Got that taxidermy thing going on. Unilope in progress!! My rabbit is a domestic breed so I opted to spend the time to make my own form rather than buy and alter a commercial one, which would have cost me more money that way too. This way I can get the general pose I’m looking for right away! The body is glued up and will need to be carved yet. The legs are separate and will be attached later upon completion of the body. They will be screwed on so I can remove and fit them into the pelt as I go. The legs are rough and will be cut at the joints so I can wire the entire leg for strength and durability. It also gives me a little extra freedom to tweak the pose while I work. The head and neck I will probably do the same way once carved because I want him looking off to one direction rather than forward.

I’ve been obsessed with Unicorns and this popped into my head after a sleepless night, so I slapped it down.  Lopers belong to @zooophagous, go check out some kickass art.  Made the hair match my new haircut, as well as my halloween wig.

I like the idea of a Uniloper because they would not be anywhere near the associations of purity and virtue.

Fourth time’s the charm??? Anyway, unilope in progress, initial carving complete. I still need to get his horn and test fit the skin to see if I need to do any more carving before I move on to clay and the actual mounting of the skin. This is my first mount and I’m slightly nervous!! Anyway....Enjoy!!

Working on my unilope. This skin I got for cheap because the people were using a new tan which this skin didn't take very well, it has a large slip spot down its left flank from the tanning process. While I was turning and removing the ear cartilage, fur slipped from behind the ears down the back of the neck. So I'm planning to mount him now in a half loaf half lounging position with his ears tucked back and his hind legs stretched out. It should hide the missing fur from behind his ears and from his side. You can see the slip spot in the last photo. This fella was bought along with two other buns who will also be unilopes but this guy seemed the perfect test skin as this is my very first mount. He's teaching me a lot already! The eyes were fun, I painted them 3 different times before I was really satisfied. It was a fun challenge but unless I do something like galaxy or mirror eyes (which I do plan to do), I will probably buy pre painted ones for future mounts, but I wanted to try! The ear liners are hand made from a milk jug since they don't make commercial ear liners for domestic breeds! Going to heat them with a hairdryer to get them to hold a rounded shape a little better before I use them. Should work great though! Need to ask my buddy at work what adhesive he uses for ears because he said he uses a 5-10 min glue so you work the ear until it sets up but then you're done with them pretty quick. I need to get some foam for carving the head and body but I'm getting there!
