Vaughan is as excellent as he always wasâ a tragic portrait of quiet dignity meeting sheer pigheadedness and#unbending yet naturally servile nature. Aldridge and Maxwellâ thoâ are the scene stealers as the owner (?) and head expert of the auction#house respectivelyâ a pair of upper class grotesques who nevertheless display surprising nuance and depth as the plot develops#(particularly Maxwell). less politically motivated than many PfTs (not that it is at all apolitical: communismâ the soviet unionâ wartime#looting and princess Diana all figure into the story) but a genuinely very compellingly told and entertaining play that manages moments#of real sharp comic dialogue alongside a gloomier slant on the inevitability of dishonest dealings at every level

sometimes, you dislike a piece of media that is very popular and objectively well made. the popularity of it will only make it more annoying to you. now, the solution is not to then comb through a thing you donât like to see if you can find something problematic to harp on to prove it's actually bad (you will find it, no human being has ever created perfectly inclusive perfectly inoffensive art) that just tanks the vibe and discourages new art because what's the point if it can never be perfect, also sometimes you spin out of control and start accusing people of real life crimes over like... a niche webseries
as someone with over three decades of 'bad taste' under their belt, allow me to guide you on best responses using a real life example of a popular film series, i couldn't give less of a fuck about. the nolan batman trilogy
block, mute, blacklist, whatever you have to do to avoid seeing this thing on your preferred webbed sites
allow yourself a quiet âugh this shitâ when things slip through the cracks
pick a neutral element of the thing to dislike when people ask âiâm not really a batman fan" "i like more lighthearted superhero movies"
when inevitably someone can't BELIEVE you don't LOVE the best thing EVER MADE, you make it boring to talk about "yeah couldn't get into it" "it's just not my thing"
it also helps if you admit that it is good (i'm so sorry) just not good to you. the metaphor i use is gordon ramsey could make the most immaculate mushroom risotto ever made, but it's still not going to taste good if you don't like mushrooms
change the subject/leave the convo. i don't sit around listening to ppl talk about the dark knight, i ignore the gc for a few minutes, i go get a drink irl, if it's one on one i go "no, but you know i did like birds of prey, have you seen that?"
if someone really won't let up, stop talking to them! a guy who always wants to talk about how i should watch batman is a fucking weird guy to know
vent about this with like minded people SPARINGLY, too much and you'll fall down the "and everyone who does like it is morally bankrupt" hole
crucially, don't do this to other people for stuff you like. you're not the arbiter of taste, your "best movie ever" could be someone else's "if i have to hear about that shit again i'll scream"

#im not kidding#my major motivation for stories is either: wow I have deep thoughts on this idea and need to put it to paper#or giggling over stupid scenarios#started my lockwood fic and its either deep discussion on PTSD life/death and the trials of child soldier found families#but also Zany As Fuck shenanigans#Holly and Skull are going to have the most lovingly antagonistic relationship#He gets under her skin the way no one else can#Lucy needs to hide Skull at least twice a week because Holly has had Enough and has a Big Hammer#its what she deserves

Iâm mostly staying off the Mouthwashing fandom bc I personally donât want to put myself through whatever discourse is ever going on there. But know I love Anya and Mouthwashing is one of the best games Iâve played that had an SA survivor AND was respectful about it!! The abuse Anya suffered is never portrayed as a spectical for the audience to leer at. They use the art of implication VERY well, and in the end Anya gets to go out dignified. Sheâs not just Jimmyâs tradgic victim, sheâs her own character who makes her own decisions. Jimmy doesnât get to kill her, she expresses her own agency to do so. Sheâs also the one who kept the gun away from him for so long. Also sheâs SO fucking strong, sheâs so cool. Anya I love you.
Also the gameâs overarching (but subtle) commentary on rape culture, enabling, and how capitalism almost makes a set dressing for it is peak.

I just wanted to say that I love your art style! Your use of color is really pretty and I love the way you draw blushing. Also, I'm curious about JD's other ex Barley I think was his name. If you don't mind, could you tell us more about him? Like did he and JD end on good terms?
Oo, yes! I've been meaning to do more with Barley!
Barley and JD met while Barley was herding the lonesome flats buffalo critters and JD was passing through the prairie. They set up camp in the same area and got to talking and found they really enjoyed each other's company. JD followed on the same trail for a couple of days, doing his own thing with Rhonda and then at night they would camp together, sing songs and share a drink and a meal.
But JD was on his way somewhere so when the trail split off they went their separate ways. For a while JD would go back to that area around Lonesome Flats and see if he could find Barley again but he had no luck for a while. Next time he ran into Barley he made note of the migration pattern of the buffalo so that he could "happen upon" his friend again. So they would spend a couple of weeks together on the trail every 3 months or so and you know..... Maybe they fell in love a little bit but their lives weren't conducive to a relationship at that point so they just appreciated the companionship đđ§Ą

unpopular opinion: borderlands (2024) has many MANY issues but the actors' age isn't one of them. in fact, they easily could've made a fantastic BL movie populated only by ugly octogenarian+ actors.
#you could age up every borderlands adult character in every game and it wouldn't make a single difference to the plot#concept: the og vault hunters arrived on pandora as a sort of shitty retirement scheme under crushing intergalactic capitalism. go.#(one of the characters uses a walker just to really hammer home that they're all Old now) (its bloodwing)#also no one needs to be pretty this is pandora it's fine#even moxxie and the sirens only need to be attractive to the other characters. we the audience don't need to find them hot or whatever#borderlands 2024
