'Please' and 'thank you' never stopped him from getting hurt. Biting did. Scratching and yelling, that did. But sometimes that would also make things worse. Sometimes it would get him strapped down and put through more surgeries.

He had a feeling most of this was going over the other's head, but did he care enough to fix that? No, not really. Plus, this guy was lucky enough, he was giving the other the time of day. Too bad he wasn't appreciating it.

"Not all the Gods here are so kind or forgiving. It's best that you watch your mouth." It came out a bit like a threat but, it was a warning. "You should show respect anyway, kid. Politeness can get you far in this world."

🔸With YOU-th, TWICE's 13th Mini Album Discussion and Review

The actual review of the album songs which includes both information of the songs and my personal opinions.

A conclusion of my final thoughts of the album as a whole and its place in the entirety of TWICE's discography.

Short TL;DR section of the whole blog post with a total ranking of all the songs in the album.

I am going to start my TWICE's discography reviews with their newest KR release, With You-th. On their official album-selling website (twiceshop.com), this new release is described as an album that "tells the members' tight sisterhood and unbreakable bond" and that it is "[providing] a glimpse into their radiant youth together" (source directly from twiceshop.com).

The album was released on February 23, 2014. It has a total of 6 tracks, with I GOT YOU being a pre-release and ONE SPARK as the title track. While I listened to I GOT YOU on release and enjoyed it, I didn't listen to ONE SPARK fully until this week (March 3, 2014 - March 9, 2014). My rating system is pretty simple, it goes from 1 to 10 (TWICE reference, get it). 1 being absolute crappy poopoo, 5 being mediocre (won't listen to again unfortunately), and 10 being perfection. Every point increase is HUGE, a 7/10 is a good song but not special... maybe I'll listen to it if my playlist has the song, or maybe I'll only listen to it today and move on tomorrow. Now an 8/10? You bet I'm coming back for seconds and thirds for this song! IMPORTANT!!! I want to remind everyone that the opinions are of my own, and everyone has different opinions. Music taste is subjective, you can enjoy what you like and I can enjoy mine. This is for fun and should not be taken seriously. Another reminder is that there is a TL;DR section at the end that summarizes everything with a total ranking of every song in the album.

Now, here are my first impressions:

𓇢𓆸🦋〰˚ ༘ ೀ⋆｡˚🏵️

I GOT YOU (pre-release): This is TWICE's third original English release. It's a pop song with heavy synth and disco elements (is it called synth-pop haha) with a total length of 2:53 minutes. The song is cute and easy to follow. The lyrics of the song are nice and can be seen both in a platonic and romantic way. My favourite part is the pre-chorus sung by Momo and Dahyun: "No, we'll never fall apart Even million miles apart We were lightning from the start And it keeps me going to know that" This song is safe, as always with English releases. However, if we consider all of TWICE's English releases, Moonlight Sunrise and The Feels are stronger in my opinion. This is a 7/10 for me if I'm just listening to it. The music video though... a 10/10 and one of my new favourites.

𓇢𓆸🦋〰˚ ༘ ೀ⋆｡˚🏵️

ONE SPARK (title track): As the title track of the album, the song mixes TWICE's new and more grown music identity with a catchy tune. It's a fast dance-pop song with lots of drum and bass. The song has a length of 3:04 and has a classic pop arrangement (intro, verses, pre-choruses, chorus, and bridge). I was surprised when I realized that Momo's part in the pre-chorus was the best part for me. The way Momo sang "Bring me the, bring me the spark in my veins. Give me the freedom, the freedom to chase..." gave me chills. Momo's raspy and unique voice added so much contrast to the more melodic voice of Jihyo, I think I might loop the song specifically for that. Overall this is a solid addition to TWICE's hefty discography, and I know that if the girlies go on tour again - ONE SPARK will be a hit for the audiences. For the rating, the song is a 7/10 or 8/10 depending on my mood. I CAN'T STOP ME and FANCY is still that girl if we're talking about songs with a more mature sound by TWICE. I will discuss the music video more in a new post that focuses specifically on it, but it was classic and absolutely stunning to watch. P.S. Honestly, there's a chance this title track might work its magic in my brain and force me to love it, I'll update you if it ever gets to me.

𓇢𓆸🦋〰˚ ༘ ೀ⋆｡˚🏵️

Rush: While I knew that the UK garage sound was starting to pop up in Kpop thanks to PinkPantheress influence (queen), I somehow didn't expect TWICE to make a version of it. Chaeyoung was the one to write the lyrics for the song, and she states that she was inspired by PinkPantheress (queen again omg). The song has obvious drum and bass with a Jersey club rhythm combined with soft synth elements. The song runs for a total of 2:36 minutes, which is perfect for catchy and straightforward songs. For a B-side, this is a strong song. It's fun and easy to listen to, and it was so catchy that it almost brainwashed me. TWICE's soft and feminine voice paired with the beats was like the perfect combo of a super sweet fruit with salt. Mina and Sana popped off so badly on this song, that I almost fell in love with them romantically. I also want to note the lyrics in this song are the cutest from the album. This song is an 8/10 or 9/10 depending on the mood. This song WILL be added to multiple Spotify playlists, I will be looping this song until I forget it due to amnesia caused by a car crash... a car crash caused by me looping this song in my future car.

𓇢𓆸🦋〰˚ ༘ ೀ⋆｡˚🏵️

NEW NEW: As the 4th track of the album, this song did not disappoint me personally. The song runs for 3:01 minutes, with heavy drum and bass and electro sounds. The beat drop in the song before the chorus hits reminds me of the house genre that hit the K-pop scene by storm during the late 2010s. This is the "brightest" sounding song in the album so far, it's very upbeat and happy. The chants in the song were added tastefully. Again, I have to praise Momo for her distinct voice. HER VOICE IS SO GOOD IN THIS SONG! This is also the first/last song with a distinct rap verse. Jeongyeon personally stated that this song reminds her of music they did at the start of their career and I can definitely hear it! The song is an 8/10, and I need people to add this song as a club or festival banger. I think if I listen to this song more, it'll slowly sneak up and become one of my new favourites. However, I think this song is one of those where you have to be into the genre to like.

𓇢𓆸🦋〰˚ ༘ ೀ⋆｡˚🏵️

BLOOM: The 5th track of the album starts itself in an ultra-unique way and runs at a length of 3:23 minutes. This song gives a completely different vibe than any other song in the album. BLOOM lyrics were written by Jeongyeon and was considered as a B-side for Jihyo's solo debut mini album Zone. Considering the background of this track, this is the most mature-sounding track of the album. It's a pop track with influence from up-tempo R&B with deep synth and a fast-tempo drum and bass. This song made me think of tracks from MORE & MORE for some reason, as it is a bit more experimental for TWICE in my opinion. In conclusion, the song is a 7/10 for me. It's solid but I think I need more time to digest its sound. For now, this song is my least favourite from the album personally.

𓇢𓆸🦋〰˚ ༘ ೀ⋆｡˚🏵️

YOU GET ME: The 1st verse of the song made me suspicious at first, but the song progressed more... I fell in love! The track is a dance-pop with synths and a fun bassline. The song has a length of 2:32, and while I am not the biggest fan of 2-minute songs... this one didn't make me mad. The lyrics were written by Dahyun, and she says that this song is a sequel to I GOT YOU. The song is cute while maintaining a mature vibe. I have to say that MiSaMo and Tzuyu's voices were the greatest contributors to this song. Their voices alone helped this cute song maintain a mature vibe. The best part of the song has got to be the transition from the 1st verse to the 1st pre-chorus, and it is specifically that part. I felt my body jump up like a razor clam being dosed in salt, it was so beautiful. This is a 9/10 for me as it is right up my alley, and I think this is my favourite song from this album. It's easy to listen to with a danceable beat. Cute and short, but developed enough to not sound incomplete. Now to address the fact that the song is a sequel to I GOT YOU... the lyrics are stronger in this track and I can see how they connect to each other. My favourite lyrics are "Oh, when I'm with you, I'm the best of me". It's simple and strong.

𓇢𓆸🦋〰˚ ༘ ೀ⋆｡˚🏵️

Overall: This is a solid 8/10 mini album, there were no bad songs at all. In my opinion, it’s up there with Feel Special and BETWEEN 1&2 mini albums for their B-sides. The side tracks of this album were stronger than the main title track in my opinion, which isn't a bad thing! For the member that did the strongest this comeback... I think I have to give Momo the crown. She absolutely shined this comeback, and I have to say that her parts made the experience for this album! Of course... Nayeon too :) Furthermore, if we are discussing the album as a whole, excluding NEW NEW, it has a pretty consistent sound. I'll say only 3 songs (I GOT YOU, ONE SPARK, and YOU GET ME) told the messages of "being there for each other after everything" and "being happy with each other now". Personally, every song other that BLOOM gave a nod to the theme of "Youth" as well. I also want to note this is one of the best-named albums by TWICE, WITH YOUTH but can also be seen as WITH YOU... they ate I fear!

No One Knows

An old woman says to me: 'You are unhappy'. She then precariously holds the handle of a cup of tea between her thumb and forefinger, sticks out her chin. A young woman smoking beside her turns around and says over my shoulder: 'You are unhappy'. Her unbrushed hair is bunched on top of her head and some bits of biscuit are spilled from the edges of her mouth onto the breast of her T-shirt.

Under a wonderfully sunny sun. Wonderfully cheerful accordion band playing. At a pavement café in the early morning, a street sweeper is relaxing in a daze with a cup of coffee. An ant is swimming peacefully in a drop of spilt milk on the table. The street sweeper in overalls brushes off an olive that has fallen on his lap, takes a book out of the bag at his feet and begins to read it intently. The book has a familiar title on its cover.

It was a book I had written. For a long time I was alone at the bottom of the deep sea. The dim moonlight passed through the water and illuminated tenderly my writing pad. Every morning, a swarm of sardines formed a dense cylindrical formation and became a pneumatic tube system, express delivering postcards of ports from straits all over the world. Every afternoon, my small fantasies with compressed air were delivered to the publishers through the tube. Before long, I ran out of paper and pen ink, but the story I wrote became a bestseller.

People walk down the street with books in their arms, no one knows it is my story. No one knows that the old woman comes to the café with her meagre pension hidden in her hat, no one knows that the accordion band is missing one of its members, much less that the smoking woman has changed her brand of cigarettes. I have no way of knowing whether the book that the road sweeper shoved into his overalls pocket will be taken home and become his dream under his pillow or incinerated in a waste disposal plant. It is no use crying for a tale of the ant drowned over spilt milk.

He held the soap behind his back and huffed with agitation, wanting to move quickly past what he had said and just settle things down.

Bake a cake? Wouldn't be too hard, with all the knowledge he had from Centrias. He just... had to be patient. And not burn the manor down. Easier said than done, of course, but...

"-Sure, I'll bake you a cake." With James? Hard maybe. "Can't guarantee the quality but I'll try my best."

The waiting room’s fluorescent lights are harsh and unforgiving. The faces of my mother and father are as unreadable as stone, my mother staring straight ahead, digging her fingernails into her palm. I swing my legs back and forth impatiently—we’ve spent the past weeks in and out of Inova Fairfax, and I’ve been poked and prodded at, had vials of blood drawn by smiling nurses with colorful Band-Aids, had cells taken from my bones and sent to laboratories, and all I want to do is go home.

I know I’m not well. I’ve spent the past few months losing weight even as I fill up my plate with food at dinnertime, and at night, I keep my parents up with my coughing. But I’ve always gotten sick easily—one of my earliest memories is of my mother at my bedside, pressing a cold compress onto my forehead as I burn up with a fever—so I see no reason to be worried. I see no reason for my father’s mouth to be set in a grim line, for my mother to close her eyelids tight and mutter the refuah shlema under her breath.

your writing is good, but i think these two paragraphs take up too much space. you only have 650 words, and you’re using almost a third of them to basically say that you’re in a hospital and are sick with an unknown disease.

“Mr. and Mrs. Lupin?” A nurse emerges from the door leading to the waiting room, holding a clipboard. “May I speak to you?”

dialogue is always tricky in essays. i’m not sure if you should take this out or keep it in—so far, your essay is basically a narrative, so it might work, but at the same time, it always feels awkward to me when a conversation is shoved into the middle of an essay. also, i really doubt that you remember any of this as vividly as you’re describing it.

My parents follow her into the next room over, and I’m left by myself in the waiting room. I flip through an old issue of Highlights, musing over the faded puzzles. These are the last few minutes before my life is irrevocably altered. In twenty minutes, my parents will leave the side room with their faces drawn and pale. In twenty minutes, I’ll learn the meaning of the words “acute lymphocytic leukemia.” In twenty minutes, I’ll be told that I’ll be returning to the hospital often to undergo chemotherapy.

good parallelism here—could you make this more of the focal piece of your narrative? also, i’m unsure if the current third iteration of “in twenty minutes” is the strongest one—can you reword it?

The next few years of my life were spent in and out of hospital beds, having various drugs injected into me. I was pulled out of the local middle school and enrolled in a virtual high school, my father believing that it would afford me more stability in my learning—never mind that I lost most of my friends in the process. While my former friends joined the track team and learned to play the flute, I learned about genetically inherited diseases and cell mutations. There were few constants during those three years.

obviously, this is a negative part in the story, but it might be too negative—you don’t want to come off in a bad light to the admissions officers.

Perhaps the only constants were boredom and anger. Boredom as I found myself with almost no entertainment bar the children’s cartoons playing constantly on the old televisions of the hospital, anger as I found myself overcome with helplessness. I couldn’t do anything to stop the sadness and fear on the faces of my parents. I couldn’t do anything to make my cells stop eating me from the inside out. I couldn’t do anything to make the treatments work. All I could do was wait and hope.

maybe take out the boredom part + emphasize the helplessness. also, maybe don’t use the word anger.

It was my mother, who had always loved words, that finally came up with the solution. “What if you could write those thoughts down?” She gave me a notebook bound with ribbon, and in it, I wrote my first poems—words running into each other as I grasped for a way to describe the changes in my life, for a way to describe the emotions that I could never voice out loud. Predictably, they weren’t very good poems, even for an eleven-year-old—but they were poems. There were verses and stanzas and half-sensical metaphors, and I spent those lonely days and nights in my hospital bed scribbling out my thoughts and dreams and everything that came to me under the moonlight. And I kept writing, even after the treatments finally came to an end. I wrote about my grandmother’s childhood in East Germany; I wrote about my father’s beloved dog named Snuffles, who he cried over when he had to be put down; I wrote about injustice and justice and fear and love. And even now, I keep writing—because I know that the written word is the way to the elusive pursuit of realization.

this probably sounds bad, but this is honestly the only paragraph that i can feel true emotion in. finally, it doesn’t sound like you’re writing something you want the admissions officers to like—this is something you care about. what if you reworked the essay to focus more on this? do half-and-half, maybe—half getting sick, half writing + realizing that you loved to write. currently, it feels rushed (which is also probably because you’re over the word count, but we can fix that later), and i think it’s because the balance is off. thoughts on this and my other notes?

Damian huffs through his nose, and he can't help but chuckle. It was bitter, sardonic, but not exactly cruel. "I know how that is," he replied. "My roots are already dead, though."

He didn't remember much.. But he remembered that. He would always remember that.  

"You're from America, right? Can you tell me a little about your culture? The parts you don't want to forget."

She tilted her head slightly, hazel eye flickering gold for a brief, blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment.

Was she the one decaying?

The question echoed in her mind and for a second it was like the walls were closing in, her mind burning with the energy that had become an extension of herself long ago.

Decay happened when something died, that was just basic science and she should've died a long time ago, she couldn't deny that. It was a miracle she was still alive and breathing, even in a new kind of existence.

"It's impossible to tell these days.." she lowly admitted with a bit of a sigh, habitually spinning her wedding band around her finger. "I've got a foot in two worlds... I don't want to bury my roots.."

Cuando estaba en París y no podía dormir, miraba la luna. Me sentaba en silencio cerca de la ventana y la miraba, ahí, al lado de la Torre Eiffel. Tan blanca, tan brillante. Y me dio por pensar que sin toda esa oscuridad, nunca se vería. A diferencia del sol, que brilla por sí mismo.

Me dio por pensar que quizás eran enemigos naturales. Quizás lo son. Pero sea como sea, ambos se necesitan. Por más que el sol quiera brillar, la oscuridad debe llegar al final del día, y dejarle a la luna su tiempo para poder brillar sin la amenaza del sol.

Y al final de la noche, volvía a venir el sol. Día tras día, noche tras noche, se sucedía esa eterna batalla de ambos. No sé si quizás por ver quién brillaba más.

Pero me dio por pensar entonces que quizás no eran enemigos. Quizás eran amantes. El sol se movía para buscar a la luna, y la luna se movía para buscar al sol. Pero nunca llegaban a alcanzarse. Nunca podían verse, y nunca podrán.

Es una bonita historia de amor. Triste, sí, pero bonita. La de un Sol que busca su Luna y una Luna que busca su Sol.
