I should have taken a picture but I just got an absolutely amazing lemon poppy seed bun from the bakery in a nearby village and genuinely it is one of the nicest things I’ve ever had. The bread was somewhere between a croissant and brioche. I could try for 50 years and I don’t think I could make anything quite that perfect. I’m half convinced they have a fae baker because it’s just that good. Magic has to be involved. I also picked up a rosemary and sea salt focaccia to go with dinner and a cinnamon bun for my sister in law because she loves this place, but they’re almost always sold out of those when she goes on the weekend.
#oot and aboot#i live in a fairytale#I think I’m making it my (late) resolution to buy more locally#this bakery is beyond stunning and I can make daily sandwich bread myself#there’s two butcher shops I like that are both reasonable#and there’s farmers markets and honest shops for veg#let’s see how we get on

the only good thing america has ever done has been opening my eyes to the overwhelming diversity of the sandwich world
#i remember watching friends for the first time and seeing joey so intense about sandwiches had me like ? ok what’s the big deal#and then he described his sandwiches and it’s like oh ok. i need one right now.#the thing is here the only sandwiches we can buy are veg salad shit o cheese / tuna so it never seemed like there were many options#and we don’t really? make sandwiches? unless it’s for work/school for ease and even then they’re not fun sandwiches usually just bc it’s not#smth we do#m

haven't been able to cook something rlly good or eat my favorite foods in the way that I like them recently and it's doing horrors for my mental health. I would honestly settle for Kraft mac n cheese and dino nuggies rn (I don't like Kraft brand mac n cheese and much prefer homemade but that's ridiculously expensive and dino nuggies are fine I guess but I prefer something crisper like popcorn chicken or McDonald's nuggets)
#i want spaghetti and homemade meat sauce#i want lovingly made enchiladas#i want thick grilled burgers with crisp and bright lettuce#freshly fried wings in buffalo sauce#pulled pork sandwiches#hashbrowns and chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy#freshly baked pineapple upside down cake#cheerios with frozen blueberries#bleu cheese and celery sticks#sharp and sweet coke with wet burritos and mexican rice and refried beans#tortilla chips and guac#hot fries that are almost soggy with grease and generously battered and fried fish#mashed potatoes and slowly braised beef with a thick gravy#cheese and carbs and meat and veg#im so. fucking. hungry.#and every time i look in the pantry or the fridge to cook something i can't come up with anything#we have no spices no pasta no cheese no nothing#cuz apparently even pepper is too fucking expensive#im gonna die#im gonna literally die#anyways would like to mention that this is all being caused by a new insurance that has been slowly draining every cent from this family#also my bones hurt im gonna scream and rip someone's face off and fucking eat it#even tho it sounds gross im just rlly mad

something that on the surface really isn't a problem but is secretly annoying is how I can totally fixate on one meal and make it for like, weeks on end and it'll fit into my life SO WELL and then suddenly boom I'll drop it like a hot potato and won't eat it again. it doesn't happen for all foods but it's happened to a fair handful
#RIP the sesame noodle dish I made for like a year before never making again lol#I still have some of the noodles sitting all lonely in my cupboard...... waiting for the dire day I'm desperate enough to each for them#my new era is: breakfast sandwiches. and they are so good. I hope I don't tire of them#I had to improvise today bc I'm all out of eggs so we did breakfast quesadillas instead to use up my leftover tortillas#+ assorted veg in the fridge

you don’t HAVE to eat a meal of any set size isn’t that so thrilling holy shit.......it can be small if you want.......or big........depending on how you feel today......

the lighting is terrible because i had the kitchen light on for pre-dawn breakfast, but this was very good for a quickie before work. shoulda been two egg on pesto but we only had one egg ! so the other was garden tomato and mayo. i might do the same again tomorrow ! or maybe pesto scrambled eggs…
#tomato and mayo on toast is my favourite meal ever in the whole world but i need more protein to get me through early starts#tomorrow i’m gonna make a pesto and cheese salad sandwich#for work lunch and also probably some hummus and veg to snack on#and i’ll make sure to take a bowl of rice pud and berries for morning tea at work also

I dunno man. I found out today that a subway sandwich is $14 now. A shitty subway footlong sandwich that isn't actually 12 inches long and is occasionally made with expired ingredients and was never a great option to start with. I ate those in high school because I was broke and at the mall a lot.
There are poke bowls in my city from a local place for $16. Super fresh fish and veg, warm rice, more than I can eat in one sitting, for the price of a sandwich and a drink at america's most mid-tier sandwich shop.
Someone in another post said (paraphrased) you used to be able to get something mediocre for cheap, but now the mediocre things cost as much as the nice things so why would you?

fucked up how nice lunchmeat is considering it's carcinogenic. also fucked up that all the money in the world can't buy me non-carcinogenic slices of lunchmeat. when did that even start. what were we doing before. i need thin pieces of meat that will stay good in a fridge for a week. or honestly i wouldn't mind putting frozen slices on my sandwich if it's thin enough. that could be fun. i just need some nice thin meat that won't significantly increase my likelihood of certain cancers.
#it would honestly really improve my nutrition if i could eat a meat cheese veg salad sandwich every day#i've tried tofu and that works okay but tofu is.. fickle#i haven't tried a salad (not 🥗 but y'know. chicken salad egg salad etc) sandwich but i'm trepidatious bc more ingredients = more parosmia#cooking meat for sandwiches is always pretty good but also. work.#idk i just can't figure it out#adam yaps
