(this is about religious trauma for context) i started in my head using this little phrase “deny yourself” to kind of sum up some of what i was told about my sexuality after i came out. they told me i couldn’t trust my feelings, and therefore to deny myself. then the other day in church i heard the pastor say that exact phrase and i don’t know i just think that’s bad. i thought up that phrase to kind of show how silly it is, because to what end ? deny your feelings ? deny your thoughts ? your memories ? how much of you is allowed to be true to them ? how much of you is allowed to stay ?
