Wrote 1500 words today! The story I'm working on is now past 3500 words.
I'm really enjoying this one. It's sort of a reimagining of something I wrote ~12 years ago, but not an exact adaptation — it's more like the stuff from the old story is in the past for the characters, and 12 years later it's coming back to trouble them worse. So that's really fun. And now that classes are over for the term, I have time to write again.

So about that painting of Lestat being hung up there (Warning -- book spoiler incoming as well as for Episode 2x02 (9)):
:
:
:
Daniel was right. It was very soap opera-y that Lestat's painting was hanging on that wall when Louis and Claudia first met the coven. And that is because it was strategically placed there before Louis and Claudia first arrived at the theater. By Armand.
Because during that five-month period when the coven made no contact with Louis and Claudia? It was either before or slightly after that that Lestat -- the real Lestat -- himself arrived in Paris. Looking for help from Armand to heal himself.
From The Vampire Lestat:
Tumblr media
In Episode 2x02 (9) Armand quickly clocks in about Lestat, Louis, and Claudia and basically tells Louis not to lie to him about it. But that wasn't just because of his superior Mind Gift skills in comparison to Louis'. It's because Armand already knew everything from Lestat himself.
And hey, I do think Armand is, in truth, very interested in hearing about everything from Louis' side of things. And that is partly what will be going on in Episode 2x03 (10). Armand will be trying to get Louis to tell him the truth about what happened between himself and Lestat. And using his own history with Lestat to draw the truth from Louis about it.
But yeah, Lestat's already in Paris too, locked up somewhere only Armand knows about and has access to. And that painting was only recently put up there once it was decided to finally make contact with Louis and Claudia, likely also by Armand. The coven, given the clues, very much wanted to make contact with Louis and Claudia during that five-month period, but Armand held them back from doing so. (Because the coven doesn't yet know about Lestat being in Paris.) It was probably only once Armand had all the info he could get from a weak Lestat, and then had him securely stashed away, then Armand himself made contact with Louis.
(And let me also just say no, I don't think Louis' hallucinations of Dreamstat are the real Lestat projecting himself to Louis or something. Mainly because Lestat is Louis' Maker, so they can't communicate mind to mind. But also because Lestat was mentally weak during this time, and likely wouldn't have had the strength to do something like that in the first place.)
So yeah, Daniel mocking that painting being hung there like that was the show hanging a lampshade about how soap opera in nature something like that would be by having Daniel directly say it. And also, it was, IMO, a hint that the surface reason given for why that painting was hanging there wasn't the real reason.

daniel was so enthralled and delighted seeing louis' fangs, was fascinated with the knowledge that armand can read minds, that it stands to reason he would go balls to the wall insane to find out armand can fly. in the 70s he'd ask armand to do it all the time and armand would always do it so daniel would cheer for him and get all excited again. so in dubai in 2022 when armand is revealing himself as the ancient vampire and not the servant boy, i like to think he was like "well, there's one surefire way to make sure this reveal makes daniel's eyes bug out and makes him freak out and go crazy and realize how cool and hot and powerful i am." and then he just. starts fucking flying

Chapter Six
Tumblr media
Welcome to Chapter Six, Public Release. I think this is the chapter that has really gotten the ideas moving for me and while I am taking a brief hiatus, I cannot wait to get back to this story. Please note that there is a cheat sheet for you to rechoose some options at the beginning of this chapter. Twine updated and has broken a lot of codes. If this still does not work, I would suggest deleting cookies, browser history, and restarting your game.
I do hope you all enjoy what is about to transpire and cannot wait to hear your thoughts.
Book 2
If you want more after this chapter, there are a lot of post chapter six shorts up on my Patreon. Be sure to check that out.

New Netflix Watchers: oooo loustat forever! We love our kings! #teamforgivemycancelledwhiteman
IWTV AMC watchers: so Armand is def autistic coded and wants to fuck that old man. Ntm, Lestat is so sad and pathetic and needs his emotional support plank. So excited for rockstar era!
Anne Rice Universe Book Readers: so David is definitely a bottom, and in this essay, we will explain how Lestat fucked this mother. Also, btw, aliens are real.

why is lestat's turn of events more truthful than louis'?? like, no doubt about it that louis is an unreliable narrator. which he also does admit to himself, he is very aware that he is speaking from his perspective and he doesn't know everything and time does change memories and views of those memories.
but why do so many people in the fandom believe lestat over louis? why is he automatically more reliable and truthful than louis?

Dear god, The Face Lestat makes when Santiago starts reading Claudia's diary, his daughter's diary.
Yes, Lestat himself had read them, but he had been, reluctant or not, her parent for a time. While it was still an overstep of boundaries it is not the same as Santiago reading passages outloud for an audience.
The face he makes is his recognition of that.
It's very obvious he doesn't want to be there for the trial, if he had he would be far more... giddy about what is happening. During the trial his is rigid and almost seems physically disoriented at times. Almost as though the coven were keeping him in control too.
Armand compares him to a hurricane, and normally that is apt, but during the trial himself he seems far too restrained.
Tumblr media
This face he makes at that particular moment is grim and as much as he can do to show his displeasure

Devil's Minion flashback hint in Episode 2x04 Preview
Spoilers from the 2x04 preview below:
: : : : : :
So . . . I think this is a shot of young Daniel, wrapped up in plastic and duct tape:
Tumblr media
And it was Armand who did it and who young Daniel is looking up at here:
Tumblr media
So I already suspected that Armand locking Daniel up in a cage like he did in the book wasn't going to happen in the show, and this would be the equivalent -- Daniel trapped in Armand's apartment instead. But wrapping Daniel up in plastic and duct tape first? Yikes.
My speculation:
Now, in the books, Armand locked Daniel up in a cage for something like 3-4 days before letting him go -- with the threat of killing him at some point -- and officially starting their chase. But because during the shooting of Season 2, there was no indication that Luke and Assad filmed anywhere other than Prague, I don't think we'll see that part of the chase yet. And, instead, Daniel will be "locked up" for a much longer period at first.
I'm also starting to get the feeling that the timeframe of the chase vs when they officially became a couple will be the same in the show as it was in the books. Their cat-and-mouse lasted for 4 years, and then they officially became a couple for 8 years after that before Daniel was turned, (or, in the show's case, let go), going from the age of 20 to the age of 32 by the end -- a span of 12 years of his life in total for it all. I thought at first that the show might condense the timeline of the chase, but I'm starting to think they won't.
So if Daniel is kept in the apartment for longer than 3-4 days, that would be part of the 4-year chase timeline.
