To answer your question (I misread at first) I honestly think it's entirely plausible but we've never like, personally seen it? But it can be risky to delve into as well considering things like manipulation and such. We have thought about this due to some things with Pearl but we personally have decided never to look for someone who may share canons with us unless they're actually in our system.

Tried to draw my 3 main OCs atm! Putting some brief descriptions of them under the cut

First off a bit of a "plot" summary (there's barely a plot but whatever): Samuel Brisbane is from northern Ireland and participated in the 1798 Rebellion there. He had to flee and accidentally ended up in the eastern part of the southernmost province of the Netherlands, Noord-Brabant (which is totally coincidentally where my dad is from — it doesn't really make sense that Sam would've ended up there but I just wanted to set a story there lmao). Adriaan van der Velden lets him stay in his parent's house. That's uhhh pretty much all the story I have, as I tend to focus on Sam's backstory/the 1798 rebellion part of it, but thats also a bit difficult because I need to read more books about 1798 first but I keep procrastinating on doing so :')

Sam: Around 23 years old, Ulster Scots, Presbyterian, middle class (the big house in the background of the drawing is definitley not his & is probably John's). Member of the United Irishmen & a big fan of the French Revolution.

Very idealistic, probably a bit of a fan of William Godwin & a believer in the perfectability of man. Unwarrantly idealizes & looks up to John (in a manner very reminicient of David Copperfield & James Steerforth). I feel like I need to do more research into late 18th century Belfast/the United Irishmen/the 1798 Rebellion before fleshing out his background a bit more (there are a ton of books that I want to read on this but I KEEP PROCRASTINATING ON IT AAAAGH plus there's so many other books I want to read D:)

After the 1798 Rebellion he is uh a little bit messed up from the violence that he saw (and sometimes comitted). Is now unfortunatley a bit misanthropic & keeps blaming himself for the things that happened. He is constantly beset by intrusive thoughts. Had to flee Ireland and due to his (& John's) ship being blown off course wound up in the south of the Netherlands.

John: Around 23, Anglo-Irish, Anglican, the son of a landowner. Kind of like a combination of Clive Durham and a less rakish James Steerforth. Flirts with radical-ish ideas right up until the implementation of them would impact him negatively; rather self-centered. A turncoat :(

Adriaan: 22 y/o farmer living in a village in northeastern Noord-Brabant. Very socially awkward and lonely — his singular friend moved away. Hates change and is rather conservative as a result.

a girl of the limberlost. i only remember reading it once, but my mother is the one who gave it to me, and told me that it was a book she loved at my age at the time. (same with the secret garden.) so i can't think of that book without thinking of her, which makes it a little bit more special to me <3

immediate impulse is to say legends and lattes by travis baldree bc. it's so good. however, while there is a romance i don't know if i would count it as a romance novel.

the lady's guide to celestial mechanics. historical, sapphic, featuring both women in STEM (or, yknow, historical equiv) but also an appreciation for domestic arts / crafts normally looked down on. also there's an acknowledgement that homophobia existed, but there's none on page.

okay, so. if you are. remotely squeamish, like. at all? you might wanna give this one a pass. (def check storygraph / other places for trigger warnings. im also happy to elaborate myself, lol.) i am. very squeamish, and made it through only because the story grabbed me tight and wouldn't let go. the worldbuilding is extremely interesting. the characters are all very different and both likeable and unlikeable in a million different ways. but.

oh boy, it was a tough one.

it was a 4 or 5 star read for me, iirc, so, y'know. recommended. not sure i'll ever pick it up again, but like. do not regret reading.

i know i've read others like this, but the book that comes to mind is--and i had to google this bc it's been so long since i read it---Thirst by Christopher Pike. It was also published under "The Last Vampire." i don't actually recommend them; i read them during my middle school vampire phase and even i remembered being a little mindboggled. mainly bc i think there was an alien abduction in... the second or third book? idk, i had an omnibus.

there's only one answer i can give to this, tbh. the locked tomb series brainrot is real and deep and i am. both highly anticipating and dreading the release of alecto so.

i gotta recommend Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir.

that SAID, i am well aware that this book has a reputation on tumblr esp for being poorly summarized, as the most oft-used pitch is "lesbian necromancers in space."

this is not an inaccurate summary.

BUT.

it is also not complete.

so first, some expectations: it's sci-fi, definitely, but also there are a lot of fantasy vibes? probably because of the swords and the necromancy and the sworn knights-esque plot. uh. basically, it's sci-fi like star wars is sci-fi, but also it's. it's not star wars.

second thing: this series is unreliable narrator central. tamsyn picks the least qualified person in the group for you to follow the story with, and it works. so well. like, firstly bc ofc things get explained (some; it does drop you in and expect you to pick up a lot through context clues) but ALSO because you WILL pick up things you didn't on re-reads. i did a reread before Nona and spent half of it screaming. i'm not much of an annotator beyond highlighting some lines on kindle but i was commenting all over the place.

uh.

i still haven't talked about the plot, my bad.

Gideon the Ninth follows the titular Gideon, after her childhood nemesis and heir to the Ninth House, is invited to the First House by the God Emperor of the Nine Houses to seek quasi-immortality and join him in fighting a war as old as the Houses themselves. When they get there, though, they soon find their fellow heir-and-cavalier pairs being picked off one by one.

this book also features a lot of gay... not pining, not really, but like. Gideon likes women and her pov spends a lot of time appreciating the other women with them xD (this is also part of what makes her unreliable as a narrator. plot? what plot? gideon is here for thirsting, and a little bit of pining.)

also mild enemies to lovers vibes.

ALSO there are memes. there's a none pizza left beef joke in book 2, i'm still not over it.

does get a little squicky at times with loving descriptions of bones and viscera, though.

This script. This script is solid Byler evidence.

First off, this is all Will’s pov. We do briefly get ‘Mikes face brightens’ and ‘Thanks, I needed that.’ but overall, we don’t... actually get to know what Mike is thinking, we just see Will’s interpretation of it. And it’s true that Mike doesn’t go ‘uhhh will i think you are using el to talk about your feelings for me because you’re in love with me and know exactly what will make me feel better,’ but thats okay. Mike doesn’t understand that Will has feelings for him, that his confession was... well, his, and this works well for byler.

Wills confession made Mike feel better. It made his face brighten. People have broken down how you can tell that his monologue to El was directly inspired by Will’s confession- this confession is, to Mike, what romantic love should be. It’s just that, when he tries to bounce this back to El, tries to reciprocate these feelings, while making them El-flavored, it falls short, because... well, this isn’t how El feels. Mike thinks that it’s El who’s speaking his love language, and who’s hearing his, but that’s not the case. Because of this, when he tries to take this love, and his feelings, and turn it into his own confession to El, it’s chock-full of lies; lies which can be traced back to Mike’s true feelings, his love for Will (”my life started the day we found you in the woods”- El ended up being entirely crucial to them saving Will.)

Mike doesn’t get it (which... ‘now it’s mike’- what was Will not getting?), showing that he’s fundamentally misunderstanding what’s going on. He’s not ignoring Will- Will’s love, and the pain it’s bringing him- he just... is genuinely oblivious. If anything, I’d say this speaks volumes in terms of Mikes trust in Will, how Will makes him feel safe, that he just accepts “yeah, of course will knows exactly what to tell me” at face value, but y’know.

Now. The band-aid, and ‘I hate who I am’

Will thinks he’s lost Mike. This is the most damning piece of evidence I have ever seen to the fact that Will is a unreliable narrator. Will has not lost Mike! Not in the van, not when they get El, and not when they’re in Hawkins. Throughout it all, Mike is there for him, and it’s El who’s on her own (as is best for her- her character arc, and also just what she needs atm. she doesn’t need Mike to be in love with her and that’s good! good for her! we stan El.) They arrive in Hawkins, and when Mike is worried about El, who does he go to, to feel validated and that he’s needed? Will. And when Will is freaked out, scared, being reminded of his trauma, who’s there for him, right by his side? Mike.

This is so heavily shown in the final scene. El walks off on her own, of her own volition, strong and independent. She has her friends and family behind her, and she’s bravely going forward. We know what Mike needs in a relationship, and this shows that El isn’t what he needs- this is perfectly okay, neither one of them are at fault, because nothings even... wrong here, they’re just not what each other needs in a partner. Now, who needs Mike, will always need him, is afraid of loosing him, and who does Mike give the courage to fight on to?

Easy. It’s the person right by his side. Will needs Mike, and Mike, of his own volition (Will and Mike don’t touch- Mike is in no way being cued/led to stand by Will), is staying by Will. Will hasn’t lost him. Mike is right there.

...‘I hate who I am.’ Ouch.

What... I want to point out, is that Will says this before explaining that Mike makes him feel differently. Will establishes he feels like a mistake, and this line is directly responsible for “I hate who I am”... and then Will says that Mike makes him feel better. Like he’s not a mistake. Honestly, I think it’s a logical jump to say that despite Will’s struggles with self-acceptance, he... doesn’t view his love for Mike as wrong, as a mistake, because of Mike. So long as Mike is in his life, Will can recognize that loving Mike is a good and pure thing.

A lot of people are worried that Will is being set up for a sacrifice arc now, but I don’t see that happening. Mike and El aren’t communicating, aren’t talking, and Mike finally trying to give El what she needed failed, because it was based off lies, and it... wasn’t even what El needed- she knows now, she understands herself and how she feels, and Mike is being open about what he needs in a relationship, and. he’s found someone who’s loving him exactly how he needs to be loved. They wouldn’t show us that Mike can’t give El what she needs, doesn’t understand her, isn’t... what she needs, and wouldn’t show us that Will and Mike are one anothers perfect match, give one another exactly what they need to feel like their love is something good, just to kill Will off.

He’s not a plot device, his love isn’t going to be used to prop up milkvan- we know that Will is the main character next season. Not “Will is gonna get fridged and used as motivation,” but that Will and his story is going to be at the forefront of things. Will’s story wont end with him feeling like a mistake all on his own. They’ve perfectly shown us that the three characters involved in this triangle have all their needs met, feel great about themselves and excel, when El is supporting herself, and Mike is supporting Will.

Will is hurting now, needs Mike, and the Duffer’s aren’t going to shove Mike and El into a unfulfilling relationship, kill Will, and call it good writing. The script is reflective of how Will doesn’t understand what’s going on, how Mike isn’t aware of the truth, and there’s really only one way everything gets cleared up.

Gotten asked about adding facial hair to the picrew before, would try to make that happen. Would not add body types to any meiker retroactively, I'd rather make games with their own body types that fit all the clothing pieces, or things like Weekend at the Overlook that have clothes that can work for diff body shapes. sooooo uhhhhh,, its chewsday innit.i have no idea what my life is anymore. like what do i even do?? i have no idea how i would describe myself to someone else and thats sort scary yk. like how am i supposed to like myself if i dont know who i am? n e way enough existentialismmmmmm ice gotten more unconditional uni offers which im dead proud of like who wouldve thought I wouldve been able to do this. if only i couldve seen myself like 4 years ago i would be shocked. i mean most of it would make sense but like i didnt even think id live this long tbh. i dont think about that enough the fact i couldnt see myself getting older and doing 'grown uo things' because i thought i would never get through the present. that sounds real sad wow. 

lets talk about something else, perhaps how i believe myself to be far too impulsive for my own good and never thinking anything through twice. like ive just tried to revamp my whole room coz i was unhappy with it. i tried to chalk it up to just wanting a better desk and suddenly ive thrown away half my furniture and my room looks empty affff. but its ok since it already looks kinda better everything's cleaner now too. 

i went into my backgarden today and i picked all the uhhh my laptop almost died on me there i realised my things at full brightness anyway yes i went and picked the uh dandelions? the yellow chucky ones and some daisies and i made some flower chains and stuff and hung them in my room even though theyre gonna die idrc becuase they still look kinda cute, i keep patching my uni prep class becuase icba going but i still need to set up student loans and shit and actually confirm my choice for uni too omfg so much work and also need to start teaching msyelf the theory sruff for my driving thingytghing 

i was just looking back at another post before i started typing this and i was talking about how i dont really espress myself all too well through my apppearance and things i can personalise to me and i feel like ive gotten a lot better at that coz i recently chucked away a lot of clothes i dont wear and my mum bought me new stuff and im dead chuffed coz im far more confident in them and theyre far more comfy too :) ive also stopped wearing bras with wires and padding in them coz fuck all that shit i no longer care if people see my nipples becuase its not worth the actual pain from and improperly fitting bra which all of them are on me ............................................  

ive been listening to some NEW music lately just from my discover weekly stuff and its been pretty fuckign spot on with the shit i wanna listen to but i wish itd let me save each week as like a diff playlist but ive just been adding my favs to my other playlists feel like ive been piecing myself together bit by bit after not having the right pieces for years. 

anyway future me or whoever listen to 'them changes' by thunder someone or other because i think im a little bit obssesed atm hehehehehhehehehesjnjndkb LJBSCLVJBs jbs c' CKJBDKjkbckj  sh. i feel a bit like a fraud tho ngl like as tho im waiting for the other shoe to drop and find out im actaully lying about being a functioning human being for longer than like 5 days in the past 3/4 years. did that make sense idk im justsaying i feel a bit fake and that next time i feel a bit d y s f u n c t i o n a l its gonna hit really fucking hard and its gonna take a lot to get over it idk maybe im just being pessimistic or smth have a tendency to do that. 

also ive completely given up with school i have less than a month left and i cannot be fucked doing any more work than is necessary to pass ie only doing the test things and pretending to know what im doing in class no studying no homework none of that bs i would rather break my toes ..
