Need subtitles help !
Is anybody good at transcribing and wants to contribute English captions for the 2 hour turbo/king candy analysis video? I have a file that’s already been started and can DM it if you’re interested 👉👈
I'm not really sure how trading off the file with multiple people will work, but might as well try something…

Started transcribing The Haunting of Hill House the other day. Probably won’t transcribe it all. So far I’m reading one section ahead and then deciding if I’m transcribing it or not. Transcribing always gets me excited for when I can finally write my pens dry and switch out the colours. I love my current palette but I still have some more samples I haven’t tried out in pens yet.

how I transcribe videos
To anyone who writes video descriptions, I've found a really useful tool for transcribing videos! The website Veed.io has an automatic, online tool where you can upload a video (up to 10 minutes long I believe) and it will generate subtitles, which I've found to be pretty accurate with the videos I've given it so far. (I haven't tried anything with a lot of music or with heavy accents, so ymmv on those, but it was still decently accurate on one that had a lot of sound effects)
Once you upload a video, choose "auto transcribe" and then whatever language is being spoken. It'll take a minute or so to generate the subtitles.
Then to download the subtitles as text, it tells you sign up for their paid subscription. HOWEVER, you can just copy and paste the subtitles shown in the video editor instead. You'll need to manually add spaces between each line when doing this, but it's still usually easier and faster than transcribing the full audio yourself, especially on long videos.
I will note that uploading videos to the site when using Firefox hasn't worked for me lately. I'm not sure if that's a problem with the browser in general or something about the settings I use, but I just switch to a different browser to generate the transcript and it works fine.
If anyone wants me to explain the process more, let me know! I'd be happy to make a more detailed post with screenshots and stuff.

Hi I'm Dorian, 19, trans, nonbinary, queer. Okay girlies, gays and theys, had a major writer's block but lack of money is doing a great job. I'm trying to earn some so I'm opening commissions, I write fanfics and poetry and I can transcribe anything you need, edit and review it. Pretty much sos.
Because I live in Eastern Europe only PayPal is accessible to me. I'm going to charge 5 to 10 € per 1000 words (depending on your request, genre etc, this is sth we can discuss together). Even if you are not interested in commissioning I would really appreciate a reblog just to spread the post. Please help.

Okay, obviously need to darken the character names and replace labels when I get to the points where names are mentioned, but how are we all feeling about this transcript for Sanctuary?
Do I need to give scene mentions? I'm not trying to recreate the script, just transcribe.
(Also, obviously this is just a screenshot of the top of it, this is not all I have done)

From this point onwards I will follow the course of events by transcribing my own letters to Mr. Sherlock Holmes which lie before me on the table.

I realise mine isn't the only drama that occurred [during WWI], my forefathers also had to fight blood, sweat and tears for rights we have now, especially the right to vote. Don't let them take it from you.

Handplates: Last-Minute Notes, Foreword, and Key!
I'm currently going over the first 10 pages in preparation for uploading. Making small fixes, doing some last proofreading. I'm hoping to be done today, but I've had some distractions. In the meantime, this is the preluding post to Handplates. Keep reading for the foreword!
Foreword: I’ll try and not be too much a fanboy and keep this short!
It’s a great honor to be able to work with zarla on this! I’m doing most of the legwork while zarla just double-checks to make sure everything looks fine. Whether she realises it or not, the Handplates AU was a massive game-changer in terms of fanfiction and fanon within the Undertale community. It helped spawn several dub channels, inspired many to begin writing their own AUs, and ignited multiple curious lore-hunters into inventing science behind Souls in Undertale! It was also one of the first long-term AU projects, and one of the longest that ended up being completed. In my opinion, Handplates is definitely one of the main reasons Undertale found its home on Tumblr. Handplates will always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope this transcription will do it justice and serve as my love letter to this eight-year project. Here’s hoping it won’t take me as long to undertake this transcription!
-Basil
P.S. I am absolutely writing every word of this with the Gaster Ukagaka (Link here: zarla-s gaster ghost post) hanging out on my desktop.
Key:
[Italicised brackets will include environments first when applicable, then the actions taking place.]
Character: Spoken lines will have the character’s name then the line after a colon.
Character: (Internal Monologue) Internal monologues will be like spoken lines, except written in italics and will have “Internal Monologue” in parenthes for the first of that page, and “IM” every instance after.
Gaster: (signing) Gaster gets a special set of rules! If he is speaking in cipher around those who understand it (Subject 1 and Subject 2) it will be a spoken line. However, if it is around or to those who need sign language, the indicator “signing” will appear. Imply that he is always speaking when signing.
Gaster 2: (in cipher) Sometimes Dr. Gaster won’t sign when speaking to those who need it. In these cases, his lines will be preceded with “in cipher” in parentheses. Again, while we the reader know what he’s saying, those he’s speaking to can’t understand him.
Other notes: For the time being, I intend on writing events of panels in the order that makes most sense. For instance, sometimes in a panel, a character will be reacting to something said in the panel, so I may write the line first, then the character’s appearance.
Last thoughts:
I am NOT a professional! I’m doing this completely voluntarily and on my own time! I’m keeping things easy on myself with relatively lax uploading schedules, as well as having a bit of wiggle room with more pages prepared.
That being said, I would love to accept your criticism! If you use a screenreader or often require text descriptions, PLEASE tell me what I’m doing wrong or right!
If you like and support what I’m doing, hit that like! Hit that reblog! Let me know, share the love!

Transcription troubles
Sometimes you have to just put [...] because the letter looks like this.... Thankfully he's just talking about the Pasha of Baghdad attacking Kerbela & the English press getting the story all wrong instead of interesting personal info. Fitzjames had already said this on an earlier page of the letter, but he tells Barrow again that the Clio will carry money and jewels as freight from which Fitzjames will get a few hundred pounds. Our chap is making some money! (James Fitzjames to John Barrow on 25 December 1843, RGS)

I am so very excited because I'm about to start working on writing out some sheet music for Rosymorn Monastery (from the Baldur's Gate 3 OST) which WILL take me quite some time considering I'm also a full time college student and working on a solo vocal recital lol but this song has been in my head for such a long time and I've been dying to transcribe it.
It's such an incredible piece of music, I wish it wasn't so underrated ripp
Will definitely be posting updates periodically until either I'm finished or have gotten stuck on something and unable to find help. (I already know musescore is gonna be a pain)
Yippee!!! :)

Today I am transcribing this essay. I love it for many reasons, so much so, that I almost included it in her autobiography 💛 It will be included, however, in my next venture: The Collected Essays of Sonia H. Davis.
