kiss kiss bang bang this week is shane and andrew providing a commentary track(?) to the rerelease of the n64 goldeneye (??) and this is the weirdest but completely on brand detour for the podcast to take yet
#kkbbpod#kiss kiss bang bang#goldeneye#it's a commentary track because neither of them are big into gaming

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: OK Connery
The scoring on this was surprisingly low, considering how much fun they were both having while watching it! I've actually seen this one, and I can't kick too much against the score — there's a reason this was an MST3K episode, after all — but I thought at least they'd give the point to the song.
This movie has half a dozen alternate titles, I swear.
Anyway, say what you will about Neil Connery's acting ability, this movie score higher than any of the three non-Bond Sean Connery movies they've watched for the podcast so far; Zardoz, The Avengers (not that one), and The Rock all ended up with a score of 002, and Operation Kid Brother — er, I mean Operation Double 007 — wait, no, OK Connery squeaks by with a 002.5.
The cocktail this time was a "dated, borderline undrinkable" knockoff of the Vesper called (I think?) the Century:
1.5 oz gin .5 oz white creme de cacao .75 oz dry vermouth/kina lillet approximation .75 oz lemon juice
Stirred, not shaken, one presumes.

oh my god, they're doing a MST3K movie on kiss kiss bang bang next week, i'm so excited
this week's episode was a slog, i won't lie. it's no knock on shane or andrew — the movie sounds exhaustingly uneven, and their own weariness and disgust is palpable in the episode. it's interesting, though maybe not surprising, that this quasi-remake of last week's thunderball is more sexist than the version made in 1965; the 80s were a period of intense misogynist backlash. the film was written by the writer of the original thunderball, so it's not just a case of a new writer coming in and putting an unpleasant stamp on things, it's the same person curdling with the passage of time. the bond franchise is already pretty sexist, but one of the things the show has highlighted about those earlier movies is that the sexism of the 60s movies tended toward striking, villainous women in ways that the audience could latch on to as subversive or heroic; NSNA, as a heightened semi-parody of the series, strips most of that away and makes its women weaker and more victimized.
anyway, this is the lowest scoring bond movie on the list, with a flat 002 out of 007. even the egregiously terrible 1960s Casino Royale with Peter Sellers managed a 002.5 due to an acceptable song. (here's the full score list, if you're interested)

one of the higher scoring bond movies on this episode of kiss kiss bang bang, and one of the best bond villain women, to hear shane and andrew tell it, but i'm already forgetting everything about thunderball. something about that movie makes it just slide right out of my head
i mean, i've seen basically none of these, so that's not surprising, but i could give you some kind of synopsis of diamonds of forever, but thunderball??
austin power basically lifted its plot for their first movie, you would think that would help but even in austin powers i have to fumble around for the actual scheme
anyway, thunderball scores 006 out of 007; they just couldn't justify the queerness point, despite the opening drag queen bit

shane's *shout* of joy when the final scores for die another day came in at "above average" is a delight
the kiss kiss bang bang hosts mentioned wanting to watch barbarella for their podcast, despite it not fitting into the show's format really, and i will just note that jane fonda was under consideration to play tiffany case in andrew favorite diamonds are forever, so if they wanted to do movies that almost star bond women, that's an option.
they've watched a number of nonbond movies starring bond actors, it wouldn't be unreasonable to watch some unrelated movies starring bond women, too. could be fun

Vamp (the Grace Jones vampire movie where she does a performance art dance about colonialism? while wearing a keith haring bodysuit) did quite well in the rankings:
Base Score: Andrew - 3/3 Shane - 3/3
Bond: (there's no Bond in this, so no point) Andrew - 0/1 Shane - 0/1 Song: Andrew - 0/1 Shane - 0/1
Glamour: Andrew - 1/1 Shane - 1/1
Queerness: Andrew - 1/1 Shane - 1/1
Total: 005/007
Vamp is tied for 14th place so far, alongside the book version of Casino Royale, Dr. No, Black Widow, the Simpsons episode "You Only Move Twice," GoldenEye, and the book versions of From Russia With Love and Goldfinger.
Of the non-bond movies they've covered, it is tied for fourth, behind only Cleopatra Jones, Flash Gordon, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Cocktail: the Petanque
