I want to show off this really cool vintage school book I bought from an antique mall in Savannah, Ga last year.

Sure, the cover is pretty cool. Beautiful embossed details and considering this book is 140+ years old, it's in pretty good condition. That's not why I got it though.
Tumblr media
This book belonged to Lyman Ellsworth of East Berkshire Vermont, and he dated it January 28th 1882. He misspelled his name on this first page, which is pretty cute.
Tumblr media
Also the copyright page, just because I think it's cool. But my favorite parts are the bits Ellsworth left behind of himself.
Tumblr media
Love the blue ink splatter by where he was writing. He must have been a bit older as his handwriting is much nicer than earlier. Also the sideways note in the top corner. "The Teacher is going to be married pretty soon you see she feels well this morning any way (profily) that was..." I can't make out the rest of the note, or what "Profily" is supposed to say. Maybe someone here will have better luck with it.
Tumblr media
I think he was exchanging love notes on this page. Adorable.
The first one on top reads "Lyman is your name and happy is your life & happ is (I can't make out her name I'm sorry) when you take her for your ..." it's probably fair to assume it says wife.
A little "roses are red" poem, which looks like it was written by someone else.
"How would you like to-" like to what?
And a slightly different version of the first poem:
"Lyman is his name and happy happy is his life and happ is ____ when he takes her for his wife."
Also I am obsessed with his drawings:

One of these guys is smoking a cigarette and is labeled "Master of Powers" which is pretty awesome. I feel like this would make a pretty cool album cover

Self portrait?
Thought I'd share, because I am delighted to own this vestige of a person who likely has been completely forgotten. I hope he lived a good life.

The last day of August came with unexpected warmth, but since tomorrow is September, I decided to subtly decorate for fall anyway. The day was spent at my favorite café just before my lecture in church and cloister architecture in the Middle Ages. Now I am back home, with lots of tea again, studying some more while waiting for the cool evening to come. 🎞️🏛️🕰️☕️

Physical media is so dear to me
but not always in the cute
"Look at my collection!! Look at how well organized it is!! Look at all I've got and am getting"
kinda way
But sometimes in a very feral, stars-in-eyes, foam-at-mouth
"Look at my collection!! Look at how well organized it is!! Look at all I've got and am getting"
kinda way

With this year being dedicated to X-Men Fun Facts, it was the perfect time to add this vintage ornament of Wolverine to the tree! 🎄
This awesome piece from Carlton Cards’ Heirloom Collection was released back in 2004 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the character’s comic book debut. It’s been discontinued ever since, so imagine my surprise when I was able to find one – complete with the original packaging, no less!

Check this out.
I know this is a myth. Red squirrels do not cross rivers in little boats. But it's driving me mad that I can't find anything about the myth on the internet. The writers of this book (Things in the Forest by Mary & Elizabeth Kirby 1874) even say that Linnaeus observed it in Lapland, so why can't I find it!?
Anyway, the internet is sorely lacking in antique images of squirrels in boats (or on rafts?) so I'm putting one here. You're welcome.
Tumblr media
If anyone can find out where this idea came from I'd love to see it because I can't find a trace on the biggest encyclopedia that's ever existed (the internet).

Vintage Haul! ✨🌟👀
Tumblr media
My 3rd vintage Trigun shirt and some goodies from a DVD box set. 😊
Tumblr media
Both this necklace and the interchangeable coin keychain are from the Trigun 98 Collector's Edition DVD with the steel books. Possibly the best version because it has the most Extra content like concept art.
I will need to find another necklace for the bullet pendant because I have the the neck of a Rottweiler 😅🥲.
