever since by that. Years alone, dealing with the ghost affects made Vlad bitter and stubborn. His motive is to continue and what he wanted to do and show Jack wrong, in the process trying to control things he shouldn’t and going down a dark path.
I want it to be more personal between him and Jack, and more so sees Maddie as a potential ally in hopes she can get Jack to help him. Tbh I want Vlad and Jack to have ex vibes.
Vlad-Join me Danny, ur father will never accept u! He’ll only reject and leave u with a bitter and broken heart.
Danny-…When u said u and my dad were ex-partners, did u mean lab partners or…
Vlad-Ok this got akward, LETS BRAWL!
He still grows a soft spot for Danny and sees him as a son, wanting to take him under his wing, to embrace his ghost side.  At the end I want him to realize just how much he put everyone in danger for his goals and reconcile with Jack, both seeing each other’s perspectives and no longer resenting him for the accident, becoming an ally of not just Danny but the Fenton family as whole. This version he still does crazy things but isn't as bad and more dark gray. I see him develop into being better from Danielle’s influence, caring for her in this version.
* Perhaps Jack, Maddie and Vlad could be a dark parallel to Danny, Sam and Tucker, what could happen if Danny closed himself off from everyone, if they didn't fully listen to each other, let their pride get the better of them. The tension's more between Jack and Vlad but Maddie was affected by what happened between the Trio and tried to be the tired peacemaker but just couldn't keep it together.
* WES!!!!!!
* Have Maddie be more interested from a scientist perspective, while Jack’s more obsessed with the ghosts. Perhaps at first she was sceptical but perhaps after meeting Jack and him showing his work to her as well as a IRL experience, makes Maddie curious and want to know more with him. She still continues with other scientific explorations and makes inventions outside of ghost hunting, especially to pay for expenses, but her main interest is in the ghost discovery. At first she assumes ghosts are more like creatures seeping into their world. When she realizes though Ghosts are genuine people and that her own sons a ghost, try safer, non dissection stuff on ghosts.
* Have more struggle about Danny being a halfa. Have that talked about more. Perhaps for an arc he realizes whether he's Fenton or Phantom he'll always be Danny.
* It was said Jack's family has been through the Salem trials, perhaps someone was wrongfully accused as a witch and killed, thanks to one of Jack's ancestors and wants revenge. Perhaps they make Jack realize his own mistakes of letting fear cloud his judgment and hurting people based on ideas based on fear and how he endangered his own son because of his fear of ghosts, thinking they're all evil.
* Perhaps when Jack and Maddie find out about Danny being half Ghost, Jack and Maddie make a vow to never hunt any ghosts, giving up their hunting career and become overprotective of Danny. They'd realize their work can still do good, especially for the more dangerous ghosts. They just try less extreme methods.
* The guys in white to have more screen time.
* Have better build up of a big bad hinted throughout the series for an epic final battle. Maybe Pariah. Say Vlad in his pursuit of ultimate power over the ghostly forces, accidentally unleashed Pariah or some other big threat for an epic finale. I feel like Pariah should’ve had bigger impact.
* Dark Danny.
* Have less emphasis on Danny/Sam hint.
What do u think? Any ideas u have for a rewrite? I’d love to know💖

Piece by Piece
Every time danny uses his ghostly wail, he looks- and feels- a little less human (PR160)  by @ghostey-o-toby
For the @phicphight
My AO3 series
[Read on AO3] [Read on FF.net]
The first time he felt it was after the Christmas Incident. They didn’t talk about the Christmas Incident, he wanted to leave it behind and forget the time he was forced to speak in rhyme because his anger got out of hand. He learned from his mistake and wanted to move on.
But that last Wail took a lot from him, and Danny wondered if permanent damage would come to him. He was thinking something in the lines of his vocal cords, or maybe permanent damage to his ghostly side - the Wail was quite draining and left him very disoriented.
But all parts were fine. He didn't think much of it.
***
When he tried to use it to stop the giant sphinx with Tuck’s face, while it failed to do its purpose, he was sure he felt something different this time. Something… cold, inside of him, as if his organs were freezing or something.
But his friend needed him and he ignored it. He needed his head in the game if he wanted to snap Tuck out of whatever the evil mummy had done to him.
Going back to human felt uncomfortable, like trying to push two magnets closer with the wrong side touching, but it was doable. He was half human, he had a human form. He ignored how the first few steps after transforming back felt like trying to walk in heels (don’t ask too many questions, it just was something that happened).
***
Danny admitted that something was going on after coming back from the chaos and the frenzy of dealing with a clone, finding out that Vlad was crazier than he thought and destroying the cursed lab with a well placed Ghostly Wail. After using his most powerful power he felt cold, colder than a corpse, and that's rich coming from a dead person. He tried to ignore it, but once he got home he changed in front of the bathroom mirror. Just in case.
It was subtle, and he only noticed because he was looking for the seven differences in the picture, but his skin was less tan - it was slightly greener than usual, the subtones colder than the usual warm flesh pinkish. He was… He was ghostlier.
His first thought was about Dan. The only other time he saw himself with blue-green skin was when he had to deal with a future evil version of himself. Dan was ghostlier, but was that only because he got rid of the human half.
He panicked. Was he losing his human half?
Bile rose up his throat and he almost didn’t have time to reach the toilet before the content of his stomach was emptied in the bowl.
Green. Something glowed toxic green in the water. It wasn’t his dinner, he didn’t eat-
He didn’t eat dinner. Or lunch. In fact, he only remembers drinking a glass of milk for breakfast and that’s it.
But he felt okay? He was okay. He didn’t feel faint or weaker, like he had done in other times he forgot to eat because of stress. In fact, he leaned more into stress eating than the opposite, but since the accident that changed. As did many other things.
Calm down, Fenton. He could fix this. If he controlled how he used his powers he could control… whatever was going on with him and his ghost appearance.
He hoped it was just his appearance that was affected.
***
But as these things are, he was eventually proven wrong - about both being capable of keeping control and that only his appearance was affected. It didn’t happen until the incident with the Ectouranium and the Disasteroid.
It had been an emergency and the only power that he could really use at the moment had been the Wail. In fact, he had to use it more times than once, not that he wanted to.
It was weird. When all was said and done, when Phantom saved the day with the help of his ghostly acquaintances, when Danny finally revealed himself to his family and accepted he had to live with his halfa condition… Coming back to human hurt.
He hid it well, of course, and he had a best friend to ask out and promote to ‘girlfriend’; but his legs were numb for a few minutes and he felt something sharp in his mouth - he later found out his canines were a little bit sharper than normal.
Thanks to the gods that may be that his first real kiss with Sam was chaste and didn’t involve showing her this new development.
Eventually, he had to. Eventually she asked why he hesitated before kissing her, why he didn’t want to go ghost and fight crime. It was like the fight when he gave up his powers all over again. When in the end he showed her she was very supportive, theorizing with Tucker that maybe ghost puberty was kicking in, cracking jokes about finally growing up.
He knew it wasn’t the case, but went along anyway.
***
The Ghostly Wail, while being the common denominator of his recent transformation, also became less taxing for him. It became easier, more natural. Using it was less scary, and Danny felt like he fell on his “last resort” too many times in the next year.
He also preferred his Phantom form. He didn’t want to think it was ‘the default’ form, because he was still human. He slept, he ate, he had human wishes and desires. He wanted to be an astronaut! He wanted-
Jazz confronted him. He didn’t want to go to college, actually. He said he wanted to, he applied for college, he did the dumb entrance exams of the most posh ones with scholarships and everything. He passed, because he likes science, but the acceptance letters still sat on his desk gathering dust.
But he didn’t want to go to college.
Sam was furious. They made plans to go to the same college and move into an apartment together. She said she wanted to go steady, that this was it for her. He had agreed that he was happy with her, that he was lucky to have a partner that understood his ghost fighting was part of himself, that having her support meant a lot for him.
And she meant a lot!
But he just-
She was in love with Fenton, the human with ghost powers. He understood now where the difference lies between that and being Phantom, the protector of the Infinite Realms, a halfa.
Sometimes, he saw the way her mouth twisted when he asked if it was okay for him to keep his ghost form. Danny knew that if he just explained that turning human was like pins and needles stabbing his skin, Sam would immediately agree to kiss Phantom instead of Fenton - but Danny didn’t want to say it. He didn’t want to accept that he was losing his humanity.
***
Graduating from school couldn’t happen in a better moment.
The last time he used the Wail and came back to Fenton he had to lay down for a moment, his tongue unable to stop touching the sharp and long canines - fangs, he knew they were fangs - that didn’t go away with the rest of his ghostly traits.
He had to do something about this. His parents were deeply unobservant, but the other day his mother asked if Sam had done his nails and why she chose to file them into points. Jazz heard everything, but just looked at his claws with a furrowed brow.
Whatever. He was going to leave this place and his sister would be too busy after the summer break to care about him becoming a little more ghostly.
Instead, he spent his days until the move to the apartment Sam chose roaming around the Ghost Zone, taking in the sights. Sometimes a ghost he didn’t know challenged him or came to him looking for a fight, and he liked the exercise.
He liked being a ghost. He liked using the Wail.
He didn’t like going back to being human.
So he didn’t.
Who cares? School was over, he only came back home to sleep and the people that mattered knew who he was. But if they could stop giving him those worried looks that would be great.
***
It happened on a tuesday. The final straw that breaks the camel’s back.
A ghost he knew from his travels in the Ghost Zone came to Amity Park to bring the fight to his doorstep. He rose to the challenge and wiped the floor with the dude with one final and well placed Wail. His aim was impeccable and his breath didn’t falter when the attack was over.
“Danny, change back.”
Sam stopped him as he tried to enter his and Sam’s apartment through the window. She didn’t look happy.
“Why?”
“Please, just- please, change back.”
“Give me a good reason why. I’m fine like this for a while.” He tried to smile and placate his girlfriend, playfully floating closer to her.
Her eyes narrowed. “Change. Back.”
Okay, he didn’t like that tone. “No.”
“Change back to human, Danny.”
He growled. “No.”
She took a breath and uncrossed her arms, as if she had proved a point. “Then we are through.”
“That’s it? Because I don’t want to change forms?” He scoffed, squaring his shoulders when she did the same.
“No, Danny. We are done because you have changed and you don’t want to see it.”
“Changed? Yeah, maybe my ghost form is more blue and my tongue is forked, but it’s not that weird for ghosts.”
She had that worried look again, this time with pity mixed in her eyes. Sam walked up to him as she pulled out her phone, a picture already prepared in the gallery.
It was a picture of him in his human form, but he only knew that because in the photo he had black hair and his skin wasn’t as blue as in his ghost form. The rest was almost the same - fangs, claws, shining green eyes.
“You can’t change back, can you?”
Her voice snapped him out of his contemplation of that other Fenton he didn’t recognize.
“And even if you did, there is nothing ‘human’ left about you.”
“I… I don’t-”
“We thought, dunno, maybe it was a ghost thing. We thought you needed to pass some ghost puberty thing and then things would go back to normal. I thought…” Sam sighed and put away her phone. “This photo is from the last time you went human. It was for your sister’s birthday.”
“But that was-”
“Three months ago, yes. You haven’t changed back since.”
He hadn’t noticed. Days merged with each other, weeks passed by in a blink. Has it really been three months?
“And that day, you almost didn’t have a heartbeat. We checked.”
In those three months he had used the Wail too many times, he knew. He had become so used to it that he never considered what was happening to his human side, how it was consumed by the power, by the energy siphoned from the Infinite Realms.
“We asked Frostbite. There’s no such thing as ghost puberty.” Sam licked her lips, looking away. “Danny, we believe you are a full ghost now.”
The weird thing?
He didn’t feel anything at the revelation. It was almost as if he knew all this time. It was-
It was inevitable.
But he wasn’t Dan, he wasn’t murderous, he was the same old Danny. Just with less heartbeats and more blue skin.
“Okay, and what of it?”
Sam made a funny face, something between astonishment and horror. “What?”
“Yeah, what of it. Why are you treating it like it’s a bad thing?”
Her cheeks turned red. The screaming started.
Danny tuned it all out. Something, something it was a permanent thing, he was not going to age, and what about their life together, he had to think about the implications, etc etc.
Whatever.
He left.
If they wanted to find him they could go to the Ghost Zone, since it seemed like his stay was going to become a little more permanent over there. Like, ‘eternity’ permanent.
As he flew through the vast expanse of the Infinite Realms, Danny found that he didn’t mind that at all.
