I love how unsanitized The Terror feels. Like there’s grime everywhere. You can tell those men smell bad. When they do surgery you can hear the bone being cut, when they get sick they look genuinely ill. The main character’s actor even has pockmarks, he LOOKS like he could be from the 1800s! And idk, I think it’s cool that we’re so aware of the characters’ carnal desires. They’re hungry, thirsty, freezing, etc, and it is so obvious that they have a body with needs!!
I think this also accounts for how horny the show feels, even though everyone is bundled up 90% of the time and there are no real romantic subplots. Besides the fact that it’s a very carnal show, it just has the intimacy and grime of true horniness. Is this thing on

I'm slowly getting ready to pack my bags, for the flight scheduled for tomorrow to Paris, ✈️ The hardest part is not getting everything into the suitcase, it's simply leaving 🇨🇦 😕
But I will find my little wild animal, Cachou 🐈‍⬛ I will have missed him 🥰

The thing about HotD is that it while it absolutely minimizes the agency and ambition of both Rhaenyra and Alicent, this is specifically used to glorify Rhaenyra and frame her as righteous while condemning Alicent and framing her lacking. That's the key difference in both their textual portrayals that has directly led to 90% of the fandom hailing Rhaenyra as the second coming of Christ while spewing the most hateful vitriol at Alicent just for existing. But y'all are not prepared for that conversation.

You know what line is spoken so casually but breaks my heart every. single. freaking. time?
Lucy: She's in pain...
Lockwood: Of course she is, she's dead.
Lockwood believes that any afterlife ghosts (and possibly all people) experience is agony. From this simple line, we see into his mind and find that he thinks his parents, his sister, any agents or friend or anyone else he's lost- he thinks they're suffering.
...as someone who's lost a close relative recently, I can't imagine how hard it would be to grieve properly and healthily if I believed that they were hurting. My grandpa was in a lot of pain before he passed away, but now that he's on the other side (the true other side, not the limbo we see ghosts trapped in), I know he's at peace. I personally believe he's in heaven, the literal best place anyone could ever be, and that thought, that knowledge, brings me so much comfort.
No wonder Lockwood has such a hard time letting go, he must think that holding onto his family's memory is the only way he can make their supposed suffering somehow worth it.
To anyone who's in the same boat as him, I just want you to know it's okay to let them go. They're okay now. Holding onto what they went through in life or right before their life ended is not going to help them, it's only hurting you. It's hard to let yourself grieve and harder to let yourself heal but I promise it's worth it. We saw Lockwood do it with the help of his new friends and family and I know you and I can do it too.

Broke: Being bit by the spider fixed Peter's eyesight and his need for glasses.
Woke: The reason Peter has those big lenses on his suit is because he can't wear his glasses under the mask and the lenses are actually prescription.

Since 2016 I (Dot Porter aka @leoba) have been offering Virtual Classroom Visits through the Schoenberg Institute for Manuscript Studies, along with my colleague, Schoenberg Curator of Manuscripts Nick Herman. Essentially these are video conferences where we share manuscripts from Penn's collections with classes at institutions that might not have firsthand access to primary resources. These are usually 1-2 hour visits that can be curated to specific course requirements, and we can offer them at levels ranging from K-12 through graduate school. For book history in particular it can be interesting to include "hands-on virtual" experiences alongside the usual analog vs. digital dichotomy.
You can find out more at this page on the SIMS website, and there are several sample manuscript lists linked there (ranging from Chaucer to History of Science; however we have many more books that aren't on the list! Please don't hesitate to email me if this sounds like something you might be interested in scheduling this year or in the future.

▶ Wilding
One of the most common "rituals" in the nomad community is called (by the anti-nomad media) "wilding". Wilding is when a group of nomads, usually all youths, venture into static society to "see what it's all about." It is a fairly new occurence in the nomad community, but has gained an increasing interest among the youth. Despite the name and media portrayal, most wildings are peaceful and boring. ━ NeoTribes, page 21

Immersing myself in a book to end the evening, but more than a book, a collection of poems, this collection was printed clandestinely at it's time.
