“I bet you wished I’d never been born at all huh?!?” 

The words were loud and harsh and hurtful. Angry and demanding and cruel. Bruce flinched away from them, from the cruel hatred, the hurt, the anger in his sons eyes. Dick’s eyes blazed with fire, but even he seemed taken aback at the pure vitriol he had just spewed.

“You don’t even love me anymore, do you?” He added bitterly, and Bruce felt something inside him, probably his heart, crumble, as Dick’s shoulders slumped. He had given up. Given up on them, on this, on Bruce. And, well… Bruce couldn’t blame him.

“I-” But their screams had attracted attention. Dick went down. “NIGHTWING!” Bruce’s scream was like a gunshot itself, and the criminal fled, not before a batarang lodged in his back.

“Night, chum, baby please,” Bruce begged, cradling his son to his chest. “Oracle! Alert Agent A and Leslie. Please.” His voice broke and Barbara didn’t even answer, his fingers already clacking away, phone dialing. Bruce scooped his son into his arms, so big and yet it felt like he was only eight again, and jumped to the Batmobile, breaking at least seven laws in his rush to get home.

Dick didn’t wake for two weeks. Bruce never left his side.

When he finally opened his eyes, blinking blearily in the bright lights, he was still there, eyes closed, holding his hand. “Bruce?” Dick rasped slowly, pushing himself upright. Bruce’s eyes flew open and he was immediately pressing his son down again, grabbing a few extra pillows to help him sit upright instead.

Bruce handed him a glass of water, and his son drank it greedily, though his eyes remained on Bruce. “You’ve been… unconscious for two weeks.” Bruce said into the silence, listing the facts, his eyes focused on his feet.

“The goon that got you has been… taken care of. You should be able to move again in a few days, once Leslie looks you over and..” He was rambling. Bruce paused. Took a breath.

“I do love you, by the way.” It was the most pressing thing he needed to address. The thing he needed Dick to know. His son sat up straighter in surprise. “A- as much as I’m capable of loving anyone.” Bruce continued, kneading his hands together. “Which is… never enough.” He finally looked up, quiet. Sad. “I’m sorry.”

Dick reached for his hand, linking their fingers together. “I- I’m sorry too. I shouldn't have… said that. I- I know you love me Bruce.” He smiled, a small smile, a smile Bruce had almost forgotten existed.

His small, but truly happy smile. It had been on his face constantly when he had been younger. When he had been Robin and it had been just the two of them. When Bruce had been a good father.

“I was just…” He sighed in frustration, running a hand through his hair. “Its hard B. It is. This. Us. Its hard. But I- but I want to keep this. Us. I want us Bruce. You struggle with stuff, and so do I. But… I love you. And… and you love me. And well,” He shrugged helplessly.

“What more can you ask for right?”

“A better father.” Bruce murmured quietly. Dick shrugged again.

“I don't get to choose that. Neither do you. And… you’re not perfect Bruce,” He smiled teasingly. “But neither am I. And, well,” He laughed, squeezing Bruce’s hand with his own.

“I never needed a perfect father. I just needed you.”

Oh my god they’re finally almost done! The Superboy ones took me somehow nearly 5 hours. Curves are the fucking worst when trying tocut cardboard neatly. My exactoknife is getting dull super fast from this unfortunately so I’ll likely have to go out and get replacements tomorrow.

I think they look super nice and I’m very happy with how they turned out! Just waiting on the glue for the SB logos to dry so I can attach them to the shortbox!

y’know what. i feel like sharing so have a snippet from a big wip i’m working on currently. this one’s tilted static sroadtrip and i had an idea of the wyatt masons, quitter, and megan getting tossed out of the static into minneapolis and embarking on a roadtrip to seattle:

About 41 minutes out of Minneapolis, Megan turns into Monticello, trying to remember how to get to the Perkins restaurant. Everything’s eerily silent and empty, save for the radio playing Park It and the discussion about lamprey eels between Lev and Trip. Nines promptly searches for images of lamprey eels (fae got some service 20 minutes ago, so even with Minnesota appearing entirely deserted, someone must be around to be maintaining the cell towers) and Midnight shrieks.

“WHAT IS THAT?!” Di twists in her seat, eager to see what Midnight just screamed at. Jasmine flinches, startled awake from her nap.

“EWW!” Di yelps, swatting her arm and missing Nines’ phone. “Their mouths look so weird!”

“What?” Jasmine whispers, craning her head upwards. “What’s going on?”

“Be nice to them!” Trip defensively snaps. WY-8’s antennae flicks up and down, intrigued. “Their mouths are adapted to better help them latch onto their prey! Hey, quit giggling! I said stop!” Trip swipes lightly at Lev, who’s failing to suppress their laughter.

okay rambles but i started creatively writing in like ... 5th grade? and. oh god just a little encouragement to anyone looking to get into writing or insecure or whatnot, but HELLS, maybe it's to he expected with my (obviously) very young age and inexperience with writing then, but my writing was really. yeah. Yeah. but then i'm what... a lot older now, obviously, and my writing has gotten leagues better. i'm probably not a good example for this bcs childhood years development stuff are different etc etc BUT practicing writing more and whatnot really does go a long way :]

South of the Circle

The very cold war

At the midst of the Cold War, young British student Peter sets off for Antarctica to study climatology, but unfortunately finds himself stranded there. As he tries to survive the cold, his thoughts take him back to snatches of his past, and question the choices he has made in his professional and love life.

❤ The staging ideas are brilliant; the parallels between past and present are ingenious, and the transitions are always fluid and coherent. We get a real sense of the character's loss of bearings due to the cold, which often makes us doubt his survival. ❤ The story is well written and fits in well with the societal changes of the time, tackling interesting historical subjects such as gender equality and the nuclear race. ❤ The game design is very pretty overall, with a contemplative, uncluttered style that is much appreciated. ❤ Very good, convincing English dubbing for all the characters.

+/- The soundtrack works well with the intimate moments but isn't memorable enough for the strong moments in my opinion. +/- After reading a number of reviews, I can see that the most divisive point concerns the illusion of choice offered by the game. I'm pretty divided myself, because yes, the dialogue choices or actions you take have absolutely no impact on the story, which makes it too directive and not really replayable. BUT this illusion of choice is in fact important given the revelation made at the end of the game...SPOILERS 1...It's an interesting move and I understand the approach, but it's not well enough developed to satisfy, especially as in the end there's only one moment where we really have the freedom to make a real choice...SPOILERS 2

✖ Lots of visual bugs, from pop-up effects on certain backgrounds to 3D models moving very strangely. (hmm is it the right way to hug x'D)

✖ The character's movements feel unpleasantly heavy, and the joystick control isn't always precise. ✖ Instead of having dialogue choices, you choose "dialogue colours" that correspond to the emotion with which the character is going to respond to the other person… but you just have no idea what's going to be said, I went more by instinct but I didn't really like this lack of precision. ✖ For what little gameplay there is, I would have liked at least more interaction with elements of the setting. (✖ A French translation that is not rigorous enough, with an alternation between "tutoiement" and "vouvoiement" in the same conversation and several typing errors.)

South of the Circle is a game I enjoyed above all for its story and clever setting, but it doesn't give players enough freedom to make it their own, given its lack of gameplay and real choices. As a result, you end up feeling a bit left out...
