so weird to me that in unfriended when it was val’s death absolutely none of them notice like the very obviously open bottle of bleach right next to her cause i feel like i would have noticed it right away.

it does wonders for adding to the suspense tho bc the viewer notices it before the characters so there’s like an oh fuck i know what’s happening here element

October 10th: Found Footage | Unfriended

IMPORTANT: This film's plot revolves around a disturbing subject matter. Although I don't go into detail on it, I talk about it a bit in the warnings and you can probably tell what it is from the movie poster. If you've got any interest in this movie, please read the warnings. Take care of yourself, folks

Unfriended was released in 2014 and was directed by Levan Gabriadze. On the one-year anniversary of the death of their friend Laura, Blaire (Shelley Hennig) and her friends are spending the evening together on a video call. But when an unknown user joins them claiming to be Laura, chaos starts to break loose as the friends are forced to reveal their darkest secrets.

The Found Footage sub-gerne is still relatively new compared to many others, and its creation is attributed to the infamous The Blair Witch Project. There aren't many found footage films (at least good ones), so instead on focusing on the well-known film that started the sub-genre, I decided to focus on a different movie. What makes Unfriended such an interesting film is not just the fact that it appears to be screen-recorded from a computer, but also that it feels very realistic. The main character Blaire has multiple tabs open on her computer that she switches between and when she types messages, we actually get to see her delete text as she tries to get her words right. It is incredibly dedicated to the premise and never breaks the immersion it provides the audience except at the very end of the movie. Although it isn't one of the best horror movies, Unfriended managed to put a delightful twist on a still-developing sub-genre.

I could not find any platforms where you can watch it for free.

SUMMARY: A teen comes into possession of a new laptop and soon discovers that the previous owner is not only watching him but will also do anything to get it back.

In mod Sus' opinion, much better than the original one, this one has a lot of scary and unsettling scenes and consepts. Quite a few scenes still live with them, especially the alternative ending. Very big recommendation for this.
