You stood motionless, reeling from the adrenaline coursing through your veins as the alcohol's effects faded. The rush of emotion receded to an eerie calm. As your vision adjusted in the dim light, the scene came into focus - onlookers surrounded you and a woman now being helped from the floor. Through the buzz still clouding your mind, one detail emerged with painful clarity: her bruised and bloodied face, a stark reminder of the harm just caused in a moment of impaired impulse and from your god awful temper.

Now the woman who you beaten black and blue, almost to the point of passing out, wasn't the focal point for dispelling the haze of your impulsive rage. Nah, this lady had it coming when she slut shamed you for being oh-so-bold enough to wear a tank top tonight. No, it was the bright flashing hues of blue and red seeping through the windows that acted as your wakeup call.

Just like that, a realization hit with sobering clarity - “Shit. Cops.” Without pause, you shoved through the crowd, desperation driving every move. Bursting through the door, the frigid night air raised goosebumps across your skin. Damnit, maybe the tank top wasn’t the best choice after all. Intoxicated or not, you were in no shape for an arrest. Stumbling at first, you found your footing and picked up speed, putting distance between yourself and the scene of the incident you started. You were gonna make it through! You were gonna outrun those pigs and they would never get their grubby hands onto you!

…That was until, a loathsome voice sounded from behind.

“Hey- hey! Where do you think you’re going?”

Before you knew it, you felt hands locked around your arms, yanking you to a halt. The telltale jingle of metal broke through your panic and with a sharp click, cold steel encircled your wrists. A glance back confirmed your dread. You weren’t being handcuffed by just any stinking cop - it was that good for nothing detective Colin Zabel arresting you once more, and for what, the third time this week? That’s one hell of a streak.

You sighed inwardly, the fight draining from your limbs, knowing any attempt in resisting would be in vain. “Goddammit Zabel, can’t you give it a rest?…” you muttered under your breath, as he hauled you back to the police car.

"I know, I know - save your excuses," Colin cut you off wearily, the smile not reaching his eyes. “Jus’… don’t start, ‘Kay? Do me a solid and quietly get in the car.” He opened the car door to the backseat, gesturing for you to step inside. Despite his perpetual mask of affability, you detected an edge of irritation - his good humor and patience clearly worn down by your repeated encounters.

“Whatever man…” you sighed as the door clamped shut with finality. Through the window you watched Colin slip into the driver's seat, releasing a long exhale as if to shed the stress of your latest encounter. At least you provided some diversion from his endless paperwork, though you doubted he'd admit as much.

True to his by-the-book nature, he slinked the seatbelt over himself, securing it with an assured click. Out of habit, he craned his neck over his shoulder, asking out of the goodwill of his heart. “Oh! Almost forgot. Do ya need a lil’ hand with fastening your seatbelt too?“ he offered warmly, “Don’t want any extra accidents happening tonight, am I right or am I right?” A hearty chuckle followed, dying abruptly once he took in your expression - eyes hooded and mouth set in a grim line.

“Fuck off Zabel.” you growled in response, fixing your stare out the window. He felt tension coil in his gut but forced it down with a hard gulp. As a veteran officer, he had faced far worse than you, yet something about your unpredictable defiance unsettled him. For a moment, under your glare, an angry retort rose to his lips but he bit it back, sensing it would only stoke the flames. Best to let the dust settle, he decided. Starting the car, he pointedly kept his eyes forward and drove in loaded silence.

“Alriiiighty then, no seatbelt it is. I’m just gonna… ah- y’know….” He cleared his throat, voice petering off into a nonsensical mumble as he shifted gears.

An uncomfortable hush fell over the car, only the revving of the engine permeating the stillness. Colin tapped the wheel, wishing for a distraction from the tension. His mind raced through possible conversation starters but came up blank. A stolen glance in the mirror found your stony profile unchanged. With a sigh, he focused back to the road, flicking on the radio more for the static noise than any musical preference.

Colin hummed softly to fill the silence, earning another kick from the backseat - your fourth such outburst. He was the pinnacle of what it meant to be a pushover, but he still stood his ground when needed to… in his own unique way. “H-Hey, Cut it out kid! And be nice,” he let out a weary sigh, peeking up at your vexed form through the rearview mirror “You know, I’m not a fan of this attitude you’ve got going on. Haven’t been for the past week.”

You sank lower into the seat, glowering. “First of all, old man, lay off the ‘kid’ crap. I’m not a child.” You rolled your eyes at his feeble attempt at reprimand.

Colin bit back another retort, clenching his jaw. Pride demanded he have the last word, if only to reclaim a shred of dignity in his own vehicle. “Hm no, I think I’ll call you a kid. ‘Cause you know why? You’re acting like one, like right now.” he replied evenly, bubbling frustration leaking through his amicable veneer, yet he still maintained some semblance of civility between him and your not-so-good of a temper.

As you drew your breath to speak, Colin beat you to it. “Look- all I’m sayin’ is, this isn’t good for you. This is the third time this week I’m haulin’ you in here. The third time!” Weariness tinged his laughter as he splayed his fingers out in front of him, only to reclaim the steering wheel in a swift motion. “Not only is this not doing you any favors kid—-“

“I said don’t call me kid.” You interjected sharply, cutting him off this time.

Colin continued on autopilot, fatigue chipping away at his usual cheer. “It's also not doing me any favors either. I've got a case to crack, but Mare - my partner - thought it’d be best if I dealt with you while she took charge of the investigation for the night…”

His shoulders slumped, eyes downcast as a cloud of disappointment settled in. As a county detective, he longed to prove himself with this investigation, not play referee to petty disputes. But saying no had never come easy, especially when others mistook his calm demeanor as weakness.

Silently, your eyes veered away from the passing scenery outside the car window, finally taking notice of his careworn features in the mirror. Attuned to the new lines of fatigue etched upon his face, you perhaps began to understand that this was wearing him too.

“Must suck being everyone’s errand boy.” You observed, tone lacking its usual bite.

Colin offered a tired nod. “Comes with the job, I guess…” his words trailed off, accompanied by a somber tone as his gaze returned to the road. “But y’know what they say- it is what it is.” he added softly, punctuating the statement with a self deprecating laugh.

Surprisingly, a twinge of sympathy tugged at your heart - a rare reaction to the shithead county detective. For all his attempts at camaraderie, which admittedly grated, you had to respect his resilience in the face of your unrelenting hostility. Hell, that time you clocked him during arrest, most would've thrown the book - but not Colin. His patience and optimism seemed a superpower, weathering your worst without breaking stride.

A strange blend of sympathy and guilt surged through you, as the realization struck you hard like a freight train - you had subjected the poor detective to a relentless barrage of undeserved hardship, oblivious to the weight of his personal burdens. Your chest tightened, and a foreign sensation stirred deep within as the reflection in the rearview mirror held your gaze captive.

The need for redemption gnawed at your conscience, but how could you possibly make things right? You've been a real pain in the ass to him for a good while now. Colin glanced over, clearly skeptical of your politeness given past rides. "Not sure that's protocol..." he began, ever the rule-follower.

Your lips formed a slight pout, an innocent plea. "Aw c’mon, I'm starting to feel queasy. Just to the station, what's the harm?"

Colin's head snapped in your direction, his eyes narrowing as he scrutinized your expression. Despite his suspicion, a flicker of genuine concern crossed his face. Secrets Are For Grown Ups | Part 3

CW: Paperwork. I hate paperwork.

Shout out to the fabulous @xbirdiex. It's better than reading my words for the first time because she is so good at articulting to me how everything makes her feel.

John pulled off his glasses before rubbing his eyes so hard the kaleidoscope of colors blurred his vision for seconds after he blinked to clear them. He needed to retire. The years of being trapped at a desk and only let out for training had sapped him of the will to continue. He had given the greater good all that he could, but if one more file got sent to him as half digital half paper copy he would start launching things out the window or possibly set his office ablaze.

He had stayed longer than he should have again but the frozen dish of lasagna and beer at his flat did not entice him home. The trill of his ringing phone pulled him from his languorous thoughts. Number hadn’t been saved in his phone. Odd. The same tickle in his brain that saved him on countless missions twitched now. Answering it in silence he waited.

“Is this Captain Price?”

“Not a captain anymore, but this is Price. May I ask who is calling?”

The woman on the other end blew out a breath.

“I worked with you several years back on a visa from the US. I’m not sure if you remember me,” her tone indicated a question as she searched for more words.

John could only remember one such woman in his time as a captain. You popped into his mind in technicolor.

“I do remember. I haven’t heard from you since you left for your family emergency. Has something come up?”

He swore he could feel you vacillating on the other end of the line. You had been so painfully expressive in your communications the year you had worked for him. For you to call out of the blue after so many years, something had to be wrong.

“Yes. You could say that.” You blow out a slow breath before continuing. “This is a…a bit of a long story. Do you have a moment?”

Settling back into his office chair with a creak John gets more comfortable.

“For you, I can take all day.”

Leave had been approved fairly quickly. John had an overabundance of it that brass and the HR and accounting teams hounded him about taking. They all claimed it made their jobs harder if he let it build up so high. He could take off six months without putting a dent in his overall amount of leave. Also if he weren’t there to bitch about the paperwork brass would more likely pass it off to someone else.

Last-minute flights were a pain in the ass to schedule as well as to pay for but like everything else in his life money tended to pile up because he rarely had time to spend it. John packed the same way he would for a long mission, though this time he packed his good underwear. You had offered to let him stay with you after he provided the contact information for one Nyla MacTavish.

His phone rang as he zipped up his large suitcase. Glancing at the name John wished he had a cigar to add a hint of nicotine-laced clarity to his thoughts. Flicking open his phone with a thumb John lifted it to his ear.

“Been expecting your call.”

“That’s never a good way to start a conversation, John.”

“I agree. Now tell me what happened?”

“Did you know?” The quiet, pained question could bore through bone. Simon, one of his muppets, his strongest men, sounded on the point of tears.

“Not until a few hours ago,” pinching the phone between his ear and his shoulder John settled his wheeled luggage on the floor.

“Good,” Simon repeated it to himself as if confirming his belief in John stood strong. “I had to dose Johnny with part of an edible he didn’t know we had in the house. He wanted to break down her door for answers.”

The idea of Simon handing Johnny an innocuous candy or baked good to dose him into a stupor that wouldn’t lead to criminal charges caught John as funny.

“I think your husband is going to have something to say about that in the morning.”

Simon snorted, “Knowing him he is going to have a lot more than a single thing to say.”

“Mmm, you might be right.” John paused to lock his flat door behind him. “Give me twenty-four hours Simon. I am headed to the airport right now and out to you.”

“Did she invite you or are you coming to keep us in line?” Simon’s voice edged into Ghost territory.

“For your information, I was invited,” John replied, mock offended.

“You would have come anyway.”

John could hear the rolling of his eyes even across the line.

“Yes, but this way I get to meet your boys and don’t have to pay for a hotel.”

Simon sucked in a breath.

“Boys? We thought she had a boy and a girl.”

“Nope, she clearly referred to them as the boys or her boys.”

A wet cough cleared the phone line.

“Okay. Let us know when we can meet with her and discuss this all.” Simon sounded defeated, unmoored.

“Are you wanting her back?” John asked carefully as he stepped onto the street to wait for his cab.

“Not…not like before. Johnny and I are happy as we are, but if the boys are either of ours we both want to be involved. We deserve that much.”

John didn’t know if the word deserved had any place in this sticky of a situation but he let it slide. That would be for you to explain.

“I will see you in a day or so, Simon. Keep your husband on a short leash until I get there. We both know explosions from Johnny weren’t only from bombs.”

A light chuckle from Simon is the only warning before the call ends. John sighs through his nose as he tucks his phone away.

What a hell of a story this would turn out to be.

✨New item!✨ Chain Devil’s Embrace  Armor (chain mail or chain shirt), very rare (requires attunement by a lawful creature)  This mass of chains slithers with sinister sentience, threatening to constrict anyone in reach. Each chain ends in a rusty hook or wicked blade, perfect for snaring and lacerating victims. Donning the chains as a suit of armor is an unpleasantly confining experience, but the living metal adjusts to provide ample protection and mobility to its wearer. You can choose to don it as a suit of chain mail or a chain shirt. You have a +1 bonus to AC while wearing this armor.

Infernal Oath. In order to attune to this armor, you must declare an oath that will bind you together. The oath can be any goal, set of rules, or moral tenet that you choose, however it must be clearly defined and actionable. If the oath is of sufficient clarity and importance, it appears in written form and must be signed in blood before it burns away. 

Grasping Chains. The armor has 7 charges, and it regains 1d4 + 3 expended charges daily at dawn. As an action while wearing it you can expend 1 charge to shoot out hook-tipped chains to ensnare a creature that you can see within 10 feet of you. Make an attack roll against the target with a +8 bonus. On a hit, the target takes 2d6 slashing damage and, if it is Huge or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 16). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, takes 1d6 piercing damage at the start of each of its turns, and you can’t use Grasping Chains. 

Devilish Form. While wearing the armor, as a bonus action you can invoke its infernal essence for 1 minute. For the duration, you gain the following effects:

Your skin turns blood red, your eyes glow like coals, and chains writhe across your body. 

Grasping Chains’ range increases to 60 feet. It deals an extra 2d8 fire damage when it hits a target.

You are immune to fire damage.

As a reaction when a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of you and you can see one another, you can create the illusion that you look like one of the creature's departed loved ones or bitter enemies. It must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of its turn. Creatures that can see through illusions are immune to this effect.

Once you’ve used Devilish Form, it cannot be used again until the next dawn.

Sentience. The Chain Devil’s Embrace is a sentient, lawful evil suit of armor with an Intelligence of 11, a Wisdom of 12, and a Charisma of 14. It has hearing and darkvision vision out to a range of 120 feet. The armor communicates telepathically to the creature attuned to it and can speak, read, and understand Infernal and Common.

A sadistic chain devil named Tyrastr lives within the Chain Devil’s Embrace. The armor yearns to inflict pain and tyranny on others. It doesn’t care what the beliefs of its wearer are, so long as they are enforced meticulously and transgressors are punished without mercy.

Curse. While wearing this armor, Tyrastr demands strict adherence to your oath. If you act contradictory to your oath or do not seize an opportunity to mercilessly pursue it, the chains constrict around you and you take 1d8 piercing damage. The damage increases by 1d8 with each subsequent transgression. If this damage reduces you to 0 hit points, you immediately die and your soul is sent to hell, where it is imprisoned by a chain devil warden.

Until your attunement to this armor ends, you have disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws while wearing any other armor. A soldier kneels before you, defeated. Blood and sweat mats the hair to his face. Up close, you see he is a year or more from adulthood. The boy’s trembling rattles his armor. “The cur prostrates itself before you, make it suffer!” Tyrastr’s vile, metallic voice pierces through your mind, dripping with sadistic glee. “This one was there, watching your home burn!” Despite your commitment to destroy the Malefic Order for razing your temple, your rage falters. Killing this boy would be wrong. You turn your back and listen to his fleeing footsteps.  “Spineless worm! How will you avenge your brothers if you cannot do what is necessary!?” As these words reverberate through your skull, your chain armor constricts. Writing a novel: Step by step

Most writers aspire to publish at least one book in their lifetime, but writing a novel is not easy. From new writers to experienced writers who have published hundreds of books, everyone must follow a step-by-step process to create their work. These steps are based on the wisdom of famous writers, so while they may not be entirely definitive, they will certainly be helpful to you.

Step 1: Generate ideas

Start by generating ideas for your novel. This can involve brainstorming, keeping a journal of potential story concepts, or drawing inspiration from real-life experiences, books, movies, or current events.

Once you get an idea, hone it.

Step 2: Create characters

A novel cannot be successful without unique and charming characters. Create compelling and well-rounded characters for your novel. Develop their backgrounds, motivations, personalities, and relationships. Consider their strengths, flaws, and how they will evolve throughout the story.

Remember, the more realistic the characters, the better the novel will be.

Step 3: Build setting

Establish the setting or world in which your novel takes place. Whether it's a real location or a fictional world, provide enough descriptive details to immerse readers and make the setting feel vivid and believable.

Step 4: Define plot and make an outline

What is your story about? How will it unfold? How does it begin, develop, and conclude? What and how many scenes will be included? Make an depth and very depth outline, even going so far as to outline every chapter.

Begin writing your first draft. Don't worry about perfection; the goal is to get the story down on paper. Embrace the creative process and let the ideas flow. Please remember, don't go back and make changes. Just write!

Step 6: Revise and edit

Once the first draft is complete, take a break (for 3 days) before revising and editing. (This will keep you from overediting or not editing enough.) Then, read through your manuscript with a critical eye, focusing on plot holes, inconsistencies, pacing, character development, and overall storytelling. Revise and rewrite sections as needed.

Step 7: Get beta readers

(You must) seek feedback from trusted individuals, such as beta readers, writing critique groups or your friends. Their input can provide valuable perspectives on areas that may need improvement. Consider their suggestions while maintaining your unique voice and vision for the story.

Step 8: Polish and refine

She exhaled a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding in as her patient stabilized. It had been two hours of intense tedious work to keep him alive. She takes off her gloves and washes her hands thoroughly before walking out of the room. She spots Laswell talking to another medic and joins them.

"y/l/n what updates do you have for me?" she asks 

"Everyone seems to be stabilized for now" 

"Who can you spare for the field?" 

"We don't have anyone here with combat experience" the other medic, Miranda answers. 

"what's going on?" she asks in concern

"Kyle's been hit, it's not looking good, they're requesting immediate medical" Laswell says running her hands through her hair

"I can go" she responds without hesitation 

"James this is a dangerous situation, the team is in active battle and there is no room for mistakes, a man's life is at stake"

"I can do this Laswell, its an extraction right? so I won't be in the fight I'll be giving Kyle medical attention" 

"fuck" Laswell curses "follow me and we'll get you prepped"

She followed her superior wordlessly as she rubbed her hands together nervously. She kept herself as calm as she could as a bulletproof vest was strapped to her torso and she was handed several weapons, including a gun and a few knives. She straps the medical kit on her back and holds the large military rifle in her hands, careful to point it to the ground. She'd placed her hair in a quick ponytail and followed the older woman to the helicopter pad along with the other soldiers who'd be aiding in the fight. 

"listen up everybody! this is an extraction, we're sending y/l/n to give Garrick medical aid. you are to assist her and watch her six, she is not to have a scratch on her. if she's not able to help then Garrick won't make it. It's your job to protect her - no matter the cost" she says looking at each one of them in the eye "Captain Price and Lieutenant Ghost are in command and will give you further instruction when you land, good luck" 

She grabs a soldier's arm and allows him to help her into the chopper. The ride was brief, but every second felt like an eternity as she braced herself for what awaited on the ground. She could hear the explosions and gunfire and she closed her eyes, as the pilot informed them they’d be landing here. Gunfire begins to hit the chopper and she holds onto it as it begins to spin. 

Ghost curses as he realizes that they were gonna crash and signals to the soldiers inside to jump out. He watches a rope drops to the ground and the team begins to lay down cover fire. He catches a glimpse of red hair in his peripheral vision and his head whips around so hard he was shocked his neck hasn’t strained. 

Her presence struck Ghost like a hammer blow. His heart sank, a rare emotion piercing through his stoic exterior. In that moment, he realized with a clarity that frightened him just how much he cared for her. The thought of something happening to her was unbearable. She had been through a few training sessions, but she was not equipped for this level of combat. The battlefield was no place for her, and the realization that she was here, in the midst of danger, shook him to his core.

Ghost’s eyes widened in horror as he saw her. He watched as the chopper got closer to the ground and the soldiers surrounded it, laying down additional cover. She jumps out holding her gun improperly and her eyes searching frantically for anyone on the team. Time seemed to slow as bullets rang through the air. Narrowly missing her.  

In the blink of an eye, Ghost lunged forward, grabbing her and pulling her down, shielding her body with his as bullets whizzed past them. He provided cover fire, his instincts taking over. The enemies were relentless, and the rest of her team was quickly overwhelmed. Ghost’s anger boiled over, fueled by a deep, unspoken fear.

"Stay down!" he barked, his voice a mix of command and desperation. He continued to shoot, each bullet finding its mark with deadly precision.

Seeing Ghost standing above her, she was able to feel a sense of relief amidst the chaos. She looked up at him watching as his strong body positioned itself in front of her, protecting her from any danger. 

The firefight was intense, but Ghost kept her safe, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. How could he focus on the mission when every fiber of his being was screaming to protect her? He needed to ensure her safety, but he also had to get them out of there alive. The dual responsibility was overwhelming.

“I’m gonna provide cover and I need you to run towards that pillar behind you got it?” Ghost demands, his gaze finding hers. She nods, her eyes wide and blown out as her body shakes. 

“On three” he commands “one, two, three, Go now!” he yells

Ghost shoots rapidly at the enemies and she sprints toward the pillar as quickly as she could. Bullets ring through the air and she trips on a body in her path. She pulls her body up off of the ground and continues to safety. The feeling of strong hands on her body catches her by surprise. Before she could react Ghost pulled her behind the pillar and held her back against his chest. Her chest heaving as she attempts to catch her breath. Ghost lets go of her and glares down at her with his dark eyes. 

“I need you to run to the corner of the building, I’ll be right behind you” he instructs.

She nods and wastes no time in making it to the building, she throws her back against the wall and leans on it with her eyes closed. Finally, they fought their way back to a relatively secure area. 

“Red?!” a familiar voice calls out

She opens her eyes and she frantically searches for him. His mohawk catches her eye and she nearly cries in relief as he sprints over to her. He places a hand on her shoulder, he was talking to her but her ears were ringing and her body shaking. Johnny recognized the blank stare and placed a hand on her shoulder, the other holding his gun up in case any of the enemy had made it past their perimeter. He leads her to the abandoned building they’d set up in and takes her gun off of her, dropping it to the side. She finally locks eyes with him as her hearing returns. 

“Johnny” she rasps 

“You okay Lass?”

“I’m good” she nods 

The masked man enters the building moments later, the anger radiating off of him as he approaches the medic, Ghost's anger exploded.

"What the hell are you doing here?" he yelled, his voice harsh and unforgiving. "You shouldn’t be anywhere near this!"

Still catching her breath, met his furious gaze with steady eyes. "Laswell sent me. No one else could go."

"That’s not good enough!" Ghost shouted, his fear masking as anger. "You’re not trained for this! You could’ve been killed!"

Before she could respond, Price intervened, his authoritative presence enough to quell Ghost's fury. "Enough, Ghost. We need to focus. Laswell sent her to save Gaz and that’s what she’ll do” 

Price nods to the young medic and offers her a small smile, which she returns. Johnny sighs, leading her to where Gaz lay gravely injured. Her medical training took over, and she worked with precision and calm, stabilizing Gaz and saving his life. She could feel eyes on her but she refused to let it distract her. The immediate crisis passed, but the tension between her and Ghost lingered.

As night fell, they had to stay put, waiting for an evacuation plan to be established. She stayed by Gaz’s side, ensuring he was stable. It wasn’t until Ghost entered the room silently, she looked up at him sensing a presence behind her and gasps sharply. 

“You scared the shit out of me”

“Sorry” he says as he sits down a few feet from her.

“He’s okay for now, but we need to get him back to the base, he’s still losing blood” she says 

“We’ve got two teams coming tomorrow at dawn”

“Good” she says softly, refusing to meet his eyes as she picked at her nails. 

He sighs, feeling guilty for his aggression earlier. He hadn’t meant to upset her, he was simply scared for her safety. Ghost had never been good with words, he didn’t know what to say - so he stretched his hand out to her - offering a candy bar. She looks at him in amusement and shakes her head gently. 

“Keep it, you need it more than me” she says gently as the breeze causes her to shiver slightly. 

"I shouldn’t have snapped at you," Ghost said. His voice was softer now. "I never wanted you to see this."

Her expression was resolute. "It’s my job, Ghost. I go where I’m needed."

He finally turned to face her, his gaze softening as he noticed her shivering. Without a word, he took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. "Get some rest. I’ll keep watch."

The next morning, they received evacuation orders. The extraction point was two blocks away, and they had to move quickly. Ghost placed her in the middle, with Soap and her supporting Gaz. He took the lead, his eyes scanning for threats. Every time a sniper took aim at them, Ghost was there, eliminating the threat before it could materialize.

As they neared the evacuation site, an explosion rocked the ground, sending debris flying. Ghost instinctively shielded her with his body, taking the brunt of the blast. The world spun around them, but they managed to stay on their feet, pushing forward until they reached the extraction point.

The sight of the helicopter with backup filled Ghost with a profound sense of relief. But his heart sank again when he saw her bloodied sleeve. A deep gash ran along her arm, and he gently touched it, causing her to wince in pain. He wordlessly lifts her into the Heli and helps the others before jumping in and sitting beside her, keeping his body between her and the open door as he fires down on the leftover enemies. 

“You’re bleeding y/l/n” Price notes

She hesitated, her instincts to take care of herself kicking in. “I’m fine”

“Make sure you get that taken care of when we get back” he responds, his strict tone making her nod. She places a hand on Gaz’s arm and stares out of the door, watching the scenery as they fly back to base. 

Once they arrive Ghost exits the chopper, while Price and Johnny carry the stretcher with Gaz on it to the med bay, he watches her stand and walk to the edge. He holds his arm out, she takes it and jumps down. Instantly feeling better now that they were back on base. She hurries after Gaz, Ghost hot on her trail. She enters the med bay and informs the others of his status. Before she could put gloves on to begin a blood transfusion Ghost grabbed her arm causing her to look up at him in annoyance. 

“You need to get that taken care of” he gestures to the blood dripping down her arm. 

"Fine" she says walking into the office, she takes off the long sleeve, leaving her in a black tank top. Ghost follows her into the office, his breath catching in his throat as he stares at her in awe. He hadn’t seen so much of her skin before. Typically her arms were covered by scrubs and a long sleeve underneath. His eyes follow from her chin down to her chest, admiring every inch before she looks up at him. 

“I’m good” she says

"Someone needs to take care of you for once," Ghost replied firmly, his eyes betraying a depth of concern she hadn’t seen before.

She nods and watches him take off his gloves, washing his hands as he puts some latex on. She gulps at the sigh of his tattoos and clenches her legs involuntarily. Ghost carefully cleaned and dressed the gash, his touch surprisingly gentle.

"Thank you for saving me," she said softly, her eyes meeting his.

Ghost looked at her, his expression serious but soft. "We look out for each other"

The bond between them, forged in the crucible of battle, had strengthened. They were comrades, but in that moment, they became something more—a team bound by trust and mutual respect, ready to face whatever came next together.

if you’re anything like me, you’re tearing your hair out at the root at the thought of a “finished” script. what does that even mean? finished? there’s always more to add, always more to be said in a script—how are you supposed to put any limit on what you desire?

for me, someone who’s self-proclaimed as greedy and functionally insatiable, i can never get enough of shouting to the universe and my subconscious what i want. every car, item of chic clothing, piece of furniture that i can see myself lounging on, friend i’d like to get on with, imagined cute moment with a lover, it all has to be mine, very specifically

thankfully, moodboarding is how you can make sure your subconscious knows all of your desires in their specificity, rather than you having to run your poor fingers ragged typing every singular shred of wanting into your script

moodboards? absolute game-changers, babe. just by cobbling a bunch of photos together into a hastily assembled Pinterest board, you’re basically saying, “here’s my order, thanks—make it snappy” to both the universe and your subconscious. when you drag together those dreamy pics, perfectly tuned-in quotes, and curated color schemes, you’re not just daydreaming—you’re blueprinting. you’re locking in on the energy of what you want, and trust, your subconscious eats that up

౨ৎ … GETTING A CLEAR PICTURE

moodboards provide the ultimate clarity. once you slap a picture onto a desire—whether it’s pinning it to your Pinterest, dragging it into your Canva collage, or just casually thinking, “that SO fits my DR”—you’re locking that vision in. it’s not just a vibe anymore; it’s an intention, babe. you’re adding more detail to the reality, saying, “yup, this is where i’m going :)”

plus, it’s fun. you’re not just scrolling mindlessly; you’re curating your future. picking that red vintage convertible? that’s you putting links on your Christmas list to make sure you get exactly what you were looking for. it makes your DR feel real—tangible. you’re not just talking about your DR or searching for the right words to describe it; you’re seeing it, feeling it, absorbing it. it turns abstract manifestations into, “oh yeah, I can taste it.”

attaching an image to anything makes it feel real, a basic tenet of visualization in any situation, even to those with no interest in shifting. it gives your mind something solid to hold onto, “I already know what this looks and feels like” so it’s immeasurably easier to convince your mind the truth: you’re already there. just from looking at your curated pictures, you can smell the salty ocean air, feel a cozy cashmere sweater, or taste that overpriced (read: in your price range in your DR) caramel swirl latte

when you specify exactly what you want to your subconscious, and all it takes to do that is to look at a photo you particularly like and declare “it’s mine” it starts plotting, aligning, making moves without you even realizing it. moodboards are more than just aesthetic—they’re manifestation GPS. set the intention, attach the visual—as many visuals as you want, and boom !! you’ve got a crystal-clear roadmap that ensures you not only wake up in your DR, but that you wake up in your DR equipped with everything you’ve ever even considered wanting there

౨ৎ … WHAT IF I’M NOT SPECIFIC ENOUGH?

you know how the longer you have a phone, the more accurate the autocorrect and predictive text get? because your phone has gotten to know you and the way you talk, so now it can finish your sentences, and it knows what you mean.

your subconscious is like the OG predictive text but on steroids. it’s been clocking your every thought, feeling, and intention since day one. it’s taking notes, memorizing your quirks, and connecting dots you didn’t even know existed. so when you toss your desires out into the universe, you don’t have to micromanage the process—your subconscious is already way ahead of you

think of it like setting your GPS to “ideal reality,” but you don’t have to map every single turn and rest stop on the way there. you just punch in the destination (like that unbelievably chic house with the wrap-around porch, or the boyfriend who’s possessive but not in a gross toxic way, ugh) and your subconscious figures out the scenic route, including all the amenities you hadn’t even thought of. it’s the ultimate ride-or-die, working behind the scenes to align opportunities, ideas, and vibes without you lifting a finger

and the best part? it’s fluent in your language. you don’t need to over-explain, overthink, or stress the details (ahem, glances at your script pointedly)—your subconscious already knows you want the serena van der woodsen aesthetic, the red convertible, or the life that screams, “i’ve arrived.” it’s like handing the steering wheel off to an omniscient best friend who already knows your coffee order, your playlist, and how you like your fries. trust it. stay locked on the vision, and your subconscious will handle the rest, filling in the blanks like the intuitive, all-knowing God it is

For 2024, pile 1, I see that there is going to be some big changes! "Out with the old, in with the new". In 2023, you could have paid a big service to others by helping them with their needs, which led to putting everyone else above your own personal goals. Helping others can be a good thing but it is alright to be "selfish" at times! I feel that you think if you do good by others you will attract good karma into your life or the universe will magically bless you for your good deeds, when that's not how it works. If you wish for change, you have to be the change you seek. For 2024, you should focus on your self concept and understanding how the 3D works. The 3D reality is your external world, it will reflect back to your most inner prominent thoughts. You have the key to manifest your best potential. Harness your skills and work on improving them. Be careful with your triggers as well. The universe will test you along your journey. So you may experience things that are an inconvenience or attract things you may not necessarily "want". For example, if you are manifesting wealth in 2024, but keep having issues with your finances. Instead of reacting to this and having thoughts or complaints that you're "broke". Release the fears that you have regarding abundance. If you are manifesting money but only receive a $20 dollar bill, be grateful for that $20 dollar bill, for someone else may not even have cash at all. Think of it as a small start to success. You have to liberate yourself from limiting beliefs and see the prosperity that surrounds you and that it is also given to you. If you are someone who sees things as "glass half empty", your perspective will change graciously and the blessings in 2024 will teach you how to see with a "glass half full". The new year will provide you with inner peace and clarity within yourself. You will also be divinely guided and protected during this time!
