Visions of Heat review:

Picking up your partner’s erotic thoughts, and only those, is both funny and kinda hot. I’d forgotten Vaughn was an artist/sculpter, and his lair is pretty awesome, although I don’t know how comfortable I’d be coming home everyday and having to navigate a literal minefield correctly to get inside. Vaughn’s sob story is, for me, the most heartbreaking in a series full of terribly sad stories. I do like a romance that has to go slow, involve seduction, and I like how he both respects and *expects* her strength, but much as I like them both individually this isn’t the hottest couple. Also, two showers together and no hanky panky there either time? Lack of imagination, Vaughn!

Sorry to those of you who are misinformed but despite what the show says Malakai did not gaslight Amerie. This show's cringe a$s lines are generally nothing to take too seriously, but some of you do not know what that word means. Say he wasn't perfect, but what Malakai did was not gaslighting and it's clear that none of you have actually been gaslit if you think anyone treating you badly is them gaslighting you like it's a common descriptive verb. In season 1, I thought this show generally used teen-cringe language to be tongue-in-cheek, but words like narcissistic (s1) and gaslight are not just used as synonymous with lying and being a jerk.

Peter Montgomery at People For The American Way:

Donald Trump and his Christian nationalist supporters are demonstrating once again that much of the harshest anti-Christian rhetoric in our political life doesn’t come from secular leftists, it comes from right-wing Christian leaders and activists who bitterly trash the faith of Christians who don’t share their religious and political worldviews. Their most recent target is Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde, who spoke at the National Prayer Service held at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday. Budde talked for about 15 minutes on the topic of unity, using her last few minutes to directly and respectfully address Trump and ask for mercy on behalf of gay, lesbian, and transgender people, immigrants, and refugees.  The same religious-right leaders and activists who have embraced or explained away Trump’s relentless lying, cruelty, corruption, and criminality, were outraged by Budde’s willingness to challenge him over the harmful impact his actions as president will have on many people.

Sean Feucht, a dominionist musician, political activist, and ardent Trump supporter, was contemptuous, referring to Bishop Budde as “the priestess” and saying, “They should let Christians preach next time.”  In a video posted from within the Cathedral, Feucht literally sneered at the interfaith service’s inclusion of “all these random religions and faiths,” concluding, “this was not a church service.” He continued: "We’re gonna go have a real church service with a bunch of folks that were in here. We’re gonna go lift up the name of Jesus because we are one nation under God, not all these other random religions. We don’t all worship the same God. And we definitely don’t worship the God of the LGTBQ mafia." Feucht’s comments are a reminder that religious-right activists leaders are be quick to claim anti-Christian persecution when they are criticized for their harmful agendas or dishonest rhetoric, but they are themselves quick to attack other Christians. (Marjorie Taylor Greene recently provided another example, attacking the Catholic faith of Martin O’Malley because of his pro-choice position on abortion.)

[...] The kind of religious-right figures who constantly complain that conservative pastors aren’t preaching enough about politics complained that Bishop Budde would “lecture us about contemporary political positions,” in the words of Choral Ridge Ministries’ Rob Pacienza. Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins denounced Budde’s comments as “rather pathetic,” tweeting that “The cause of America’s decline was not what was sitting in the pew but what was standing behind the pulpit.” Wallbuilders’ Tim Barton had the gall to complain about Budde “making a political speech from the pulpit” and griped about the service including people of other faiths.  [...] It’s worth noting that other Christians have praised and welcomed Budde’s remarks as an example of the kind of moral courage and leadership that is required in an era when Trump’s MAGA movement has been fully embraced by dominionists and white Christian nationalists.

Christian nationalist MAGA pastors such as Sean Feucht, Jim Garlow, John Amanchukwu, Shane Vaughn, and co. whined about Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde’s challenging of Donald Trump from the pulpit.

Episcopalian Church's response to Trump by Hayden Vaughn

"President Trump,

1. Much like those who do not want you to be president, you do not get to decide whether a bishop's office is legitimate. She was chosen by the people of her diocese to be their bishop. Then, she was granted consent to be a bishop by other bishops and standing committees of our church's dioceses.

Beginning by calling her a

"so-called" bishop is an obvious low blow to discredit her as a person, rather than what she said that you disagree with. The Episcopal Church was legitimate enough to hold your third wedding, the funeral of Melania's

mother, and the baptism of your son, Barron. Barron also attended an Episcopal day school. Now you have an issue with how we do things when it doesn't go your way?

2. You didn't have an issue with politics being brought into the church by the ministers who spoke at your inauguration, or by yourself for that matter.

They were blatantly partisan, crediting God for your political success: "Mr.

President, the last four years there were times I'm sure you thought it was pretty dark, but look what God has done," Graham said.

3. She wasn't nasty in tone, plain and simple. I can't remember ever hearing a homily given in such a gracious manner and calm tone. If you disagree, listen to her speak. You may disagree with what she said, but her tone was in no way "nasty." Additionally, insulting her intelligence, rather than quoting what you disagree with, is a very typical narcissistic play.

Defending yourself about being asked to have mercy on immigrants by saying,

"A large number of illegal migrants came into our country and killed people," is a gross

misrepresentation and does not make sense. By that logic, we should be locking up or deporting all Americans because the majority of crimes were committed by citizens. We do need to improve our immigration system, but Scripture commands us as Christians to have mercy.

Mercy is a central tenet of our faith. Matthew 5:7 says, "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Leviticus 19:33-34 says, "When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God." If you take issue with this, take it up with God.

5. Saying the service was boring and uninspiring is a move to discredit the event rather than what specifically was said.

However, it's worth mentioning that the

purpose of a service is not to be "exciting." There are several purposes for our services, such as honoring God, bringing us closer to God, and being in community with one another. Being "exciting" is not one of them. As far as inspiration goes, that is in the eye of the beholder.

You get as much out of it as you put into it.

6. The Bishop does not owe you an apology. Our church does not owe you an apology. All that you were asked to do is what scripture directly asks us to do. If you could quote one thing she asked of you that isn't asked of us in scripture, we would apologize. Someone recently reminded me of something I often heard growing up in church. If you are offended by a minister's sermon or feel that it was a personal attack, look to see if you can find anything they said that was out of line with scripture and the teachings of Jesus. If you can't, that feeling is what we call "being convicted of your sin". The fact you are offended by what was said shows you know there is truth in it. To your supporters who also feel offended by it, the same does."

I Don't Have To Do a Damn Thing!

The guilt is eating away at Vaughn, he knows he needs to talk to Veronica but he can never seem to find the time. "Sweetheart we should talk somewhere private"

Veronica pulls Vaughn along while scanning the crowd for her parents. Vaughn on the other hand is a bundle of nerves.

Vaughn: Nice to see you again in better circumstances Mr and Mrs Reeves

Blair: Oh! Xavier speaks so highly of you. I'm happy to hear you and Veronica get along so well. She can bit of a handful, I hope you can manage

Vaughn: Don't worry. I'm able to handle

Brayden: I hear your grandma and cousin were at your graduation? We should have dinner together

Vaughn: I would love that. I'll set up a date. They continue to mingle and set up plans for the summer.

The conversation ends Vaughn and Veroinca find themselves sitting at a secluded booth. Finally, some quiet time. It may not be the best place but it's better to rip the bandage off and beg forgiveness than have Veronica find out from a different source.

Vaughn: Veronica, we need to talk

Veroinca: You're using my name? Are you going to break up with me?

Vaughn: Never.

Before Vaughn can continue a call cuts him off. It's an important call he couldn't ignore "Hold on for me Princess I'll be right back"

Veroinca: Let's leave after, it's getting boring

Vaughn: Sure, we'll go back to my Gram's place. I'll make us something to eat

Veronica waits patiently then begins to notice more stares aimed are being aimed at her. The whispers start to get louder and people start to point. It's hard to ignore until she receives a notification on her phone and her world gets quiet

Veroinca: Why should I believe you! I thought...you really liked me...I thought that...we wer-"

Veroinca is choking back on her tears, losing her train of thought. Malcolm warned her so many times. Why didn't she listen? Now everyone in SanMy sees her as another fucking conquest.

Vaughn: Veronica. I'm begging, please. You have to know I love you and I'm sorry. I was dumb then but I know better now.

Veroinca: You love me? Are you insane?? You don't know what that is!

Vaughn: Please...just believe me

Veronica: I don't have to do a damn thing!

Vaughn is in shambles his worst nightmare is coming true and he can't do anything to wake up from the terror. He tries to approach Veroinca, hug her, touch her hands, something to ease her pain but she slaps him away. "Don't you ever touch me again Whatever this is. It's over"

Vaughn watches Veronica walk past him and runs straight into her mother's arm. He can see her shoulders shake from her tears. Standing there Vaughn feels his world begin to crumble around him. He finally found something good and he fucking ruined it. How can he ever fix this?

of course being a radical communist islamist marxist infidel i do have #thots but Bassem Youssef on the Theo Vaughn show was really good.

in my experience, talking to lay people about politics plainly and simply is very effective. Getting people to a place of neutrality is a heavy lift. Is it ideal? No. But is it better than them being ideologically invested in empire, reflexively zionist, or (feigning) apathy? Sure.

And I know im ornery on #here but it's to ppl who are ideologically aligned with empire or being willfully ignorant. I'm quite patient with people who may ask leading, regurgitated bad faith questions in pursuit of clarity. Super easy to spot the difference. And as a recipient of several people's patience on issues, I know how long that goes.

The clarity, ~*humanity*~, humor, grace, and facts that Bassem displayed was admirable. Like motherfucker would set up a joke, drop a fact, tell the fact checker which article from which publication from which year he got it from, then drop the punchline.

And while I have more #thots on Vaughn's interview with a zionist (which i couldn't finish), the comment section was surprising. Overwhelmingly the people noticed how this guy was appealing to authority, religion, and emotion. Speaking generally and with PR voice. Compared to Bassem who was clearly biased, but upfront about that and matter of fact about everything.

The disparity of view count is crazy. 1mill for Bassem; 166k for the zionist.

Idk Theo from nobody. he's very clearly not knowledgeable and actually quite dumb (affectionate) and I think that works well for the Palestinian case (NOT so much for the zionist interview). Confusing Blinken for the israeli sec of state for example proved Bassem's point about how our politicians work on behalf of israeli interest which is of course ours. Mistaking hezbollah for hasbulla is just comedy gold. But it speaks to what happens when someone is really a blank slate and is asking questions genuinely; not gatchas or with agenda. It's a rare look at how clean the Palestinian cause is.

Now im not naive and don't think this is going to result in new recruits to The AQB (American Qassam Brigades) — of which mr. nsa I am most assuredly not a part of!— nor members of the uncommitted movement. But such a conversation and response from an audience was unthinkable even during the Great March of Return. This was a weather vane moment. and one that bodes well for us.
