Have any advice on how to get characters to fall in love?

I don’t know if you know this, but love is complicated. Being in love is not a simple process, and t doesn’t always last. Sadly, reaching the moment where two people fall in love doesn’t always make your story complete. Sometimes that is just the start of the story, but I’m getting off track here.

I’ve got two options for you on this question, and the first one, I don’t recommend. I’m going to talk about it so I can explain why you don’t want to use it.

First, you are the author. What you put on the page is the story for good or for bad. One option that you have is to tell the audience that the two characters are in love. That seems simple, doesn’t it? Hollywood and television does that all the time.

I don’t like it though. “Here are two characters with nothing in common that seem to hate each other, but now they are in love. No need to explain. That is lazy writing and will come back to bite you.

So what other option do you have? Give your characters a chance to interact in group settings and alone. Let them get to know each other. Let them find out what they have in common and that is different. Give them a chance to see what they like about each other.

As they continue to interact and learn more about each other, it will seem natural for them to grow closer, maybe even fall in love.
