Drakkar pendant - 49$
★Material: High Quality Solid 960 Sterling Silver★
◉ Small Viking Longship Pendant: Weight: approx. 7.5 grams (0.26 oz) Diameter: 22 mm (0.86 inches) One-sided viking pendant
◉ Medium Viking Longship Pendant: Weight: approx. 16 grams (056 oz) Diameter: 35 mm (1.37 inches) One-sided viking pendant
The Drakkar Pendant, also known as the Viking Longship Pendant, is a round silver pendant with Viking ornamentation adorning its circumference. At the center of the pendant, you will find the symbol of a Viking longship.    The Vikings, known as "pirate raiders," were skilled seafarers who embarked on voyages of exploration and plunder. The word "Viking" originates from the Old Norse term "Vikingr," which means "pirate raid." Their sea vessels, often referred to as "horses of the waves," symbolized speed and power. During the period between 850 and 1000 AD, the Vikings ventured to various countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, North Africa, and even discovered Iceland, Greenland, and Newfoundland.    The Vikings were renowned shipbuilders, and their most famous vessel was the longship. The longship, also called the Viking longboat, was a powerful and versatile ship. It had an average length of 25-30 meters and could accommodate up to 60 men. In addition to longships, the Vikings also utilized other types of boats such as Knarrs and Karves. These ships were not only used for exploration and raids but also had symbolic significance in funerals, representing a safe passage to the afterlife.    The Viking longship was instrumental in the Vikings' success in their travels. As their raids yielded rewards, the Vikings built larger ships like the Skeid and the Busse, allowing them to travel in larger parties over vast oceans, thus aiding them in acquiring valuable treasures.    The Drakkar Pendant, or Viking Longship Pendant, pays homage to the Viking's maritime prowess and adventurous spirit. Crafted from sterling silver, it embodies the artistry and craftsmanship of Viking jewelry. It serves as a tangible connection to Viking history and represents the Vikings' fearless exploration and powerful seafaring capabilities.    Wear the Drakkar Pendant proudly as a symbol of Viking heritage and the spirit of adventure associated with the Viking longships. Let it serve as a constant reminder of the Vikings' legacy and their remarkable achievements on the seas.

the Majesty of Odin: An Unforgettable Viking Tattoo from Bali's Tattoo Studio
Tumblr media
In a stunning display of artistry and reverence for Norse mythology, a captivating tattoo depicting Odin, the formidable Viking God, has emerged from the creative hands of Bali's renowned tattoo studio. Meticulously crafted, this striking portrayal captures Odin as an aged and wise figure, sporting a Viking helmet and a distinctive blind eye that exudes both strength and enigma. The scene is further elevated with the addition of a majestic Viking ship, navigating treacherous seas, resonating with the spirit of adventure and conquest. This masterful work of art stands as a true testament to the epic tales of Odin and his captivating presence in Viking lore.

Dragons, drakkar and Northmen from 'Paean to Whitby', which I'm in the process of mounting and framing. Limited Editions of 'Paean' are going to be on sale at The Captain Cook Museum' in Whitby from February onwards. As the musem gets quite a few tourists from Down Under (the Cook connection for those not 'in the know'), she may even end up in Australia or New Zealand. Wow, that'd be something. ⚓️🪓 #whitbyharbour #whitbyheritage #whitbytown #northmen #yorkshirehistory #vikinghistory #vikingsofinstagram #drakkar #captaincook # #cooksjourney #greatexplorations #yorkshireexplorer #vikingship #dragonsofinstagram #knotwork #celticart #blackandwhiteart #illustrationarts #captaincookmuseum #whitbytourism #cookinaustralia #australiahistory #whitbyart #whitbyartist #anthonyhodgsonart https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn-DGlkMRAm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Daily... ship building :) Built the Viking ship but need to add the shields to finish.... might take a while... I decided not to use the shield transfers and Ellie and Angela have been throwing animal suggestions at me. Not sure if they're recognisable as I'm paint little plastic shields that are smaller than a 5p coin :) #revell #revellmodels #vikingship #modelling (at Headington, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmwtaSCMAk7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hedeby

I don't really see myself as a builder, but I have my moments.

A vikingship based of the Oseberg ship. It's a bit dull texture/color wise, but I'm still proud of it.

My first home/build on Everland SMP. It's wonky, but cozy :P (The portal tower in the background is a design by foxel, I changed some of the blocks up)

Interior decorating is hard, but I really like this super tiny reading nook underneath some stairs
I can be a lil harsh on myself for not being particularly good at any part of mc, so I felt like I wanna brag a bit about the stuff I have built I like. As well as remind myself that it's not like I've been playing minecraft for many many years.

okay I'll read this later but, I remember visiting Roskilde and their vikingship museum where they do a lot of (functional) ship recreations. This whole bit about there not being/not being enough of a certain wood type which used to be much taller and thicker, and thus it may complicate the recreations which are one sorta endangered technology/handcraft knowledge, was a point I took despaired note of. Imagine partly studying history/archaeology in hope of focusing more on the past to not get too consumed in your despair for the future (sci-fi isn't my fondest genre for a reason), only to see lines in the past and very pointed marks abt our modern and future climate situation (ex. melting ice revealing well preserved objects that had been stuck in the ice for a really long time, for excitement and for worry) (I do genuinely enjoy it though don't worry, in ways because of this too, ✨ perspective ✨).
Edit: okay read. Not gonna comment much at all, informative (not fact-checked), but yea. Just wanna say I really do appreciate more hopeful attitudes that say "it's not yet all lost, change, and positive change at that, is possible, do not give up upon humanity as a whole because of a section of it, humanity isn't inherently harmful".
Besides, when just considering these types of posts which despair about what "once was", one thing to keep in mind is always: change =/= bad (+ the whole bit about the worries about climate change is in large part a worry about our own continued survival, the earth will be fine), idk. + fun fact: as someone noted in the notes, the whole log pictures bit, I can't say I'm an expert in anyway, I don't know the specifics, but the ring thickness (other than the age) is about drier/more wet seasons and location, there's a reason dendrochronology is one form of dating for archaeology because we may be able to figure out the dating from an available sequence in the relevant area.

Drakkar (wood carving) - 150$
Material: oak Diameter - 25 cm (9,84 inch.) The name 'Viking' comes from the word 'Vikingr' (Old Norse) meaning 'pirate raid'. The Norse people were said to be 'going Viking' when they set sail to explore and loot and their sea vessels were 'horses of the waves' symbolic of speed and power. During the period 850-1000 AD, the Vikings explored many countries including The United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy as well as North Africa. They also discovered Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland. The Viking people were amazing ship builders and their most famous ship, the longship was the most powerful vessel. On average, a Viking longship measured approximately 25-30 metres could hold up to 60 men. They also commonly used boats called Knarrs and Karves. The Viking boats were also used in funerals and were symbolic of safe passage to the afterlife.
The Viking longboat was the key to the Vikings success in travelling. The various classes of boat employed by the Vikings would of course have grown over time. Larger boats like the Skeid and the Busse would have been built as the results of successful initial raids. These larger ships would have allowed the Vikings to travel in larger parties, over larger oceans, of course helping them obtain their valued treasures.

As the Iceland trip drew to a close I realized that I had not managed to take images of the famous and iconic "Sun Voyager" sculpture on the waterfront in Reykjavik. A popular misconception is that the sculpture represents a Viking Ship. However, that is not quite the case. According to the sculptor, Jón Gunnar Árnason, it represents a vessel of dreams. On the last afternoon there I had a couple of free hours so headed down to the waterfront to see it and grab some shots. I made a great many exposures as usual and here are a few of my results. #waterfront #sunvoyager #vikingship #sculpture #streetphotography #Reykjavík #iceland #landoffireandice #travelphotography #makememories #travelgram #wanderlust #travel_awesome #travelgram #travelbug #instatravel #chrislordnyc #chrislord #pixielatedpixels #nycphotographer #yourcustomtravels #icelandtravel #icelandtrip #exploreiceland #icelandnature #ontheroad #icelandadventure #icelandphotography #icelandlove ©2022 Chris Lord's Pixielated Pixels - So much more to see and\or purchase on my website where there surely is something for every taste.
