My friend Cosmo and I decided to dub over a scene from ISAT! This was a lot of fun and I look forward to collabing with them + others in the near future. No subtitles available unfortunately BUT you can read along to the dialogue here!

ISAT spoilers though, so be warned. Cosmo thank you so much for doing this with me!! (Cosmo does not have any public socials)

I know it's such a small detail, but one tiny thing i appreciated from Veilguard is that Asian characters (Bellara and Taash, yes Taash is asian to me, fight me) are voiced by Asian actors. Bellara is voiced by an Asian actress (Jee Young Han). And for her brother, Cyrian, who plays such a minor role in the series, the studio could have easily casted any actor. Or recast an already contracted actor and put a different voice for Cyrian. But Cyrian was given to a small asian actor (Tim Chiou).

Also Taash's VA is of Asian too (Jin Maley is mixed, with their name being Jin which I think they are half-japanese with their appearance) and Taash's mother, Shathann, is voiced by an Sumalee Montano, who is filipino and one of the very few prolifiic voice actors of the last decade or two who is of asian descent.

Like, it's such small thing. But for me, it's deeply meaningful. I knew a few older asian actors who want to work in western productions just can't because of typecasts and lack of roles created for them. Not to mention the cruel history of using white actors to slant their eyes and play caricatures of asian people in early western visual media. The only roles those asian actors i knew got, was our own community making them. For us. Or going back to east asia to get roles (which is its own host of problems there).

So for Veilguard to put that bit of extra effort to hire asian actors to do big leads down to minor roles, especially with our faces, is so important. Western entertainment industries across the US, Australia and Europe are still very slow in hiring us asians consistently. But for just for one game, the devs decided to hire asians from all acting experiences to bring life to these characters.

And I just. Appreciate that a lot.

oooh but to be pinned down against the panel control by alastor during that one scene in stayed gone. maybe you're one of his contracted souls. maybe you're one of the poor souls seeking redemption. maybe you're one of his friends, if the radio demon has such a thing. maybe you're playing spy for vox. doesn't matter - you're here during his showdown with vox.

his façade drops. you take a step back, until your hip hits the control panels. there's nowhere to run. not with him looming over you. his ever-present smile stretches impossibly wide, fangs bared, hot breath fanning your skin. saliva trickles down his gaping maw. your breath hitches when it hits the tender skin of your neck, lips parting in a silent gasp.

"i'm gonna make you wish that i'd stayed gone."

his body contorts and stretches, limbs elongating until he encases you, studies you - pupils like radio dials emerging from a pool of black. he's close. too close. oh, and he's pissed.

you've never seen something as terribly beautiful as him.

his claws dig in your chin, craning up your neck just short of humanely possible until you meet his stare. he sings, still, static digging into your very bones until it steals your breath away, until it's only you and the radio demon watching you like you're his last meal. oh, and he's snarling his verse, voice dripping with venom as he goes, as you drown into him.

there's a distorted chuckle in his voice, the richness of his laughter merging with that of his audience's.

"oh, this will be fun."

proooobbabbly (in order of preference) 1. vampire yaku (i REALLY wanna hear yakumo lash out. AND the goofy mirror training) 2. idol yaku (lots of lore in this one, along with potential for snake-language yakumo. bonus: panicked whisper yaku in R1) OR 3. iced coffee yaku (give me more of that dulcet service voice)

when they launched the poll, my immediate answer was SHADOW LINEAGE YAKUMO! I WANNA HEAR HIM SCREAM AS HE PLUMMETS FROM THE CLIFF but, not so hasty... did he ACTUALLY scream while hurtling to his doom? after i checked the rooms, no. no he did not. in fact, he was quite coherent throughout the crisis. that simply will not suffice. so, scrap shadow lineage. i must now go through room by room...

Things that , voiced, may INTRIGUE me? 👀👓:

White day yakumo: - eiden's weaponised incompetence while yakumo teaches him how to stir 😁

Idol yakumo: - blade and oli!! - yakumo ?happy!? it feels like it's been so long - yakumo speaking ancient serpent language - i can see the appeal in hearing yaku sing [ancient mating ball music], but i kinda prefer letting my imagination do the work. hmm...

Count drakumo: - yakumo losing his temper with eiden (I WANT TO HEAR HIM LASH OUT AT PRECIOUS EITO-SAN. JUST ONCE) - eiden talking about his hidden scalp scar and past anger issues - garu and aster!! often talking about food!! - eiden saying affirmations in the mirror about himself :)<3 - yakumo being forced to repeat eiden's compliments about his stamina and cuteness 😂

Nerdkumo: - some extra lines of being nervous and flustered never hurt anyone

Shadow Lineage: - a loooot of backstory but it's from Great Serpent POV/outside narrative, so it's not as relevant voice-wise - if they could squeeze in some distress noises every time yakumo nearly dies , that would be great

umbrella yaku: - yakuei being scared about ghosts and clinging onto each other - baby yaku? but... he's just crying again, in a pitched up voice probably. not the MOST interesting for me 🤨

Mermaid yaku: - the stupid sappy moment where eiden lies on yaku's lap and gets his tummy rubbed and theyre all disgustingly sweet n whispery

Iced coffeeyaku: - rei and blade!! - confident service yaku voice? talking with customers??? - yakumo switching between his calm happy-to-serve mode to being DEAD FLUSTERED by eiden's advances - idk something about yakumo acting as little coffee boy with a jingly collar .. bringing back this relevant line from the aster/yaku fic:
