Jim Kirk Tarsus IV Fic Recs
This list will include all ratings and tags, so read at your own discretion! :)
Starfleet Academy for Gifted Youngsters by Ael - Not Rated
Starfleet Academy, home to carriers and mutants alike. Three years before Nero's attack on Vulcan, Jim Kirk and Leonard McCoy begin to forge what will one day be a legendary friendship. A series of snapshots of how it all began.
More than Innocence by CasualBanshee - Rated T
Throwaway one-shot. Jim Kirk survived Tarsus with more than just mental scars and how that could change the events in the second reboot film.
sound as stone by starknjarvis - Rated T
The three people who figured out that Jim was on Tarsus IV.
A Star To Light The Way (In which Jim never thought he’d live past 22, anyway) by AlyssiaInWonderland - Not Rated
A fic based around the following prompt excerpt on Tumblr: “So, captain,” she began, eyeing him mischievously. “Where would you be if you hadn’t joined up?” Jim shrugged nonchalantly, pursing his lips for a moment in thought. “Dead probably,” he finally replied, lightly but absolutely serious– oblivious to the shocked expressions of his crew around him. “Or halfway to it in a bar in Iowa somewhere.” Or, Nyota's journey from first meeting Kirk, to loving Jim, through three, increasingly angsty, incidents spanning Academy Era to post 2009 film.
Predetermined by BonesOfBirdWings - Rated T
James T. Kirk always goes to Tarsus IV - because George Kirk can die, Vulcan can be destroyed, and Jim can be resurrected, but Tarsus IV is immutable. OR - An exploration of the fanon fact that Jim always experiences the massacre on Tarsus IV, no matter the universe.
i think i'll keep you (like a secret) by hoosierbitch - Rated T
Bones came to Starfleet with a hell of a lot of baggage. Jim came empty handed.
Over Exposure by SadieYuki - Rated T
Jim would much rather deal with an army of assassins wielding pine nuts over having to weather the storm caused by this single video.
Five times Jim talked about Tarsus and one time Nyota heard him by jenny_wren - Rated M
Jim is not exactly over Tarsus but he's over it enough to be casual about it, so times when Jim nonchalantly horrified someone by being casual about Tarsus
Theory and Practice by Writer_at_the_Table - Rated T
He's sitting stiffly, back straight and face utterly blank. There is no laughter twinkling in his eyes. She feels wary at the sight of him, this cadet who only superficially resembles the one she thought she knew. Starfleet Academy professor Anita Cornerstone calls Cadet Jim Kirk to her office to discuss his response on an essay assignment. The conversation they have is not the one she was expecting.
The prison of your mind by EternalSheWolf - Rated T
The kid takes him to the ground, hard and fast, and the knife punches right through his throat. The man gurgles and blood sprays, and the kid’s head snaps up, blond hair flying everywhere, as he gives the blade a final, savage, twist and pulls it free. He’d know those eyes anywhere. It’s Jim Kirk.
Recognition by jademac2442 - Rated T
Based on the TOS episode Conscience of the King. Post Tarsus IV. Riley is assigned aboard the Enterprise. He recognizes Kirk.
Once More unto the Breach by AnEscapeFromReality - Rated T
James Kirk was the rudest student Professor Heleine ever taught. He stomped out of the middle of the professor's lecture like he wasn't a mere cadet. Well, the professor was done putting up with him. If he couldn't sit through an expert lecture, then he should give the lecture about Tarsus. That would teach him some respect.
Linguistic Ambiguities in Vulcan Ethical Codes by elumish - Rated T
The thing people always forget is that it was a Vulcan ship that reached Tarsus IV first.
A trail of crushed laurels by Kandelaar - Rated T
Jimmy Kirk isn’t an old soul stuck in a young body, his teachers whisper, he’s sharp, jagged edges and a too-bright mind wrapped in skin and bones all glued together with his stepdaddy’s fists.

the logic of love - Flappielxx - Star Trek: The Original Series [Archive of Our Own]
‘’They are in love, Spock.’’ She smiled, her dark brown, nearly black eyes lighting up.
‘’By their behaviour that could indeed be concluded, however I fail to see the logic in this distracting and overpowering association.’’

I had an idea for a fanfiction that I probably won't ever write, so here's the plot for you.
As usual, during their free time, the girls gather to spend time together, and of course, Spock is there too.
They have a kind of pajama party in Mama Duck's quarters, (aka Una's) , who loves having her little ducklings/daughters/crew members around.
When Una offers to braid La'an's hair, the others also express the desire to be "pampered," and Una couldn't be more excited.
Christine also gets two cute little braids, while Erica and Uhura, who's hair is too short, get their nails painted with pretty colors.
The little Spock duckling won't be excluded from this nice family time tho.
Since he has hair too short to style, and Una would never touch his hands to give him a manicure, knowing how sensitive and "personal" they are for Vulcans, she decides to do something else.
To solve the problem, she decides to experiment with makeup on him, and BOOM! Spock likes it, and that's how blue eyeshadow becomes a part of his everyday look.

the last convention i went to i was discussing trek with a guy and he triumphantly declared that reboot uhura is "a SLUT" and the look of panic in his eyes when he realised i wasn't laughing and just cringing was palpable. he went on to explain that "uhura never needed to be a love interest, she was better than that" oh lord
firstly, committed relationship with one man does not equal slut
more importantly: uhura wasn't allowed to be a love interest in the sixties due to racism. gene, leonard and nichelle wanted spock & uhura to be a thing but it literally was not allowed during those days. spock and uhura kissing and being together in the trek reboot movies is a show of how far we've come since then
im also frustrated with the notion that being in a romantic relationship diminishes a woman, in real life or in fiction
love, romance and sexuality does not subtract from a woman
yes, many female characters are reduced to love interests and nothing else, due to sexist writing. but that really doesnt apply to reboot uhura. for one thing, this is where they canonized her being a linguistics genius. and furthermore, feminism looks different for different types of women. white female love interests are dime a dozen, but its still to this day progressive for black women to be love interests because theres been a history of black women being underrepresented in media in general, including as people being worthy of being loved. i think that's an important thing for all oppressed groups to see in fiction. to love and be loved
did the reboot trek movies have any of this in mind? i fucking doubt it. do those movies have sexist writing? oh yeah. but man, uhura and spock being together was never a bad decision
long ago i saw a black woman say "i love seeing a woman like me be loved by spock" and ya know what? fuck everybody else, the star trek reboot movies are for her specifically. i think many trekkies can agree that being loved by spock would be an extra special honour
thank you for your time

Research Paper on Star Trek
Dear Fans of ST,
I am currently in college and I want to write about the history or Star Trek (focus on TOS) and how it impacted today's world (specifically fanfiction and gay rights but lets be real those flip phones and automatic doors deserve a place in writing.
Any help toward resources would be greatly appreciated. Currently I have internet archive with a few original pieces dating back to the 80s and 70s and the oldest fanfiction of k/s "A Fragment Out of Time".
K/S deserves to be archived, everything I have learned about the history of modern fanfiction can be linked back to ST:TOS and K/S, but only through fragments on this website and word of mouth. Without a proper recording of everything I am worried this will be overlooked and one day forgotten.
Thank you

As the band rose to a crescendo, Spock noticed a flare on the horizon. The orange glow spread behind the fireworks—he touched Kirk's arm and pointed. "Captain! Look!"
Kirk snapped to attention. "What is that, Spock?" He leaned to follow Spock's pointing arm.
"The art gallery," said Spock. A boom rolled out across square, drowning out the fireworks, the band, the crowd—the screams.
Spock squinted against the smoke and fluttering ashes. He couldn't hear against the deafening roar—the deafening silence. The fountain shook. He leapt clear, pulling the captain with him.

The Unknown Kind - Chapter 8 Preview - Quarantine
Fandom: Star Trek/Alien Title: The Unknown Kind Rating: Explicit (NC-17) Length: 18 chapters, Part I complete!!!! Link: The Unknown Kind Chapters 1 - 7
Chappie Preview!
The door to his destination sits on the left, blinking green for unlocked, and therefore not making it on Jim’s shitlist of doors. The Assessment Room has a desk and a helpful bank of consoles which Jim dives right into. And finds himself immediately in a maze of hospital programs, schedules, forms, orders; bombarded by medical terms he doesn’t know. Fuck. He doesn’t understand any of this shit he needs-! He switches his headset back on.
“Bones,” he says quietly.
“Thank fuck,” Bones says almost immediately, voice low.
Jim speaks swiftly, and as quietly as he can. “I’m stuck up in Crisis Stabilization, and I need your help to find a keycard to access an elevator on lockdown. Does the Enterprise have access to any of the Medical logs of San Cristobal?”
“I don’t-” Bones starts to say, and is cut off by some muffled conversation.
“Jim,” Uhura says, “can you get to a console?”
“I’m at one right now.”
“Perfect, I’m going to use your signal to link up the Enterprise, stand by.” Double raise, triple raise, all the raises for Uhura.
After a moment, Bones returns. “Jim, I’m in. You said you’re in Crisis Stabilization?”
“Yes,” Jim confirms.
There’s a pause of a couple minutes. “Jim, I see that a Doctor Morely is logged as entering Crisis Stabilization, but I don’t have him logged out,” Bones is speaking quickly and sparingly. “Jim, Morley is a senior medical officer, his keycard will have the access you need.”
“Morley, Morley, “ Jim murmurs. “Hang on.” He hoofs it back to the map station. “Ok, yes, Morley has an office here, I’ll start there.”
“Are ya safe, Jim?” Bones’ he asks like he can’t help himself, southern drawl pronounced.
Not really. “For now,” Jim answers.

Star Trek Hurt/Comfort Fic Recs
This list will include all ratings and tags, so read at your own discretion! :)
As a General Rule by kcscribbler - Rated T
Five times Jim Kirk protected his crew, and one time they returned the favor
Liquid Courage by TheAsexualofSpades - Rated G
Everyone keeps their secrets in different places. Some keep them in their bellies, some in their chests, some in their throats. James T. Kirk keeps his secrets under his tongue.
Living in the Shadows by kcscribbler - Rated T
Five times Jim noticed one of his officers wasn't doing well, and one time they returned the favor.
Touch Me, Tell Me All Is Forgiven by BeautyGraceOuterSpace - Not Rated
He stops trying, after everything. Frank. Tarsus. Years of conditioning against contact. He never initiates touch, and is wary of receiving it. He’s had his flinch response well in hand for years by the time a couple of Starfleet cadets go head to head with him in the bar in Riverside. Hell, a fist to the face feels like home. He almost craves the touch. Almost.
We pick ourselves undone by Mellaithwen - Rated M
Jim meets the Commander of the Yorktown.
Commander Frank Finnegan. Frank. How the hell could he have forgotten that? The man met Winona Kirk at a conference on a starship for god's sake, of course he’s a member of the goddamn ‘fleet.
Medical Advice by ValmureEld (InkSiren) - Rated M
Jim and Leonard are stranded. That always goes well, doesn't it? At least Leonard knows how to treat just about anything. Too bad this time Leonard is also the one in danger. AKA I really wanted the medic to have to explain how to save himself. Rated only for bad language.
Put Me Back Together by Elivira - Rated G
Next to joining Starfleet Jim thinks that befriending the unwilling southern doctor has been the best decision he's ever made. Leonard McCoy is always putting him back together.
Long Road Home by EternalSheWolf - Rated G
“It’s the greatest ship ever built.” His voice cracks, and he tells himself it’s because he’s been speaking for probably days now and he’s thirsty and his throat is probably bleeding and Bones will kill him, goddamit, Jim – A tear leaks out of the corner of his eye. “I want to go home.” He whispers.

Yesterday night I dreamed that I watched a very different version of the Star Trek reboot of 2009. Well, actually it was the sequel, I guess, but anyway: In this timeline, the death of George Kirk somehow led to James Tiberius Kirk now being Jane Tiberia Kirk who was played by Jodie Whittaker, actress of the 13th doctor. And she kinda was the 13th doctor, characterwise...?
So in this universe, Kirk grew up on another planet for a while on which the Enterprise and her crew take shore leave in the beginning of the movie. Spock is still together with Uhura at this point, however, you realise that Kirk is unhappy with it. ( I remember thinking something like "Oh, of course, now that Kirk is a woman, K/S becomes canon!" )What the folks on the Enterprise didn't realise, however, is two Aliens having infiltrated the ship who want to destroy the planet below to take revenge on Kirk for something she did in the last movie.
Forgotten some plot here, but somehow, Bones and Scotty figure out the Aliens's plan and do some sci-fi-mumbo-jumbo to let the bomb explode on space, however, they don't get it high enough before the timer ends and somehow, Uhura dies during the explosion, or she sacrifies herself for the people on the planet, I don't remember. This leads to Spock absolutely loosing his sh*t and Kirk runs after him, but Spock tells her off because she could never understand his pain, for she never let herself be bound to anyone. After that, Jane lets him go and goes to her quarters where she looks at a picture that shows her, but younger, in a romantic embrace with another woman, in the background the scenery of the planet below. Kirk sheds a tear while looking at it.
Anway, Spock starts to wreak havoc on the planet but hasn't hit anyone yet. (?) Jane beams down the moment he draws his phaser and throws herself in front of a child to save it from the shot. This leads to Spock getting sort of "anti-blood-lust" so that he becomes normal again and he takes the injured Kirk to sickbay where Bones heals her. Spock and Kirk confess their feelings for each other and Kirk is like " what, but I thought you went crazy because of Nyota" and Spock is like "Not out of love but out of guilt, for my Katra had long since belonged to another one" and they kiss. I think. I remember my last line of thoughts before waking up were something like "Yeah, this feels like a movie from the early 2010s...."
Anyway, after this I do not feel that giving up fanfictions for lent had the desired effect...

In space, she is simply Lieutenant Uhura.
(Or: isn't it a little fucked up that Uhura's first name doesn't get canonized until 2009?)
