Other fun thought I remembered to discuss. I like how Rex looks up to and idealised most of the adults around him and takes part of them into his sense of self. Corinne likely impacted his cheerful and helpful personality, as he wanted to become like her and help those around him.

The second most important person in his life is definitely Azurda (or Gramps, as he likes to call him). Azurda becomes his parental figure alongside Corinne, and Rex wants to become a man who can pay back the ones he loved who helped me grow into the kind of person he currently is.

Rex misses his parents, even if he never knew them. He knows they wouldn't want him to be wallowing in his own sorrow and it's why he focuses on trying to become someone others can look up to. He struggles to show weakness, as he feels like it's disrespecting those who sacrificed themselves for him.

This is why Vandham's death, another man he looked up to as a parental figure. Affected him so hard. Rex spent most of his life being someone whose loved ones died to protect him. He feels that unless he becomes someone who can silently suffer and help those around him; they died in vain.

Rex, even post Xenoblade 2, took a lot of himself based on Vandham especially. Despite the short time he knew him, Vandham impacted him strongly, and he wants to respect the man who died to protect him and his dream of Elysium.

Morag and Zeke also became older figures who shaped Rex into the man he later became. Rex is a person who loves to please those around him, even at the cost of himself. It's due to this he struggles with his own self perception and had to shape himself through his experiences with the others he met.

Rex's fighting style and clothing sense is inspired by both Zeke and Morag by the time of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 also. He looks up to them both and takes their power into his own. It depicts how much his allies play into Rex's strength and the way he inspires those who come to idealise him also.

It's due to this that Rex, as he is during Xenoblade 3 is like an ultimate representation of a man who lives not for himself but for others. It's both tragic but also realistic that he still has self image issues from his experiences.

Despite that, Rex became a man who could help others and does inspire everyone around him. He even saved Malos and Jin at the end of their lives by opening their eyes to what they had and the good they achieved during their lives. I love this man so much.

“ghondor, don't.” you softly whispered, as you noticed your girlfriend growing more tense.

ghondor never much liked your friends. they always seemed too friendly with you, as if they had some ulterior motive. she couldn't stand just sitting around here, watching you laugh and talk with those friends of yours who likely wanted to be much more than just your friend.

“you're mine. and if i have to remind them of that, i'll happily do it…” ghondor muttered under her breath, making you roll your eyes and smile amused.

“they're just being friendly, so don't be so paranoid.”

I hope you like this as much as I loved writing it! 🩷

Between the mercenaries and even in the village everyone helps each others and do their part to have a good life, like a big family, Vandham isn't stranger of being part of a family, still once he end up forming a family in his own he will make sure to take the responsability with the respect and seriousness that it must be taken

It doesn't really matter if you are his biological child or you were adopted, that won't change at all the way he treats you nor how much he actually loves you (also, if you are adopted and he got to know your real parents he will make sure to tell you about them once you are old enough)

Vandham will try to stay there for you as much as posible as you grow up, specially during your first years of life, when you need him the most, he wants to be there to take care of you and teach you all he knows, being there for when you start to walk or just slowly teach you to be more independent (he doesn't normally admiting it out loud much but his heart melt everytime you learn something new, still he doesn't deny how happy and proud he is of his child)

No matter what age you are Vandham will always prefer if you stay in the village while he has to attend his work with the mercenaries, after all he doesn't want to put you at risk, still he is incredibly caring and protective so he make sure you stay with someone he knows he can trust with his life to watch over you (even if you aren't too young anymore he still can't help but want to protect you)

Just as the mercenaries are close enough to feel like a big family you are also treated like part of their group too, no matter your age or even if you don't intent to become a mercenary like them, they always welcome you with a smile and most of them are always up to tell you stories about your father (he normally insist that is nothing or that they shouldn't be bragging about such things but he is visibly happy and proud whenever you express admiration towards him or simply get excited by the stories)

Despite being a mercenary Vandham doesn't expect you to become one just because of him, you should grow stronge and happy so you can choose your path once you are old enough, and he make sure you know that, still he makes sure you learn how to fight and defend yourself even if you prefer to grow to have a more peaceful life you need to know how to defend yourself, Vandham isn't pesimist but he is realistic, he likes to think that he will be there for you always but knows that something can happen to him (specially for being a mercenary) so he make sure you learn what to do to defend yourself or in emergency situations

Also, he makes sure you learn the importance of being someone with honor and values, someone who doesn't necesary becomes a hero but that will be there to protect what you care for. But even when he takes every oportunity he has to teach you something he also learn to simply relax and play with you when you ask him to (and when he doesn't have much work, even so it take too much will power from him to say no when he is busy and you want to spend time with him or simply play)

Vandham grows to be a really good father, he may used to be a bit clumsy while taking care of you when you were just a baby but with time he grow to be better and better, he is protective and caring but also is willing to let you choose your own path in live, at the end Vandham will be really proud of you, no matter if you just make a small improvement or if you finally achive your life goal he will always be proud of you

Zeke is one of my favourite characters in Xenoblade 2, he initially is portrayed as a 'Team Rocket' esque character who fights the team for unknown reasons early on. Mid game, it's revealed that he's actually the prince of Tantal and he was testing them before going to Indol.

I love that despite his goofy nature, he's arguably the most combat ready of the group. Outside of Rex, who gains more skill the older he gets and the longer he spends time with Pyra and Mythra. Zeke's skills are automatically respected by Rex.

Rex in turn, begins to admire Zeke in a way he did Vandham. He becomes an older brother type figure to the group as a whole. I love that he instead of despairing at his issues and fate decides to escape from that and try to be as free and true to his real self as possible.

Zeke may be the prince, but he had to earn his role due to his father not respecting his individualistic nature, as Tantal is a closed off society which refuses to evolve and progress. Zeke is the antithesis of what his father Grisha desires for his heir.

Much like Nia, who as a Flesh Eater still has royal heritage and later becomes a ruler in her own right. Zeke is a Blade Eater. He suffers discrimination due to his body but because of this, he can understand the common folk better than those who never suffered in their lives.

Zeke would be in another game the protagonist, but here he's the mentor figure to Rex and guides him on his journey and showing him a life that Rex desire for himself. God, I love this goofy man so much.

“i know how selfish i sound…”

matthew sighed softly, as he held your face in his hands, who were rough from all the fighting. you had rarely ever seen him this serious, making you almost worry about him. but even matthew could be serious. and he was serious about you.

“please, never look at anyone else ever again. just keep your eyes on me. that's all i want…”

his words were sweet and despite his request being selfish, you couldn't reject him. after all, you loved him. matthew was the only one you'd ever want to be with.

“you're the only man i'd ever want to look at, believe me…” you whispered softly and pressed a kiss onto matthew's lips. “i'll only ever have eyes for you, i promise.”
