***TWST JP news + anniversary spoilers below the cut!***

The stream starts with Ace, Deuce, Jack, Ruggie, and Sebek's VAs replying to a bunch of quiz questions. I think Ace or Deuce responds with "810" when asked how many items there are on the Heartslabyul lounge's coffee table. Sebek's VA also has a hilarious answer when asked how many Draconians (wakasama fans) there are, he pulls out some super absurdly high number with tons of zeros in it.

There is then a Master Chef/Culinary Crucibles-type section where the VAs decorate their own cake for TWST's anniversary. It’s a team effort! Ace and Deuce put on the cream, Sebek added cookies on top, and Jack and Ruggie did the final decorations. It ended up looking pretty cute ^^ (Ace's VA is the one that added all the whipped cream peaks; it was mostly thanks to Ruggie's VA that the cake still looked aesthetically pleasing at the end.)

Actual game-related news time!!! The SR Grim card for the 4th anniversary is... drumroll please...!! 🥁Apprentice Chef Grim!!! ABGKSKVUkvuDSQEVUOFDFIHAFVA HE'S SO CUTE, HE EVEN HAS A LIL TUNA CAN CAKE 😭

For anniversary, there will be a series of free items given out if you log in during the event period (11th to 25th), which includes THREE 10-pull keys (released on the 11th, 15th, and 18th, respectively). You can receive up to 12 days' worth of freebies. There will be an anniversary banner as per usual; you can earn tokens by pulling on this and then trade them in for a SR magical key (50 tokens) and/or past event-limited SSRs (150 tokens), including past years' birthday cards (100 tokens). There will be a new "Event Recollection" feature which allows you to experience events that you may have missed getting the initial chance to play through yourself.

Mr. S's Mystery Shop will sell items from past events such as limited Groovy materials and spell upgrade materials. This is called the "Memory Shop".

You will be able to mark (multiple) parts of the story as your "favorite". This will be indicated with a pink heart icon.

Battles will have a new feature which allows you to save team compositions for them. Up to 25 compositions may be saved at a time. You can also pin your supports, so you no longer have to scroll to find a specific friend's character to borrow.

There will be 3 new item gachas added to the "Item Lotto" of the shop (for Crewel, Vargas, and Trein). Previously, there was only Sam's. You use a new type of medal (obtained by taking classes) to roll on the teachers' lottos, and can pull items related to what you'd typically earn in each of their classes.

Crewel's gacha may provide an herbal tea which can be used to boost Buddy Levels, including those for characters that are otherwise unable to take Alchemy classes. That means Crowley, Rollo, etc. are fair game. (Yes, you can force feed them tea to obtain FRIENDSHIP✨) The tea may also drop during Special Lessons or Alchemy class.

We finally get magical key conversion! On the summoning screen, you can turn 10 single pull keys into one 10-pull key (which guarantees at least 1 SR; single keys do not have this benefit).

The Guest Room will receive a second floor to decorate. This will be unlocked once you reach a Guest Room rank of 31.

The Guest Room rank cap will be increased from 30 to 40. Additionally, all properties of floor 1 appears to carry over to floor 2. This means the same comfort level and attributes will be present across both.

New BGMs will be added to Mr. S's Mystery Shop. There will also be new voice lines added to Alchemy, Flying, and the outfit selection screen. The official TWST soundtrack will be released on the 29th of May, though preorders are tentatively open now. It is 140+ tracks (149, to be exact!) across 4 discs and goes for 4620 yen (inclusive of tax; without tax the soundtrack is 4200 yen). Japanese retailers are offering different dorms' A5 sized holographic sticker sheets as bonuses for preordering.

We’ll be getting the following new functions:

Part 1 (beginning 11 Mar):

Event Recall - Previously completed stories will be available to enjoy in the same way the original events were presented (instead of just the story in archive form). If the event story has not already been unlocked through normal play through, it will require gems to unlock. Missed rhythmics will be made available in the RHYTHMIC page once cleared. This is available through the Story tab.

Memory Shop - Items that were previously available during events (such as extra cards and groovy items, etc.) will be available in the Memory Shop. Memory Medals are required to purchase items from this shop, which can be bought in the gem shop, or during this event in the Tuna Can 2024 Shop. You must have finished the event either via the original run or from the Event Recall for items to be available for purchase.

Crewel/Trein/Vargas Item Gacha - New Item Gacha will be available that require "Reward Medals" to roll in. These Reward Medals will be dropped during lessons. The Item Gachas will have items from those respective lessons available. In addition, Crewel's Item Gacha will have the new Buddy Lv Up Items.

Buddy Lv Up Items - The Friendship Herb Tea will be available to increase Buddy Levels of cards. There will be three tiers (L, M, and S) and will be dropped during Alchemy and Special classes.

Other Changes

Up to 25 teams can be saved for use during battles. Support or Guest cards cannot be saved in a team.

Support Cards can be pinned, so that they will be easily accessible whenever you need that support.

There will be an option to favorite specific story chapters available from the Archive screen.

Single Magical Keys can now be converted to a Tenfold Magical Key, given that you have 10 single keys available.

Lesson Skip Tickets will become available. This cannot be used for Special lessons.

Collect Battles can be completed in a batch similar to Tests.

Magic Lv can be increased multiple levels at once instead of one at a time.

Battle Speed can now be set to 3x.

AP, BP, and RP can be refilled in batches instead of one at a time.

The Trouble sequence in the Guest Room can be skipped.

The Guest Room invite time will be reduced.

Part 2 (Beginning 15 Mar):

Second Floor of the Guest Room - A second floor to the Guest Room will be added that can be decked out with its own theme, furniture, and BGM. This will unlock at room rank 31.

Event BGM added to Guest Room - The BGM Shop will have previous event BGM available.

Other Changes

New voice lines for alchemy and flight classes.

New voice lines for when changing attire form on the home screen.

Room rank maximum raised to 40.

Part 3 (Beginning 18 Mar):

New Cumulative Missions - Missions regarding cards/lessons/exams will be added to the Missions tab.

Weekly Missions Updated - Clearing Rhythmics 3 and 5 times will be removed, and instead will be replaced by Win 5 and 10 Collect Battles.

The Tuna Can [2024] is an event drop and you can get 1, 2 or 5 randomly by completing lessons (History, Flying or Alchemy). You can see how many you have on the bottom of the Event Page. Left is how many you have right now (so if you spent some, the number is lower), right is how many you have collected until now (this is what you need to make Grim permanent).

To quickly go to Grim’s lessons from the event page, click on the Lesson button on the Main Event page or go all the way to the right on the Lesson Page, right after Diasomnia.

When you click on Grim’s card to level him up, you’ll get a message reminding you that he isn’t permanent yet, so items and madol spent on him will also disappear if you don’t make him permanent in time. Just click the black button to proceed.

One of the missions is to level up one of Grim’s magic to Lv.5 and we suggest you start with his M1 if only to complete the missions faster, because you use Tuna Cans to level up magic and the amount needed for each magic is different. (To level up magic, just click on the 4th tab: 魔法Lv)

Stamp Card Info

On the bottom left of the Event Page you’ll see a Stamp Icon, click there and complete some missions for rewards.

The event ends on the 25th, but the First Stamp Card only goes until the 15th 14:59 (JST), so pay attention to the time limit.

Last song: Spring för Livet by Sara Varga, an old Melodifestivalen-entry that I was recently reminded of and have been listening to on repeat since.

Favorite color: It varies constantly, but lately I've been in a yellow kick.

Last movie: Lady and the Tramp live action, one of my background noise rotation movies

Last book: I do not know :P My reading these days is mostly Sims 2 stories and I'm not mad about it! But most likely something in the Rangers Apprentice series by John Flanagan, I go back to those sometimes when I want to read.

Sweet/spicy/savory: Why is salty not an option?! The Scandi licorice lover is mildly offended. But of these options, then sweet.

Day 40

Longnotch

I unpacked the new outfit and weapon I was awarded for prevailing as Chieftain. I'm actually starting to look the part. Some of the Werak even seem excited to have me as their leader, given my reputation. Wonder what they'd say if they knew I plan to ditch them as soon as I have the information I need.

I met Varga, Burgrend's daughter—business partner, I mean. She expressed the same frustrations with the Banuk and their insular tendencies when it comes to trading, and she was eager to take a look at my weapons. First, the Stormslinger that Ourea gave me after our first meeting.

As it turns out, she was the one to build Ohlgrud's Forgefire, which he subsequently used to torch a Banuk encampment and kill many hunters. I'll bet that's made her popular. She was glad to have it—her, as Varga would say—back. She examined the Icerail I'd been awarded as Chieftain as well. For all three weapons, she had an idea to improve their design and make them stronger, but I need to salvage parts from a Bellowback, Stormbird and Thunderjaw. I haven't seen any Stormbirds around these parts, but the other two should be easy.

Before I could seek out Aratak, I was hailed by a hunter named Umnak. He told me of the Claws Beneath, a legendary machine that has felled many Banuk hunters from here to Ban-Ur. He hunted it himself 20 years ago and lost his friend, and was now seeking it in the Cut to finally put an end to its terror. But he realised that he's grown too old and weak to face it and prevail. I was surprised by such a seasoned Banuk describing himself so, but age humbled Umnak just as it made Lauvuk bitter. Both envy their fallen friends' brave deaths in battle. He asked me to hunt the beast in his place so that it could never claim another life, even if it meant losing the glory of falling to it himself. He was more concerned with seeing it gone, so I agreed to help him.

I spoke to Aratak at the camp's edge before moving on to the wall of ice surrounding Thunder's Drum. He was sullen, both at his defeat and what he saw as sure death waiting for us on the mountain. He spoke of Ourea and her time as a slave of the Carja. She was forced to track and subdue the machines that were set loose on innocents in the Sun Ring. The Carja made her complicit in their crimes, and Aratak said it changed her. When she returned to her homeland, the spirit was all she believed in.

Ourea stood ready by the icy edifice with her apprentice Naltuk at her side. She was elated to be so close to her spirit again. I brought up what Aratak said, but Ourea said that captivity only honed her purpose, just as the war whittled Aratak to his core. The strongest shard of ice, she said; he endured a thousand days of battle, over a score wounds, rallying his hunters to keep the Carja from the lands further north. So the war turned them separate ways.

Ourea lamented that she had only ever caused trouble for Aratak. I could tell she didn't want him here, risking his life for her all over again.

As Chieftain, I asked Ourea about Sylens. After all I'd done to help her, she begrudgingly broke her oath and told me all she knew. She met him in Ban-Ur, when he came down from the far north as a Shaman unparalleled in his knowledge of machines. She wished to learn from him, and soon he had impressed the Conclave enough to be invited to their midwinter summit to speak on matters of the Blue Light. After the first night of the summit, the Concalve returned to find the sacred caves ransacked of their spoils—artefacts of the Old Ones. Definitely sounds like Sylens. No one saw him after that, though the greatest Weraks of Ban-Ur sent their best to track him. Even the remnants of his distant northern Werak disappeared.

Ourea warned me again not to trust him, though she acknowledged that he was a powerful ally if our needs aligned. It's nothing particularly damning, though it says a lot that Sylens was willing to exile himself from his own tribe forever just to obtain these artefacts, whatever they were. An outcast by choice, then.

I have to stay vigilant. Who knows what Sylens is really leading me toward...or why he wants it found.

Ourea and Naltuk guided a flurry of smoke and embers through a hole that Aratak struck from the ice. The ancient grating answered with a warm glow and a wailing alarm. Then the ice shuddered and shed, revealing an entrance to the structure. From inside, a machine voice—a non-feeling one—spoke, telling its occupants to flee. Some sort of mechanism that sensed the smoke and fire, I guess. Ourea said, with no small amount of pride, that she had called upon the power of the Old Ones. I’m not sure she understood that no one was listening, but I’ll admit it was an impressive display.

Inside, red hot machine components hung suspended, coated in frost. I found more datapoints inside, and Ourea noticed me pausing to listen. I just told her I could hear memories, messages left behind—of course she was envious, maybe any Shaman would be. If I had another Focus, maybe I would give it to her.

The spirit told Ourea that its domain was a fortress, one built to protect the world from calamity. Is that what all this machinery was for—weapons?

Deeper inside, past more Daemonic machines, we came to an open space crawling with machines and the fallen bodies of the first expedition separating us from the interior ruin. More huge, red hot cores sparking with electricity, making power from...something. I took down a Bellowback and harvested the part Varga needs to upgrade my Forgefire.

I led Ourea and Aratak up and around the perimeter, avoiding the larger machines on the path of the first expedition. We managed to sneak through the smaller machines most of the way to the entrance, until Aratak drew the attention of a Stalker. He did well to make it as far; stealth clearly isn't his style. We made a dash for the entrance and got through without a fight.

Inside, I was able to activate a holo projector, not connected to my Focus. I think the technology is older—maybe before Faro made Focuses at all. Anita and Kenny—I found more of their recordings and audio logs back in Ourea's retreat. The recording was a celebration of completing their work on project Firebreak. They introduced Cyan—the spirit, a thinking machine built with the intelligence to stabilise the Caldera for many years to come. More than her creators were expecting, it seems.

I found more information in datapoints. This place was called the Yellowstone Caldera, a place where the heat at the core of the world flows upward, making the lands unstable and in danger or erupting in liquid fire and poison smoke. Firebreak was built to stop it...and so was Cyan.

We descended into the ruin, where the ground split and gave way to pools of fire. Together we took down a field of machines, including a Scorcher. Aratak's Icerail came in handy, though my own is still less effective than my sling. I'm sure Varga can fix that.

Ourea was right about the door barring the rest of the path. Just like a Cauldron. For a moment it seemed like my override module would get us through without issue, until the voice of the Daemon emanated from it, sending a purple shock down the length of my spear and coating the door in same glowing tines that entangle its Daemonic machines. It sent defensive countermeasures of its own: an infected Thunderjaw.

I started by tearing off its cannons as Ourea and Aratak rained elemental damage. With sling and Icerail we froze it and I used its cannon to take it down.

This time, the door relented, but the space beyond was covered in the Daemon's glowing, infectious veins. It broke Ourea's heart to see the extent of the damage. More crucially, the path she once took to the spirit was gone. We'd have to carve one through.

The infection felt like the cabling of a Cauldron, but more malleable, like clay, all shot through with light. The structural resemblance strengthened the further we travelled, new metal plating over and displacing the old. Other Cauldron's weren't built this way—they seemed more like their own machines, built wholesale in carved-out mountain cores and deep underground. This place was improvised, erratic, like a Cauldron grown wild. And purple.

I used my usual strategies to navigate the Cauldron, destroying remnants of the infection that blocked my improvised climbing paths. I forged a path for Ourea and Aratak by overriding nodes to cast cable bridges across perilous gaps, made more so by the magma.

Further on, I overrode one of the Daemon's nodes to uncover a message the spirit, Cyan, had left behind. The Daemon was using her facilities to build dangerous new machines—that much was obvious—but before the Daemon could cut off her transmission, she also said she'd developed 'restraints' for the Daemon, but nothing about what they were or how to use them. She left a log for my Focus as well, but I couldn't understand most of it. All in the language of machines. Hopefully there are more nodes along the way.

In the enclosed tunnel, we took some time to catch our breath and patch ourselves up before pressing on. We'd been travelling for most of the day and into the night. The paths through were dangerous, circuitous, but slowly we were working our way toward the core. It will only get more dangerous the more desperate the Daemon grows to bar our passage.

Ourea is still hopeful for the spirit's rescue. Just the sound of her voice was enough to reignite her faith.

So… I had a very hard time figuring out where the staff fit in to everything here but I think I found a way to make it work. I’m a very bad writer so… enjoy my mess of an Au

- The event that happened before this was the banishment of the titans

- After this the clans were in disarray, with new territories opened there were many battles and arguments of who gets what. In all of this chaos came an increase of negative energy and blot as a result the magic became very corrupted which caused Beast war. Cats with a Dire Beast form got majorly corrupted and went insane.

- The Clans untied to defeat the corrupt Dire Beast. It was a hard long battle, many great warriors were lost but in the end.

- The leaders agreed in the end that this could never happen again.

- In the best attempt to make peace they created a neutral territory around the great tree and the moonstone, any cat could go there at any time of day. Hoping that this would broker peace between the clans.

- when CrowStar took over he decided to take it a step further and have Warriors and apprentices alike to learn how to fight, hunt and master magic.

- Many didn’t agree with this but begrudgingly went along with it because it was an order from starclan

Other information about me: music nerd, I play piano and double bass. I also dance but that doesn't mean I have balance lol. I'm in my third year of pointe. 30 day twst challenge: day 13

favorite 3rd year?

it's a hard choice, but i will probably go with trey for this as i wanna talk a little more about him. he is a level-headed and down to earth dude who somehow gets caught up in the chaotic antics of nrc sometimes. i can appreciate the sense of normalcy he has, and also how sometimes, he can show a bit of a mischievous side.

he gets along well with many students, which is almost relaxing to read in a sense?? like you kinda know whenever he's around, it's likely going to be a stable situation. and the way he plays off of characters like vil (apprentice chef trey and labwear vil vignettes), jade (camp vargas 2 and labwear trey vignette), cater and the like is just fun for me to read about.

vil enjoys trey's sweets in moderation but also is aware of how trey tends to baby his underclassmen to a fault; or like how jade, similar to trey, is a planner, but unlike trey, jade enjoys it more if things don't go according to plan; or with cater, how trey seems to know about cater's "hidden side." all in all, it kind of seems like especially in trey's case, it's others, or his dynamic and interactions with others, that really bring out his own charm.

though this is true to some extent with every character, i feel it to be especially the case with trey specifically because his personality is considerably or relatively more "normal" compared to others, in which he kind of shows this very realistic notion that one primarily sees themselves through others. ☁️

10. What is your favorite special event (Ghost Marriage, Fairy Gala, etc.)?

HARVESTON. I LOVE HARVESTON. almost every single thing about that event, I love. the music, the outfits, the setting, the Twistunes, the foods in it, the storyline (even though it INFURIATES me at times)... I love the Harveston Sledathon event. Marja Felmier also is like a combination of my Ahma and my Nana, so I really loved her character. And the interactions between the characters - for the most point - were absolutely wonderful. I like the storyline of Camp Vargas and especially Camp Vargas 2 as well, but Harveston supercedes that by a pretty big step :)

9. What is your favorite outfit?

ohhhh, this is TRICKY. I'm going to give a few, because I'm an indecisive lad and really like a lot of the outfits in this game! (putting the rest of this under a cut because it'll be long otherwise) ♡

FIRST UP, the Octavinelle Dorm Uniform. it's clean, it's classic, but it also has some slightly unorthodox features that aren't really seen in other similar suits: namely the seashell motifs and the patterned purple socks. those extra features make it a really fun outfit. I'm not counting Azul's here (even though I LOVE it, too!), because it deviates from the usual uniform.

next, the Applepoms. these are some of the coziest, loveliest outfits designed for this game, imo. they look warm, they suit everyone who has worn one, and they just are NICE!!

I also LOVE Azul's Masquerade outfit. it's beautifully detailed, the colours are perfect, and it's an incredibly flattering design. even just the lace on the front of the bodice is gorgeous!!

Che'nya's... I guess RSA Uniform (??) is REALLY good, too. I love all the designs and details, from the colours, to the patches, to the belt, to the boots, to his jewellery. it's a DELICIOUS outfit ♡

and finally - for this post, at least, because I could go on and on and on about other outfits - Cater's Playful Dress outfit. I know that this event is still to be released on the EN server, but GOSH if this isn't a great outfit ♡ the little diamond motifs, the cut of the jacket, the colour scheme, the BOOTS?? it just looks so damn good on him!!

I could continue with a NUMBER of other outfits (Pomefiore Dorm uniforms, STYX uniforms, the Apprentice Chef uniforms, Riddle's Suitor Suit, a number of the Halloween/Scary Dress costumes, etc.), but I'll stop here ^w^

Grim: Y'know, maybe my genius ain't just in eatin' food, but makin' em, too.

Grim: Back when you and me took the Master Chef course, I thought all this work was a pain, but…

Grim: Now I'm thinkin' that it was good we did it. 'Cause now tasty things can be made into even tastier things!

Grim: Myahaha! Thanks to this cake, today's party's gonna be the cat's meow!

Grim: Ah! But that annoying guy Trein is gonna be there… He might get mad if I get too excited.

Grim: Maaan, he's always findin' things to nag me about. Like the other day, he tried scolding in me when I was runnin' in the halls.

Grim: It pissed me off, so I tried pokin' fun at him, but then he just came at me!

Grim: Obviously I ran, but that old man is faster than he looks…

Grim: And then he just caught me in no time, I wasn't expecting that. Just nabbed me by the neck.

Grim: "Try to be a bit more like Lucius," he said… But I ain't a cat, y'know!

Grim: Don't know if Trein snitched on me or what, but even Crewel got mad at me, saying "Stop causing problems."

Grim: But then Crewel whispered later, "If you're going to tease Trein-sensei, make sure you don't get caught."

Grim: Myahaha! Crewel might be a teacher, but sometimes he's got a wicked side. He gets me.

Grim: …Though, he can be a huge stickler if ya mess around in class or get bad grades.

Grim: I remember the other day was pretty scary. He had us all lined up in a row, and was grilling everyone on who spilled the chemicals on the table…

Grim: No one fessed up, and Ace and Deuce were silently keepin' their heads down, so I stayed quiet too.

Well, we all got held responsible, in the end.

Grim: Tch. Trein and Crewel are both way too strict!

Grim: I like Vargas's class the best. 'Cause I don't need to take difficult notes in his class!

Grim: Like the other day, he started going on and on, saying, "If you want to be a great mage, then you need to have muscles as rippling as mine!" or whatever…

Grim: I was just nodding along, and then class ended with just him talkin' about his own muscles. Myahaha, waaaay too easy～

Grim: …Hm? Wait a mo'.

Grim: Do you think… The reason that Vargas showed up here randomly one morning a few days ago to go exercise together…

Grim: DID HE THINK I WANTED TO TRAIN WITH HIM BECAUSE I WAS NODDING DURING ALL HIS BOASTING!?

Grim: The sun wasn't even up, it was still dark, so that was a real pain!!

Grim: …Man, I think I might like Crewel or Trein better after all, ‘cause they don't cause me problems.

Grim: Y'know, now that I think about it, all the profs here are really strange… Is this school really alright?

Grim: Oh. But I think the strangest guy ain't one of the teachers, but Sam. I'm sure of it!

Grim: And that's cause… Remember the other day when I lost at rock-paper-scissors and I had to go buy snacks by myself?

Grim: Before I even got inside the store, I heard Sam talkin' with someone inside.

Grim: But… When I got inside, he was all alone.

Grim: When I asked who he was chattin' with, he said his "friends on the other side," but… WHAT DOES HE MEAN FRIENDS ON THE OTHER SIDE!?

Grim: He wouldn't tell me no matter how many times I asked. It's so eerie. But man, he's got a ton of cool stuff for sale, so I keep going back.

Grim: I remember then, too, before I could say what I wanted, he already had out the perfect number of snacks I had money for.

Grim: Oh yeah, and Crowley came in the shop right after me. Looks like he's always shoppin' at the Mystery Shop, too.

Grim: He started braggin' to me that he gets to order whatever he wants.

Grim: So I told him I wanted some special tuna cans then, and he says, "This privilege is for teachers only!"

Grim: He just kept on bragging, he's the worst! Crowley's so useless!

We should be thankful, since he let us attend here.

Grim: THANKFUL!? He should be thanking me for gracing this school with my genius!

Grim: And I bet Crowley'd gobble down the whole feast we got prepped if I take my eye off him for even a second…

Grim: No way I'm gonna give him a single bite. This time I'll make sure he's jealous of me.

Grim: Hey, [Yuu]. You 'n me're gonna protect this cake with our lives!

Grim: I might not be able to rely on you to do everythin' yourself, so good things we also got those ghosts.

Grim: If all us Ramshackle folk work together, we could even take on two Crowleys. We'll stun him silent!

Grim: I bet the ghosts're feelin' real alive right now. They were really getting' excited for Founding Day.

Grim: They were all, "It's so wonderful everyone is throwing a party here at Ramshackle～"

Grim: They also said that everything's getting' amped up 'cause we came to Ramshackle.

Grim: Myahaha. So that means… All the fun and happy times are all thanks to me!
