Marita Vlachou at HuffPost:
The bishop who drew ire from Donald Trump for calling on him to show “mercy” to the people who are “scared” about him taking office said she won’t apologize for her words, in a new interview with NPR. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump blasted the Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde as “a Radical Left hard line Trump hater.” “She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way,” he wrote. But in an interview with NPR’s “All Things Considered,” Budde rejected his characterization. “Well, I’m not a Trump hater. I don’t hate the president, and I pray for him,” she said. “I don’t agree with some of his views of the country and the way — the decisions he makes, but I certainly don’t hate him.” “I’m a 65-year-old grandmother, and I am not those things. So I don’t know what to say except you don’t know me, Mr. President. And I don’t think I portrayed myself in that way in the pulpit,” she continued. In her sermon on Tuesday, Budde addressed Trump, who was in attendance, urging him “to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now.” “There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families, some who fear for their lives,” she said. “The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants.” “They may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals,” she added.
Bishop Budde is right to reject crybully Trump’s demands to apologize to him.

DID YOU KNOW for 25 years Matthew Shepard had no permanent resting place due to concerns his grave would be vandalized Reverend Budde learned of this, she invited the Shepards to inter him inside the Washington National Cathedral.
She was and is a real hero.

““Everybody there was shocked and mortified by the disturbing comments from this bishop who chose to weaponize the pulpit,” Leavitt told Fox News. “So the comments by that bishop yesterday were egregious, and she should apologize to President Trump for the lies that she told.”
Trump also demanded an apology from the bishop. On Tuesday night, he went on a Truth Social rant about the “nasty” sermon, calling the bishop a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater.”
“She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “She was nasty in tone and not compelling or smart.”
“She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA,” he continued.
The sermon this week came after Trump signed a slate of executive orders, including to end birthright citizenship and declare that there are only two sexes, that raised alarm for immigrant and LGBTQ people in the country.”

Have you actually listened to her? Not just read her words, but listened to the pain and sorrow she has? The worry for her fellow human?
I can't stand to watch him pretend to care, but play the clip and turn away from the screen if you can't either.
I can't help but wonder if he was so angry and offended because 1) a woman dared to challenge him on anything and 2) if she actually struck a nerve. Like if she was able to show him how horrible he is for a brief second and his only reaction when gazing into the abyss that is his soul is to lash out.
Not take time and reflect of who is he. He could never do that. Run from the truth of who he is by attacking more.
But to bring it back to who I'd rather talk about.
Thank you, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, for fearlessly speaking up for the voiceless.
I doubt this will change anything, as this man believes many of us shouldn’t exist and others aren’t worthy of basic rights because it doesn’t fit his vision of America.
But we all know this country was built on the backs of immigrants, and we all know this to be true.
We’ve faced this before and will overcome again. ✊🏼❤️

On January 21, 2025, a day after Trump was sworn in, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde presided over service at Washington National Cathedral. At the end of the service, she gave a plea to show mercy and understanding towards the immigrant and queer communities, and to in general "speak the truth to one another in love".
You can just see how much she made them squirm.
And, suffice to say, some did not hesitate to make their displeasure known:
But sure, they aren't a cult.
Of course, besides the fact that one should not be deported for a sermon or speech period, one could fact check him to see that Budde was born in New Jersey.
However, Collins probably already knew this, and it's not a stretch to see them agitate to strip the citizenship of even those who are generational Americans. Even if that doesn't happen, agitation like his is a form of stochastic terror that can have violent consequences.

“Let me make one final plea, Mr. President. Millions have put their trust in you, and as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives.
The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants, and work the night shifts in hospitals may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches, mosques, synagogues, gurdwaras, and temples.
I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear their parents will be taken away, and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here. Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land. May God grant us the strength and courage to honor the dignity of every human being, to speak the truth to one another in love, and walk humbly with each other and our God, for the good of all people, the good of all people in this nation and the world. Amen.”
~Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde
If you are a Christian and feel any outrage towards these words, you are NOT a Christian. Jesus called us to love others more than we love ourselves.

I may well have remained religious if there was more of Bishop Budde, because most of the Christians around seemed to be heiling on Trump with glee.
Lol someone in my hometown group page posted about how the love and kindness shown by bishop Budde has encouraged them to return to the church and were asking for recommendations for good churches similar to hers and a bunch of pissed off Christians are super angry about it calling her a heretic.
Like guys you have an active convert and you're literally undoing it yass queen give us nothing

Alex Bollinger at LGBTQ Nation:
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) said that he wants transgender children to “live in fear” of their own parents in response to a bishop asking Donald Trump to have “mercy” on LGBTQ+ people. Tuberville was responding to Right Rev. Marian Budde’s plea earlier this week that Trump have empathy for LGBTQ+ people – especially children – and immigrants.
“You have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy on the people in our country who are scared now,” she said at a prayer service on Tuesday. “There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families, some who fear for their lives.” Tuberville took issue with the Christian leader’s support for all children. “These ‘trans children’ should live in fear of their parents,” Tuberville wrote on X, “and the sick people that enable those ‘guardians.’” “It’s child abuse. An absolute disgrace.” Tuberville’s comments are based on the anti-LGBTQ+ myth that no one is actually LGBTQ+, that everyone is straight and cisgender until LGBTQ+ adults turn them gay or trans. This notion is false; homosexuality and trans identity are both natural parts of human diversity.
Moreover, there is no evidence that a person who is not LGBTQ+ can be turned LGBTQ+ by their parents. Instead, it’s a common experience for trans youth to hide their identities from authority figures, including their parents and teachers, because they know they are expected to be cisgender. Trans kids who do come out to their families often face rejection, punishment, abuse, conversion therapy, and homelessness instead of finding acceptance for who they are.
Unhinged anti-trans extremist Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) posted on X earlier this week that trans kids “should live in fear of their parents”. Tuberville falsely called parents/guardians who raise trans kids facilitators of “child abuse.”
Such a tweet from him is highly dangerous and an invitation to harm trans kids, and also plays into the BS “social contagion” myth.
