I WOULD LOVE MORE DEMON REACTIONS!! I love it both when you add lore and when you just describe sy’s relationships and peoples’ reactions to him. It is so awesome!!!! For demons I imagine that everyone is just like, look at the little funky crow man(when they aren’t terrified of his reputation at least). I imagine some upstart demon noble or something goes to try and make an alliance with/conquer the corvids or smth and then they either get absolutely bodied by the crows who don’t want to share their king or the meet sy and are just in shock because this guy?? This is the feared corvid king?? At least until sy mentions something from his knowledge of PIDW and they get absolutely freaked out because how does he know that?? What do you mean my daughter will be married off soon?? Maybe there is going to be rumors about him being a seer or something. ESPECIALLY if what sy mentions is in relation to a bloodbath that bingge from PIDW caused since crows are associated with death(at least in our world). I wonder how intimidated they would be since not only does sy have a terrifying reputation. But he is a heavenly demon. And like you mention, Tianlang-jun ran a whole empire. ALSO!! I love the reactions so much! Tianlang-jun just shipping sy with zzl when they brawl whilst sy is just in full bird brain and doesn’t want to share his shinys. Imagine all the rumors that would fly around(probably encouraged by tlj) When Binghe sees this he’d throw an absolute FIT!

There is a lot to unpack here, all of it absolutely delightful, but I'm going to be a little freak and start on what's been tugging at my mind as I read this. (I'll probably have to write a part two because I can feel my autistic little brain whirring at at least ninety miles an hour, I'm so sorry) DID YOU KNOW THAT IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY, CROWS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH APOLLO, GOD OF (amongst other things) PROPHECY. I am a teeny weeny bit of a Greek mythology nut, so this immediately jumped me the moment I read about demons viewing SY as a seer of sorts (in the instance that the system was either far more relaxed or non-existent). So, so, basically, in Greek mythology, Apollo learned that one of his lovers (Coronis, I believe) was being unfaithful through ravens/crows and this led to him turning them from white to black! Due to them being featured in this myth, he is heavily associated with them and, in general, they are associated with prophecy and divination. SO, if we want to fuck around in our little sandbox (under the impression that Airplane is stealing from other mythologies aside from just Chinese mythology), we can decide that there is at least three wife plots in PIDW that surround crows and their ideas of prophecy!!! When Shen Yuan starts blabbering about these different future events, and then they HAPPEN, the other demons are like GASP. FUCK. The crow knowss.....ANDANDANDAND, RIGHT, THE IDEA OF CROW DEMONS BEING ABLE TO DIVINE VIOLENT/DEADLY DISASTERS BECAUSE OF THEIR ASSOCIATION WITH DEATH JUST MAKES PEOPLE MORE SCARED OF SHEN YUAN'S PREDICTIONS. HFGROGERGWOHRGHGS SOSHOHRORRRY SORRY SORRY, THIS HAS BECOME A RAMBLE THAT'S ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT YOUR ASK TOUCHES UPON BUT A P O L L O . HE HAS A TUMULTUOUS RELATIONSHIP WITH CROWS/RAVENS BECAUSE HE SCORCHED THEM BLACK AND THEY CHATTED ABOUT HIS LOVER'S UNFAITHFULNESS, SO IF WE HAVE A DEITY THAT IS LIKE APOLLO IN PIDW, WE COULD ALMOST EVEN IMPLY THAT WHEN THE DIVINE CROW BEINGS FELL TO SIN, THIS IS WHAT CAUSED IT! THEY FELL TO GOSSIP AND WERE DIVINELY PUNISHED BY THIS DEITY, AND AND, OUT OF SPITE AFTER THEY BECAME ENTRENCHED IN SIN, THE HEAVENLY CROW DEMONS BEGAN DIVINING TO THE WEAK MORTALS WITHOUT THE DEITY TELLING THEM TO BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO GET BACK AT THE DEITY AHAHAHAHAHA. (obviously this isn't a definite thing, it's just an alternative way for the heavenly crows to become heavenly demons. It's just me chattering to myself) I'll make a separate post on the MAIN demons' reactions to SY but, in general, most demons are either actively petrified of him because of his image as a deity, or they're relatively disillusioned because they've seen him in person and he's been a SWEETHEART, hitting them with the wife beam. That doesn't mean that they aren't still kind of terrified of the powerful, prophetic crow heavenly demon deity, but in a "scared but horny way", and that's only when SY displays this power! Most of the time he's an undeniably strange but incredibly kind hearted guy that just seems to want to help everyone!! Even if he hates doing things!!! Tianlang-Jun is always under the full determination of "ONE of my relatives is going to marry this crow demon, or I'm going to do it myself." The first time Zhuzhi-Lang and Luo Binghe hear that they both immediately just stare at TLJ like "don't you dare, you whore" (ZZL a lot more respectful than LBH, of course), but TLJ is booored. Someone better fuck marry that freak or he'll do it himself.

First Line Writer Game

Saw this game and thought it would be a fun exercise!

My last 10 works and their opening lines:

A Muse of Fire - He did not think twice about the words, here at the front of their Kondou hall, he had made his thoughts clear as the clouds rolled over head, bringing more snow on this accurssedly long winter

The World Turns and the World Changes - The fire was flickering in front of Ryuuji's eyes as he carefully dug into what was left of his meal.

All that We Wish to Stay - Ryuuji toddled into the kitchen with a, “mama?” and a sleepy yawn as he rubbed at his eye, dragging his blanket behind him with his other hand.

With Glimmering Eyes - Ryuuji, despite his gruff and intimidating appearance, found himself often moved to tears.

Not Always What We See - Ryuuji had missed too much in the last month.

BRS and Other Thoughts - It was right there, written in bold but messy characters, which told Ryuuji everything he needed to know about who had written the request for that name.

The Taming of the Trees - “Why did it happen?”

A Notice on Notice- Yukio’s class was full of idiots.

A Not So Marble-ous Plan - For ten years he had guarded Mephy Land.

Bathe and Breathe - It was a ritual at this point.

I went with stories that were just by me instead of cowritten, and mostly stuck with one shots because they tend to have more variety on how I start. Typically I do a declarative statement, but I do find it hilarious that one of the only quotes in the entirety of The Taming of the Trees was in the opening. I am also proud of myself that only half of these are bonrin xD I am also either wordy af or short and too the point.

Inktober 1. Mythology

Yeah so I'm actually doing inktober (only 10 prompts though cuz mental illness and pain), I just forgot to take the photo

I drew her more monater-like cuz she's supposed to be ugly and a monster, and I'm kinda sick of everyone just drawing her as a hot lady with snake hair all the time

just thinking about how many 'lives' misao lived throughout the years and as a result, how many people could potentially be wondering what happened to her, because she affected their own lives in one way or another. like in one of these previous lives, she worked as a orchardist for this wealthy family whom would open up their apple orchard in late august to the public and close it in november. so as you can imagine, misao had to uhh. Kill a lot of people within a short amount of time.

and because this wealthy family provided her with housing + a paycheck in exchange for taking care of the orchard year-round, she would literally 'stock up' on what she needed for months ahead within it as horrible as that sounds. and everything was okay for a while, as the family mostly kept their distance from the orchard since they trusted misao to take care of it. BUT they made an unexpected visit one day and discovered all of the terrible things misao stored in her fridge. + yeah... that marked the end of her time as a orchardist with this family.

but the thing is that she had this repeated customer during the time the apple orchard was open to the public who like liked her. and he wanted to properly court her. BUT by the time he tried to do so, she had disappeared without a trace from the place. and just a few weeks later, that wealthy families bodies were found washed ashore a lake a couple of miles away.

and this begs the question whether this guy is still wondering what happened to her + whether she had anything to do with what happened to the couple. but this is only one example of how misao has unintentionally left little 'breadcrumbs' of her continued existence around the world, so there's got to be more than just that man who remembers her and that's like. DAMN... misao really has messed up a lot of people's lives AHHH and she is certainly not as sneaky as she believes she is sometimes

but what to expect is mainly just bulletpoints of lore. maybe a brief explanation of things to clarify some stuff here and there if needed. they're just not meant to be too long. we trying bitesized things.

of course, the points will be mostly that of lore for whoever/whichever character. but i will probably sprinkle in some random facts in regards to the thing in general. like for example, 'urania is one of the earliest characters i've ever designed'.

which, there you go, a freebie preview. laughing. if you guys manage to catch the post of the day, feel free to ask questions in curiosity or just to make things more clear. or comment whatever. like, points. wow, he's stupid. which, i would probably agree. LOLOL.

i will do my absolute best to at least post five to ten??? things per day for the first week of february. if it becomes too much afterwards, then i'll probably do just a weekly drop with a bit more than ten with whatever i can come up with that week.

I may not be looking in the right parts of the internet, but I think Where The Water Tastes Like Wine is an underrated gem

so there's this game called "Where The Water Tastes Like Wine". I got it for free on Epic a few years back, never finished it (in fact I didn't get much further than Ohio I think), but each time I installed and launched it, I immediately fell in love with it again.

It's a simple game - we get a cutscene in which Dire Wolf (an anthropomorphic wolf who beats us in cards) sends us on our quest to travel the 48 contiguous American states just after the Great War, experience stories, tell them to people, and then watch as the stories grow to be elaborate, often thrilling, urban legends and folk tales

the graphics are simple, but they're just enough to make things recognisable in the overworld, but when you get to gathering and telling stories, the artstyle gets very pretty - very scruffy-like drawings of the characters and scenes very much fit the game, and elevate its atmosphere a lot. The music slaps - go listen

but this is not what made the game for me - or well, not the graphics or music at least. It's the objective of the game, that I think makes the game a gem worth its value

so as I said, WTWTLW is a game about gathering and telling stories - as you travel across post-war america you'll encounter many a strange things and scenes, and you'll meet fellow wanderers of the world, whose stories you will also learn in exchange for your stories.

it's a central mechanic, as those tramps and wanderers will spread the stories, allowing them to change and become more captivating. And that's why I love this game - not only are the characters interesting, the game revolves around the origins of what nowadays we'd call the post-colonial American folklore, or what we'd call a post-colonial American mythology if it christianity wasn't baked into the colonist-American cultures. I am not sure how many of the stories are actual pieces of american folklore - there's of course the Jersey Devil there, and there's also what seems to be a "the colour from out of space" reference in one spot as well (although that's not exactly folklore), but many seem like something that sound plausible to be actual folklore, while also being written specifically for the game.

The game showcases this evolution of mere retellings of someone's experiences into actual legends and myths - all of them having their seeds in actual events, that got blown out of proportion (e.g. there's a story, where a fisherman tells you "the seagulls came, there's enough fish for us to survive one more year", and later when you gather a newer version of the story, you'll find that the seagulls are now talking, and the fisherman asks them where to find the fish)

The POV character will sometimes remark that "hey, I remember this story, this isn't exactly how it goes!" - and that's another thing I love they got right about this central theme of the game. Stories change overtime, and they will vary from period to period, from place to place.

That's what the Iliad and the Odyssey probably started as

That's what so many pieces of folklore and mythology probably started as

And each version of the story is just as right as the other, because there is no "one true and definitive" version of a folk tale by definition.

I love this game, it's very fun and philosophical (kinda like disco elysium), and it got its central aspect VERY FRICKING RIGHT

In the past I've done things like naming them after characters from musicals or taking inspiration from the scientific names of species they're based on, but I don't want to reuse themes I've already done. I'm open to other ideas though--the more potential for variety and silliness, the better!!
