Finished season 2 of Twin Peaks. Flawed but before you think it's losing you a phenomenal episode comes in to make you realize how everything that came before has a greater purpose. The season finale is so tonally different from the rest of the show but still feels like such a perfect way to end the season.

I'm sorry but I find John Wheeler and his romance with Audrey to be so painfully bland. I want to like their romance as it plays such a massive role in Audrey's arc but outside the lack of chemistry I didn't think they explored their relationship beyond the surface level. I never felt a good grasp as to why Audrey fell in love with him in particular, not even accounting for complexity, I love Sherilyn Fenn's performance but here I just don't buy that she is in love with this guy.

One of the few things thus far where I feel the show really dropped the ball on.

some of you think ‘nuanced’ only means ‘morally grey’ and I’m here to tell you that actually straight up good characters can still be nuanced and unapologetically evil characters can still be nuanced. the character doesn’t have to be an anti hero or morally dubious to have depth. they don’t even have to feel sorry about their crimes to have depth.

you don't even get three episodes into tom and jerry before that faggot jerry uses mistletoe to get tom to stop chasing him and kiss him instead. and that faggot tom coquettishly complies.

David Lynch was an honorary lesbian to me. He put himself in his own show so he could literally scream about how beautiful all the women in the cast are.

One time I've made a post saying The 12th Doctor is like Anthy Himemiya but thinking about it he is closer to a fucked up amalgamation of Utena's prince/savior complex and Anthy's status as a bride who is always doing what people expect her to do while remaining emotionally distant.

There's a certain feeling of cosmic irony to the fact there's an actual discussion online over if The Substance is purely a comedy or not, because a big part of the story is that almost no one else is able to notice or care about what Elizabeth is going through. They all treat her like shit for getting older and outside from one or two characters no one ever thinks that just maybe she is currently not in a good place, during the whole film she is entirely on her own which just adds to the feeling of loneliness and isolation.

Like, damn. My girl can not catch a break even irl.

Ok so I finally watched The Substance yesterday and I’ve seen so many great takes on this film, but no one has brought up what to me was the saddest part of the movie. And no, I’m not talking about Elizabeth missing her date (so you know it’s a high bar).

Seeing a little girl dressed as Sue in the audience of the New Years show broke my heart. She is wearing a Sue costume, she idolizes and wants to be like this perfect, manicured, artificial, female idol.

Not only is Elizabeth perpetuating the same standards and expectations that are tearing her apart, whether she means to or not, but getting swept up in them starts this young.

Just�� fuck man. Seeing how the thing we’ve been watching destroy a woman for the whole runtime, the monster of this horror film, has its foot in the door, even in such a small, innocent way, with someone who hasn’t even started puberty got me choked up.

i think the reason The Substance is such a great movie is because it shows how the world treats women it finds "ugly" and why women want to conform to beauty stands in the first place. Sue gets EVERYTHING. The way her neighbour yelled at Elisabeth then shut up and started acting sweet the second he saw Sue. The same man who was thirsting after Sue nearly ran over Elisabeth with a motorbike. No one caring about Elisabeth getting into a car accident on her birthday while Sue is surrounded by people all the time.

Whenever it comes to body positivity, it's always so shallow and condescending. "Everyone is beautiful!! You can do anything!! <3" That's literally not true. People are often denied life changing opportunities because they don't fit into an extreme standard. People KNOW they're unattractive because the world treats them like shit

The Substance is the one and only time I've seen a movie say "if you're not young and sexy, your life will absolutely be harder. People will be cruel to you for no reason and treat you as a discarded toy they're bored of. But nothing society can do to you will be as destructive as you not loving yourself." Which is SO much more meaningful than "just be confident!"

The interesting thing is that while most characters have love affairs or sleep with others while being on a relationship, almost all the male characters do it out of pure sexual desire while almost all the female characters do it because their partner is abusive or are just straight up cheating on them already, so they do so in trying to find someone who actually loves them.

The big exceptions are Catherine and Nadine who are pretty much the only full blown cheaters among the female cast.

new who peaked when it had christopher eccleston look the last living dalek dead in the eyestalk & tell it to kill itself, only for the response to be "you would make a good dalek" there is absolutely no topping that.
