All 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand Tunnel Collapse, Rescued After 17 days

A team of 41 workers were rescued from a collapsed tunnel beneath the Himalayas on Tuesday, marking the completion of a remarkable and dangerous rescue operation spanning several weeks. These men had been trapped for 17 days while recovery teams worked to create an escape route through rock and debris. Despite encountering several technical challenges along the way, the final few meters of the route were carefully drilled by hand.

Video footage captured the moment when Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand state, greeted the workers during the scenes of triumph as they emerged from the tunnel. During a press conference held on Tuesday night, Dhami confirmed the good health of all 41 workers.

“Given their exposure to an extremely different environment, we’ll take note of the doctor’s advice and closely monitor them. No one is in critical condition,” stated the chief minister. “None of them exhibit signs of weakness or fever, they are all in good health. Despite the provision of stretchers, they chose to crawl out on their own,” he added, extending gratitude to the workers,engineers, and government officials involved in arranging the successful rescue mission.

The Chief Minister further announced that each of the rescued workers would receive checks amounting to 1,00,000 rupees. He further stated, “We will also request the company to grant these 41 workers a leave to reunite with their families for a duration of 15 days, 20 days, or even a month.”

I am back! The summer was extremely boring. Although there was one interesting thing that happened. I went to the Himalayas to collect some preliminary data for my dissertation. I am not even sure if I am going to do this eventually but since it's my own culture, I felt really called to investigate the spiritual possession practices in Uttarakhand Himalayas. For that I went back home to observe the practices in real time and I was extremely grateful to have had the opportunity of seeing it happen after 6 years. I wrote two blogs that describe my observations there and they're posted on my wordpress account. The new semester started in August. It was going slow but we have our first sessional exams from 18th September so I've to start studying for them. I have also gotten back to reading and I finished normal people yesterday. Can't wait to update you guys about my study progress and the insights I get from reading.

Marchula Bus Accident: A bus accident took place in Almora district of Uttarakhand on Monday. According to media reports, 36 people have died in this accident. 10 of them are women. Many people have been injured. They have been rushed to the hospital. According to officials, a bus carrying at least 40 passengers went out of control and fell into a deep gorge near Kupi village in Marchula.

District Magistrate Alok Kumar Pandey said that the bus was going from Garhwal to Kumaon, when this accident happened in Marchula, Almora. He told that so far seven people have been reported dead. Pandey said that there were about 40 passengers in the bus, so the number of casualties may increase. He said that police and SDRF personnel have reached the spot to start search and rescue operation. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the death of people in the accident.
