a very short simple thing before another sort of depressing one. my personal opinion is that Roland speaks his colleagues' names in a way it can already be interpreted as a pet name or a nickname, he's got his own way of saying them, Hokma is no exception (the first time Roland says hello to him rings in my head to this day. I stg). A more thrilling question would be "how about what do you call each other in bed" but thats an entirely different story innit

i think i know the article you're talking about, but i didn't read it because anything that smacks of sincere "these white cis men are the true victims and main characters of misogyny" just sets my teeth so thoroughly on edge. it really makes it sound like the author doesn't understand how misogyny *is* a deep part of male hockey culture, just... embedded in the other, usual way. *women* are casualties of direct, violent misogyny in hockey and acting like it's the opposite is almost insulting...

as much as i think there are angles to take in that vein that could pan out (for example: "how does homophobia and or the fear of being clocked as feminine help to reinforce misogynistic attitudes in these men"/"what are the underlying processes behind 'babygirlification' in fandom spaces about men"/"the intersection of misogyny and xenophobia in hockey") there's either a complete ignorance to these questions or, in the case of the last one, an explicit refusal to examine it. i also think that basically any other way to slice it -- including these questions, by the way -- means you have to address women both in "inner" hockey circles (female players, female coaches, female employees, wives and girlfriends etc) and in fandom spaces. which, as with everything else, is either sparingly touched on (re fandom spaces) or not at all

If in the next upcoming Marvel movies, there isn't a scene where someone says, "I'm not familiar with all this tech stuff, but I know someone who is" and it doesn't immediately cut to Morgan, Peter, and Harley jamming out in Tony's lab to the Fall Out Boys "We didn't start the fire" cover, then what even is the point anymore?

(Might I also add that if they use the fallout boys version, RDJ would be canon in the Marvel universe due to the line "Robert Downey Jr, Iron Man!" And I find that delightful)

tired: the azem crystal is overused and a stupid and unnecessary plot convenience

wired: the azem crystal is a neat way to marry mechanics and narrative and particularly good for some story beats, but needs to be used sparingly to retain its punch.

inspired: my warrior of light learned "mass planar ally" and they are going to cast it as many times per day as they can. they are a 4e lazylord now. they do not raise a weapon anymore. they heal people and they say "run over here" and "stand inside the circle please" and "don't stand in bad" and "okay stop dots". their class is raid leader. their weapon is action economy. their combat style is multi-boxing. they have trained in the way of jump kaisen. they used BEAT UP! It was super effective!

Ok, so like. After this series the whole phanteon of gods is getting shelved for a while isn't it? I know Doctor Who doesn't work like Dragon Ball but feels kind of silly to go from the strongest god of them all to their strong but not as strong niece or something.
