okay so one of my aftg fic opinions:

when it comes to au’s that included non human creatures, like mermaids, vampires, werewolves, etc, I always lean towards the ones where Andrew is a human and Neil is whatever else.

I just love the idea that Andrew is just a guy.

A guy who is fucking sick of all this magic/supernatural bullshit. He just wants to live his life and for people to leave him the fuck alone.

Maybe he is actively anti whatever supernatural being is the main focus of the story. Maybe he has massive trust issues with whatever beings are there or the power system at play.

And then boom. In comes fucking whatever!Neil.

Happy Halloween uh. Vampire Kevin feeds so messily after leaving the Raven coven. He feeds without restraint and without care and it makes him feel sooo good because it’s a freedom he’s never had before.

Andrew (werewolf) makes him wear a little bib and gets Really good at getting bloodstains out of clothing. Neil (shapeshifter) happily offers himself up for mealtimes when Kevin is slowly getting rehabilitated to drinking fresh blood again.

“Oh, Neil!” Nicky says suddenly. Aaron rolls his eyes and grits his teeth around his cigarette, but Nicky continues, “Have you ever read Twilight?”

“Um.” Neil blinks. “Should I have?”

“No. It’s a terrible book.” Kevin answers.

“Yes it is.” Andrew agrees. 

“But you’ve all read it?”

“Yep! It was my idea. Just so you know, I’m Team Jacob.” Nicky says, expectantly.

Neil opens his mouth. “I honestly have no idea what that means.”

“Well, if you ever read it let me know. Okay? The last book sucks a lot but—”

“Nicky,” Aaron grits out, it’s a clear warning. But Neil doesn’t know what for. 

“Hmm?”

“I don’t think Josten wanted a book review.”

“I’m just saying. For straight people books, they’re alright.” Nicky says. “I think I still have a copy of the first one at the house. So if you ever wanna borrow it…”

“Uh. Thanks,” Neil can’t help that it comes out like a question. If the whole team is as random as this… they’re doomed. Suddenly Andrew clears his throat and Neil fights the urge to cover his abdomen. But Andrew merely points at his brother’s hand.

“You’re done with that, aren’t you? I’m tired of standing out here.”

Aaron gives his twin a look but nods and drops the cigarette on the sidewalk, crushing it out with his shoe. “Yeah, let’s go.”

And it's not fair I can't bring post 70s work into this, because she just gets better and better, and her drag performance in to die for. But in the era I CAN talk about, she shows she has THE RANGE. Beautiful, feisty, funny, holding her own against Christopher Plummer, Paul Newman, Rock Hudson. Oh she's luminous.

Nadira (Shree 420, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai)— She had a blast playing the femme fatal in Indian films in the 50s. Also the costumes she wore in Shree 420 are absolutely iconic. It's important to mention that she was Jewish. She was born Farhad "Florence" Ezekiel in Baghdad to an Iraqi Jewish family. They moved to India sometime in the 1940s. The funny thing is that she originally wanted to convert to Catholicism and become a nun but joined the film industry instead as her family desperately needed money. Even though she was unfortunately typecast in femme fatale roles after playing the nightclub entertainer Maya in Shree 420, she always gave 110% to every role she was cast in. Apparently she acted in a German film as well? She was also one of the most highly paid actresses in the Indian film industry and was one of the few Indians to own a Rolls Royce.

I just submitted a whole list of golden-era Bollywood stars without whom I thought this tournament could not conscionably be considered complete BUT Nadira has got my personal vote for Hottest of the lot. She played a bunch of delicious vamp roles in her youth before graduating to being a creepy spiderlady antagonist type in middle/older age. Rare is the still in which she looks like she's NOT about to gnaw your face off. Yow!
