today, protesters at the university of virginia encampment for gaza were tear gassed by police in full riot gear for “violating university policy.” that policy was changed at 11am this morning to ban tents on campus. police arrived on the scene by noon.
you probably unfortunately remember charlottesville from 2017 when white supremacists marched through uva grounds and the city. they carried torches and chanted “jews will not replace us” and walked through the streets with arms raised in nazi salutes. they killed one person and injured 30+. police did not arrive until the following day, after white supremacists unlawfully marched through grounds on the evening of august 11th.
i don’t think any university can claim to be as hypocritical as uva. the discrepancy in police and administration reaction between each of these protests is uncanny and horrifying. uva students were asking for the university to disclose its investments and divest from any support or profiting from israel’s genocide against palestine. they were protesting in a nonviolent, unobtrusive way (although not necessary for a protest to be worthwhile) and police escalated to violence.
a lot of critiques of those opposing the palestinian genocide claim that the opposition comes from a place of antisemitism. today the uva police and administration demonstrated perfectly that that is a thinly veiled shield to hide behind. nazis chanting that “jews will not replace” them are allowed on grounds. students protesting israel’s genocide of the palestinian people are not.
met gala was an absolute flop this year. almost nobody was on theme, the guest list was a highly… interesting choice on the gala’s part and the only looks that really served were sir lewis hamilton & taylor russell’s, who are people that would both look hot wearing bin bags
not to beat a dead horse but its wild that people are mad about you calling yourself a "lesboy" when lesbianism and trans masculinity have historically been SUPER intertwined. especially when you bring butches into the conversation. he/him butches have always existed and trans men who identify with lesbianism have always existed. anyways i hope youre doing well and not letting the bullshit get to you.
so now that there has been a spike in antisemitic hate crimes (in some areas rising over 1000%), synagogues have been vandalized, firebombed, and literally razed, jews have been assaulted in public, jewish businesses have been vandalized, jewish homes and businesses have been marked with the star of david, and a man broke into his jewish neighbor's home intending to murder the entire family for being jewish, are we gonna get an apology from the people who were mocking jews for being afraid of an increase in antisemitism after oct. 7th?
(this is, of course, a rhetorical question. we all know that those people never cared about jews.)
capcom saying Ashley and Leon can't hold hands cus someone might ship them and then making them the most physically in contact just-met-duo I've seen outside of ecclestons doctor is hilarious

people critizing those of us upest about the finale and claiming that people dont have media literacy are conveniently forgetting the fact that the creators have been pedaling this show as groundbreaking for the queer community since day one (and it WAS). so when youre attempting to pioneer a genre/theme (in this case, queer love) it's perfectly reasonable for people to have critique of how things are handled. hell, i happen to think there are plenty of ways Izzy could have had a gratifying death in the show. But thats not what happened. Let people have their feelings about. Just block people if you dont like their take, it's not that hard. But maybe take a moment to think about why people are upset.
