Forgive the stupidity, but what is "The Willow Effect"? I'm guessing it's a reference or something? Thanks x

Oh it's not a real thing, it's just something I made up lol.

Basically, if you've ever seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there's a character named Willow who gets a boyfriend in Season 2 or 3 named Oz, who's played by Seth Green.

Not long after Oz leaves the show, Willow falls in love with a woman named Tara and from then on explicitly identifies as a lesbian (an argument can be made that she's actually bi, but most people accept that she's lesbian but either experienced comphet or a change in sexuality (fluidity). Pick whatever explanation you like. This was in like 2001 and the fight to make Willow gay was challenging enough that you can't expect a seamless result).

Now here's the thing: I actually really loved Seth Green's character Oz - he's one of my favorite parts of the show despite only appearing in a couple seasons. And I always loved his relationship with Willow. The two were sweet together, and he helped her grow a bit. But I also love Willow's uncloseted & unashamed lesbian existence in later seasons, and I fucking ADORE her relationship Tara aside from a few blatantly toxic behaviors that Willow had but this isn't the time or place for that.

How do I reconcile loving both lesbian!Willow and the Willow/Oz ship in the same canon? Easy, I just don't worry about it. To quote Amy Santiago from Brooklyn Nine-Nine: "I can love two things."

And this is what I call the Willow effect. My willingness to both fawn over a female character's relationship with a character played by Seth Green while also remaining adamant that this character is, in fact, a lesbian, and to be unbothered by the apparent contradiction.

Anyway, the only reason I made up this damn term in the first place is the sheer irony of this happening twice to Seth Green, the second being in Scooby-Doo with Velma. Do I believe all versions of Velma deserve to be lesbian? Absolutely. Do I find Velma and Patrick in SD2 to be cute together? Also yes. And because I've seen this before in BTVS, I'm comfortable accepting these two facts as simultaneously true.

“Hey, Y/n?” Dream’s voice drifts through the apartment, and you slide one side of your headphones over your ear.

“Yeah?” You’re focused on this final paper for one of your classes and don’t really pay attention to what Dream’s saying until you hear the word ‘couple’. “What?”

The blonde pops his head into your room with a look on his face like he’s waiting for an answer. “Couple costume?” Dream asks again. You shake your head in disbelief.

“What? For what?” Your heart is racing far more quickly than it should be and you start to get worried when you can hear your heartbeat over the music that’s flowing through your headphones.

Dream rolled his eyes, a boyish grin on his lips as he steps into your room. “Halloween? I think we should go together, in matching costumes.”

Your lips part and you nod slightly, still surprised by his words. “Uh, yeah, totally, what costumes are you thinking?” You take your headphones off completely and place them on your desk.

Your roommate plops himself on the edge of your bed and faces you. He shrugs before he answers. “Shaggy and Velma, Ron and Hermione, Pam and Jim, Joe and Laurie, any other ideas?”

His response shocks you, to say the least. They’re all friends-to-lov— “I thought you meant like, I don’t know, Sponge-bob and Patrick, M&Ms, peanut butter and jelly, not like actual couples.”

Dream’s eyes widen in alarm and his cheeks glow a bright red, and then he’s standing up again. “Oh! Sorry, I didn’t know, I—I just assumed that that’s what a couples costume was,” He rubs the back of his neck and you can’t help but glance at his bicep and the way his t-shirt stains around the muscle.

“Dream, it’s fine. We could go as like Hermione and Ron? Then, his bedroom door swings open and you burst out laughing. “You look amazing!” You say between laughs. As Dream was supposed to be Ron, he used orange hairspray to get the classic Weasley look. And boy, did it work.

A grin breaks out across Dream’s face and he laughs along with you. “It’s pretty good, isn’t it?” He giggles, running a hand over his now-orange hair.

His Gryffindor robes swish around and you nod before reaching up to brush a stray strand from his eyes. “Well, come on then, Mr Weasley, let’s get to this party.” You wrap your hand around his elbow and grab your wands from the counter, handing one to Dream.

Dream smirks and acknowledges your teased hair. “It would be my pleasure, Miss Granger.”

Pilot Pitches for Gritty CW Reboots

1. Scooby Don't!

After their parents mysteriously begin going missing, teenagers Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy must team up to solve the conspiracy that plagues the town of Coolsville. Shaggy has a drug problem. Scooby was rescued from a puppy mill. Daphne and Fred finally have sex in the season 2 finale only to find out in the next scene that they might be secret half siblings. X-Files level plot twists on that subject make it unclear if they're actually siblings or if it's just a conspiracy to convince them that they're siblings or if it's a conspiracy to convince them that it's a conspiracy, but like every storyline in Supernatural, the plotline isn't resolved or mentioned again after season 5.

2. Spongebob

One word title because it'll look better in the gritty font. The town of Bikini Bottom was hit hardest by the recession. All higher paying jobs have moved to the city, and Mr Krabz is a mob boss that uses this Krusty Krab as a front to launder money. The Chum Bucket is basically Mrs Lovett's meat pies. Mrs Puff is in an MLM. Pearl is an influencer and there's a plotline about her mother being a rival crime lord. Pearl and Sandy fight over Spongebob's affections. Spongebob is gay, but only during market research. Spongebob dies in front of Squidward and is sent to superhell, then Squidward just says "well that happened" and walks away and plays Amazing Grace on the clarinet. Spongebob is never mentioned again. Rock Bottom is full of meth gangs. There's a whole plotline about the "my leg!" guy. Bubblebuddy returns for revenge. Squilliam and Squidward hate bang before Squilliam betrays them all and Squidward has to kill him. Squidward is addicted to vicodin. That life guard dude is on steroids. Remake of the hall monitor episode where Spongebob is a boot licker and it's about how they profile and target sharks. "He's just standing there menacingly." Patrick is on disability from a back injury and is addicted to opioids. squidward calls mrs puff a karen. spongebob and patrick routinely break into women's houses to steal their underwear...oh wait.

Pretty much all of the characters in The Hunger Games have PTSD and other mental illnesses arising from their time in the Arena, plus at the end of the first book Katniss has impaired hearing and Peeta has a prosthetic leg. Katniss’ mother is also severely mentally ill following the death of her husband. 

All of the demigods in the Percy Jackson series have dyslexia and ADHD, plus Annabeth and Percy have PTSD from their time in Tartarus, Nico di Angelo is severely depressed, and Jason Grace wears glasses. 

Hearthstone from the Magnus Chase series is deaf.

River from Firefly has severe mental trauma and is tbh one of the most interesting characters in the show

April 7: Talk about autism in the media. Do you think that autism is typically portayed well? Badly? Is there anything you'd like to see more of when it comes to autistic representation? Who are your favorite autistic characters? Do you have any headcanons?

I think that autism is typically portrayed badly though it has also been portrayed well. I'd like to see more autistic people of color characters, female autistic characters, and trans and nonbinary autistic characters as well as autistic characters being portrayed as just as real as neurotypical characters and not only to affect the other characters.

My favorite autistic characters are Billy Cranston AKA Blue Ranger from Power Rangers 2017, Carl Gould from Arthur, and Julie from Sesame Street.
