Secret (Hidden) vs. Secretive/Classified

An important distinction to make while writing exclusive societies is the extent to which they shirk the eyes of the public and/or government:

“Secret” or “Hidden” societies push their existence under the rug. No one but the members know of their activities at all. (e.g. Camp Half-Blood from the Percy Jackson series, the wizarding society of the Harry Potter series)

“Secretive” or “classified” societies exist publicly with a clear purpose. However, the specifics of their activities are only disclosed to his members. (e.g. the CIA, higher-ranked military organizations)

While secret societies are often illegal, rebellious, or anarchist, secretive societies are legal and institutional. 

Here are some other elements that I think a secret society requires. The specifics of how these are implemented will depend on the size of your society. 

The Origin Story 

What is the society’s motto? Who created it? Why do the members/the public need it? 

A goddess creates a secret society of demigods to protect them from monsters. 

A professor creates a secret society to teach illegal materials to his best students. 

A society of the undead striving for survival on Earth after the

Membership Requirements & Rules

How many newbies? How are they recruited? Any consequences if prospective members fail? Any initiation practices? Consequences for breaking the rules? 

Inheriting a particular bloodline: demigods, half-angels/demons, royal blood, etc. 

Becoming a supernatural creature: vampire, zombie, werewolf, etc. 

A rigorous interview/testing process (could be similar to a job interview)

Sending prospective members on a dangerous mission 

Existing members paying prospective members a visit in the middle of the night

Sending out dream messages and instructions for initiation constantly until potential members are obliged to come.

The Cover-Up Story 

How does your society keep itself hidden? How do they cover up for their mistakes if classified information leaks out? 

Killing any witnesses and outsiders. 

Exerting control over media/news/government organizations (either back-door or legally)

Using a magical cover: memory-redaction, mist/veil that manipulates appearances, etc. 

The power bestowed by the society upon their members are immediately withdrawn upon excommunication or if they break rules 

The cover-up story has to be stronger for larger, ancient secret societies to make it plausible that they’ve managed to survive hidden. Think of strong mechanisms that makes it the members’ own interests to keep the society protected, even though it may cost them their life. 

Funding and Maintenance

Where does the society get its money/weapons/materials from? 

Generational wealth that the members’ family possess. 

Secret governmental/university funding, obtained under someone else’s name

Having members who are placed in high-ranking position in companies, banks, the government, etc. 

Could be as simple as a trust fund/endowment fund run under a fake name (e.g paper company, a fake family name that is handed down from one society leader to another)

DP Crossover Angst Week Day 1 - GIW Experimentation

Summary: Sam and Dean take up a job to go investigate a government base that had been attacked by vampires.

Warnings: vague descriptions of blood and gore

Notes: hmmm, I have never written anything for Supernatural before, but I've seen a good portion of it (years ago). Probably takes place earlier in the show.

Sam and Dean had gotten this particular lead from Bobby, who in turn got it passed onto him from someone else, so it wasn’t a surprise this particular job was a mess. 

Apparently, a group of vampire’s had decided a weird, underground, government bunker would be the perfect hideout, resulting in a bloodbath between the government goons and the vamps. It was a large group too, which was a point of concern among the hunter’s who turned down the job. No one really knew who’d won inside between the vampires and the government, but Dean had placed his money on the vampires. He honestly doubted that some government agency with an obsession for the color white had any idea what they were up against, much less the correct tools for the job. Dean got proved wrong when they came across the first dead vampire. 

The bunker’s fluorescent lights were harsh against the darkness outside. The entire base still seemed to have power despite not being connected to any sort of power grid or system. It had made it an absolute pain in the ass to find, but at least that meant Sam and Dean didn’t have to wander around in the dark. The harsh lighting and bleached interior revealed a slaughter inside, staining the white walls with both vampire and human blood, leaving very little to imagination. The humans, all agents in once-white suits, looked to have been mauled by the vamps, while the dead vampires had holes blasted through them and were covered in green-tinged burns. Dean kicked one, trying to make sure it was actually dead. Yep, dead vamp, the whole place unfortunately smelled like it too. 

Sam had found one of the more physically intact agents with a large bazooka-like weapon next to him at the back of the hallway. Rummaging through the agency's pocket’s Sam tossed the ID card over for Dean to read over, while Sam picked up the weapon. 

Dean flipped open the wallet, and huffed when the agent was only referred to by a letter and position. No personal information whatsoever. 

“This asshole is apparently ‘Agent B, senior heavy weapon specialist of the Ghost Investigation Ward’, which means shit to me,” Dean complained. 

“‘Ghost Investigation Ward’? Is that supposed to be some sort of knockoff hunter’s group? Because points for vampire killing, less points for dying,” Sam added. “Either way, they were messing around with something supernatural, and had weapons that could blast straight through a vampire. Think we could find something here?”

Dean shrugged, “I’m down to take their weapons at the least. New tactics are always appreciated.”

Sam took the bazooka, and Dean picked up any other weapons of interest, from weighted nets, to more guns, storing them in piles to collect and ferry to the car later. The ID got them access to a couple more rooms, including a security camera and file room, which Sam said he was going back to later. The deeper they descended into the base, the more spaced out the bodies were, and the more violently the agents had seemed to fight, like they were protecting something. 

“Do you think they actually managed to catch a ghost here?” Sam tossed out. 

Dean snorted, “Doubt it. Sure, you can blast a hole through a vamp, but you can’t blast a hole through a ghost. Just trapping one is a pain, let alone moving it to the middle of bumfuck nowhere, Illinois.” 

Hydraulic doors hissed as the brothers entered the next level, only to pause from the sudden change in pattern. This one opened up into a laboratory, partitioned off by thick glass walls, rather than the collection of offices and storage the upper floors had been.  

Dean’s eyes narrowed at the carnage inside the laboratories. 

“What the hell were they taking apart that bleed fucking green?” Dean cursed.

Dean completely ignored the bodies of who he assumed had been the scientists. There were tons of vials of various liquids, most of them being that same saturated, radioactive green. There were also jars, lots of jars, of what he assumed were the bits and pieces of whatever creature bled green. 

“Doesn’t look like whatever they were dissecting was dead while they were taking apart,” Sam commented, pointing out the restraints on the bloodied autopsy table. 

“Fuck, that’s sick. At least kill whatever you're taking apart first.” 

Dean watched as Sam went over to a stack of papers, filing through them quickly with a grimace on his face.

 “Well, they seem to believe they caught a ghost, at least. They definitely caught something before the vampires wiped them out. The reports refer to it as Subject P-1.”

“Think it’s still here?” Dean asked. 

“Maybe. This report is a few days old, and we know the vampires attacked within that same time frame, so it’s possible that ‘P-1’ is either still here, dead here, or managed to escape in the crossfire,” Sam guessed.

“I suppose we’ll find out. We only got one more level to go.”

Dean left the lab, going down the elevator to the last level. There was nothing there, except for a singular glass cell with what looked like a blast door as its entrance, all shining with some sort of green energy. There seemed to be automated weapons and cameras all pointing at the cell, and Dean considered it a bit extreme. But also down there was the biggest collection of dead vampires they had found so far. 

The weapons in the room had obviously activated for whatever reason, considering the number of vampires with holes blown through them compared to the agents, of which there only seemed to be two, who looked more like they had also been caught in the crossfire of the weapons, rather than becoming vampire food like most of the guys upstairs.  

“Dean…” Sam shoved him, and pointed to the cell. There was…something inside. 

Dean walked over, shoving bodies out of the way with his foot to stand in front of the cell. The green… whatever it was, shone along the glass and hummed with energy, reminding Dean vaguely of an electrified fence. The inside of the cell was a mess but in a different way than outside. It reminded Dean of a few of the cells he had seen monsters hold people in before. It was dirty, and covered in blood, both red and that unknown green. There was no cot, or toilet, or any other sort of accommodation. 

The only thing in the cell was a small figure, dressed in nothing but tattered scrubs, and covered in its own blood balled up in the corner, head between its legs. Dean could only make out pale, emancipated legs and feet, and a mess of matted, black hair. 

“Is it alive?” Dean asked, tapping on the glass, which surprisingly didn’t zapped him.

Sam had a grimace on his face. “I…think.”

“Hey!” Dean shouted. 

No reaction. 

Dean pounded more heavily on the glass with his fist, “Hey! Are you alive?”

No reaction. 

“Are you P-1?” Sam asked instead. 

This got a reaction. The figure picked up their head, placing empty, hollow, and frighteningly blue eyes on Sam. They seemed to be a young boy, face pale and thin, deep bags under his eyes. His eyes were glassy and distant, looking through Sam rather than at him. 

“Well, that’s unnerving,” Dean muttered, giving Sam a look before shoving his shoulder. “Tell him to do something else.”

Sam frowned, thinking for a moment before saying anything. “P-1, state your status,” Sam commanded. 

The boy, P-1, remained silent.

“I don’t think it talks, Sammy,” Dean snorted. 

Sam sputtered indignantly. “What do you want me to do then? We know he’s P-1 now, and that he’s still somehow alive.”

“Well, we know he ain’t human, and that he’s whatever these goons have been picking apart. No clue what he is, but in that state, I doubt he can do much. The lights are one but no one seems to be home, Sammy,” Dean said. 

It was a harsh suggestion but, “We could just put him down and be done with it. The vamps are all dead, there’s nothing here except braindead P-1 over there.”

Sam, apparently, very much disagreed with that idea. “He’s a kid, Dean! And he’s been tortured for who knows how long. We’re not putting him down!”

Dean groaned. “Do you want to take him with us or something?!” Dean asked incredulously. 

Sam was silent, apparently thinking over the idea like it was a legitimate suggestion. 

“No,” Dean immediately denied. “Nope, no way, Sammy. We’re not adopting whatever-the-fuck that kid is. He’s not a dog. We have no idea what he’s capable of, let alone if he’s dangerous!” 

 “Then we keep an eye on him! You said it yourself, in that state, I doubt he can barely move. We could even put him in Bobby’s panic room if he acts up, but honestly,” Sam glanced over to the boy, “I doubt he would even notice.”

Dean hated the idea. He didn’t want the kid to potentially go ballistic, and there had to be some reason he was locked up in the first place. But he couldn’t think of any other reasons to leave the kid there. If anything, they could figure out what the kid was so that they knew how to defeat anything like him in the future. 

“Fine!” Dean relented. “But you’re taking care of him.”

Sam seemed to untense and turned back to the boy. “P-1, move to the door,” he ordered, before more quietly adding, “We’re getting you out of here, kid.”

The boy stood up, swaying on his legs, before approaching the door, standing just outside of it. Dean watched as Sam fidgeted with the door, before eventually having to pull another ID from one of the nearby agents to get the door open. Sam led the kid out, who didn’t have much of a reaction at all. Dean frowned at how small the kid was, now that he could get a better estimate literally standing next to him. He couldn’t be older than 12. 

“Okay, we’re leaving. We got some cool things and you’ve adopted a weird kid. We can confirm the vampires all died here too. Anything else we need to grab before we go back?” Dean huffed. 

“I’m going to see what I can pull from the record room on the way back. Could you take him back to the car?” Sam asked. 

Dean looked at the kid again. Yep. No one home at all. He doubted the kid even knew what was going on. At least he wouldn’t complain about Dean’s music choices. 

“Fine, but you take too long and I’m leaving your ass here,” Dean stated. “Come-on, P-1.”

Dean took the elevator back up the entrance, still careful to check around if they had missed anything still-alive, only to have silence. The kid barely made any noise as he moved, Dean decided he didn’t like that after the third time he jumped at the kid standing directly behind him. 

“I’m getting you a bell,” he grumbled. 

Back at the car, Dean tossed his looted weapons into the trunk, glancing at the kid before rummaging into his and Sam’s duffles for some spare clothes. It looked really suspicious to have a bloodied kid in a medical gown walking around. It would be oversized, but Dean grabbed a flannel, jeans, and a belt. Bobby would probably have something from when he and Sam were that small. 

“Hey, kid, P-1, put these on,” Dean held the clothes out to the kid, who didn’t react. 

Dean groaned. “Oh come on! This is why Sam’s your caretaker. I don’t know how to dress a kid!” 

Dean approached. “Gotta fucking command him like a dog,” he muttered. “P-1, arms up.”

The boy raised his arms, and Dean untied the medical gown letting it fall to the ground. Dean froze, bile building in the back of his throat, fighting the urge to throw up. Images of the jars and vials passed behind his eyes. No wonder the kid was mentally gone, Dean couldn’t see anyone surviving, let alone living long enough to walk out.

God, they needed to get the kid to Bobby.

BSD: An Absurdist Analysis - Ch. 114.5

Fyodor: The Unkillable Devil

So, I was mostly correct in my speculations from last month's chapter! I'm really proud of this, though I will admit that my theory wasn't a complete match to what ended up happening

I assumed that Fyodor took on the guard's lifeforce, but it was Bram who he body-swapped with, which makes for a much for interesting (and higher stakes) situation.

Admittedly, this post is going to be a bit less analysis and more me sharing my thoughts and questions, because not much has changed from what I said last month: Fyodor being practically unkillable is the ultimate absurdity for him as a villain -- how do you defeat a literally immortal super genius?

It's just made even worse now by the fact that it is Bram's body who he's "subsuming." It puts considerable distance between himself (now in Japan) and Dazai (in France), who is the only human being capable of killing him due to his nullification. This is deeply ironic in that Dazai was so goddamn close to killing Fyodor, if only he had delivered the final blow himself, he would have succeeded. That's dramatic irony for ya!

The ultimate absurdity lies within the fact that Dazai was so close to victory the entire time; Fyodor was in genuine danger throughout the whole prison break thing (because either poison or Dazai could have actually killed him), but one lapse in judgement has now left Dazai relatively powerless.

There is also absurdity in the fact that Fukuawa, Fukuchi, Aya, and Teruko are basically incapable of stopping Fyodor not only from subsuming Bram's body, but from carrying out his plan with the tripolar singularity. They don't even have enough time to enact a last-ditch effort to stop him before he stabs Fukuchi.

Jumping back to the reveal of Fyodor's ability, this chapter has left me with some questions about Fyodor's plan:

Why allow Sigma to learn of this? I see no really good reason for why Fyodor didn't kill Sigma when given the chance. The only thing I can think of is that he wanted to distract Dazai, ultimately knowing that he would eventually go back for Sigma and try to figure out why he was passed out, killing some time. Still, this doesn't really make much sense to me, as killing Sigma would have done practically the same thing. Also, at that point, there's really no reason to distract Dazai, the deed has already been done. My only other idea is that he figured that once he was able to subsume Bram, it wouldn't matter if Dazai knew about his ability, so he allowed Sigma to obtain this information in order to let Dazai know of his loss. Still, this doesn't make any strategic sense in the way that keeping Dazai in the dark for as long as possible appears to be the optimal course of action.

Does Nikolai know about Fyodor's ability? If so, it would explain the usage of the poison in the prison break challenge, given that his ultimate goal is to kill Fyodor. It might also explain why he considers them to be "besties," because he's one of very few people who know the true nature of Fyodor's ability. This is complete speculation, though, as it could really go either way.

Did Fyodor know Chuuya was faking it the whole time? Because if not, I think Chuuya was his fallback plan. If he truly believed Chuuya to be a vampire controlled by Bram, then at any point he could have ordered him to kill him, but I think the only thing that stopped him from doing so was his desperation to have Dazai killed as the only person capable of actually taking his life. If he did indeed know Chuuya was just acting, though, I wonder if he had just thought far enough ahead to know how things would go and needed Chuuya to be present to get to that conclusion. I'm really curious as to how much of this plan was actual foresight and how much was improvisation.

As for the tripolar singularity... well I think we know where that leads, given that the anime gave us a little preview to future events.

I'll admit that the concept of the singularity is one of the things I least understand about the BSD lore/universe, but this certainly raises the stakes. I might be wrong about this, but aren't there theories that somehow Akutagawa and Atsushi's abilities combined are able to supersede singularities? In this way, they'd be the only hope against Tripolar Singularity Fukuchi (which I've got to assume works much like Arahabaki in that Fukuchi is not in control anymore).

We also now can now assume that Akutagawa (and assumedly anyone else who was turned into a vampire) becomes un-vampirified because Bram ceases to exist when Fyodor takes on his body, so this explains how we get to the above situation.

Edit: Ok so of course almost immediately upon posting this I thought of more things to add in terms of how this all relates to absurdism. The concept of Fyodor being unable to die is not only absurd from the storytelling perspective of him being BSD's ultimate villain for so long, but also on a personal level for himself.

One of humanity's defining qualities is mortality -- the idea that we all die eventually, whether we like it or not. For Fyodor, this isn't true, though. His ability is a curse that traps him into living so long as people try to kill him. This further explains his ultimate motive of wanting to eliminate all abilities, probably because he recognizes many abilities to be curses and also that abilities have potential to be abused by those in power, whether for "right" or "wrong" reasons.

The irony in this is that Fyodor is doing just that, he has used his ability to remain alive far longer than he should have, and is thus able to carry out his plans. Yes, he believes what he is doing is for the good of humanity, but as the reader, we also know that this is not his decision to make. He has become the very thing he's trying to fight! This can be seen as Fyodor giving into the absurdity of reality, rather than actually rebelling against it, which makes him the antagonist to our absurdist protagonists, who refuse to give in and continue to push back against life's absurdities.

Fyodor's problem (and I think I talked about this in the chapter where he "died") is that he wants to control the absurd reality, but that is just not possible. You can't control meaninglessness, all you can do is not become a part of it, which Fyodor fails to do in his effort to not do so. It's a complete paradox.

Hopefully what I'm saying here makes sense, I am currently running on like five hours of sleep (which not a lot for me) and black tea lol

When a new situation came to Karlheinz's attention, he saw Christine could be the key to solving what was about to come to the Demon World.

That summer he offers her a good salary pay to work as a housekeeper at the Mukami’s Mansion in Japan. The payment was too good to pass on. She accepts the job not knowing that they are vampires. She will find out and he made sure that escaping will cost the lives of her loved ones back home. Before he can go through this new plan, Christine needs to interact with the Mukami brothers, Yui, and his sons first.

Until then, He will let them all have their little fun. Till the time comes for his plan to be ready.

I've been a fan of Hans Zatzka’s fantasy paintings since I was a little girl. I love the entire aesthetic of Nature, Fairies, Angels, Rivers, Flowers, Dresses, and Romance. He includes all these in his paintings.

Even though Azusa and Christine’s story is not a fantasy fairytale. I still wanted this inspiration for the cover because three weeks before Azusa met Christine. His dreams were in a world that looked like Hans Zatzka's Paintings. The dress that Christine is wearing on the art cover is the dress that she was always wearing when she appeared in Azusa’s dreams. It's also a dress that I chose from Zatzka's Paintings.

I chose this one because of the blue waist ribbon. This same exact shade of blue is Azusa’s color representation from Rejet.

So I used this as a hidden symbol that she is his. 🔪🌹

For him, I choose an official art by Rejet. I wanted an outfit to represent that he is a vampire.

Why the year 2022?

That year I was in a Dark place mentally and was very depressed. Some of my dark issues, I wrote it through Christine. They say writing is a good way to heal. So part of this Fan Fiction story has been my healing process.

That's why I am so passionate about this ship. Christine and Azusa are my comfort characters. Both of them make me happy.

He starts to panic and have a flashback to the incident. Wolfwood helps comfort him and ground him back to reality.

Everlasting Spark ~MANIAC: Prologue~

A/N: Author's Note on top for once Hi I'm alive and back with the continuation of this storyyy~ It's been a hot minute, because it took me ages to find the energy for editing. As always, the general warnings of my blog apply, but I will also tag the chapters accordingly, please see the "tags in use" for more information. Thanks and have fun!

The Mukami manor was different from the Sakamaki mansion.

For one, the people there seemed to actually like each other. They enjoyed their meals together and cooked together and they all did their separate chores too. To say that it made Chiyo feel uneasy was an understatement. It was so hard to believe that people could eat their lunch in perfect peace, without hating each other, the only disruption being the occasional whining from Kou that he would rather eat Vongole Bianco than whatever else the meal plan said. A meal plan! These people had a meal plan! And they followed it! Granted, most of the time it consisted of soup, and she really did not like soup that much, but the point was still standing.

Chiyo regretted stepping foot inside as soon as she found out she had to play along with all of that. She had never cleaned anything in her entire life. She also wasn’t talented at cooking, as her cooking sessions with Yui had proven previously. Having to be responsible for a house was such a pain, Chiyo wished she could just go back home to her father, and that had to mean something!

Oh, and there was also the case of Edgar walking among the living now, too. Only that his name wasn’t Edgar anymore; it was Yuma, and he was a Vampire! This had come to be yet another mystery she had to uncover if nobody else felt obligated to. She wondered how Reiji felt about it, how did he sleep at night knowing that what he had planned so meticulously all those years ago failed so miserably? Personally, Chiyo did not sleep that great, but that had been the case for a long time already. The things just kept on piling up like that.

Setting fire to that human village at the border to the demon world and killing Edgar was probably one of his prouder moments in life, being able to take away something so dear to Shuu. Something dearer to Shuu than she had ever been… or would ever be. Thinking back on it she had been a stupid child back then. Not only had she trusted Reiji with his top-secret lunatic plan, but she also had faith in him actually getting the job done, and now look where it got them! Everyone hated each other and Edgar was not even dead! She probably would have had more luck trying to assassinate the boy in his sleep herself, not that she would have ever done it. The thought of killing someone hadn’t exactly manifested itself in her mind before Reiji planted the seed for it in her brain. She hadn’t even been aware of him wanting to burn the village down until she arrived there herself and saw it with her very own eyes. Sometimes she still felt like she could smell the burned human flesh from afar. Needless to say, grilled meat was not exactly her favorite meal from that time on.

She sighed to herself as she attempted to clean some dishes. She had already broken a plate or two and had been scolded by Ruki for it. Luckily everyone agreed not to let her near a cooking pot anytime soon – for safety’s sake. Even with her semi-arsonist background she was not looking to burn a house down that had so many potential clues to the answers she was seeking. Chiyo chewed on her lip; she came here to find more information, not to play house! But Ruki did not cooperate and did not even give her an opening to dig deeper into the situation.

In general, Ruki seemed to have made a 180 in personality. He was extremely strict and demanding, and did not respect her personal space a lot. Just the other day he walked into the bathroom, not even bothering to knock, while she was getting ready for bed. Luckily, she had been mostly done by that time, so all he ended up seeing was her ugly face mask. Not to mention that he kept calling her guineapig without even offering an explanation to the weird nickname. She kept wondering whether his previous attempts at getting closer to her had been fake and only served as a means to an end. But she really had nothing of interest to offer, so either Ruki knew something about her she wasn’t aware of, or he was an idiot who liked to toy with women. At this point both options seemed valid to her. The man was an enigma and no amount of her thinking about him made it any easier to understand him.

She also was not allowed to attend school for the time being. The details were not quite clear to her, but she didn’t particularly care about going to school anyway, so she didn’t question it much. Although it did leave her quite isolated from everyone else, which on further thought was most likely the reason for it. Chiyo wondered how Yui was faring so far… and Shuu, did he miss her? Or was he glad she was finally gone? The last time she ‘spoke’ to him was back in his room, where they had kissed. She sometimes thought back on it, it was definitely better than when they ran into each other in the forest, but it still left her feeling empty and sad for the most part.

“Hey, Kitty, you’ve been rubbing that plate for a long while now, don’t you think?”

Surprised, she turned her head around, to see Kou standing next to her. Another person that did not value personal space. She did not really like the bubbly idol, because while he did bright up the place with his comments and overall personality somewhat, he still was way over the top for her. Not to mention that this shiny dazzling personality was but a persona he would put on for appearances.

“Huh? Oh…” she said, putting the plate down.

Kou let out a grumbling noise. “Seriously, when Ruki-kun brought home a stray I thought it would be more exciting. You’re so dull,” he said and eyed her critically. From the day he saw the inside of her wardrobe, he had been nothing but mean about it.

Chiyo rolled her eyes. What was it with those people always naming her after animals? And what did he mean ‘dull’? She wasn’t here as a circus attraction for him to throw peanuts at.

“In any case, I’d hurry up with this, if you don’t want him to get mad at you. But maybe you should break another plate, it’s kind of irritating that their number is uneven~”

Kou took off again and Chiyo was left alone in the kitchen. She didn’t really feel like she had a place in this house yet and it made her feel uneasy. At least back at the Sakamaki mansion she could walk around comfortably. Here she felt like a criminal for even daring to sit on a sofa, so she would spend most of her time in the room she was given upon her arrival. She liked the plant in it a lot.

She sighed when she finally put the last cup in the cupboard. Housework was dull, but at least she didn’t break anything this time. However, the plates really were at an uneven number and now that it got pointed out to her it started bothering her as well.

“Oh… Lilith… you’re still here…”

Azusa was standing in the doorway, looking a bit on edge. Chiyo would be lying if she said she wasn’t freaked out about most of his antics. She couldn’t be mean to him because he enjoyed it and asked for more. He even tried to get her to cut him with a knife once. What fun was there in bullying a person that wanted to be bullied?

“Lilith… say. Did you… see my knife laying around here… somewhere?”

Azusa for some reason had also taken a liking to calling her Lilith. This was the only hint Chiyo got that told her that these people knew more than they let on. Would she really have to seduce Ruki to find out his secrets? Would that even work? It did make her feel a little bit uneasy. At the same time, it seemed like he was the top guy in this house, calling himself master and inflicting punishment upon people if they failed to do their tasks properly, so if someone had valuable information it would be him. How utterly frustrating.

“I haven’t,” she said shaking her head slowly, focusing on the present situation again.

“If you see it… let me know...?”

“Sure…”

She watched him hurry off down the hallway. Letting out a defeated sigh she decided to exit this room as well. Just as she was about to round the corner in the opposite direction, she bumped into someone.

“Ack! Ruki—”

“Guineapig, do me a favor and do watch your step while walking,” he said. With how much she had messed up the household lately, she could hear it in his voice that he was slowly growing tired of it.

She rubbed her nose which stung a bit from where she bumped into Ruki’s chest. “Sorry…”

They stood there awkwardly for a second. She wasn’t sure how to act around him, ever since the situation on the staircase. No, actually she had never known. Only that now there was also the confusion of her own heart that made it hard for her. Who was Ruki Mukami anyway? He had called himself a snake before, but the snake tempted Eve, not Lilith, that much she gathered from her brief bible discourse. Whenever he looked at her it made her skin crawl, but for some strange reason she felt herself seeking it out more and more. Something was wrong with her for sure.

“I came to see whether you were done with the dishes, but I see that you are,” he said.

“Don’t worry, your plates are fine, I spared them my rough treatment,” she said, trying to sound casual or funny about it.

Ruki apparently did not find that very amusing since he didn’t react to the joke. And she always thought she had no sense of humor. Maybe she didn’t and that’s why he wouldn’t react to her attempt at defusing the tension. Though, Chiyo had not seen Ruki laugh genuinely even as much as once since she started living here, and that was a little bit unsettling. Shuu also wasn’t one to laugh often, but she had witnessed it in the past, at least.

“You broke enough as is, I hope this will not be a common occurrence or I will really have to punish you, until you learn your lesson,” he said.

Chiyo’s face contorted in distaste. He really was all about that master of the house thing. A little bit too intense for her taste. She wondered what a punishment from Ruki would entail, but then decided she’d rather not know. Although she was yet to find the Mukami torture chamber, if they even had one.

“You look like you are thinking up filth… or are you that disappointed you will not be getting a punishment?” he asked, slightly amused.

“W-what? No!” she protested.

Chiyo’s eyes widened in shock and her face felt like it was burning up. Being punished sounded bad enough as it was, and she wasn’t exactly into that type of play… was she? She hated how Ruki made her doubt herself in even the aspect of her life she thought she had figured out and under control!

Ruki eyed her with a curious look on his face, barely hiding his amusement. He looked as if he was thinking about something while he studied her face, though he didn’t voice any of those thoughts. As he made his way to the kitchen, Chiyo anxiously followed.

The tall Vampire investigated the cabinet that they used to store all the plates in. Then he looked back at her. Chiyo didn’t like the way this was going, and she was sure the look on her face was one of pure horror by now.

“Now that I think about it, this odd number of plates does irk me. You will be a good guineapig and make up for it.”

This man never failed to trigger the flight instinct in her. She took a step back and bumped into the kitchen counter, knocking over a box of sugar. Ruki sighed.

“Clean this up. I expect you to come straight to my room once you are done with that,” he said.

She wanted to protest, but something in the eyes of this man told her that it was best not to argue.

“Do not dawdle,” he said and left her alone with the mess she had made.

Chiyo watched him walk out of the kitchen and sighed. Just what was wrong with her? She wasn’t feeling like herself ever since she had left the Sakamaki mansion and started spending her time here.

She started to be increasingly jumpy and clumsy. That never used to happen to her before; was Ruki making her this nervous? Her heart sure was feeling as if it was going to jump out through her throat whenever she interacted with him. Or was it because she wasn’t used to doing housework? She really wanted to leave again, but she also really wanted to find out more about the mystery surrounding her, Yui and, apparently, both Vampire families. Lately she was starting to think that maybe Shuu was correct all along in saying that his father liked to spin fate however he pleased. Did he send her those dreams about Lilith? Was that even in his powers to do? How much power did the Vampire King have anyway? She never succeeded in grasping the extent of his powers.

She shook her head and sighed. What did it even matter? Maybe she should just give up and go back; she never had this strange dream again afterwards, so maybe it was just that? A simple weird dream? Pure coincidence that it was also strangely biblical and just like Yui’s dream proclaiming her as Eve?

No… these guys knew something she didn’t, and she wanted to find out what at least, since she already went through the trouble of coming here.

She tidied the counter from all the sugar and made her way to Ruki’s room reluctantly.

After evening practice finally ends, Andrew trudges his way through showering and getting dressed. And when they get back to The Tower, he sits in the stairwell for a moment. He’s not sure he’s got the energy to talk with his angel tonight. Andrew is bone tired. Both from the fatigue that comes with actually participating in practice and from the knowledge that Neil is a just very pretty hallucination.

Hallucination or not, he’s waiting for Andrew upstairs. Andrew debates for a moment. Who is he to deny himself such company? He pulls himself to his feet and heads up.

Neil is waiting right outside the door, bouncing on the balls of his feet. “Did you see me at practice? I waved.”

“I saw you,” Andrew nods. What does that say for his mental state? Andrew wonders where else Neil will pop up now that he isn’t confined to the roof. Should he inform Betsy of this development? About the roaming angel in his head?

“I’m glad.” Neil beams. Then he laughs. “Fuck. You were magnificent, Andrew.”

“Magnificent, huh?” Andrew says with a low sigh. He starts to light a cigarette and Neil nods.

I hope that beginners or anyone sharing my beliefs and/or interests will come across my page and have a safe time. As such, this masterpost will serve as a contents page for all of my posts, organized for easy access!

Some information about me! 

My pronouns are she/they. Within my practice, I tend to mainly focus on animism and connecting to nature. I follow the Pagan Sabbats, as they correspond with the seasons as a way to honor the Earth. I have been raised in the Appalachian mountain culture/traditions, and I’m working on exploring my newfound Sámi and otherwise Scandinavian roots. Conjure is also something that I was raised up in, and I’m hoping to be able to share some of that with anyone curious in a respectful manner. I’ll be incorporating all of this into my educational posts.

I am also a dedicated amateur historian! I love love love learning about cultural history. Diving into articles and books on the history of witchcraft and occultism is one of my favorite pastimes :)

I’m also disabled, and I love to incorporate my practice and faith into taking care of my mind, body and spirit accordingly.

Craft Info: I follow closed Appalachian mountain folk practices as my main muse of magic. This being the umbrella term for my craft, it encompasses:

My craft was passed down to me through lineage; my beautiful grandmother was a true Southern witch who kept bottles in trees and spoke to spirits in the wind. I’m overjoyed to be at a point in my life where I can continue this practice! In addition to my Appalachian craft, I am also an avid tarot reader.

Now for the important stuff: No TERFs/transphobes, racists, homophobes, closed practice bandits, or ignorance will be tolerated here. If you think all mountain people are inbred hicks, malicious rednecks, or otherwise blanket-statement bigots I also won't tolerate you being here. That energy belongs elsewhere.
