The last day of August came with unexpected warmth, but since tomorrow is September, I decided to subtly decorate for fall anyway. The day was spent at my favorite café just before my lecture in church and cloister architecture in the Middle Ages. Now I am back home, with lots of tea again, studying some more while waiting for the cool evening to come. 🎞️🏛️🕰️☕️

Since I’m starting an antique doll collection, I figured I’d post about them here:
This is Liza and Helga, my two German child dolls. Liza (dark hair) is a 30” Heinrich Handwerck bisque head with a paper mache jointed body, circ 1905-1925. She has brown glass sleep eyes and a human hair wig, replaced by me since her old wig was falling apart. The bigger blond doll is Helga. She is a 32” kestner with blue glass fixed eyes (they have been replaced, not by me) and a jointed composition body that has been stamped “excelsior germany”. Her wig is also fragile, so I will be replacing it with another vintage human hair wig, like I’ve done with Liza.

The newest addition to my collection is Aurora, a 24” German character baby lorie, circ 1912. She has a domed bisque open mouth baby head, with blue glass sleep eyes, and a four piece chubby composition bent limb baby body. Her stringing is somewhat loose, requiring you to support her head like a real baby. I just love her.

I hope to post more of my collection as I acquire more dolls:)

Rate my vanity setup! I collect antiques and my bathroom is one of my more sacred places, both physically for myself, and spiritually for the love gods i worship like Freya and Aphrodite, so I have some very prized pieces in here! These include:
- A Victorian silver plate hairbrush and mirror set engraved “R” for the grandmother of the person I bought it from, Catherine Renkin. (C. 1890s)
- A Victorian Gorham sterling silver and tortoiseshell comb. (C. 1887)
- An Edwardian French ebony and sterling silver pocket brush (c. 1912)
- A sterling silver plate Victorian jewelry box with pink satin lining I use for my stickpins and bar pins (c. 1889)
- An art deco leather, brass and velvet jewelry box (c. 1930s)
- a Greek key pattern porcelain mini wash basin pitcher (c. 1918)
- Victorian hand painted forget me not porcelain toothpick holders I use for hat pins (c. 1890s-1900s)
- Johnson and bros blue fade delft porcelain soap dish. (C. 1882)
If you want to see the other side of the vanity, lmk!
