These may include the use of counterfeit chemicals, unsafe/unknown ancilliary ingredients or variability of potency etc. More information can be found here (link to nhs website). // b) Do not initiate or continue prescribing puberty surpressing hormones or gender affirming hormones. Discuss with your line manager and your organization's safeguarding team.

In black text on white background, from the news article linked above-> It seems to us - and to those inside the NHS who have leaked the document to us - that what purports to be an "assessment" in fact an exercise in bringing very significant pressure to bear on trans youth and their families to cease private treatment, backed up with a threat of a safeguarding referral to social services if they do not. // We are concerned about what appears to be a misleading exercise in gathering data on which trans youth are obtaining private treatment from abroad, for the purposes of seeking to cause or compel them to stop treatment.
In the same thick white text on black background as previous image-> So an internal NHS document has been leaked basically asking trans kids on excruciatingly ling waiting lists to come to a 'mental health assessment' where the NHS will harvest their personal information & threaten their families with a social services referral if they're found to be on private blockers/hormones & refuse to come off them. // This country is for dogs i swear.

Roman Manfredi We/Us
Butches and Studs from working class backgrounds within the British landscape
Co-curated by Ingrid Pollard
Exhibition: 9 March – 3 June 2023 at Space station 65, Kennington, London
Opening hours: 12 – 6PM, Wednesday – Saturdays
Free to visit. Accessible. All welcome.
We/Us is an intergenerational photography and oral history project that celebrates the presence of butches and studs from working-class backgrounds within the British landscape. The project explores the experience of female masculinity through the structures of class and race all over the UK, capturing our diversity as well as our commonality.
When searching for images of butches and studs online, most that come up are from a bygone era, or from the US. Conversations around gender and identity today are often academic and London-centric, sometimes forgetting that our identities are informed by our every day lived experiences.
Our history and our lived experience is our gift to the world.

last night i got home kind of tipsy and very much in tears and my mother told me the force you exert to keep someone in your life is proportional to the force with which they will leave your life. if you have to fight tooth and claw to keep them, their leaving will be just as hard, just as harsh, and just as definite.
#she said it like a law. its just momentum.#also she told me to get a therapist and start archery ASAP bc i need to get it together#and also she said even granting that this person u were in love w was So Special . as in hot motorcycle-riding iranian masc lesbian in ldn#they arent the only one on earth and that once i start my proper adult life outside of studies etc etc i will probably no longer live in th#UK. she said most non straight iranians u would like have left the country anyway . where do you think they went? theyre out there#and also she asked me to imagine how many hot gay iranians there may be in italy or amsterdam or smth and i was like ok points 😭 maybe#ur right. anyway i was having a feeling of dread bc crying into the arms of ur strict asian mother while buzzed usually results in#death chaos destruction etc in the next few days but actually i think maybe she has genuinely changed as a person and the fear is#unwarranted#anyway i need to eat breakfast and study w the date person i met yesterday#they are so nice ??? genuinely so so sweet i dont feel attracted to them at all omg i genuinely think i have a thing for hot evil ppl 😭#but we could b besties . theyre a lot more romantic than the ex situationship person too like generally . ugh they should be perfect but#alas it appears i am shallow as fuck or potentially a lesbian actually#OH THEY MIGHT ALSO BE POTENTIALLY A LESBIAN BTW#i think i just tend to not date cis ppl entirely by accident#....feel free to rb if u want btw sorry for the rant

"How would you plan to vet members?"
"Oh, with invasive and highly personal medical tests that take ages to get results and aren't always 100% reliable to make sure no 'men' get in because I'm sure my club will have that level of interest and importance!"
Ok so then...I as a ftm trans masc could likely pass most if not all of these tests (T count pending...) despite being neither a woman nor a lesbian.
A bi or ace AFAB person could too and we know she's not ok with those kinds of people calling themselves lesbians.
Hell, a cishet woman could pass those tests.
If you're a cis lesbian, honestly, would you actually want to go through those tests just to enter a guaranteed no trans femme club? Because that's just so strange to me.
Strange she'd think it's appropriate to ask people to do that and strange that people not being cis angers her that much.
In a world where trans people can safely disclose their trans identity, those of you with a genital preference who don't want to date us would have no fear. It would just be another polite exchange when deciding if you're compatible with someone. Those of you who just hate the trans identity and would also be disgusted by a no-op trans masc are doomed though. Maybe live a little.

PSA: LGBT mental healthcare in the UK.
The UKCP, one of the UK's biggest psychotherapy groups, has withdrawn from the memorandum on conversion therapy. This means they no longer commit to ending conversion therapy practices, including the harmful "exploratory therapy" model designed to browbeat you into being cisgendered (and will never let you transition). Please, please check whether your therapist is a member. They may not be safe.
If you're a young trans person and you're not sure what "exploratory therapy" is, you can read up here. It's spearheaded by the likes of Stella O'Malley, a member of SEGM, who has been behind many of the anti-trans bills in the US. They are backed by shady far right/christo-fascist money. They are dodgy and they can only get their pseudoscience published in quack journals. O'Malley has also been recorded calling masc lesbians fetishists.
Dr Christian Buckland, the chair, is deeply transphobic, so this is no surprise.

Animation Night 164: Yaoi, Yuri
The fashion on Tumblr lately has been to divide everything in the world into yaoi and yuri, hasn't it? Well, tonight we don't need to make any abstract stretches of the imagination: it's time for anime where boys kiss boys and girls kiss girls.
Tumblr media
So. Five minutes ago, before Tumblr deleted it, this post was off to a pretty good start! I was happily explaining about the differences of nuance between 少年愛 shōnen-ai, 耽美 tanbi, ジュネ june, やおい yaoi and ボーイズラブ bōizu rabu on the one hand, and on the other, why 薔薇 bara (rose) isn't a genre title but nevertheless the editor of 薔薇族 Barazoku ('rose tribe') magazine coined 百合 yuri as a distaff counterpart, the 'lily tribe', and that really caught on.
I was starting in on a brief sketch of some history, how Tokugawa Japan was super gay and had a defined set of social rules for gay relationships in the form of 男色 nanshoku, but this was squashed by the Meiji restoration, and thus gay manga became a subgenre cultivating its own specific otaku audience.
Tumblr media
So then I was gonna tell you about how the early shōjo manga focusing on gay relationships, taking the old term shōnen-ai [which originally referred to pederasty], were quite nerdy and literary, but the subgenre rapidly grew in the 70s and 80s, cultivating an otaku audience of its own - primarily women termed, somewhat disparagingly, 婦女子 fujoshi but this demographic breakdown is certainly not absolute and there is a term for male fans, which is 普段し fudanshi. We coulda gone into the whole world of doujinshi, of the massive convention comiket; I coulda cracked open Kimi Rito's History of Hentai Manga for some interesting tidbits about how certain images become encoded as symbols and then reused routinely in manga.
And you know, I might have talked about how this is distinct from manga aimed at gay readers in gay magazines (like the above mentioned 薔薇族 Barazoku) which might be termed ゲイ漫画 gei manga. Perhaps we might mention here the upcoming adaptation of gay manga meme sensation kuso miso technique:
youtube
I was maybe gonna talk a little about some of the older genre conventions of BL; the masc top or 攻め seme and the effeminate bottom or 浮け uke; maybe a little about how yaoi fandom got exported into anime fan culture in the West and the strange phenomenon of the 'yaoi paddle'.
Tumblr media
...well, it looks like I managed to skim over all that anyway. Spite works wonders for typing speed, it turns out. But believe me, that's really just surface level stuff. We're working on a followup to the legend of Animation Night 69, so we'll be able to get in a lot deeper in a few weeks~
Anyway, even today, BL and yuri works rarely get adapted into anime in a particularly high profile way. But 'rarely' is not never! In Animation Nights past, well: on Animation Night 69 we watched the delightful 風と木の詩 Kaze to Ki no Uta (The Song of Wind and Trees), an OVA adapting the seminal (ha ha) shōjo manga about a French twink at boarding school. That was the direction of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, known also for Venus Wars and definitely the subject of a future Animation Night, it was as moving and melodramatic as you could hope from 70s shōjo. Sayo Yamamoto (AN36) brought us the incredibly charming figure gay skating series Yuri on Ice; and then of course Kunihiko Ikuhara (AN155), bless his heart, made his always bold statements on yuri with Yurikuma Arashi ('Lesbian Bear Storm') and BL with Sarazanmai, which I will surely cover if we ever reach the point where we're like 'let's marathon a TV anime' again ;p
Tonight though? We'll be looking at a couple of relatively recent films on both sides of the fence.
Tumblr media
For the BL wing, we have the film 海辺のエトランゼ Umibe no Étranger, aka L'étranger de la Plage or Stranger by the Shore. Kanna Kii, the mangaka, had previously worked as an animator at Studio Hibari, a small anime studio that dates back to the late 70s and broadly seems to specialise in shōjo. Kii returned there to design characters and supervise the film, and evidently Hibari were very excited to adapt the work of their alumnus, because they absolutely spared no effort.
The story centres on orphaned highschooler Mio and his neighbour Shun, an aspiring gay novelist on a remote island in Okinawa. The pair grew close three years before the start of the story, but Mio had to leave Okinawa; we join him now as he returns to that same shore, still holding feelings for Shun.
I'll admit, I don't know a ton about this movie - but it comes highly recommended by kvin who described it as one of an 'oasis' of strong BL works released around 2020. And the clips I've seen - well, they're the gifs used in this post, really nicely drawn scenes of affection. So I'm pretty excited!
Tumblr media
Our yuri wing... well, there's a few good choices for yuri TV shows I could show you, but tonight it's late and we need something short and sweet, and that really narrows the field! What I have is あさがおと加瀬さん。Asagao to Kase-san [Kase-san and the Morning Glories], a one hour OVA adapting the manga 加瀬さん Kase-san by Hiromi Takashima. The OVA starts partway into the manga, when plant nerd Yui Yamada has already started dating her crush, the athletic Tomoka Kase. It follows the trials of the girls' relationship as they are coming towards the end of their time at school - relatively low-key, slice of life first relationship typea thing.
The animae was adapted by studio Zexcs under the direction of Takuya Satō, who you might remember as director of the first part of Armitage III [AN153]. Zexcs spun out of JC Staff at the end of the 90s, and they've been pretty busy since then - for me their most notable creation is Aku no Hana (The Flowers of Evil), a truly unique rotoscope anime with an incredibly engaging, tense story about teenagers and the imp of the perverse... which sadly never got the love it deserved! yes I'm still beating this drum!
Anyway, while I have not been able to find a ton of production information, I am told at least that Kase-san was a passion project for Satō - evidently a yuri fan given he also took on the adaptation of Otherside Picnic. It began first with five-minute web adaptation Kase-san and the Morning Glories in 2018 that's more of a musical montage of moments from the series, which was then able to be expanded the next year into an hour-long OVA...
youtube
A lot of romance stories focus on the characters getting together, so it's interesting that this one skips right over those chapters of the manga and gets going once the characters are already together, focusing more on the trials of an ongoing relationship between two goofy hormonal kids trying to figure out if this is just a class S thing or something that they want to last. A great deal of effort is put towards character animation, intimacy, the little flinches and reactions. You can read a little discussion about it here on ANN.
So! With apologies for the late start once more (T_T), it's time to begin! Animation Night will shortly be live at twitch.tv/canmom, and I hope you'll join me for a gay old time~

Here's a recent artical about them changing it (content warning: transphobia, TERF rhetoric):
[ID: a photo of Kemi Badenoch standing smiling, arms crossed, in front of a painting and a union jack flag. End ID].
I'm not sure how these links with pictures are for acessibility so I put an ID. The artical seems to be giving a pretty much blow-by-blow account. It doesn't counter the absolutely whacky shit being said, it's not an arguement against the changes. I don't know what it'll persuade people of but to me it is scary and sad.
Here’s a petition to try and stop the amendment of the Equality Act that would discriminate and transgender people.
You need to be a British citizen to sign this, and you have to use a confirmation email to have your signature be valid.

something that frustrates me is when you see an exclusionist or a bad actor say "X group doesn't experience oppression like Y does" the common response will be "you're right but that doesn't mean that X group doesn't still suffer."
the problem with this is not that it's an issue in a vacuum, that's a perfectly compassionate argument and an important one. people don't need to suffer "enough" to "deserve" to have their experiences taken seriously. comparing the suffering to two groups and punishing one of them for not meeting the standards of the other is an evil thing to do no matter what.
the problem is that nearly across the board it is wrong.
what it comes down to is that people Recognize invisibility and under exposure for certain groups. they recognize that certain marginalized identities aren't going to show up in the news or on a show, that they won't hear certain labels out of the mouths of their bigoted uncles at thanksgiving.
and that is taken As The Issue. that it is ignorance and ignorance alone that plagues the lives of the marginalized among the marginalized. what people don't understand is that invisibility doesn't mean that the marginalized do not suffer, it means that suffering isn't reported.
it's easy to take for granted the idea that X group doesn't experience outright violence when it's something that you haven't seen. And That's An Aspect Of Their Oppression. because when people don't know your rights are being violated then they don't know to help in the fight For those rights. even well meaning people will exclude marginalized groups from certain conversations because they don't realize they need to be there.
when people say, for instance, "Yes trans mascs don't face outright Violence from terfs, but the infantilization they face when terfs treat them like poor confused women that don't know what they're doing is still a kind of oppression"
what they Don't realize (and aren't taking into account) is that Statistically trans mascs face corrective rape and assault on similar levels to other trans demographics (among other forms of violence for that matter [Link 1, Link 2]. they Don't realize that there are Many Many instances of terfs openly fantasizing about doing Exactly That, of forcing trans mascs to turn into lesbians by having sex with them.
what they don't realize is that infantilization is a part of the Dehumanization and desire to strip autonomy and control away from trans mascs that they use to Justify their violence. that the perception of trans mascs as incapable, as needing to be rescued from blindly mutilating their own bodies, is a call to action.
sometimes that call to action is used to justify stripping the human rights of all trans people away through legislation, which we've seen most starkly with the focus on trans mascs in the uk. sometimes that call to action is personal violence. sometimes that call to action is indoctrination with the intent of abusing a trans masc into detransitioning.
what people see as Hurtful in words alone the victims see for the threat that it is.
I could make dozens of examples exactly like this (for instance, historically when trans mascs have been murdered it's been reported as violence against women. because when you're buried as a woman you don't have the voice to argue otherwise), and for a dozen other identities within the queer and lgbt+ communities (asexuals have a Very Similar story with their corrective rape statistics).
but what I want to impart with this post is the idea that you question assumptions about what a group does or does not experience. there's an entire world happening where you don't see it, and when somebody tries to cut an entire group of people out of an experience they're not doing it because they've Seen every corner of said world. question more than just the conclusions that they draw when they make these assumptions.
another thing of note: the more that these marginalized groups Do increase their visibility, the more we champion for their voices, the more this violence Will become overt. the more you Will hear about them in the news and on tv and from your bigoted uncle. and that violence won't be new, it'll just finally be drawn to the forefront. we've seen it before, and we're seeing it now.

this is the first time i’ve ever written a tumblr ask and i’m doing it bc i just love your writing so so much!! if you don’t mind, i’d like to ask for your two cents on how the story (saltburn and yah) would go if oliver was ftm?
i just wanted to say thank you, that i really like how you do characterisation and where you’re taking the story. <3
Hmm so in like... context? With it being 2007- I think a good (although not exactly bang on in terms of time) person to look at would be Jammidodger/Jamie Raines?
Ollie would probably be presenting as masc as possible but probably have little/no actual resources due to Section 28 and the internet being in its infancy. So probs still using she/her, although it feels wrong.
Felix would probably have thought Ollie was, y'know, one of those "rugby lesbians" or similar, just nerdy. If they became friends, then it'd have been a lot of-
"Ollie's basically just one of the lads though."
"I don't even see Olls as, like, a GIRL. She's not GIRLY."
"Haha Olls you're practically a bloke"
Which y'know
Gender euphoria but also BIG FEELINGS. Maybe Ollie finds a psych textbook in the library one day, or is going through some history thing and finds out about the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or finds a short story about someone who's trans and has that Oh No Moment.
"Felix, can I talk to you?"
"Yeah, Olls, what's up, mate?"
"I... I think... I think I'm a man."
"But Olls, you've got a..."
"Can you just read this?"
Felix, for his part, would probably be chill about it. He probably wouldn't fully GET IT, but Ollie is Ollie and his mum HAS to know SOMEONE... so he invites Ollie to Saltburn for the summer.
For YAH- so it would have to assume The Madness Happens, vs just Rich Family Help Trans Teen, because Ollie wouldn't have to lie to be interesting if he was transitioning in 2007. That would honestly be a real novelty, but maybe it starts feeling ghoulish and isolating. "This is Ollie, SHE is becoming a HE" and all that.
Oliver would absolutely be living under the radar, full bottom surgery DONE, still with the latent fear (especially because of how shit the UK is being towards trans folks) and Felix reappears and probably immediately goes "Oliviaaaaaar. Oliver. Hi."
