The funny thing is that we can see that being the case for a lot of Old Money folk today as well.

This interaction above highlights that there are parallels between atheists from Christian backgrounds operating in the framework of cultural Christianity... and white leftists operating in the framework of white supremacy.
And that includes extreme defensiveness from some when that's pointed out.
Maybe it's just because I follow a lot of Jewish bloggers but I really do think that if you're not seeing thoughtful, nuanced, and genuine discussions about cultural Christianity then uh. That's a you problem. Follow new people, including people that you may not necessarily agree with on everything. Be open to having your own behaviors discussed and criticized. Consider whether the discussions you're seeing are diverse in their perspectives or just dominated by Christians and ex-Christian atheists.
The people most hurt by cultural Christianity aren't really atheists, it's religious non-Christians who have to battle to be able to practice their religions and cultures in a society that is not built for them and is not welcoming to them and resists any attempts at making space for them. And I just think a lot of people aren't willing to talk about that because that would require working through a bit of their religious trauma and acknowledging that people deserve to have their religions treated with respect and they deserve to practice those religions safely and openly.

The way Superman depicted complicit civilians is gonna stick with me.
Because usually when you have your villain, usually the civilians working for them are gonna be largely faceless or cowed. And then when the hero crashes the scene, only the armed goons are taken out while said civilians flee to remove any questions.
In here though, you can tell they all enjoy working for Luthor. The technicians in his hq have fun plugging in directions to Ultraman. And those in the base camp wear tropical shirts while listening to music and playing games on their downtime. Nobody is working with rigid confirmity nor are there moral reservations (the only objection shown was when his obsession almost got them killed).
So when Mr. Terrific arrived on the scene, it is actually fitting that he wiped out the workers alongside the armed goons.
Also the way Superman's fellow prisoners not only attempted to snitch on him but actually tried to out snitch each other deserves a whole other analysis.

Okay so this has loads of potential as Peggy has yet to interact directly with Bertha or George (she was in the same space with Bertha during the meeting with Clara Barton, but still not the same).
But if Dr. Kirkland does end up coming to George's aid, if the Russels end up being in his debt, and if things connect between him and Peggy... well... just imagine.

Someone needs to commission Nathan Lane to do an audio book reading of Society as I Have Found It. And yes, he needs to do it in that drawl.

Just past halfway through this season, you can really see the fruits of this with Peggy's current arc.
The Gilded Age Season 3 Just Premiered Last Night...

And I just wanted to remind people that in addition to Downton Abbey's Julian Fellowes, three Black women also have producer credits, with Sonja Warfield (a writer) the latest with the promotion to executive producer:

....and Sallie Richardson-Whitfield who both helped to create it and directs episodes and finally... Erica Armstrong-Dunbar, as historic consultant/producer who wrote a biography about the escaped enslaved woman, Never Caught: The Washingtons' Relentless Pursuit of the Runaway Slave, Ona Judge who ran from the Washingtons' estate after learning she would be inherited by Martha Washington's relative. Yes, it matters.

So that's twice so far that Armstrong has moved to get someone sacked out her own paranoia... only for them to extend to her a graciousness she doesn't deserve.

So as unfortunate as it was that Jack was unceremoniously booted out (and the way Armstrong snitched on him was Not okay; her "the other staff" comment was doing a lot of heavy lifting 😒😒😒), he probable needed to be shoved out of the nest.
At a certain it was clear that he was staying on because it was his comfort zone. Now that he's forced to hit the ground running, we'll see how he can manage (both in terms of his fortune and if he is successful with his new invention). It is a good sign that he chose the more modest hotel suggested by Bannister as opposed to the more glamorous on on Fifth Avenue.
The fact that he unprompted gave back severalfold to both upstairs/downstairs also makes it clear that he is leaving on good terms; no doubt if he were to fall on hard times, the house would welcome him back.

That's actually the funny thing. While there were indeed workers trying to get Mr. Terrific with their clipboards, you could see quite a few being zapped while they were trying to run away.
The use of Hawaiian shirts does make me wonder if it's also a reference to the Boogaloo movement.

Leftists(tm) continue to be a hoot.
Especially when the "West crumbling" not only does jack shit to stop the stem the advance of fascism and imperialism (and it certainly won't stop the Israeli gov considering how neither Russia or China have cut ties despite noise made), but is giving it fertile soil for it to grow.
And of course this is certainly not hurting those whom tje GOP is really catering to.
There is a reason many Black political organizers (which isn't to say there aren't leftists who are Black) have been some of the first to call out Leftists.
Leftists really saw Liz Cheney campaigning with Kamala Harris to say, "Even I, a neocon, recognize how dangerous Trump is" and went "Is this giving concessions to Republicans?"

Also we see that in how Reed includes him when providing information as well as actually taking his space suit ideas into account (the only reason Johnny was brushed off was due to perceived priorities).
And importantly, his emotional intelligence adds depth to his intellect and provides a foil to Reed.
Johnny's an absolute himbo... who probably graduated valedictorian.
FANTASTIC FOUR SPOILERS
I just came back from watching it and my favorite part of the movie was how they depicted Johnny and his intelligence.
Johnny in this movie is actually competent and it shows in many scenes. He’s often the first one to reaction in situations and when they’re trying to escape Silver Surfer, he figured out how to use the space warp against her.
And then there’s the biggest example of all, Johnny basically decoding an alien language by himself. Man had a singular phrase, some recordings and a dream.
He did it again, all on his own. He spent time on it, did translations one by one and then singularly used it against the Silver Surfer in an attempt to gain her support.
Yes Johnny is reckless, he’s flighty but he’s also competent. He was trained and picked to be an astronaut for a reason, not because he was Sue’s brother/Reed’s brother in law.
The movie highlighted everyone’s strengths, intellect and talents in a way that made everyone have an important part in the story. This allowed them to add their own weight into the story and stand shoulder to shoulder with Reed’s intellect.

So I'm aware that Reed Richards was just ideating, and that he was even aware at how... questionable his ideation was.
But I couldn't help but imagine Joel Miller's reaction to said ideating.
