God I love Wrex. He's genuinely so insightful. Whenever I took him with me he's nearly ALWAYS the one who knew before it was obvious that we were heading into an ambush or that something wasn't quite right. When we met Vigil Wrex was the one who said as we headed down that he didn't think what was happening was Sarens doing. He says he knew Saren wasn't a good guy when he met him prior to the events of the game and he met him once for a few minutes. He speaks about only being good for fighting; but he was genuinely trying to do something about the genophage before he had to leave his planet AND he still DEEPLY cares about trying to fix it now even if he tells you it's a lost cause because krogans are too focused on other things. He claims his species is best at war and not things like science but he's just!! So clever and he clearly KNOWS on some level that a lot of what the Krogan experience is is based on their subjection/treatment in the galaxy. He enjoys jobs where his opponent is smart and good at what they do; and he is smart enough to be crafty and manipulate individuals such as when he got an employer to pay him to be a guard even AFTER he failed to kill the guy he was sent after. He is grumpy, but he cares about Shepard and he cares about stopping Saren. He's cynical and not sure that things can change for the better but he's also got this little nugget of hope in him that comes out so strongly at times. I love him. Best alien. Smart little guy. Best friend.

I love that it’s Miranda who orchestrates Alfred Hamilton’s death. Partly because there’s something just so devastating to me about how lonely and constrained and helpless so much of her life on Nassau is - and thus something so grimly satisfying about her getting to exercise that kind of violent agency, even in flashbacks and exposition.

And also, because there’s a level on which it’s a little fucked up. Not that she wants that kind of revenge, not even that she gets it - but that she weaponizes Flint’s rage and grief and guilt, Flint himself, to do it. That she knows him and loves him and shares a terrible trauma with him, and that’s precisely what allows her to aim him like a homing missile at her husband’s (for all intents and purposes) murderer and pull the trigger. Fully sympathetic and understandable and I don’t think Flint was complaining one iota, but - still. There’s something magnificently brutal about it and I kind of love that for her.

Kyouya watching the princess in his study. The window is not far from the field, and Sakura often sat there watching, but it was time for the knight to do the same. He was pacing, reading papers... poor thing. So many responsibilities on such small shoulders...

"Sir Kyouya..."

He turned his head to the guards coming toward him. "Report?"

"SIr... we were given this letter directed specifically to you...." They handed a letter to the man, with the wax seal that spoke of the leader of the council.

Kyouya frowned. "Thank you." He opened the letter and read it over. "Fuck..." He sighed, walking to his own room, and to the desk that was placed there.

Of course... if the king's eagerness to marry the princess to a foreign prince or duke has been dashed, the court sees their way to the royal line. The princess cannot produce children, so as the Hanagawa bloodline ends, they can take over as the royal blood of the land. Fucking parasites. All they see is all they've ever seen. What that damnable bastard of a king saw in the princess. Not a person, but a tool. A chess piece.

The councilmen were no fools. It was probably quite clear to them that the princess already had his eyes on someone, and they surely didn't want court intrigue interfering with the princess' training and development. This was just asking for confirmation.

Gentlemen of the Council, Thank you for contacting me about this concern. It is in no one's best interest that the court is starting to try and make moves that will only make the princess worry about their relations with the noble families. Now that they can see that the princess will need support coming into power, I can see why some are making moves to proffer more comfortable matches than searching abroad for a prince or duke. I am grateful for their wish to help the princess, but this method will not be necessary. I asked the princess for their hand, and they accepted. If those of the council see complications or any such reticence to my brash behavior, then please alert me as soon as they arrive. At the moment, the happiness and focus of our future queen takes precedence. We both understand that as he continues to gather more of the responsibilities that once rested with King Fujimaru, it is imperative that he does so with as little distraction as possible.
