1910 Bernard Boutet de Monvel (French, 1881 - 1949), Two Equestriennes.
Datable to around 1910, the present sheet is a fine example of Bernard Boutet de Monvel’s refined draughtsmanship. As the scholar StΓ©phane-Jacques Addade has noted, β€˜Boutet de Monvel’s work...was striking for the pared back and rectilinear qualities that were so characteristic of the sleekness of his style. In place of sinuous curves, elaborate volutes and glistening golds, he preferred the pure, controlled lines of a pale outline...This productive economy of means led him to also make color subordinate to line.’ (x)

More spindle nonsense!
A sample of merino/silk blend. Doesn't look all that fine, but this is laceweight enough that I kept worrying about dropping the spindle. Which I haven't yet... aside from that one time where I forgot this isn't a bottom-whorl spindle and tried to get it started upside down, danged muscle memory.
This definitely doesn't feel like a beginner spindle and its rhythm doesn't exactly make for a leisurely spinning experience, it's so finnicky to keep steady (it's capable of spinning so evenly you can barely tell it's moving at all, but if you as much as draft too quickly, it'll tumble) and it's so goddamn fast you have to stay focused on it constantly, but it also makes spinning fine, even yarns pretty much effortless. If I wanted to spin cotton with a drop spindle for some fucking reason, I think this one would be the one to choose.
Unlike my bottom-whorl spindles, which are kind of ass to spin with sitting down, this one's also a perfect desk chair spindle; the timing of its spin just works out great for spinning shorter lengths at a time.
I am... really not looking forward to plying this stuff, lmao. A center-pull ball would be super annoying to wind AND likely tangle in the middle, and a plying bracelet would have me risking fingers given the length... and I hate chain-plying with a burning passion.
I'm also pondering 2-ply vs cabled 4-ply and am very muchly open to suggestions!

Paul Poiret (French, ) was one of the most influential fashion designers of the first half of the 20th century. He is credited with freeing women from the corset with his draped, unstructed styles that revolutionized the fashion world. Instead of tailoring, Poiret designed his fashions by draping and folding, creating unique pieces that echoed the traditional styles of the East. Art Deco fashion also became synonymous with Paul Poiret.
β€œWhenever I sign a garment with my name, I consider myself the creator of the masterpiece.” – Paul Poiret

Sorbet, created in 1912, is one of Poiret's signature designs. It was referred to as the "lampshade dress".

Poiret's first successful design was a kimono coat which he created while working for the design house of Jacques Doucet.

Poiret's original designs and his ability to market his styles in new ways changed the fashion landscape forever. He designed outfits for film actresses, creating opportunities for his styles to be seen and credited beyond the runway. He was quite the bon vivant – a masterful host of events and parties that showcased his latest styles.

The costume pictured above was influenced by the Russian dance company, Ballets Russes, when it performed in Paris. Poiret designed the costume for his 1002nd Night party in 1911, where it created tremendous publicity for his fashion house.

Antique Georgian Pearl Diamond Heart Pendant
A rare find, this wonderfully crafted antique Georgian pendant has woven natural seed pearls into a heart shape with a sparkling center diamond. The diamond is set in sterling silver with even the bale of the heart having a woven loop. All layers are woven and stitched to mother-of-pearl back in which small holes were drilled for the thread to pass and fasten the ornament securely. All this is handwork done pearl by pearl, which makes it more the treasure! Very hard to find woven pearl jewelry retaining all the pearls and threading secure. https://boylerpf.com/products/antique-georgian-seed-pearl-diamond-heart-pendant
