Verses...

v: seasons 1-3 

Goes by canon and canon divergence in the early seasons. I don’t usually abide by any Beremy storylines. Just substitute all the romantic bs between them with just a very solid friendship and I’ll go with it. After all, Anna did kidnap Bonnie and Elena, her justified anger can be about that. 

v: season 4

Season 4 of TVD canon without the Beremy and with the expression and her gaps in memory. 

v: season 5; ghost

The first half of the season where she is a ghost and only able to communicate through Jeremy, the handy dandy medium. Otherside shenanigans are to be had.

v: season 5; anchor

The second half of the season where she is the anchor. Again, without the Beremy, and there are more ghost shenanigans are to be had and more plots where I can have reasons for whump and angst plots cause I’m terrible. 

v: season 6; prison world

The first half of the sixth season where she is trapped in the prison world with Kai and Damon. Then with just Kai. Then by herself. This is a very limited verse and will require plotting to write in with anyone who isn’t using Kai or Damon. 

v: season 6; back in the real world

The second half of the sixth season where she escapes the prison world and follows canon for the most part. Occasionally I will au in this verse where she doesn’t lock Kai away in another prison world.

v: season 7; fighting heretics again

The first half of the seventh season, usually follows canon.

v: season 7; running from the armory

Basically follows the second half of the seventh season, doesn’t usually include the Huntress arc. 

v: season 8

Generally follows what I remember from canon, and I’ll be honest, I don’t remember a whole lot from this season besides the fact that Bonnie had to fight to get Damon and Enzo back from sirens. Then there is a devil and Katherine is the actual devil. 

v: post series

Takes place right after season 8 ends and she is travelling the world. 

v: nola

Bonnie goes to New Orleans for whatever reason and gets wrapped up in Originals drama. 

v: legacies; these are our legacies

Bonnie is a teacher at the Salvatore boarding school and is the temporary headmistress while Ric isn’t there. And when she realizes that he’s thrown students into the prison world she made for Kai Parker, she makes her status a little more permanent till Caroline gets back.

↳ day six (oct 3rd): favorite episode

Choosing an episode from season 6 is probably little controversial in the TVD community since most people consider season 1-3 the best. I love this episode because it gave us the rain kiss! Also, it played "The Hardest Part" by Nina Nesbitt during the scene where they're out by the border/town sign. I never would have discovered Nina Nesbitt without this episode and now she's one of my favorite artists!

Is Vampire Academy a good series for a TVD fan who was unhappy with the direction the series took? I'm still on the fence about whether I'll watch the show because it's Plec, but do you recommend reading the VA books? I hated the direction TVD went after season 3

Sorry for the delay with this! Life got busy and I forgot about this briefly, but to your question!

I do recommend the VA books just in general, but yeah even with you being someone who was disappointed with the direction of the TVD show, I recommend them. I, too, was disappointed in the direction the show went post s3. I feel like, even though my ship was getting split time in s3, I still loved the show because it’s plot and tone up until that point felt concise in a way. The show knew what it was and it developed in a frame that made sense. After season 3, to me, the show struggled juggling two major plot changes (vampire!elena and d/e pairing), where I think one was a natural transition (vampire!elena), while the other was more rushed (d/e), and rather than organically build the split between s/e and growth of d/e , they just used v!e to make d/e happen, kinda crapping on both plot changes and loosing their way in the process, especially as more new changes came about (college). 

Vampire Academy, alternately, is a solid, tight plot. The benefit of books is that authors generally have their whole series planned out and have to plan it out in advance, so everything that happens in the books happen with purpose and with the necessary growth behind it. Each book builds on the themes and plot of the last and the series ends in a satisfying conclusion on all accounts - plot, character growth, and ship. I will say the plot does take some crazy turns you wouldn’t expect it to go, arc wise, when you first read the first book, but after reading them all I can’t look back and go “where tf did that come from” bc there were signs and hints showing this build in the earlier books, yknow? Like, you’re not going to get a random fucking sire bond out of nowhere in these books, okay.  I will caution that the book series, as most vampire fiction, features an age-gap relationship btw our vampire hybrid leads: Rose is a 17 year old runaway student and Dimitri is a 24 year old guardian begrudgingly tasked with mentoring her at the start of the first book. The series is 6 books long, and that mentorship ends in book 3, but the gap remains so it’s important to note! (A smaller age gap is also present in the alternative relationship of Rose and Adrian, Rose’s secondary love-interest in the series, of 17 and 21.) Additionally, the series has themes of self-harm and depression with the other main character, Lissa. 

All in all, though, I do recommend the books! Especially if your main gripe with the show TVD is the plot, then reading something like VA might be a nice change of pace because it is very much a plot that knows where its going from the first book and writes their characters and ships with the proper care needed to get to where she wants them to be by the end.

I saw that you watch TVD (THE VAMPIRES DIARIES) and lt made me think, whether it was COA or The COA vampire au (probs the au makes more sense, just seeing v meet damon salvatore would be so fun to see. Like, I feel they would make good "frenemies" in a way. Imaging admin bantering about Y/Ns affections for Santi and V. Hahaha, it's just a great vision to see

Ahh, I used to love that show! Stopped watching it after Kai season (6?) but oh the good old days!!!

So I think the TRULY hilarious “frenemies” ship here would be Santino/Damon because they’re both vampires and actually have so much in common? Especially love wise (tho V is wayyy greyer than Elena and never cared about reforming Santino into being “good”) and how they both love so recklessly and in vamp!au have to deal with the “epic love choice” (John/Stefan). Oh my goddddd the SASS!! It would be hilarious lol

Damon I can see befriending V, too. Like that annoying pain in the ass kind of friend she can’t bring herself to kill and the church hasn’t called for it so she’s like “you get to live for now” and he’s like “please, you won’t kill my lovable self.” And their friendship is one of the reasons why V doubts her mission/can see a life for herself as an immortal.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

AHHHH the Vampire Diaries. This show has made my quarantine period so much better. This show took me by surprise. Seeing as TVD finished in 2017, I’m a little late to the party watching it in 2020, but honestly I didn’t think a vampire show was for me seeing as though I wasn’t the biggest fan of Twilight and I honestly thought it would be a little cringey.  Well I was wrong, because this show quickly became one of my favourite teen dramas I have ever watched and all the hype around it made sense. I don’t know if it was the INSANELY hot cast or the storylines that had the ability of making me feel absolutely broken. 

The Vampire Diaries starts off as a show about a normal teenager (or so we thought)  Elena Gilbert, who meets a boy Stefan that she instantly has a connection with and his brother Damon, who happen to be Vampires. The thing I love about this show is that it evolves so much from that, even just in the first season. Now I can't possibly go through every storyline that was told in the 8 seasons of the show but I can say that most of them were so brilliant and always kept me watching. Stefan and Damon were two of my absolute favourite characters of course (as I assume they are most peoples) as you got to see their characters go through such a journey with not only Elena but with each other. Although the show focused so much on the love triangle, I enjoyed the storylines so much more when the brothers were working together. One of my favourite scenes has to be in season 6 when Damon comes back from the prison world, and Stefan unexpectedly reunites with his brother. I also absolutely LOVE the other main characters of the show, Caroline and Bonnie (of course there's so many more, but these two were consistently part of the main cast). Caroline is hands down my favourite character, and I think a lot of fans can agree. Although she started out to be an annoying, whiny character, when she turned into a vampire she became the most loveable. Now, Bonnie honestly carried the whole show if you think about it. Through every problem Bonnie always found a solution or at least had a huge part of the solution, not to mention  bringing back so many of the “dead” characters. The Mikaelson family were also such a great addition to the show as well and really making season 2,3 and 4 so entertaining, but I will get into that more in my Originals post! 

Some of my favourite episodes are: 

Season 1 Episode 22: Founders Day - The episode that Kathrine arrives in mystic falls, with the epic scene where she cuts off John's fingers. “Hello John, Goodbye John” has got to be my favourite Kathrine quote ever. 

Season 3 Episode 14: Dangerous Liaisons - This is the episode that the Mikaelson Ball occurs in, which is very iconic. 

Season 6 Episode 21: I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime - Jo and Alaric’s wedding is one of the most hectic scenes in the whole series. 

Season 8 Episode 16: I Was Feeling Epic - I’ve never cried so much at a series finale episode like I have with this one. 

Although this show is one of my favourite shows to ever exist there are some things that I would’ve liked to have changed. First and foremost I wish that Enzo had never been killed (especially by Stefan)  😭😭. Bonnie deserved her happily ever after more than anyone else in the show and it sucked to not see her be happy in the end. Although I absolutely loved ‘The Originals’ show, I do wish there were more crossover episodes between the two shows because I loved how the dynamics changed when the Mikealsons joined the Salvatores and company. I also would’ve loved Elena to stay part of the show after season 6. I know this was because of Nina Dobrev's choice to leave the series however her character became less annoying just before she left it, I would've loved to see what would’ve happened if she stayed since she was the main character for the first 6 seasons. A minor change I would’ve enjoyed was to see closure between Jeremy and Bonnie's relationship. I also would’ve loved to see more of Lexi while she was alive, I know we did get a lot of flashbacks, however it would’ve been great to have seen more of her and Stefans friendship before Damon killed her. 😭 

My post about ‘Friends’ discussed diversity in casting, this show could have also featured a bit more diversity. Now, of course Bonnie is of African American descent, however she was the only main cast member who was not caucasion. There were many guest stars, or minor roles who were people of colour, however I believe they could’ve added a bit more diversity to the cast. In saying this, the two spin off series that have come from The Vampire Diaries, ‘The Originals’ and ‘Legacies’, both have a very diverse cast, which is GREAT. - Steven McQueen who plays Jeremy, Elena's YOUNGER brother, is actually older than Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena 

- All the episode titles of Season 6 were dedicated to 90’s songs, because Bonnie and Damon were trapped in the prison world in the 90s 

- In the book version of The Vampire Diaries by L. J. Smith and J. L. Miller, there were many more supernatural beings, such as angels 

- Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder both directed multiple episodes of the later seasons of The Vampire Diaries

Set during season 1 of TVD and at the beginning of New Moon in Twilight. Bella is a witch, the Charmed kind of witch. I borrowed some Spells for the TV show Charmed. It has the same base as my MCTF that paired Bella and Elijah, except now she’s with Klaus. Rewriting makes it LONGER. Done

TOP FIVE TV SHOWS: This changes a lot but I’ll go with the most consistent ones I can think of!

1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yes, it’s very dated, and yes, Joss Whedon ain’t shit, but this remains one of my all-time favorite shows, and Buffy Summers remains one of my favorite characters, and there are so many episodes I can watch again and again and never get bored. It has a magic to it that even Angel could never quite capture, and I always find myself going back to it when I’m not sure what to watch but just want something that I’ll enjoy.

2. Avatar: the Last Airbender: Obviously, given my blog name, I have a deep and abiding love for this series. Is it perfect? Of course not, and there are some major things I wish were different, but overall it’s an amazing show with fantastic characters and a brilliant overarching plot, and it manages to stand up to modern scrutiny even though it’s been over a decade since it finished airing.

3. The Nanny. To this day, The Nanny is probably my favorite sitcom of all time. It was released in the 90s, but unlike a lot of sitcoms of the era (Friends immediately comes to mind, though they weren’t the worst offender) the vast majority of its humor doesn’t rely on ‘no homo’ jokes or misogyny/transphobic gags. (There are some off-color jokes, of course--it was the nineties. But this is one of the few shows where I can watch 90% of the episodes without cringing.) Most of the humor is centered around Fran’s hilarious antics, and it’s still a show I can put on whenever I need a good laugh, and it will never disappoint.

4. Leverage. I just love this show so much. A bunch of thieves come together for a job with one (1) honest man to give them a plan, and suddenly they’ve become a family who steal from the rich to give to the poor and disenfranchised and I love every since one of them. Even Nate. Plus, the ot3 is real. Hitter Hacker Thief owns my goddamn soul.

5. Person of Interest. Listen, it was a fantastic show, and yeah it got a little weird near the end, and also Joss Carter deserved better, but it had two of the most fucking cathartic and viscerally satisfying villain deaths I have ever seen in my life. “Oh, no, I’m not gonna kill you--I’m just gonna watch.” and “Now I surrender.” Just.... poetic fucking cinema, ok???

TOP FIVE CHARACTERS: Same deal, this is a list that will change frequently, but these are my most consistent faves:

1. Elena Gilbert from The Vampire Diaries. Surprising absolutely no one who was around for my TVD fandom days, or who has seen me talking about anything TVD related, Elena fucking Gilbert is my girl forever and she deserved so much better. From the show and from the gods forsaken fandom. I’m not gonna get into it cause I don’t need to be dropping thousands of words for an ask meme post, but evidently Elena was the harbinger signaling my love for orphaned brunettes with doe eyes and pain hidden behind a smile, but I just love her so goddamn much and I always will.

2. Buffy Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She saved the world. A lot. She’s my absolute favorite character from BtVS and frankly she deserved better, too--fuck absolutely everyone after Empty Places--but I just... love her so much. And her arc in season 6 means so much to me as someone constantly struggling with depression and ptsd (mine is related to childhood trauma, but that’s not beside the point). Buffy is far from perfect, and she makes mistakes, but she does the job literally no one else can do, and she’s so incredibly strong. I can’t imagine going through what she went through and not completely breaking down.

3. Emma Swan from Once Upon a Time. Ok, so not a brunette, but still a woman with severe abandonment issues who grew up believing she was an orphan and kept being punished by the show, and who definitely deserved better. (No, I’m not over the ending to season 4, and I never will be.) My one comfort is knowing that she fell in love with a man who loved and cherished and appreciated her just as much as she deserved, and she got to live a long and happy life with him and their daughter.

4. Katara from Avatar: the Last Airbender. Again probably not a surprise, given my blog, but I just. I love Katara so much. And she deserved so much better than what LoK reduced her to, and where the fuck was her statue, Bryke??? Where????? Anyway, she’s the ultimate Mom Friend who won’t hesitate to cut a bitch if they hurt her friends, and I just think she’s amazing.

5. Rogue from Marvel. Just... every version of her. Rogue was my favorite character from the original X-Men trilogy, which was my first real introduction to Marvel, and she was my favorite character in X-Men: Evolution, and by the time I finally got to actually read some of her comics I loved her even more. While I still love her in the original trilogy I also wish they’d given Anna Paquin more to work with, bc she sure fucking could have done it (and she’s even said she would’ve loved to be able to fly and punch people, and I 100% think she could’ve pulled off Rogue’s natural sass brilliantly), and she’s one of my all-time faves and has been for almost twenty years.

TOP FIVE SHIPS: -laughs nervously- i can only choose five???

1. Katara and Zuko from Avatar: the Last Airbender. Anyone who’s surprised, feel free to stand on your head. >.> LISTEN, OK, JUST LISTEN. Zuko and Katara had an amazing emotional journey in canon, and I love so much how their relationship developed, and there’s so much potential for how they could have grown as a couple and I just. This is why we have fanfic and fanart. (And frankly, I’m glad they weren’t canon--given what was done to the canon ships, I wouldn’t trust Bryke with them. I shudder to think what would’ve happened to Zutara if they were canon and Bryke was in charge of their story.)

2. Veronica Mars and Logan Echolls from Veronica Mars. Listen, we’re just gonna... ignore the last five minutes of 4x08 (and Rob Thomas can fucking bite me). I spent a decade loving these two utter fools and I finally got to see them get fucking married and they are going to live long and happy lives and Veronica’s always gonna Veronica but Logan loves her and she loves him and they’ll work through any problems they have together like mature, rational adults, and they’ll keep solving mysteries cause trouble sticks to V like a bad rash and Logan will always be there to help her, and nothing can take that away from me.

3. Emma Swan and Killian Jones from Once Upon a Time. Killian’s redemption arc is probably second only to Zuko’s, and I fucking love how much he loves Emma Swan. It’s what she deserves. They build each other up and love and cherish each other so goddamn much and I still get choked up just thinking about them. (Usually I pretend that their wedding went off without a hitch and s7 didn’t happen because there was REALLY no need. This trend of shows continuing after their female leads bail needs to stop, I’ve literally never seen it end in anything except the show being panned for however many seasons it ran after the lead’s departure, and rightfully so.)

4. Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. The show did them so fucking dirty in the later seasons, but fuck if those first four seasons of amazing development don’t still fuck me up. And however much TVD ran itself into the ground, I will always have Elena, and Delena, and my love for them despite how awful the show became.

5. Rikki Chadwick and Zane Bennett from H2O: Just Add Water. Season 3 can bite me, Rikki and Zane were happy together and Zane had so much growth from the jackass he was at the beginning of season 1, and no way would he have cheated on Rikki even for a moment. They deserved so much better my gods.

She wants to find back to herself, figuring out who she was, especially after she noticed she really doesn't remember who she once was & that she's starting to believe her own lies.

She's still a badass who will always get what she wants.

Depending on the timeline, the cure is either still in her blood or not

She can’t keep vampire blood and will puke eventually. Nonetheless (depending on how long she was able to keep it) it can heal her.

It takes her much longer to heal.

The blood of an Original will heal her better than the blood of a vampire and she can keep it longer. Nonetheless she will puke eventually.

Due to her witch/traveler-nature, she can’t be compelled.

She is vulnerable and often catches colds because she doesn’t really have an immune system, and, depending on the timeline, she had a heart attack (the one in 5x10) because she was under a lot of stress and strain due to her new status as human and the loss of her vampire powers.

She’s emotional.

She didn’t use the traveler spell / didn’t want to use it because she despises the travelers.

She doesn’t know about Nadia (but that can be discussed and if you are a nadia, please plot with me, i would love to include some Katherine / Nadia dynamic).

She loves food, bring her something to eat and she’s happy.

Her apperance can be compared with the ghost in the movie “Just Like Heaven”.

Katerina // 1492 AU

This AU follows canon until Katerina’s escape in 1492.

Elijah found her and brought her back to Klaus but lied about the circumstances under which he found her.

The ritual had to be postponed by at least a month.

Katerina knows she’s going to be sacrificed but she also knows the only way to survive is by playing along and let the sacrifice happen while trying to trust Elijah’s word that he found a way to save her.

Katerina can’t be compelled because of the traveler heritage which makes her a rare kind of witch but she’s smart enough to not show it. She’s also more likely to be too intimidated by doing something opposed to an attempted compulsion, especially in front of Klaus.

Katerina is trying to make the best of it and starts to develop her own secret agenda.

I just curious what you're opinion is on the subject of Stefan letting Caroline being compelled and abused by Damon. I know he sorta rescues her from him after a couple episodes but she almost dies in the process..

That frankly, is my biggest problem with Stefan (pre season 5 before the writers ruined him).

He literally says to Elena in this^ clip that it’s just easier to let Damon do what he wants rather than to force him not to do something, Elena express outrage because Damon was hurting Caroline Stefan attempts to soothe her by saying he was only feeding off of her and erasing her memories after like that’s somehow okay or better and not still a violation of Caroline’s body and consent.

He also says if Damon wanted to kill her he would have. Elena speaking for me vicariously expresses more outrage and asks if that’s supposed to make it okay and he says no but again not much is done after that to rectify the issue.

I cannot find what ep it was in but there's a scene where Damon Stefan and Caroline (and presumably Elena) are in the same house together and Damon tells Caroline to go clean up and season1!caroline being season1!caroline adamantly refuses ‘do I look like I do dishes?’ and Damon compels her right in front of Stefan.

I could just put it down to the tvd writers misogynistic writing (and I do) but then again Stefan’s defence and constantly taking up for Damon is an inherent flaw in his character (something that the writers passed on to Bonnie, Enzo -in fact they made it his whole storyline - Caroline eventually -horrifyingly enough - and Elena but thankfully not my children Tyler and Jeremy).

I refuse to believe that this is the first time that Stefan has witnessed Damon do something of this nature. If we give Stefan the benefit of the doubt and say that he didn’t know about Damon raping/sexually/emotionally/physically abusing Caroline (although we need to recognise that part of the reason for neither Stefan or Elena calling a spade a spade is because the writers refused to use the word rape on the show and didn’t even acknowledge that Caroline was being abused until s2 - and then completely ignored it for the rest of the shows run) Stefan still knew what Damon was like ie: violent, sociopathic, deranged the type of person who is selfish ad takes pleasure in preying on things and people weaker than him and abusing them; and still Stefan did nothing.

Even in season 6 (7? ??) When Damon, Alaric and Stefan are discussing whether or not Stefan should be with Caroline, Alaric brings up her sleeping with Damon as a negative (which is both inaccurate - a complete erasure of the lack of consent in the situation - and slut shaming to Caroline) and Damon gloats. Plus it's Damon he gloated on the phone to Elena, a girl he potentially wanted be with about how much fun he had with the ‘Mystic Queen’.

Now logically look at the timelines. Both Stefan and Elena knew that when Damon and Caroline were quote unquote in a ‘relationship’ (and beware i only use that word for the purpose of the point I’m trying to illustrate) that Damon was compelling Caroline and making her forget things. Logically we can infer that anything sexual between them was probably not fully consented to because of the compulsion. We the viewer know this, Stefan has enough common sense and knowledge of Damon to know this and Elena was Caroline’s best friend who saw the marks on her neck, how scared she was and even held that lil sleep over for her to make her feel better.

But what happens? Elena slut shames Caroline for her involvement with Damon and Stefan does jack all about it.

Oh yeah, and the Damon officiates St*roline’s wedding and marries Elena and then they all live happily ever after the end.

Bottom line is, while I love Stefan , he didn't do nearly enough to help Caroline.
