Chapter 2: Building A Maintenance Routine

Let’s girl talk about how to build a maintenance routine, how to schedule, when to book appointments + understanding medical esthetic procedures.

How to Build a Routine:

Understand yourself and your beauty needs/desires. Do you want to start getting manicures? Are there any skin concerns you want to address + treat? Any enhancements you want? Are you ready to start keeping up with your hair? Once these questions are answered you can start building a routine!

Know what services can be done at a salon or at home.

Research for the best salons and spas near you

Take note of what you learn about yourself from your appointments so you know how to keep up at home. Ex.) Your skin type, curl pattern, hair porosity, ingredients that work best for you + your skin undertone.

List out what services you want done, how often you want them done and what you’re looking to achieve after each service.

Set beauty goals and plan to save for special beauty services.

Facials:

Basic facials should be done every 4-6 weeks.

When it comes to medical spa procedures they should be done at least once a month!

Here’s a short list of my favorite medical spa treatments to gain an understanding of what they are and how they benefit you.

Hydrafacial: a non invasive procedure that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection by removing dead skin cells and impurities while simultaneously delivering moisturizing serums into the skin. (Skin type: ALL) should be done every 4-6 weeks.

Chemical Peel: a solution applied to the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells. (Skin type: ALL. Darker skin complexions can experience post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) should be done once a month.

Microdermabrasion: a minimally abrasive instrument is used to gently sand your skin in order to remove the thicker, uneven outer portion of skin. Best for light scarring, discoloration, sun damage and stretch marks. (Skin type: Skin prone to acne scars, age spots, unevenness, discoloration and sun damage.) should be done very 4-8 weeks.

PRP aka Vampire Facial: a procedure that involves drawing the clients blood, spinning it and injecting it through microneedling to increase collagen, reduce fine lines/wrinkles, improve moisture retention and enhance skin tone + texture. (Skin type: typically ACNE PRONE SKIN) should be done every few weeks and maintenance sessions are done 2-4 times a year.

Hair Removal

There are many types of hair removal procedures to invest your time and money into. Waxing, sugaring, threading, laser hair removal and electrolysis. It’s best to go in for a hair removal service when your hair is the size of a grain of rice.

Waxing: every 2-5 weeks. face, underarms and bikini can be done every 2-3 weeks. hair length should be 1/4 of an inch.

Sugaring: every 2 weeks. hair length should be at least 1/8 of an inch.

Threading: every 2-3 weeks.

Laser Hair Removal: every 4-6 weeks done in about 4-6 treatment sessions. maintenance treatments can be done once every 6-12 months.

Electrolysis: every 2-4 weeks done in about 8-12 treatments. can take any where from 8 months, 12 months and 2 years to complete the treatment.

Cosmetic Injections

Cosmetic injections tend to be a yearly treatment routine. I recommend investing in packages in order to get more treatment sessions for a certain amount of money. They can also include a free treatment. Packages can be used for medical esthetic procedures such as laser hair removal packages, body contouring packages and tattoo removal packages as well.

Participating in Botox parties are also a good way to get a discount and purchase Botox packages. I used to assist hosting botox parties which included champagne, mimosas, cute desserts and discounts for clients if they brought a friend!

Botox: once every 4 months.

Lip Filler: once every 12-18 months.

Chin Filler: once every 1-5 years.

Non Surgical Rhinoplasty: once every 6 months.

Nails

During the summer time is when I go into the nail salon more often than usual to keep my nails and toes ready for the sunshine.

Gel Manicure: every 3-4 weeks between fills.

Gel Pedicure: 2 weeks to 1 month.

Acrylic Nail Set: filled every 2-3 weeks. every 8 weeks to replace fake nails.

Hair

Your hair should be healthy and kept in good maintenance by using an effective salon routine.

Hair Color: every 4-6 weeks between each hair coloring session.

Haircut: every 6-8 weeks or every 3-4 months.

Extensions: glue and tape extensions every 4-8 weeks, sew-in extensions every 6-8 weeks and micro-link extensions every 2-3 months.

Wig Installations: every 1-6 weeks.

Other

Lash Extensions: every 2-3 weeks.

Lash Lift: every 6-8 weeks.

Lash Tinting: every 4-6 weeks.

Bow Tinting: every 4 weeks.

Brow Lamination: every 4-6 weeks.

Microblading: touch ups 1 or 2 times a year.

Appointment Layout:

Week 1: hydrafacial & extraction session.

Week 2: eyebrow wax & tint.

Week 3: hair cut & color.

PSA:

How often you get any procedures done depends on you, your budget, your skin, your hair, your nails, your stylist, your esthetician or your health care provider. Please build a beauty routine that fits you and your life style the best!

Animal symbolism is one of the most interesting forms of it for me personally, so I'd really love to learn more about your characters on that matter.

Long one because I can ramble about Solas for hours

🦂 - animal symbolism

Ermines and spiders. 

Ermine: Wealth, inheritance.

Solas inherited both his familiar and the family orchard and winery from his mother. Lady being an ermine is in part because I wanted something that could offer comfort (soft fur), and just kinda constantly be around Solas with him still being able to keep his hands free. So she most often just drapes herself over his shoulder. I also wanted something a little more posh, and whenever I try to picture Solas' mother, it's in the form of her oil painting in his study, which to me looks a lot like Da Vinci's "Lady with an Ermine".

While not associated with ermines in general, Lady is a living symbol of Solas' connection to his mother and him carrying her legacy (quite literally on his shoulders at times).

Spiders: Fear and loss.

They symbolize the goddess he reluctantly pays respect to in order to remain safe, as well as how he lost his last remaining family member. On the day of his 100th birthday (when elves in dnd are generally considered adults) Solas got the news from the servants that his father had been attacked and killed by a drider while traveling.

I'm hoping to share a bit more about Solas' father later this month.

👕 - character design symbolism/inspirations

Oh this one's a doozy.

Solas started out as the main antagonist of a one-shot I DMed, where he tricked the party into investigating the fake haunted house he had built, while telling them that it was real. He just wanted to see if it was authentic enough to trick real adventurers.

(He had all the wards in place and no one should have gotten hurt. How could he have known that the party's barbarian reacts poorly to certain types of magic.)

Anyways, that in mind, I wanted the party to be at least a little bit suspicious of him, but for the wrong reasons. So I leaned as far into the vampire esthetic as I could for him while keeping in mind that he's really just a drow with his own wine business. (Early drafts included Lady as a small white bat. I don't remember why I dropped it.)

He then later became a player character, which is where the main outfit in this piece came into play.

Solas' little haunted house stunt had made one of the party members so angry that they used a favor with Bregan D'aerthe to have him kidnapped and his memories altered so he couldn't remember that he was a wizard. For a month or so, Solas worked as a bartender.

The new outfit is pieced together from the outfit he wore during that, as well as the morning coat he wore the evening he was kidnapped (now shortened slightly for convenience).

@alienturnipp 's redesign kept the same ideas, but added some needed flair<3

Some additional notes:

- The embroidery on Solas' underdark outfit is meant to mimic shapes from the surface (stars), while looking more like spiderwebs, to allow him to fit in back home.

- The sunglasses are enchanted to project a thin layer of night around him, since his intolerance for sunlight is quite severe.

- The locket with some of his mother's hair is an heirloom and a small contingency plan on his mother's end. Just in case Solas ever becomes strong enough to potentially bring her back.

- Solas lost his original spellbook during the kidnapping. The new one is a remodeled copy of a book the party's bard stole from the haunted house and returned to him once he was free to go.

Murder Drones OCs: the Platinum 12 Crew

The series may be over, but I'm still riding that Murder Drones high. So, I figured I'd show some Oc concepts I've been working on for a while. Big shout out to @jazzstarrlight and their My Immortal and Happy Family Timeline series, you are seriously an inspiration!

Warning: apologies in advance for any noticeable errors in the art, I went traditional with these so the coloring may reveal parts of my sketch process. Plus, I'm still figuring out my scanner. And forgive my horrible handwriting.

Some Background:

These characters came from the Plat-Binary System. Specifically, the exo planet Platinum 12, known for its high concentration of platinum ores and resources. The colony on this planet was, unlike most, a drone friendly community. Humans and drones lived as equals with each other, respected and treated like fellow sentient beings. While there was no cross-marriage/dating between the two groups, they took care of and supported each other, Humans with maintenance and drones with non-human friendly tasks. The planet itself was a rather harsh place for organics, so most lived in a nearby Space Colony: the S.S. Theodosia and coordinated with groups on the planet that did the mining operations.

However, when the events of Episode 5 happened, the Colony tried to help with controlling the situation while preserving human/drone lives. This would result in working with the Cabin Fever scientist in working on a cure with the help of [REDACTED] While they did make progress, the cure code from Copper 9 became corrupted as it was being transferred out. At the same time, the System was attacked, resulting in the colony's destruction. Sending the surviving crew fleeing across the universe in search of safety. Now, I envisioned these characters to possibly make it to Tungsten 13 in the MI comic, and possibly establish the drone refuge, but that's up to Jazper and the Oracle Axolotl to decide, I won't impose.

Sera: The Leader of the Platinum 12 Survivors

While it is true that the Absolute Solver is responsible for the creation of the Disassembly Drones, I was curious what one that could control and use the Solver would be like. I also had a thought while making this. If the Solver is an Eldrich being that forms in mutated AI, then is it possible for it to mutate into different strands? Much like the virus it was originally seen as in the beginning? So I decided that she could use a different form of the Solver, hence the ability to not only use it, but the resulting bio-organic parts:

While a kind and motherly type of leader, Sera wasn't always what she is now. After the destruction of the planet Platinum 12 in the Plat-Binary System, along with the adjoining space colony, she suffered with some heavy trauma and PTSD. Driving her to the point of madness sometimes. Especially due to her memories of [REDACTED]. Many files of her past will remain REDACTED for now, at least till later in her story. One other note: her singing voice has a haunting beauty to it. Almost as if she were human..............

(EDIT: I forgot to mention this, but her style is very much a vampire hunter's esthetic. Specifically, D from the Vampire Hunter D series. If you've seen it, you'll know. If not, I highly recommend it. Especially the movie Bloodlust for the art alone!!)

Emi: The Team Mechanic and Technician

If N was a Golden Retriever, Emi here is a Mini Aussie Shepard. Full of energy and even a little insane at times. While originally loyal to CYN/Absolute Solver, she and Jak were sent into the Plat-Binary System to carry out their orders. They managed to invade the Platinum 12 space colony and react havoc among the human and drone population before being saved and stopped by [REDACTED]. After being injected with the same strand of Solver as Sera, her optics changed color as the two strands mixed. The resulting mix freed her from CYN's control, and she was free to become who she wanted to be. Dying and gaining her buns in her hair, she grew to love parts of human culture. After Platinum 12's destruction, she followed Sera and the rest of the crew as they fled across the universe to escape the following destruction. While somewhat clumsy and airheaded, they're a mechanical genius, able to repair and build almost anything. Also, the first of the group to have a canonical voice.

Jak: The Right-Hand/Tactics Expert

Jak was originally one of the top soldiers in CYN's army. Almost on par with J. He led Emi to the Plat-Binary System to destroy what remained of humanity after the fall of Earth. They first attacked the planet Platinum 12, then found a way onto the colony above it. As they attacked the colony, they were stopped by [REDACTED] and captured for study and observation. After hacking both he and Emi's systems in an effort to override CYN/Absolute Solver's control as admin, they were injected with a new strand of the Solver code. The resulting mix led to their freedom, allowing them to become who they wish. While Jak was apprehensive about joining the colony in the beginning, he soon grew to care about those who helped him. When the Solver reached the Platinum 12 colony, he swore allegiance to the colony and attempted to defend/fight back the attack, however [REDACTED] stopped him. Knocking him and the crew offline and placed in an escape pod, sent out into space before the colony was fully destroyed. Having failed his home, he swore himself to Sera and became her new loyal Right-Hand man. Helping the surviving crew as they look for a new home. The new base would be an overgrown chapel they find on another Exo planet, be it Tungsten 13 or otherwise.

HEX: The Hacker/Recon Companion

This little guy was found on another planet in the Plat-Binary System while the crew was fleeing. Sera was exploring another hidden Cabin Fever facility working with Copper 9 in an attempt to find parts of the patch code to unscramble/fix it, when one of her hunger induced episodes of madness started. While trying to get herself together, the knocked over some boxes of scrap, which landed on the little roach. Feeling guilty about that, Sera used her Solver to fix them up, like Uzi did in episode 4, but unlike the roach that left, they stuck around. Offering their help in finding any trace of the patch code. However, the hunger was growing worse. After all, her Solver is still a strand of Solver, and as a result, Sera began to crave oil from living drones. It eventually got to the point that she ended up attacking and eating not only drones, but humans on the planet. Resulting in her Solver-triggered metamorphosis. Hex sensed what was happening, and went to alert Jak and Emi. They managed to snap Sera out of her state, and they welcomed Hex into their little group. Hex tends to nestle into pockets of the crew's coats or under Sera's hat.

Fenrir: The Loyal Sentinel

The second critter to join the crew, Fen was found when the Crew came to a different planet near the end of the System. They were part of a squad that hunted down rouge drones, much like the group sent after Lexi in the My Immortal comic. However, one day, they were caught in a rockslide while chasing a drone. Suffering a crushed leg and pinned by rubble, their human handler considered them a lost cause and left with the rest of the pack, believing they would soon die. That's when Sera and the Crew find them. At first, Fen (known as Unit-F3N at the time) acted aggressively, flashing and snapping at any of the drones that got too close. Jak was more than willing to put them down for good, But Sera stopped him. She approached slowly and carefully, before using a rag to cover Fen's eyes and sedate him so she could fix them. Fen was confused and perplexed during the whole rescue to the point of being docile. Sera used her Solver to help fix their leg while Emi provided schematics and pointed out steps, watching the amount of sedation used. After the fixes were complete, the Crew backed off and released Fen, who stared at them from their safe spot for a while before running off into the wilds of the planet.

They would meet again sometime later, when the Crew gets swarmed by Sentinels while trying to find more supplies and parts of the patch code. They were battered and almost destroyed, especially Sera after using the Solver too much to the point of near corruption. Jak and Emi managed to regroup and tried to help Sera while cornered, only to be saved in turn by Fenrir who had returned to take vengeance after being left behind. After the fight and fleeing, the Crew repaired Fenrir once again. Feeding them scraps from meals and tending to wounds. Sera was still getting use to how Disassemblers slept, and mostly slept on the ground to keep watch. The first night with Fenrir, they cuddled up to Sera, allowing her to use them as a pillow while they kept watch for her. Ever since that day, Fenrir was made a part of the Crew and joined them on their search for a new home. His armor was upgraded/painted by Emi and was named by Jak after finding a book of old Norse Mythology. They primarily stick close to Sera and has the strongest bond with her. The Crew also had him whistle trained, using unique whistles crafted by Sera from a rare ore in the System that is no longer found. Each whistle has a unique sound, and Fenrir can identify which drone calls for him based on each whistle's sound. They continue to serve as a form of security in their new home once found, patrolling the grounds of the chapel and calling out at the first sign of danger.

Ok, that was a long one. And I still have so much more story to tell, especially the REDACTED parts, but that'll have to wait another time. Tell me what you guys think and I'll consider expanding the story.

Lady o' War Crew

I've done a little post for a lot of my parties, but realised I haven't done one for the Lady o' War's crew! Since that game just finished up the other day I'm thinking about it a lot, so gonna write a ramble piece about the team. <3

These characters are from a one-on-one Spelljammer campaign, starting with Spelljammer Academy and running into Light of Xaryxis.

Vale Hart (he/him): my PC, a man cobbled together from parts of different dead people. He still had flashes of their memories, and part of his motivation to go into space was to make memories that he knew were his very own, as they were from somewhere those other people had never been. Vale was held together with glowing golden stitches, and it was the energy from these that he manipulated to magical effect (class-wise, he was a rune knight fighter.)

Vale had a figurine of wondrous power, which could summon a sapphire star lancer he named Nebulain (he/him.)

Vale died in the final session of Light of Xaryxis, returning the light contained in his friend Xedalli's ring to the star Xaryxis, which destroyed the star and himself in the process.

Edwin (she/her): the team's spelljammer, a human who uses the Mage (Healer) sidekick class. Edwin is an astronomer and was very excited to take her first steps into space! After the party defeated a hostile reigar named Hastain, Edwin bonded with their esthetic (a giant space jellyfish with spelljamming capabilities), and this joined the team's slowly growing fleet. Edwin named the esthetic the Lady o' War.

Demetrius Ozmata (he/him): the third member of the original team. He uses the Expert sidekick class. Demetrius at first appeared to be a snobby, selfish elven nobleman, but when he saw how his behaviour annoyed Vale and Edwin he admitted that he hasn't really had friends before and asked them to help him. He became closer to the group after this moment of vulnerability, and they soon learned his poorly kept secret: he is a recently turned vampire. Demetrius' parents had sent him away when he tried to stop the nobility hoarding precious water on his asteroid home, and the man he was sent to work for turned out to be a powerful ancient bloodsucker.

V (she/her): a mechanical woman who had very few memories when the party met her, on a ship where she was slowly being taken apart by clockwork horrors. V uses the Warrior sidekick class. Although she couldn't remember her name, the letter 'V' was scratched into her chest, and she adopted that as her new name. During their travels, the party discovered that V was a courier robot with a precious cargo tucked away in her chest cavity: a solar dragon egg. Her previous owner allowed her to stay with the party in exchange for the egg.

Favorite movie has got to be Back to the Future, I must have seen all three parts several times (can you tell how old I am lol)/ Favorite TV show I would constantly binge on is Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Breaking Bad.

I used to cosplay a long time ago, this was for the Doctor Who fandom at the time. However, I also attended Steam Punk conventions to dress up. I just love---still love--steampunk esthetics.

I was heavy in the Supernatural fandom and rolplayed as Castiel a lot. This was way early on before it turned to shit lol

I draw but I haven't done so in YEARS. I want to draw again. mental health is a bitch and I haven't felt inspired to do so. I like too again though.

I’ve watched “Interview with the Vampire” and, I suppose, I enjoyed it more than the book. It’s just such a pleasant thing to see, even knowing that Cruise and Pitt “won” the Golden Raspberry for Worst Screen Couple, they were beautiful (hello, a not so little gay part of me) and played not so bad. Actually, I’ve never thought that Tom Cruise with long blond hair can be so attractive. The tension between the two vampires was quite interesting to watch. Young Kirsten Dunst was very lovely and also played quite well. The plot is different from the book, but mostly in details (like, Louis lost his brother in the book and wife and child in the movie and so on, but it’s not very important) and it’s shorter comparing to the original. I mean it’s probably nothing very special, but if you like vampires esthetics – you can watch it, if you don’t – you probably shouldn’t. The only thing I, probably, should say about it, is: “You know, wine doesn’t burn so well. When you’ll decide to burn a theatre in revenge think of a better liquid arson”.
