haven't been able to cook something rlly good or eat my favorite foods in the way that I like them recently and it's doing horrors for my mental health. I would honestly settle for Kraft mac n cheese and dino nuggies rn (I don't like Kraft brand mac n cheese and much prefer homemade but that's ridiculously expensive and dino nuggies are fine I guess but I prefer something crisper like popcorn chicken or McDonald's nuggets)

a/n: another instalment of the tik tok mat series! featuring liana! this was another suggestion from an anon and i just love writing these three and their dynamic so this was fun - i hope you guys enjoy 😊
word count: 3.2k
tw: nothing but good clean fun
summary: during a visit, you and liana convince mat to join you in another tik tok video, with a twist
“What are you two plotting?” Mat’s sudden appearance in the kitchen startles you and you jump a little. Next to you, Liana yelps and smacks her knee against the cabinet.
“Ow, fuck,” she mutters, reaching down to rub at the spot that’ll definitely be bruised tomorrow. She scowls at Mat, which he ignores.
“Jesus,” you sigh, closing your eyes briefly while your heartbeat gets back to normal. “We’re not plotting.” Your tone is slightly petulant.
Mat comes up behind you and slots himself at your back, arms on either side of you caging your body against the kitchen island. He kisses the back of your neck and play humps your ass.
Liana fake gags, sticking her index finger in her mouth. “You’re disgusting. And what she said. Plotting makes it sound so nefarious, we’re just planning something,” she kicks at Mat’s socked foot with her own and he kicks back.
“Plotting, planning. Same difference when it comes to you two,” Mat retorts, keeping his chest pressed to your back when he leans in to grab a tortilla chip out of the open bag on the counter and swipe it through the bowl of guac in front of you. He chomps noisily on the chip, right in your ear, and you reach back to swat at his stomach. Mat takes a small step back so he’s not as loud in your ear.
“Don’t get guac on me,” you complain a little, trying to wiggle out of Mat’s embrace. All it serves to do is get your ass pressed against his crotch. Mat laughs and wraps an arm around your shoulders, pulling you back against him.
He presses a kiss behind your ear and mutters quietly, “say the word and I’ll kick Li out right now.”
Your laugh is overshowdowed by Liana’s outraged cry of, “I can hear you, dumbass! I’m standing right next to you!”
“In the kitchen that I own,” Mat shoots back, still hugging you.
Before they start bickering even more and derail yours and Liana’s plans, you hold up your hands and shoot a wide-eye, raised eyebrows look at your boyfriend’s sister. “How about we don’t turn a lovely visit into a Barzal brawl?” You say, tone placating.
Liana immediately relaxes, her lips tipping up in a half-smile. Mat’s arm loosens around your shoulders and you lean easily against his chest.
“Yeah, okay,” they both mutter at the same time and you can’t help but laugh at the identical tone and inflection.
Mat’s hips work lazily against your ass and you know it’s a subconscious movement, a tic that he can’t help when he’s pressed close to you. It used to be insanely distracting, but you’re so used to it by now, you barely even notice anymore.
“Why don’t you join us for a Tik Tok?” You ask Mat, leaning your head back against his shoulder to look up at him. “Liana and I have like a whole bunch of videos we want to make while she’s here.”
It’s a partially true statement. You do have a couple of videos that would be fun to make with her while she’s visiting for a long weekend, but conning Mat into a video is the main plan.
“Your videos always do the best when I join,” Mat brags in an overly smug tone. He kisses your forehead and you know he’s teasing. But again, another partially true statement. You had a solid social media following, but once you started dating Mat, your follower count exploded and the videos that he pops up in are the ones that get shared the most. Especially on Twitter and the random fan cams you stumble on while you scroll.
Liana scoffs. “God, the ego on you is ridiculous,” she tosses a grape at Mat’s head. He catches it and pops it into his mouth, grinning.
“I could boost your following too, Li,” he offers. “I know you get a bump when I appear. It’s my natural charm and charisma.”
Both you and Liana burst out laughing, drowning out Mat’s offended protests. He complains that you’re being mean to him and you turn in his arms to press a kiss against the corner of his mouth, tasting salt from the tortilla chip and cilantro from the guac. “Shush,” you tease, “we’re keeping you humble.”
He scowls at you, nose wrinkling, and you press your lips together to smother a smile because he’s adorable when he’s annoyed.
“If you’re mean to me, I’m leaving the video,” he warns finally. You know he doesn’t mean it, Mat loves being part of yours and Liana’s business too much.
“If you two are done playing grab ass,” Liana interrupts, sure enough, Mat’s hands are gripping your ass cheeks like his life depends on it. “Can we get filming before we have to get changed for dinner?”
You slip away from Mat with a giggle and grab your coffee mug off the counter, your phone in your other hand. Mat grabs the Tostitos and the guac and follows you both to the couch. He plops down, spreading his knees wide, in the middle of the couch with his snack resting on his thigh.
“So what did I actually agree to do?” He asks while you and Liana each take a seat on the floor in front of the couch. You prop your phone up against a pair of coffee table books and the plastic case for NHL 24.
Liana starts to explain, “basically, we’re giving you questions and you have to pick which of us it applies to. Like, you know stuff out of a high school yearbook or whatever.”
“It’ll make sense when we start,” you pipe up, opening Tik Tok. You make Mat shift a few inches to the right so all three of you are in the frame and ask, “ready?”
The siblings nod and Mat digs into the chip bag, just as you’re starting to speak. Liana rolls her eyes at him.
“Hey guys,” you lean in towards the camera, “we’ve got a house guest for a long weekend, I think you’re familiar with her?”
Liana waves at the camera, smiling. “Hey! We figured since this is the first time I’ve been in the same country as big bro since the summer, we should mark the occasion with a Tik Tok.”
“I’m here under duress,” Mat snarks, giving the camera a big, cheesy grin. “And the snacks,” he lifts the bowl of guac. “A Squeaks specialty.”
“Perfect segue to the game,” Liana chirps, pulling out her phone and tapping open the Notes app. “We’re going to ask Mat questions and he has to pick which one of us it applies to. So, first we’ll go with who’s the better cook?”
Mat scrunches his face up in thought for a few seconds before wiggling his hand back and forth in the air. “Toss up,” he says. “Depending on what food it is.”
“Nope, not a valid answer,” Liana shakes her head. “Remember who cooks for you all the time at home.”
“I mean, I cook for him all the time down here,” you pipe up, feigning nonchalance.
Mat jabs his index finger at you, “exactly. Plus, no offense, Li, but your recipes are pretty basic. Squeaks likes to experiment.” He waggles his eyebrows and you reach back to pinch his ankle. He yelps and kicks lightly at your thigh with his socked foot. “Rude.”
“Cooperate, Mat!” You sigh.
“Next question,” Liana taps again at her phone, “who’s funnier?”
Mat hovers his hand over your head and you smile. “Squeaks, for sure,” he nods decisively.
Liana rolls her eyes. “Sarcasm isn’t actually being funny, just so you know,” she comments idly.
“If it makes me laugh, then yeah it is,” Mat retorts, crunching into a chip to punctuate his sentence. He pokes at your thigh with his foot again, affectionate this time, and you wrap a hand around his ankle.
You reach out and, out of Mat’s view, tap on Liana’s thigh, subtly widening your eyes at her. She grins back and tips her chin in a slight nod.
“How about, who’s the better dancer?” You ask, leaning over to read off of Liana’s phone.
Mat shifts his hand to hold it over Liana’s head with a laugh. “I love you, baby, but you’ve got all the rhythm of a middle aged dad,” he teases. “Li clears this one.”
You wrinkle your nose and cut your eyes to Liana, murmuring, “I don’t know. Shaking your ass isn’t really dancing, is it?”
“At least I can shake my ass on beat,” Liana shoots back quickly.
On the screen, you can see Mat frown before sticking a guac covered chip into his mouth. His eyes flicker between you and Liana and you can see him thinking before deciding not to say anything. You roll your lips together to avoid laughing. You and Liana are definitely going to have to take it up a notch.
“Best style?” Liana asks and continues before Mat can answer, “oh, obviously me. No question.”
Mat looks down at her, eyebrows drawing together over his nose. “Since when? You’re always in comfy clothes, sweats, that shit.” He gestures down at Liana who’s wearing a cream lounge pants and sweater set that more or less matches your own.
“Maybe when I’m hanging out with you in the house,” Liana hits his other leg. “But my street style is way better, she dresses so Long Island.”
“Long Island fashion is so much better than anything to come out of Canada,” you retort with an eye roll. “Mat clearly made the right choice.”
“And I’m sure that has nothing to do with the fact that he like when you dress all skimpy and slutty,” she shoots you an insincere smile and the couch shifts when Mat sits up straight.
“Hey, whoa, Liana that’s not cool,” Mat snaps, shaking his head. “What’s going on with you?”
You turn your head away from Mat to hide the smile that threatens at your lips. Liana waves a hand at her brother, “oh my god, nothing. It’s true though, you like the way she dresses.”
“Yeah, but she’s not a slut,” Mat’s getting annoyed and it’s sweet, how quick he is to defend you.
“Oh, it’s fine,” you draw attention back to you. “Let’s do another. Who’s smarter?”
Mat squints at you and leans back into the couch, crunching the bag of chips behind his back. “Oh shit,” he mutters, yanking it out and getting crumbs everywhere. You exhale a laugh through your nose - vacuuming before going out for dinner isn’t entirely unusual with Mat’s eating on the couch habits.
“Um, both of you?” He replies to the question. “Like Li is street smart, but you’re book smart. Y’know?”
“Oh my god,” Liana shakes her head. “Are you calling me stupid? You think she’s smarter than me?” She jabs her thumb at you and you frown at Mat.
“Seriously? Like you think I’m not street smart? You could drop me anywhere and I’d find my way home,” you protest, pretending to get heated.
“Please, she’s not even book smart either,” Liana says. “You know she thinks blood is just floating around in the body!”
You burst out a little laugh. That one is actually true, you’d had a “blonde moment” and said something to Liana to the effect of it being weird that blood and organs are just floating around inside your body. She’d stared at you for a solid five minutes with her mouth open at your stupidity, while you immediately realized your mistake and tried to backtrack that you knew veins and arteries exist.
Mat raises his eyebrows at you and his mouth drops a little. “Wait, seriously?” He asks. “You really think that?”
“No!” You yelp, waving your hands in the air. “Like for a second, but I’m not that dumb.”
Liana scoffs under her breath and you cut your gaze at her to see her hand come up and cover her mouth, hiding a wide smile.
“Maybe I should take it back,” Mat laughs, poking at your side with his foot. “Yeah, I’m changing my answer, Liana’s smarter.”
“Rude,” you laugh, unable to actually be offended by Mat’s switch-up. If he had said something as stupid, you would’ve made fun of him until the end of time.
Liana asks the next question - “Who’s more popular on Tik Tok?” - and Mat waffles until he eventually decides that the answer is “whoever features me the most.”
“Well, there’s a reason you’re never on mine,” Liana comments idly. “I don’t need the exposure.”
Mat squints at her, leaning forward so he’s almost bent in half. “Literally what is going on with you?” He flicks the back of her head and she swats at him. “You’re being so weird.”
“I’m not being weird, you’re being weird,” Liana shoots back.
“I never heard you talk to her like that,” Mat grumbles, jerking his thumb in your direction. “What bug crawled up your ass?”
“No bug,” Liana shrugs. “Just calling them like I see them.”
You lean against the couch and watch Mat’s face twist into a skeptical frown. He kicks the side of Liana’s thigh and says firmly, “be nicer. Whatever’s happening here needs to cool off.”
He’s being fairly calm, so maybe the trick won’t actually work. You tap on Mat’s calf, momentarily distracted by the thick cords of muscle, and say, “one more, and then I think we need to start getting ready.”
Mat reaches down and scratches the tips of his fingers against your scalp, making you lean into his touch like a cat, a slow smile taking over your face. With your cheek pressed against his knee, you look over at Liana, who’s rolling her eyes even as she has a faint smile on her face at your antics.
“Okay,” she grins, “if we were all in a sinking ship and you could only save yourself and one of us, who would it be?”
Without hesitating, Mat immediately says, “Squeaks.” There’s a healthy amount of “duh” in his tone and you can’t help but smile, warmed down to your core at Mat’s quick response.
Until Liana does her job and riles him up.
“Seriously?” She scoffs a laugh. “No hesitation, you’d pick some girl you haven’t even known a year over your own sister? Wow.”
You bite at your lower lip to hide a smile and Mat shoots forward again, jostling you.
“Liana, jesus fuck. What is wrong with you?” He snaps. “You’re being a fucking bitch. You know she’s not ‘some girl’ and you need to apologize. Now.”
He’s scowling at her, legs tensed. You don’t usually see Mat angry off the ice, but now he’s angry on your behalf and you’d be lying if you said it wasn’t hot. Absolutely worth the prank to get him worked up like this.
Liana giggles and shakes her head. “Oooh, you should see your face,” she giggles again.
“I’m dead serious, Liana,” Mat shakes his head. “You’re not fucking funny and I’m not going to sit her and let you be rude.”
You start giggling now and reach out for Mat’s hand. “Hey, babe, Mat. Seriously, it’s okay,” you say and Mat squints at you, frowning.
“No, it’s not fucking okay. I thought you two got along. I thought you were friends and now Liana’s over here being rude as hell,” he shakes his head. “I’m not going to let you stay here and be nasty, Li.”
Liana catches your eye and the laughter is contagious. Soon enough, the two of you are cracking up, gasping for air. Mat’s confused, you can tell, because he’s spluttering and shaking both of your shoulders with his hands.
“What the actual fuck is going on?” He mutters, reaching down and dragging you up onto his lap. You laugh and protest, wiggling to sit on the couch with your legs draped over his thighs.
“It’s a Tik Tok trend,” you explain, waving at your phone with one hand and wrapping the other around the back of Mat’s neck. Liana leans forward and stops the video on your phone. It was getting too long anyway and no one needs to see you explain the whole thing to Mat.
Liana pipes up, “I can’t believe you’d really think I hate her. I like her more than I like you.”
Mat’s eyebrows scrunch together and you can see the wheels turning in his brain. It clicks all of a sudden and Mat’s mouth falls open, outraged shock written all over his features. “I knew it!” He yelps, grabbing a throw pillow and whacking Liana on the shoulder. She falls over, laughter gasping out of her. Mat smacks her with the pillow again and Liana kicks out at him, glancing the coffee table and yelping in pain.
“I knew you two were plotting!” He laughs, wrapping an arm around your waist to keep you pinned to his side. Your stomach hurts from laughing and trying to wriggle away. “Fucking menaces, I’m not saving either one of you. You can both drown.”
“No!” Your laugh mixes with Liana’s and Mat’s, the three of you landing in a pile on the floor as Mat continues to whack at both of you with the pillow. Liana kicks at Mat’s shin, fighting him when he rubs his knuckles on the top of her head in a noogie.
“Stop, stop, mercy!” Liana gasps, wheezing. Mat rolls his eyes, but stops, breathing hard when he sits up, keeping you locked securely on his lap. You press your forehead against his shoulder, panting. Mat’s hands are warm on your back and then they slide down, his palm smacking against your ass in a spank.
You yelp and jump in his arms, nearly cracking the side of his jaw with your head. “What was that for?” You grumble, reaching back to rub at the sore spot.
Mat grins wickedly at you. “For being a brat,” he replies simply. He points at Liana, sprawled like a starfish on the floor, and says, “you’re on coffee duty for the rest of your time here. And I want the fancy shit from For Five, not the homemade stuff.”
Liana whines. “No way, this was a clean prank,” she counters, kicking at Mat’s side and missing. “You agreed to be in the video.”
“Last time I do that,” Mat mutters, but he’s laughing under his breath and he presses a kiss to your forehead, so you know he doesn’t mean it. “You two are so fucking annoying.”
“But who would you say is more annoying?” You can’t help but ask, a cheeky smile on your face.
Mat groans and Liana lifts her hand for you to slap. You lean over in Mat’s lap to smack her hand and nearly fall over in the process. Mat’s fingers wrap around your thigh and keep you in place.
“No more Tik Tok,” he vows when you’re settled again, perched happily on his lap, your thighs bracketing his hips.
Liana pipes up from the floor before you have a chance, “okay, and not that i’m supporting you two being disgusting, so please wait until I go home, but what about that trend where the wife’s cooking naked when her husband gets home?”
You bite your tongue to hide a giggle and Mat’s head cocks, thinking. His fingers flex against your thighs. You loop your arms around his neck and trace your fingertips over the back of his neck. His forehead relaxes and you can feel his cock twitch with interest under your ass.
Eventually, he says, “okay, I’ll allow my participation in one more video.”
“That’s what I thought,” Liana mumbles. “Freaks.”

Thinking about how Mabel said "Dude, you tried to kill my brother. Next time I see you I'm gonna eat you like a tortilla chip and dip you in guac! Nothing but love and light though!"
Thinking about how Dipper said "Dude, you tried to kill my sister. Next time I see you I will do whatever it takes to put you in the ground."
Their protectiveness and love for each other is just so. The fact that they both said the same thing about each other is just so. Like not even the fact that Bill tried to take over and destroy reality, but the fact that Bill tried to harm the other sibling. Crying. Alex Hirch I am in your walls (affectionately)

Oh. It was Bill. The donked up dude who had messed with Dipper and used him like a puppet.
Mabel remained resolute that there had to be some good inside the demonic triangle. For all his machinations and evil laughter-- she was convinced underneath it all was a hurting heart. Hurt people hurt people, and all that.
Tumblr media
"I dunno-- sleep? Grunkle Stan keeps tellin me I have to sleep and that I can't pull all nighters." She remained casual-- open minded. She's give the dream demon the benefit of the doubt-- try to show him some kindness to see if that would break away the layers of lies he'd built around himself [or so she believed].
No one could be this evil.
"What about you Bill? Still tryin' to find a body to live in?"

All I Want For Christmas Is You (BuckTommy) - 9/9
Summary: When Buck and Tommy pick each other for the 118's Secret Santa, they both realize they know nothing about each other. That changes very quickly. Words: 3.8k Rating: M Read on Ao3 Chapter One Chapter Two Chapter Three Chapter Four Chapter Five Chapter Six Chapter Seven Chapter Eight
-
Chapter Nine
“Is that your Secret Santa gift?” Evan asked, pointing at the bag next to the tree.
“Hmm, yeah.”
Evan got a mischievous grin on and went to grab it. Tommy slapped his hands away. Evan turned to him at once, mouth open in put upon shock.
“No peeking, Evan.”
Evan narrowed his eyes on him. “Why? It’s not like you got me. Or, wait, did you?”
Tommy grabbed Evan by the shoulders and turned him around. “You’ll find out who everyone got in two days. Whole point of Secret Santa.”
“Hen’s not even here,” Evan said and though Tommy couldn’t see him, he knew he was pouting.
“You know that somehow she’ll find out if I let you know who I got and what I got them.”
Tommy glanced back at the bag. He was going to have to rewrap that, wasn’t he? Otherwise Evan would figure it out early. There was also the fact that Tommy didn’t think it was complete quite yet. He did have an idea on what might complete it. That would be something to take care of when he got back from breakfast.
“Come on,” Tommy said, “I thought you were hungry.”
“Starving,” Evan said. “I guess the chips and guac from last night were not enough.”
“Definitely not,” Tommy said. “The ice cream helped.”
They had both been too caught up in each other to think about dinner the night before and then had found that Tommy had literally nothing in his kitchen to make a meal out of. Not even eggs. So, they had settled for the giant bag of lime sea salt tortilla chips Evan found in a cabinet and the guacamole Tommy had remembered he’d bought the last time he was in a store, instead of going out to get food or ordering take out. They’d eaten that while watching Christmas movies in the living room until Tommy pulled out the ice cream. After that they both decided to head back to Tommy’s bed. It was no wonder they both woke up at the crack of dawn starving.
Waking with Evan wrapped around him had been everything in spite of also waking to Evan’s stomach literally growling with hunger.
They wound up at a diner that Tommy had never been to. It seemed like it had kept all the aesthetics of a 50s diner including an actual jukebox that when they sat down was playing Frank Sinatra’s version of Jingle Bells.
The menus were laminated and Tommy didn’t have to even glance at it before ordering pancakes.
“Should have known that’d be your go to,” Evan said and then went with scrambled eggs with sausage and toast.
“You can’t go wrong with pancakes,” Tommy said.
“I guess. So…what, uh, what happens now?”
Tommy had been expecting the question. They’d been in a bit of a bubble, a sex bubble. The best type of bubble. What little they had talked about had put them there and it was actually probably smart of them to talk things out in public so neither of them could find a way to distract the other.
“Would you consider this a second date?” Tommy asked.
Evan smiled at him, reached for his hand across the table. “I could be on board with that.”
“Good.” He gave Evan’s hand a squeeze. “I won’t freak out this time. I want this to work, Evan.”
“Me too. But what about work?”
“I don’t know,” Tommy admitted. “It’s not like I ever planned on dating anyone I worked with. And look, we don’t have to say anything to anyone. You’re not out. You’re still discovering yourself. I don’t expect you to be ready to just tell everyone.”
Hen probably suspected, but she wouldn’t say anything. Tommy could even pull her aside and talk to her about it, but he didn’t even think that was necessary.
“We can be professional,” Tommy said. “Definitely no repeats of what happened in the bathroom during the toy drive.”
Evan looked like he was going to protest that. Tommy was going to have to hold strong against how much of a tease Evan could be. It’d be difficult, but he’d do it.
“I’m serious,” Tommy said.
“So we’re keeping this a secret,” Evan said and his voice had gone a little strained.
“Uh, we don’t have to. I just figured you probably aren’t ready to tell everyone that you’re not as straight as we all thought.”
Their food arrived and Evan thanked the waitress.
“I don’t know if I want to lie to everyone,” Evan said. “I don’t know if I can.”
Tommy let out a sigh. Evan was an open book especially around everyone at work. It was one of the reasons that he got along so well with everyone. Who could hate someone like Evan? Tommy had certainly tried to dislike him and failed.
“Look, my experience isn’t yours. I was ashamed and I had some not supportive people around. It’s different for you, but that doesn’t make it less scary. It’s new for you and I can go at whatever pace you set. You can show up and tell them next shift. Or it can happen next week or next month. I’m here either way. It’s up to you, Evan.”
Evan took a moment and then he let out a sigh. “Can I think about it?”
“Of course.”
Tommy thought that he might also have to get a good look at what the policy was on dating a coworker so they could be prepared to deal with it.
“Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask,” Evan said, then, apropos of nothing, “what’s up with all the flight manuals?”
Tommy hadn’t known that Evan looked at his bookshelf all that closely.
“You saw those?”
“Uh, yeah.”
“I was a pilot while I was in the Army,” Tommy said.
He didn’t know what he was expecting from Evan, but the way that his jaw dropped was not it.
“How did I not know this already? That’s — I mean that’s so cool that you know how to fly. Helicopters? Planes?”
“Both,” Tommy said. “I, uh, I don’t advertise it.”
Evan looked even more shocked at that. “Why? If I could fly I’d tell everyone I ever met. I’d start off with that. Why aren’t you flying for airsupport?”
Tommy chuckled. “I fly in my free time. And that was my plan originally. It takes more than just having the license. There’s a lot of requirements and it’s competitive even when there is a free spot open.”
“Oh,” Evan said.
Tommy smiled at him. “One day, Evan. But, I could take you up sometime. If you want.”
“If I want? Yes, Tommy, I want. You don’t know how much hotter you just became to me. My pilot boyfriend.”
Tommy rolled his eyes even though hearing Evan call him his boyfriend was doing something to him, enough so that when the bill came he was just a few seconds too late to Evan grabbing it and sticking his card into the holder.
After breakfast, Tommy drove back to the 118 so Evan could get his car. Evan seemed reluctant to leave Tommy’s truck, and Tommy couldn’t even blame him because he didn’t want to leave Evan either. Wasn’t it odd, to not get tired of another person?
They lingered in the car together, both of them excusing that Evan was still telling Tommy about his sister even though it was the second or third topic they had begun right there in the car.
“I haven’t seen her in years,” Evan was saying. “I guess I miss her the most at the holidays.”
Tommy grabbed his hand and Evan smiled at him. Tommy didn’t fully understand the story behind Evan’s sister, but he knew she was important to him and that there was a lot of hurt there too. He had also gathered that it probably wasn’t her choice that they weren’t in contact. He hoped she was alright for her sake and Evan’s both.
When Evan finally let out a sigh, Tommy knew it was time.
“I guess I’ll see you next shift?”
“Yes.”
Evan nodded and then he leaned over and kissed Tommy, pulling back long enough to just look at him before he kissed him again. Tommy wanted nothing more than to keep kissing him.
“Go,” Tommy said after the third kiss. “Or you never will.”
“Bye, Tommy,” Evan said and once he was out of the car he waved at Tommy before going to his own.
Tommy waited until Evan had started his car and pulled out before he did, heading back home where it was far too quiet.

Walking into the station on Christmas Eve, Buck found Hen at the Christmas tree arranging the presents that the others had already brought in. Despite having seen Tommy’s truck parked outside he didn’t see the bag he’d seen at his house which made Buck just a tad suspicious. Buck was curious about what kind of gift giver Tommy was, but he’d find out later when they opened presents.
“Wrapped and everything,” Buck announced to Hen. “Where do you want it?”
“Give it here,” she said. “Who helped you wrap these?”
“Hey, I have skills,” Buck said. “And Youtube.”
And also Connor, but Hen didn’t need to know that one of Buck’s roommates was very good at wrapping and had done all the fancy folds on Tommy’s new pencils. He’d done it all right before leaving to catch a flight to get home for Christmas. In fact, Buck had never seen the house so quiet over the last day with everyone going home to see their parents. Considering how much Buck was enjoying having the place to himself, it was making Buck think that it really was time he start looking for a place of his own. That might have to be his goal in the new year.
Hen bumped his shoulder once she was done arranging everything. “So then you wouldn’t mind if I got you to wrap Denny’s birthday presents in a few months.”
“I think Karen probably knows what she’s doing,” Buck said. “I should go get changed.”
“Admit it, Buckley, you didn’t wrap any of them,” Hen said.
Buck shrugged his shoulders as he turned and walked away.
When he spotted Tommy in the locker room the urge to walk up to him and kiss him was strong. He had to tamp it down and just nod at him. Tommy smiled through his own nod and then gave his shoulder a squeeze when he walked out. They hadn’t seen each other since Tommy dropped Buck off to pick up his car, but they had texted a little, and Tommy had reiterated that they would need to be professional at work.
Buck was going to break and give them away, he was sure of it and a part of him didn’t care. A different part was a little worried about how things might change and not in regards to Tommy, but just in how everyone saw Buck and how they treated him. It was a little irrational.
Logically he knew nothing would change. Hen already knew. Tommy knew, obviously. Chim would probably pretend that he’d seen it coming. Bobby would probably have more to say about Buck and Tommy being together than anything else and only where it interfered with their work. Despite his own past regarding inappropriate use of department equipment, Buck did think he could be professional about it.
Still, Buck wanted to wait, but not for very long, just until he and Tommy were a bit more steady in the relationship they were forming. It was so new and throwing in the opinions of everyone they worked with would probably be a horrible idea.
The day didn’t drag, but it was also full of mundane calls. A small fender bender, a little old lady that fell down and broke her hip. A woman going into labor at a park. A lost child that wasn’t actually lost. A Christmas tree fire. Then, another one. What Buck liked was having Tommy near him, how they worked together side by side and sat in the truck together on the way to and from calls.
It was so wildly different from the week when Tommy had been avoiding him and Buck loved it. He might not be able to be openly affectionate because they were at work, but they could share glances and casual touch and it meant everything.
They had a nice dinner. Bobby had gone a little more fancy because it was Christmas Eve. Hen had helped by taking care of the salad, and Buck had been in charge of the mashed potatoes while Bobby took care of the roast. By some stroke of luck they managed to actually sit down and eat it without interruptions.
“This is probably the best Christmas I’ve had in a while,” Buck said halfway through.
It felt like an actual family Christmas, the type that didn’t really happen for Buck, not even when he’d lived with his parents especially after Maddie left. Christmas had meant being out of school and his parents, as teachers, being home too. Buck had tried to stay out of the house as much as possible.
Across from him Tommy made a face. “I don’t know if that’s sad or not.”
“Both,” Hen said. “I mean, Bobby’s cooking can make any Christmas good.”
“You got that right,” Chim said.
“I’m just glad you’re all appreciating our Christmas dinner even if we all have to be at work today.”
“Well, I don’t think Buck is wrong,” Tommy said. “This has been a good Christmas. One of the better ones for sure.”
Buck tried to avert his gaze from Tommy’s, but when he did look up he found Tommy’s eyes and he couldn’t help but smile. He ducked his head again before anyone could notice. He felt Tommy’s foot tap his under the table. Buck wished that he could ask Tommy to join him in the bathroom or in another secluded spot in the fire station so he could steal a kiss if nothing else.
He was almost glad when the next call came right as they were starting to clear up after dinner especially when he wound up sitting next to Tommy and he could touch him even if minimally.
-
Tommy had always been good at falling asleep almost anywhere, he was also easy to wake, so he heard when Evan got out of his bed and then felt it when Evan lifted his blanket and climbed into his.
“Ev—”
Evan was sleep warm and soft. He kissed his name off of Tommy’s lips and Tommy could do nothing but respond to it, kissing back because it was Evan and he would never deny Evan.
“Missed that,” Evan said against his lips.
They kissed again and then Evan dropped his head to Tommy’s shoulder, letting out a content sigh.
“You need to go back to your own bed,” Tommy whispered.
Evan nuzzled into him. “I know. Five minutes.”
Tommy knew more than five minutes passed, but he didn’t urge Evan to go. Instead he held him and ran his fingers through Evan’s hair. Kissed the top of it. Tommy tried not to drift off, but Evan was a happy weight atop him and he smelled good and it wasn’t difficult to be a little selfish and want to keep him there. Eventually, he did just drift off, arms pulling Evan closer to him.
The next thing Tommy knew was Chim’s voice.
“Holy shit. Guys, guys, come here.”
Hen’s incredulous laughter followed.
“What’s happening?” Bobby asked, followed by an, “oh.”
He blinked awake, felt the weight on him, the way that his legs were tangled with someone’s. Evan’s. Evan made a snuffling sound and he had definitely drooled on Tommy’s sleep shirt. Tommy froze when he looked at Hen, Chim, and Bobby who were all peering at them with big smiles.
“Oh,” he said.
“Tommy,” Evan said, voice rough from sleep. “I think we fell asleep. What time—” he froze and Tommy knew he’d opened his eyes and spotted their audience.
Evan made no move to get out of Tommy’s bed and Tommy didn’t really know what to say or do. He was grateful when Hen coughed.
“We’re going to go,” Hen said.
“Yeah, but what—”
Hen tugged Chim away.
“I think we’ll have to have a conversation later,” Bobby said, but he didn’t look upset or concerned, just mostly amused.
“Yes,” Tommy said. “We will.”
Bobby left and Tommy let out a breath. He had no idea how Evan was handling it and he hoped it wouldn’t put them two steps back on where they’d been just a few hours ago when Evan had decided to get into his bed with him. He hardly expected Evan to start laughing. He was giggling, shaking against Tommy because he couldn’t contain it.
“Evan,” Tommy said, carefully.
Evan took a few breaths and he sat up, facing Tommy. “I didn’t think I’d be able to keep it secret for very long, it’s just as well they found out now. Is that…is that alright?”
“You’re alright with it?”
“I am,” Evan said. “I mean it’s too late now, but it saves having to tell them. I don’t mind. Come on, they’re probably gossiping about us.”
“Bobby doesn’t gossip,” Tommy said.
Evan fixed him with a look. “He walks a careful line, but he gossips.”
-
Buck was glad in the end to have everything out in the open. It meant that when they did the Secret Santa presents at the end of their shift, he could sit next to Tommy closer than would be appropriate and hold his hand. Breakfast had been a little awkward admittedly, but it seemed like Hen had explained some of what she knew. Chim had given them both pats on the back and Bobby had given them smiles and a reminder that they’d need to have a bigger conversation on their next shift.
Buck expected there to be more questions and he was sure eventually there would be, but for the time they were just letting Buck and Tommy be.
“I’ll begin,” Hen said and dug around for the present she’d brought in. “I got you, Cap.”
She handed him a box wrapped in red wrapping paper.
“Thank you, Hen,” Bobby said. “Uh, do I open it? Or are we waiting until everyone has theirs?”
“You can open it,” Hen said.
“I wonder how this goes down with Denny,” Buck whispered to Tommy.
Tommy shrugged his shoulders. “I imagine not like this.”
Bobby’s gift turned out to be a very nice fire engine red dutch oven. Bobby seemed pleased with it and he smiled at Hen appreciatively before he went to fetch his own gift. Bobby had gotten Chim and he handed him a gift bag. Out of it came a very nice looking sweater and along with it a wallet.
“Yours has been looking a bit worn out,” Bobby explained.
“I’ll transfer everything over right away. Thanks, Bobby.”
Chim’s present was for Hen. Hen took the bag with care and reached inside. First there was a stuffed hen that made Hen roll her eyes, but following that was a skincare set that had Hen raise her eyebrows.
“Have you been talking to Karen?”
“Nope,” Chim said.
“I guess that means you’re up, Tommy,” Hen said.
Buck let go of his hand and Tommy grabbed a bigger bag than the one Buck had seen the day before. “I was originally going to tell you not to open all of it, but since everyone knows now I guess it doesn’t really matter.”
They had gotten each other. Buck hadn’t expected that. He grinned at Tommy and their fingers brushed when Tommy passed him the bag. Everything inside was wrapped except for one thing that had a bit of tissue paper covering it. It was a frame and when Buck withdrew it, he gasped.
The drawing was of him. He had his firefighter helmet on and he was looking off to the side. It was amazing.
“Wow,” he said.
“Yeah,” Chim said, looking over Buck’s shoulder. “Who drew that?”
“Tommy did,” Buck said. “This is amazing.”
“I don’t think it does you justice.”
Buck felt his cheeks go warm.
“There’s more,” Tommy said.
The next thing was wrapped in silver and green wrapping paper. When he tore it off he found a cardboard box. Inside was a carved wooden dog with a firefighter helmet. Buck didn’t remember seeing that piece, but he did remember the wood carver they’d seen at the Christmas Market.
“That’s really nice too,” Hen said. “Did you make that too, Tommy?”
“Oh. No. Definitely not.”
The next thing was a mug that really did declare to the world that Buck was bisexual. He loved it and planned on drinking from it as often as possible. And last there were two books that Buck would definitely be picking up and flipping through later.
“Thank you,” he said to Tommy. “I loved every part of it. And now, it’s your turn to open yours.”
Tommy smiled. “Bring it on.”
Buck watched him unwrap each of the presents. The box of chocolates got a grin from him and he seemed to appreciate the sketch books, but the colored pencils got a bigger reaction.
“I’ve been looking at these for a while,” he admitted. “Didn’t know if I should get them. Thank you. How’d you—”
“Good guess,” Buck said. “But you like them?”
“Yes. Definitely. Thank you, Evan.”
Buck leaned over to him and as low as he could say it, muttered, “this isn’t the only thing you’re getting for Christmas.”
“Evan,” Tommy said, warning in his tone.
“I don’t know if I like this,” Chim said pointing at them. “You’re too buddy buddy now. It’s not normal.”
“That sounds homophobic,” Buck said at once and turned to Tommy. “Does that sound homophobic to you, Tommy?”
Chim looked from Tommy to Buck and then to Hen. “I’m feeling a little outnumbered here.”
“Don’t worry, Chim,” Tommy said, “you’ve always got Bobby on your team.”
-
Tommy couldn’t have guessed that Evan had had him for the Secret Santa. He wondered if Hen knew what she had done for them and how without it, he wouldn’t be walking out of the firestation with Evan, arms brushing against each other but too full with their duffles and Christmas presents to manage to also hold hands.
After putting his things in his truck, Tommy turned to Evan.
“Did you really like what I got you?” Evan asked. “I mean, buying an artist colored pencils and sketchbooks is kind of a copout.”
“I got everything I wanted, Evan,” Tommy said and he grabbed Evan’s hands, drawing him in. “I got you, didn’t I?”
Evan groaned. “That was cheesy, Tommy. So cheesy.”
“But true,” Tommy said and he leaned in and kissed Evan.
Evan melted into him, clutched at Tommy and kissed him back.

Low energy/low prep snack and meal ideas
I've been thinking a lot the last few days about how difficult it can be to find the energy to make food when you're having high symptoms or low energy so I thought I'd make and share a list of snack and meal ideas that require minimal preparations.
You can make one serving of these things when you're hungry or most of them are also great to prepare in advance on a day when you're feeling really good or when you can have a friend, family member, or caregiver help you out. Snacks
dried fruits
precut veggies and dip
trail mix
popcorn
apples with cinnamon
cheese and crackers
pretzels and peanut butter
crackers and hummus
yogurt and berries (greek yogurt has lots of protein)
pickles
peanut butter on toast
guacamole and tortilla chips (guac can be homemade or store bought)
Meals
Cheese quesadilla (this obviously is not authentic lol)
boiled eggs
ramen (neither is this. I’m talking mr noodles. Not the real thing)
avocado toast
canned soup
rice (can be mixed with eggs or veggies or whatever else)
I hope these were helpful and as always leave any other suggestions in the comments
Love u all <3

what kind of snacks do you think aaron eats? like it’s probably different at the office / in the field / at home / working out don’t you think?
omg i completely agree!!!!!! <3 tw food
in the office, more often than not, it's whatever the bullpen's kitchenette has to offer - granola bars, assorted fruits, things like that. but since they're on the bland side, he mainly relies on snacks he brings from home, or he does have a box of microwave popcorn stored in one of his office cupboards. i also like to think - eventually he does have a drawer solely for snacks, for jack and any other kiddos when they visit 🥹
speaking of, at home: more homemade, healthy snacks. he's big on celery and peanut butter - getting a vegetable in, as well as the nutrients peanut butter provides. aaron's totallyyyyyy guilty of picking through jack's snacks too - goldfish crackers, fruit roll ups, fruit snacks. he's not a fan of chips - either too salty or greasy. but they are in the house because jack likes them/they'll go in his lunch every so often. however, aaron loves tortilla chips and guac/salsa 🫶🏻 big fan of hummus and pita too!!!
in the field, uncrustables. they're easy, he stores them in his briefcase, and it's something that can act as either a quick snack or a small lunch. it's good on the go too - for example, if he needs to go interview a witness or to a crime scene, he'll eat one en route in the car. he doesn't mind the strawberry jelly ones, but prefers grape
as for working out - smoothies (pb and banana, strawberry and banana), greek yogurt with granola, protein shakes, lots of water. he'll drink chocolate milk occasionally too 🫶🏻
and before you - aaron considered coffee a snack 😭 but you were quick to veto that - you were like yeah absolutely not you need something on your stomach and coffee does not cut it 😭

National Guacamole Day
Learn to make guacamole at home, and discover some of the many versatile uses for this tasty invention, from a simple dip to a sandwich spread and more.
Whether that bright green, creamy and chunky treat is piled on top of a tortilla chip or used as a garnish for a Mexican entree, guacamole is a delicious way to truly enhance a snack or a meal!
History of National Guacamole Day
While the day itself doesn’t exactly seem to have any particularly poetic origin, National Guacamole Day is a terrific excuse to indulge in the tastiest of dips!
However, guacamole itself seems to have its origins with the Aztec people group at some time before the 16th century. Early guacamole recipes only included mashed avocado and it became very popular due to the excellent health benefits of the avocado. Adding in the tomatoes and onions came later, which was a natural development since those are also native to the Americas. Eventually the lime juice was added, which originated in the Middle East but made its way west with the arrival of Christopher Columbus.
The word, guacamole, originally came from the word “āhuacamolli” which translates literally to mean “avocado sauce”.
Not only is it a great addition to a savoury spread, it’s also good for you! This is because “guac” is made from avocados, which are nutrient dense and packed with healthy fats that help the body lower bad cholesterol, all of which contributes to having a good ol’ time and living as long as possible.
How to Celebrate National Guacamole Day
Celebrating this day is easy and can be filled with fun as well as delicious flavors! Enjoy the day with some of these ideas:
Eat Guacamole
Even if there’s no particular reason, other than it being an awesome day, go ahead and celebrate National Guacamole Day by picking up some at the store! Don’t forget to grab something to put it on, such as a bag of tortilla chips, a selection of veggie sticks (carrots, celery or cucumbers), or a piece of tasty toast. Eat it with french fries, slather it on a quesadilla or use it as a filling or garnish for tacos. The options for eating guacamole are virtually endless!
Learn to Make Guacamole at Home
Freshly made guacamole is the most delicious part of this day! All it takes is buying some ripe avocados and making it from scratch at home. Blend the avocado, season with salt and it’s done!
Of course it might be even tastier to add a bit of flavor to it, such as lemon or lime juice for some zesty citrus notes. Or perhaps some tomato, garlic and onion to expand the palette, the choice is completely personal.
Find Creative Ways to Eat Guacamole
Many people associate guacamole only with corn tortilla chips. But there’s so much more to it than that! For those who are trying to get a bit healthier and forego the chips, or for those who are just looking for a bit of adventure, guacamole has a lot of creative ways it can be used for snacks and meals. In addition to using it as a dip, try out these ideas for guacamole:
Spread It On a Sandwich. Guacamole makes a great sandwich condiment. Simply pile it on top of a hamburger or chicken burger for a tasty treat. Guac is also tasty when used as a healthy addition to a grilled cheese sandwich.
Top a Pizza With It. That’s right! A boring pizza can be made delicious with guacamole. Some people like to combine it with Buffalo sauce and chicken as well.
Stuff Mushrooms with It. Keep it vegetarian by filling hollowed out mushrooms with guacamole and topping with a spicy Buffalo sauce. Yum!
Make It Into a Salad. Guacamole can make a healthy and delicious base for a salad. Create a Greek fusion by adding feta cheese, or turn it a bit sweet by piling it up with chunks of watermelon or peaches.
Have a National Guacamole Day Party
Invite friends and family over for a little get together with the intention of celebrating National Guacamole Day. Give a nod to guacamole’s origins by decorating and dressing up in costumes that channel Central American culture.
Of course, the table of refreshments will need to center around the guest of honor–guacamole! But it can be filled with all sorts of other south of the border treats as well. Try offering some tostadas, chips & salsa, taquitos or quesadillas. Toss in some churros or flan for a delicious dessert.
Learn Fun Facts About Avocados
Since they are the main ingredient for guacamole, a fun activity for the day would be to learn a bit of trivia to share with friends or coworkers as National Guacamole Day is celebrated. Try these fun facts to share:
Avocados are a fruit. That’s right, technically guacamole is actually a smashed fruit salad!
Hass Avocados were banned in the US. In an effort to control pest problems, the beloved Hass Avocado was once banned in the United States. From 1914 to 1997, it was illegal to import these delicious fruits. Everyone is much happier now that they are legal again.
The World Record for Guacamole was over 3 tons. Created by a wholesaler in Jalisco, Mexico, this batch of guac took more than 800 people to make it. It contained more than 25,000 avocados, 3,500 tomatoes and 3,000 lemons.
Remember–it’s not necessary to only indulge in this tasty treat on National Guacamole Day. After all, it’s good for you all year round, this is just an extra special reason to enjoy it!
