Day 12 - Madness Okay, maybe I went a little stereotypical But I don't need to be original I couldn't help it (Prop list is from @crowholtz )

Even thou I rarely post about our games, I'm in NEED to tell, that we had the wedding and boss fight in two games. AND my PC Marik made the costumes for everyone %)

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD

Our Ireena was kept safe in Krezk church (but before that she was heavily injured and now her legs.... are spider legs... interesting a confluence of circumstances led to this by our actions...) and the Abbot let us know about his meaty bride-golems... Anyway, so, Vasilka took the main-bride place. Hooray, I guess??? Strahd notified, that our circus team satisfied him by bringing a lady to the castle and he can start the ceremony. Then we kinda blew up his heart, and part of Ravenloft......... accidently killed 3/4 consorts by casting Tsunami....... WHAT A NIGHT AND WE WERE IN BEST SUITS EVER HUH

So funny story. My DM had the idea of using tarot cards to figure out how each character's story arc was going to go for Curse of Strahd. They asked to pull for Quinn a few times before getting together for an official read with the rest of the party. He got the Three of Swords. Every. Single. Time. And boy have things been living up to it.

Today we're thinking about how they were both created with intention and directed toward a specific purpose. How neither of them were created with free will in mind, and yet are being made to exercise it. Neither are human, but they're interacted with as if they are. I could go on.

aspects of tatyana's dark skin and red hair, as well as a call to patrina's blue dusk elven skin. the abbot paid close attention to the unfortunate reincarnations and tried to meticulously piece together the perfect bride.

I won't be personally redesigning every npc, but Vasilka's special. One of my PCs is a reborn, Torva.

a corpse plucked from Argynvostholt and played with by the abbot. Eventually the corpse was sentient once again and walking amongst the living. The abbot holds him dearly as a golden child and marker of great progress for trial and erroring his real goal, Vasilka.

Vasilka is Torva's little sister. He'd watch as her corpse lay stagnant and waited for the day she would awake as he did. He'd talk to her and hoped to meet her one day, but as he set off for his own journey, he would miss out on the day Vasilka rises. (but he'll get to meet her during the campaign :p i promise !)

6. Did you make any NPCs more sympathetic than in canon? Or less sympathetic?

i really tried to make victor a bitch. upon meeting the party he was a loser who was guarding the tome of strahd and admitted to killing two people within about a minute of conversation. he continues to be snarky and abrasive at every opportunity and STILL my party likes him. i can’t get them to abandon him. so now i gotta find some plot hook for him (stay tuned on that)

strahda has been changed to have a backstory that’s more sympathetic to my players. she’s a lesbian who was trapped in a marriage with sergei because she was being passed over due to sexism (in my game, sergei and tatyana are related rather than sergei and strahd), and her snapping point was that the man she’d married was upset she didn’t love him.

izek (confirmed) - captured in the blue water inn, taken to a cave and interrogated, then executed

lydia and vargas vallakovich (presumed) - a riot started at the festival of the blazing sun and they were thrown into the woods covered in raw meat juice. could have theoretically survived but haven’t made an appearance yet

fiona, karl, and nikolai wachter (confirmed) - off-screened by another npc for being banites

sasha (on general principle) - i may have gotten rid of baba lysaga, but i kept her house! it’s named sasha. died when the party removed the gem from inside of it to give it back to the martikovs

rahadin vhenikatchu (confirmed…?) - possessed by the warlock’s patron and then walked off the drawbridge outside castle ravenloft. his body might be mush, but maybe something could be done with his bones…

sylon donahue (confirmed) - resident of the abbey, killed to start a murder mystery. he barely counts

ezmerelda d’avenir (confirmed) - fell unconscious due to smoke inhalation during the fall of argynvostholt, then fell from the third floor to the ground when ireena’s grip slipped. the party was told she was dead before she fell…

vasilka greene (confirmed, but resurrected) - stabbed to death and hung from a tree, with a message carved into her back to bait the party into looking for her murderer. she was immediately taken up to the abbey, and her injuries were mild enough to be treated via raise dead. the abbot lost their shit and immediately resurrected her

for a grand total of 11!

Watching other people run around with Ireena is so funny because our “Ireena” doesn’t exist and is instead a PC

... and so Is our Vasilka and so is our Wizard and we have Vlad’s husband.... I’m the only motherfucker here playing a completely original character lol

The whole arc of fighting the Abbot and losing Vasilka was rough for me and Imrath both. He’s lucky Izek was dragging him away from the explosion, otherwise he might not have survived to have that sweet little girl die in his arms.
