Ghost Jam 2024 results

The results of Ghost Jam 2024 are here!

This year we had a total of 24 ghosts submitted, by 36 participants! The number of overall ghosts continues to hold steady, while the number of people joining the event has increased!

Of the submitted ghosts, 5 completed the 72 Hour challenge (with multiple ghosts being submitted a day or more before the 72 hour deadline!), 10 completed the Add an Extra challenge, and 12 completed the New Assets Only challenge. We saw many wonderful interpretations of the optional celestial theme, as well!

Once again, we've seen a huge variety in the styles of ghosts released, and many new and interesting angles explored! Please give every single one of them a try if you can, I promise it will be worth your time.

Hello, and I hope today finds you Hydrated! Hydrate day (8/20) has once again come and gone, and that means we had another 8/20 Hydrate Shell Jam in the Ukagaka Dream Team Discord server!

Not sure what that is? Please check last year's event results for more info! In short, August 20th is considered "Hydrate day", so I host an event where folks make new shells for @internetteacup and I's drink reminder ghost Hydrate! The only """rule""" for what a shell can be is that it must be something that could theoretically hold liquid, or it must itself be liquid.

As you can see from the banner above, this leads to all kinds of creative entries! This year, we had 12 shells created by 11 devs. And many of those shells have animations and/or dressups! Definitely download and check them all out, the banner doesn't do them justice.

Hey! Do you have any information regarding Rotten Heaven and their creations? I specifically would like to know more about Busuko and Honue. Thank youuu <3

Hi, I'm not sure exactly what kind of info you're looking for so I'll just go with a basic introduction of the Artist and his contribution to Ukagaka.

Rotten Heaven is a website created by artist Watazou/Wat ｢real name: Tomohiko Watanabe｣. The website was created in 2001, firstly as a tripod website and got delete somewhere in late 2016. The website mainly served as a diary, gallery and download site for his creations.

About: Watazou is a sucker for metal music (who would've thought ?) his favorite groups being Death Angel, Exodus, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, etc. He also loves Vocaloid, most notably Miku & Luka, drawing various fanart & having a collection. He also wrote in his dairy about events and festivals he went to. Wat also was a fan of Hellboy and Mike Mignola. On his Twitter he has been posting a lot about Uma Musume: Pretty Derby.

Watazou was very active in the Ukagaka community, he notably created various original Ukagaka Ghosts over the years which were all very complete.

🥀The Toxic Waltz [2001]

"Slash-hardcore clothing and fast-paced animation, high tension and angry conversations will transport you to a world that cannot be replicated. She is also known for her funny interactions with other Ghosts, and is in any case a ghost with a high degree of communication excellence."

Ghost consisting of Busuko "Diva Satanica" her companion Honeyu and her sisters, Kusuko "Chemical Warfare" & Kakuko "Atomic Smasher". An additional shell would later be created for Busuko, called Busyakko or Yakko for short.

🦴Hone Hone Oyako [2006]

Ghost consisting of Honeyu and his daughter Honue who can also be spotted in the Ghost The Toxic Waltz, randomly appearing. She features multiple Outfits which are randomised at launch.

🪦RottenHeaven - Graveyard Lovesong [2008]

Ghost consisting of RottenHeaven, a living dead girl, inspired by the Frankenstein's monster & her companion Heartache. RottenHeaven's scripts are mostly written in Hiragana/Katakana with no Kanji.

Un addition to that, he also created a number of Ghosts, notably clock ones, Shells for Ghosts such as 54 or Talker, a Ghost named "Raven" for the baseware Crow, participated in art books and drew fanart of various other Ghosts. His own creations, most Notably Busuko for The Toxic Waltz was featured in many fanart within the community and fan games such UkaSamsh & U-New de Bomber XP. A fansite The Toxic Alliance (毒子同盟) would even be created by fans of The Toxic Waltz

On a last note, Wat notably collaborated with Ryūō Zero/Zero-r, creator of the Ghost Blood Tea House, to create a series of merch featuring Busuko & Urako for the Ukagaka Anniversary Event of 2012.

And there you go, I hope this answers some of your questions, there's definitely some information that I haven't seen being shared by many users before so that should teach people a few things. Looking into this made me love Watazou's work even more.

do you have any tips for inexperienced ghosters?

and is there a specific way you'd recommend organizing ideas / information?

if you're going to be asking about ukagaka development, I strongly suggest joining the ukagaka dream team server instead of coming to me on here. there's people far more experienced with ukagaka development than I am who are also very forthcoming with information. don't feel overwhelmed by the amount of people on there, very few are actually active, but the ones that are have a lot of experience.

I'm there too so I'll be able to help you there personally as well if I can, but pls don't use me as your only source!!! I've only finished one ghost and made the shell for another

as for your questions:

this ended up wordy but I feel like this is a necessary warning, especially if you're using the Girl and Triangle template

Right now the most comprehensive guide/template for ghost creation is the one on ashido.com. I've personally found a lot of use for it and it covers the process of ghost creation very well! The template is likewise full of helpful functions and commentary. Far as I'm aware this is what a lot of people use for their first ghost, so I have to presume you're using it as well.

But the template the guide provides has an unfortunate side effect, and since Aster was built with it, it also may have contributed to it: it can make an impression that ALL ghosts, including ones you make, have to be just as complex or full of features.

Despite the comments saying that you don't have to fill out/even have a function, you may feel like throwing away anything sacrifices the quality of your ghost, or you may feel that it won't be complete that way.

Please don't fall into that trap!!!! This is something I've experienced making Aster, though lucky for me, most features make sense for them, their character being a literal virtual assistant. Not all functions may be fitting for your character!

Most features within that template are Completely Optional, and all your ghost needs to be a good ghost is just creative random talk and a decent shell. This is why Aster's page suggests using Simplicity template as base, it's what I'm using to make Terror Star! So that I can gradually add any functions I may need for it, instead of having an entire shopping list of things I feel like I Have to fill in, even if it may Say I don't have to.

But I feel like the g&t template is still good for studying how to use some functions for shiori events, if you use any! Since the creation of that guide there's also been an entire page of shiori events translated. So once you have some grasp on how the events work, you can just use whatever you need from there. you can also study other ghosts to see how they do things instead!

There's a saying that most developers never finish their first ghost, and I feel like this is a pretty big part of the reason why! Ultimately keep the scope of your ghost small, it doesn't have to be nowhere near as big or daunting of a project as it may seem.

I've personally used Google keep for a todo list and dialogue drafts while making aster, and rn I'm trying out Obsidian, but literally anything works as long as it works for you! some folk also use Google docs for their planning. don't be afraid of playing around with different software tbh

Handplates: Last-Minute Notes, Foreword, and Key!

I'm currently going over the first 10 pages in preparation for uploading. Making small fixes, doing some last proofreading. I'm hoping to be done today, but I've had some distractions. In the meantime, this is the preluding post to Handplates. Keep reading for the foreword!

Foreword: I’ll try and not be too much a fanboy and keep this short!

It’s a great honor to be able to work with zarla on this! I’m doing most of the legwork while zarla just double-checks to make sure everything looks fine. Whether she realises it or not, the Handplates AU was a massive game-changer in terms of fanfiction and fanon within the Undertale community. It helped spawn several dub channels, inspired many to begin writing their own AUs, and ignited multiple curious lore-hunters into inventing science behind Souls in Undertale! It was also one of the first long-term AU projects, and one of the longest that ended up being completed. In my opinion, Handplates is definitely one of the main reasons Undertale found its home on Tumblr. Handplates will always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope this transcription will do it justice and serve as my love letter to this eight-year project. Here’s hoping it won’t take me as long to undertake this transcription!

Key:

[Italicised brackets will include environments first when applicable, then the actions taking place.]

Character: Spoken lines will have the character’s name then the line after a colon.

Character: (Internal Monologue) Internal monologues will be like spoken lines, except written in italics and will have “Internal Monologue” in parenthes for the first of that page, and “IM” every instance after.

Gaster: (signing) Gaster gets a special set of rules! If he is speaking in cipher around those who understand it (Subject 1 and Subject 2) it will be a spoken line. However, if it is around or to those who need sign language, the indicator “signing” will appear. Imply that he is always speaking when signing.

Gaster 2: (in cipher) Sometimes Dr. Gaster won’t sign when speaking to those who need it. In these cases, his lines will be preceded with “in cipher” in parentheses. Again, while we the reader know what he’s saying, those he’s speaking to can’t understand him.

Other notes: For the time being, I intend on writing events of panels in the order that makes most sense. For instance, sometimes in a panel, a character will be reacting to something said in the panel, so I may write the line first, then the character’s appearance.

Last thoughts:

I am NOT a professional! I’m doing this completely voluntarily and on my own time! I’m keeping things easy on myself with relatively lax uploading schedules, as well as having a bit of wiggle room with more pages prepared.

That being said, I would love to accept your criticism! If you use a screenreader or often require text descriptions, PLEASE tell me what I’m doing wrong or right!

Adoption Jam

At around 5:40 p.m. on August 7, 2002 a guerrilla live performance by “Nini Radio” was held on a pedestrian road in front of the Messe Sanoh game store (now Trader) on Chuo-dori in Akihabara Electric Town, Tokyo, with a packed crowd of fans blocking off half of the roadway. According to discussion boards and news outlets, at least 1000 fans of Ukagaka gathered in the streets illegally and screamed “ｷﾀ━━━(ﾟ∀ﾟ)━( ﾟ∀)━( 　ﾟ)━(　　)━(ﾟ 　)━(∀ﾟ )━(ﾟ∀ﾟ)━━━!!!!!” and sung along to the opening themesong until a full police car arrived and a small riot broke out, people began to quickly pack up and disperse, the live performance was stopped early at 5:55.

Update on the rp

I realized I actually didn't reblog all the drawings I did for the rp. Whoops ? Guess I should do that. Though I don't think I'm gonna reblog all the base records, they're already listed on the rp blog. I may reblog only a few of them, the recent ones.

For the updates about it, I completely gave up on them. Too much stuff are happening and I was far too late on them. It was fun and nice, but I couldn't do them anymore. All the important events are listed in the lore part of the @ukagaka-zim blog, the story arcs and their tags are listed in the pinned post, and I now have a new rp blog, @agnt-of-chaos, of the Resisty AU @gotta-resisty.

If someone wanna have more details, my ask box is open on all my blogs, including this one. I generally don't get a lot of ask at all for @ukagaka-zim, despite a lot of things only being mentionned on the blog but never in details (like Luka's timeline). I'm gonna put my drawings in a queue and probably disappear (like usual) once I don't have anything to post anymore. There is also a fanfic incoming. A finished one, done in collaboration with @fastenwick.

8/20 Hydrate Shell Jam 2023 Results

Hello, and I hope today finds you hydrated! If you're not aware, yesterday (8/20) was Hydrate Day, and that means we had the 8/20 Hydrate Shell Jam in the Ukagaka Dream Team discord server!

In 2020, @internetteacup and I made a drink reminder ghost on 8/20, called Hydrate. Since then, many folks have made shells for it to give it different looks! The only """rule""" I've given is that any given shell must be something that could—at least in theory—hold liquid. And folks have taken that idea and made all kinds of strange and fun "drinking apparatus" with it!

So, now I host an event on 8/20 where folks have 1 day to make shells for the ghost! It's a fun creative exercise, it's a really easy way to get into ukagaka dev if you've never done it before, and we have a lot of fun seeing what folks make.

I hosted this event last year as well, but never shared it on Tumblr. You can see the results of that here!

So, with that context given, here are the results of this year's event! We had 11 entries by 9 participants, most of which have dressups of some kind, and a few which are animated.

Paint Splatter, by StrangelyKai. A splat of paint, which comes in a variety of colors and patterns, and even has instructions on how to add your own!

Planetary, by WhatAPhantasia. A whole entire planet to drink! Comes with an appropriately sized straw, and some other dressups.

Reassurance Bucket, by OdieDogXP. The reassurance bucket from The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe! Comes with a few sticker dressups.

Tiered Bowls, by Zichqec. A set of tiered bowls, which hang from the top of the screen! A dressup can be used to turn the water on or off.
