No bc fuck tim but it really really bothers me how people ignore his growth like he used to be an asshole and I’ll give tim Stans one thing: now he’s so so so stale but what I disagree with is that this staleness is bc nobody likes him like it’s in fact the exact opposite where everyone likes him so much they dont want to do anything. Even when it’s him surface level challenging Bruce it’s when everyone else is doing it too; but he’s still the backbone of the fam! Danny is listening to the various eyeballs and ghosts chatter on about all the issues that he now has to oversee and advise and make so many freaking decisions on. It’s annoying that it all has to come down to his call because he was a dumb 14 year old who didn’t want his town to permanently live in the ghost zone.

Now 17, King of the Infinite, and a bit wiser to the world, Danny is doing his best to balance his teenage ambitions to not give a shit and his protective obsession to very much give a shit.

Sams parents are making her learn the family business and Tucker is trying to make this internship he’s got with a fancy tech company out of New Jersey into a career without college… so while they’re commiserating with Danny the idea comes up.

Earth has a shit ton of heroes. Like, ever since the Justice League *poofed* the GIW out of existence with the Meta human acts- more and more caped crusaders seemed to be coming out of the wood work. More villains too but still, more people who seemed wise to their abilities and morals. Danny has literally never taken an ethics class.

But rn, Eye-mothy and Eye-Bert are arguing over how Danny as King Phantom is supposed to tackle the problem of some fucking pool acting as a weird trade route with a cult and… ugh it’s just so boring but like also such a fucking problem. But… maybe it can be someone else’s issue.

Opening a portal, Danny escapes into space and gets to work finding the base of operations- Tucker had told him there was a new satellite after all and there’s no way it wasn’t connected to the hero orgs- and boom he flies into the Watchtower.

“Hey- are any of you guys willing to consult on some weird pools of ectoplasm in Pakistan? Green and glowing little lakes of bullshit and magic?” Danny asks into the meeting room of the JL regardless of their startled and alarmed exclamations.

“… I could consult on that.” A voice comes from the corner, and Danny recognizes him as one of the bat people. Or bird? The guy is in a lot of red and clearly wasn’t supposed to be in this meeting based on the way he’s propped in the corner. The room erupts in protest but Danny barely hears them through his excitement and focus on the dude.

“Great! I’ll have him back before the end of the day! Lets go Bird boy!” And with that, Danny grabbed the Bird, chucked them both through a portal back into his thrown room and begins to explain the way these eyeballs are totally trying to trap him into doing more work than he needs to do.

“What do I call you by the way? I’m Danny but you’ll probably hear them call me King Phantom.”

“I go by Red Robin, and honestly, I’ve been trying to get this shit taken care of for years.”

From there Tim becomes a regular consultant for King Phantom- the Bat Family is losing their minds with him constantly going to the land of the dead but also Constantine said not to piss off the king at all costs.

Danny is just thrilled that this dude has a shit ton of insight as well as business sense- like he could legit run the monarchy way better than him despite the fact that they’re the same age.

They end up working together for years, and even when there’s not an active issue at hand, Danny will meet up with the bird just to talk.

Sam and Tucker think they’re hilarious each time they ask if Danny’s proposed yet.

Tim has already planned their wedding but all of that information is in a folder more secured than the nuclear codes- Danny needs to ask him on a date first.

Right now, she's back at the Wayne Manor because Clark wanted to yell at Bruce for saying Santa isn't real. With her brothers around, she asks them if Santa is real or not.

Jason and Damian said "No" while Tim and Dick said "Yes" simultaneously. You looked back and forth between them as they began arguing.

Dick: Santa is real-

Damian: no, he's not-

Tim: it's called letting Y/n have a normal, healthy childhood.

Jason: what's healthy about a stranger breaking in to your house and watching you sleep and leaving materialistic things before eating your baked goods?

And baby reader only hears "Santa is a bad guy who breaks into your house at night when everyone's sleep" part and is now afraid.

Later that night, after Bruce had tucked reader in, he heard something move. He went out to check the boys, thinking that maybe one of them got out of bed, but ti his surprise, they were all asleep with their doors wide open. He then went towards your room, only to stop when he heard a loud crash from downstairs. Everyone was awake now, and they all rushed downstairs to the living room, where you stayed afloat in the air with a baseball bat in your hand, as you swung and hit the stomach of-

"Y/n!" Bruce called, startling you as you instantly floated towards him, hugging him as you said "I beat Santa! I beat Santa!"

The Santa, who was now being picked up by Dick and Jason, turned out to be actually Clark in disguise.

"What are you doing here Clar-"

"HO! HO! HO! SANTA JUST CAME TO DROP PRESENTS FOR YOUNG Y/N!" Clark exclaimed, cutting Bruce off.

You glared at the man in red suit, still not recognising your dear papa. "I don't want any presents from the bad man! You- you broke into our house without- ringing the bell!" You tried to float towards Santa to beat him again, but Bruce caught you and held you firmly against his chest. "I won't let you hurt daddy or my brothers or Alfie!"

It's like a lightswitch went off in the boys head and they all finally understood what you meant.

Bruce titled your chin towards him. "Y/n, sweetie, as nice it is for you to beat up Santa to protect me and your brothers and Alfred, and I'm very proud that you took my "stranger danger" lessons well, you must understand that you will never fight someone without getting my permission first. Its too dangerous, I don't want you to get hurt, princess." Your brothers agreed. "Do you understand, Y/n?"

You nodded, playing with your hands.

"Good. Now, let's go back to bed-" Bruce was interrupted by Clark clearing his throat loudly.

Ugh. Bruce rolled his eyes. "And Y/n, Santa is not a bad guy. He just wanted to leave us some presents. Small, cheap ones, unlike mine but hey, what can you do?" Clark glared at him whole your brothers snickered. "So, please don't beat up Santa next time, okay?"

"Okay. Sorry, Mr Santa."

"Its okay, Y/n! Ho! Ho-"

"Stop with the theatrics. You interrupted her bedtime. It's time for her to sleep. Try to be more quiet next time, Santa." Bruce growled, clearly unhappy at Clark for making you miss your beauty sleep.

What are some things introduced new52 to current day that you like and think are an overall net positive for batfam continuity? (As in, it's not uncommon for me to see fan things that mainly focus on post crisis/pre flashpoint stuff but still incorporate new comic aspects, such as slightly changed family dynamics/new developments, and it's interesting for me to find out what different people think is and isn't worth keeping from what got added after the reboot)

i was going to say i haven't read that many n52 and onwards runs, and then i realized i have actually read most of the ones i want to, i just haven't read any batman/'tec/batgirl/or duke's runs yet. (i read like...half of We Are Robin, Joker War, and i've read batman from where zdarsky come in so like have also read Gotham War.) (might read Catwoman?? not the point.)

since we're sticking strictly to net positives, i'll include something that i like, even if i have criticisms of it, but i won't get into those criticisms so we can stay positive!! (future cue, so this is kind of a lie but i swear i didn't go overboard.) i'm going to include stuff as minor as like costumes bc why not. also nothing is going to be in order of like what i like the most to what i like the least, just fyi. also, probs not definitive, knowing me i will forget something lmao

tim's red robin costume. that suit is *chef's kiss* imo. i love that he has wings. i...i don't know if i necessarily want it back rn bc i am sososososo in love with his current robin costume, but i do adore the n52 red robin suit

i personally like that they went ahead and made jason less villain, more anti-hero. i think him trying to reintegrate with the batfam creates some very compelling crises

ANYWAYS this is a snippet of a DamiTim piece I've been working on in the vein of Now Kiss! It's probably going to be a oneshot with multiple little scenes, and it's an urban fantasy fic that's not a no capes!au. It's based off of this one super short tumblr post (that I cannot find ughhh) about magic in the modern era between a self-taught sorcerer and a classically trained one arguing about the ways that they do certain thins, and I saw it and was like "I have to hit that with my DamiTim beam rn" soooo more urban fantasy from Misha for you all!!

A small, glowing portal opens up at the next snap of Damian’s fingers, deep green sparks lining the image of the fridge in the Batcave on the other side.

Tim rolls his eyes as Damian’s eyes flicker over the contents of the fridge. 

“It is unbelievable that you’ve made it this far in life without accidentally drinking your work,” Damian scoffs at the rows of bottles on the shelves.

“Hey, glass can shatter and plastic doesn’t! Besides, I’m recycling.”

“Is that what you call it?” Damian mutters as he pushes aside a gatorade bottle half full of a deep red, viscous liquid. “Which one?” 

“The caps are labelled.” 

After a few moments of watching Damian rifle through the bottles, Tim scoffs and pushes away from his desk. 

When he gets to the fridge, he slides in front of Damian — which infuriatingly, reminds him of the inch of space between the top of his own head and the tip of Damian’s chin — and grabs the Power-C Vitaminwater bottle that has a few tablespoons of an orange, oily liquid pooling in the bottom.

He slips his hand through the portal and drops it on the shelf on the other side before pulling his hand out. 

At least Damian’s spell doesn’t singe him at the fingertips the way his magic used to. 

It’s still a near thing, though.

When Tim turns back around, he almost flinches at the realization that there’s only a few inches of space between his nose and Damian’s chest. He looks up at him — ugh, who let the demon brat get so tall? — and raises an eyebrow. 

In the time it takes for Tim to let out his breath, Damian glances down at him. His eyes flash with something, pink rising to his cheeks again—

And then he’s stepping back, out of Tim’s space entirely, a scowl carving across his features as he looks around Tim’s study.

“You know—” 

Great, here we go, Tim thinks. 

“—there are cleaning spells you can employ to prevent your space from looking like this.”

“Again, Damian, just because I’m mostly self-taught doesn’t mean that I’m stupid.” 

“I was not—” Damian scowls, his voice gruff, defensive and god, here we go for real, Tim thinks.

But Damian doesn’t continue. He breathes out slowly, his voice coming out softer when he finishes his thought. 

“I apologize. I was not trying to insult your intelligence. I was merely suggesting that you may want to employ one of those spells before you trip over a stack of reference books or…” Damian kneels down to pick up a receipt off the ground. “Slip and crack your head open on something. Do you need this?” 

The urge to snatch it from Damian’s hand rises up in him, but he pushes it down.

He apologized, after all. 

“Yes.”

Damian raises an eyebrow at him before flipping the receipt over. 

“Is that… a spell?”

Tim snatches the receipt from his hand.

“Yes. Not all of us have time to copy our spells into a book—”

“Why don’t you just spell your pens?” 

Tim stops mid-step to frown at Damian, the receipt crinkling in his hand.

“Spell them how?”

Damian’s other eyebrow rises to join the first. 

“With a mirroring rune? It will copy whatever you’re writing into your grimoire as you write it.” 

Damn it. Fucking runes. There are just so many to keep track of, and Damian always seems to know them. 

“Here. Where’s your ritual knife?” Damian asks, striding past Tim to his desk, looking around for a pen. 

“I just use a batarang.” 

“You what?” 

“Yeah, anything sharp will do the trick.” 

Tim pulls one out of a drawer and passes it to Damian, letting himself snicker at the displeased look on his face. 

“You have the money. Buy a ritual knife, I am begging you,” Damian scoffs. 

“I don’t need one — don’t argue with me about it, I’m begging you. The rune, come on.” 

He watches Damian’s thick fingers curl around the pen as he carves the rune into the plastic with smooth, precise motions. He means to be following the lines of the rune, but his gaze catches on the scar on Damian’s knuckle, and before he knows it, Damian is handing the batarang back to Tim and muttering, “Grimoire?” 

“Oh, uh…” Tim moves a few piles of papers around, looking for one of the dozens of notebooks lying around this place. 

Okay, maybe Damian has a point. 

He gives up searching manually and waves his hand through the air, waiting for a notebook to soar from somewhere random in the room.

Nothing happens.

Why is nothing happening? 

Tim looks around, waves his hand again and with a little more sass, and then there’s a crashing noise as a pile of books collapses to the floor, his notebook responding to the summons and flying into his hand. 

He flips it open to a blank page and ignores the heat on his cheeks and the look Damian’s giving him as he passes it over. 

“Is it a time constraint preventing you from maintaining your space?” 

Tim scoffs, paying attention to the lines of the rune this time instead of Damian’s fingers. “Yes, Damian, it is pretty clearly just another thing I don’t have time to do.” 

“You could ask for help. I’m sure Jason would love to teach you some cleaning spells.” 

“He’s banned from my study for that exact reason. I still haven’t figured out where he put everything last time. Does the direction you draw the rune in matter?” 

“It’s a rune, Timothy. It always matters.” 

“Fucking runes,” Tim mutters, rolling his eyes. 

Damian laughs a little, and suddenly Tim realizes that this is the longest amount of time they’ve spent together when they weren’t in masks in… 

Well. Since Tim moved out, probably.

They get along fine (comparatively) these days, but it’s not like they spend time together unless it’s for a case, and they haven’t worked a case together since… last year? 

Which is probably why he’d forgotten how Damian’s laugh isn’t the same condescending noise he remembers from when he was a bratty little tween.

Or why the low, warm rumble of it catches him off guard, makes something in his stomach squeeze. 

“Here,” Damian says, jotting down the directions for the rune on the same page. “I can’t help you with organizing it in the notebook, especially since you have more than one, but—” 

“Oh, that’s not a problem. I just use summoning spells anyways.” 

There’s a silence long enough for Tim to look up at Damian’s face. 

Is his eye twitching?

Fanfiction commentary and recommendations: Lex Luthor´s ascend from supervillainy to fatherhood Part IV (chapters 16 to 20)

So, the classic silly rambling before the actual commentary part is surprisingly part that´s the hardest to do. Go figure.

Well. At least aside from formatting. I may have found out how to make links into hyperlinks, but I still have a problem with getting the HTML code to do what I want and just center the line break. And I´d also love to do blocktext, so that there are the most even edges of text possible on both sides, but I know the second one just WON´T work because different devices and different formattings so it would just look awful. I could still center. But my brain hates HTML code rn. Why is HTML so much easier on AO3?

But to build anticipation: I know that the next few chapters will be kind of wild. Or. not really 'kind of' but actually a bit wild. As in: The Joker´s involved. I mean, with all of the foreshadowing in the past few chapters I was really not surprised, but damn, do I hate the man.

With the knowledge of not being with that knowledge: back to the regularly scheduled program.

So? Which topic do you think chapter 16 starts with? Ding ding ding! You´re right! Lazarus Pits! Or rather: the price some people have to pay for the boon. In Jason´s case? His sanity.

And also the helpless feeling of just. Not knowing. Not knowing why or how he was the only one that suffered such harsh side effects when the rest of the family got away more or less scot-free.

I … can´t imagine how hard it must be to know all the darkness that dwells in oneself can just … erupt like some kind of volcano. Even worse if you wake up after such an eruption and just. Don´t remember. It´s frightening. And that Jason has endured that for years now? Oooof. He needs more hugs from his friends and family ASAP. Especially because he seems to feel like such a burden …

But how did we get to such deep introspection from him? Because he finally feels as if he´s getting back from the pits. You remember what I said about Jason feeling a lurch in his chest?

Yeah. It´s still happening, again and again and it´s kind of crawling up his throat.

And as I can´t imagine that feeling all too pleasant - he just kind of. Slowly falls onto the floor. Or. He would have, if Dick hadn´t caught him, good older brother that he is.

It doesn´t help that Danny collapses as well.

And then he throws up something green and goopy and it starts to move towards Danny and ugh. It sounds so digusting and horrifying I kinda had to take a moment to get a drink because god damn, that was not a comfortable experience to read about and any time I reread this for corrections I feel this imagine return to my mind.

Thank god for Alfred saving the day, because as the only one with his faculties intact he just puts a bowl over this … thing. And it helps! Whoooooo!

But now we have an exhausted Jason, a collapsed Danny and a very worried family. And not just any worried family, but a worried batfamily. Good god that can´t end well, can it?

Because of course, after the discussion about his health problems the family gets even more worried when his heartbeat slows further. And since he´s not awake, he can´t even veto going to a hospital. Thank god for Duke though, because he got them to go to Dr Thom(p?)kins instead.

And of course they´re suspicious now. Probably more of Lex than Danny, but still.

Tim, bless his soul, wants to tell Lex what just happened because any parent should know what happened to their child. Especially since there could be allergies or traumata involved.

But no, bruce just wants to get him to a clinic. It will come back to bite him in the ass - that I can promise.

And where does it come back to bite him in the ass? Right at the clinic. Jason may be fine, but Danny? In the eyes of the doc? Fuck no, he´s not. I mean, he never is, but they don´t know that, do they?

And because of all the radioactivity and the health problems and because he´s a sus mf - what does Bruce do? He wants a blood sample.

Now. We know how Danny is about his blood. It´s a dangerous thing. Thank god for Leslie and her ethics though. Because I don´t think neither Danny nor Lex would forgive him for that breach of trust and bodily autonomy.

Bruce and Damian are both deeply suspicious because the matter seems quite close to Lazarus pits and fear that Lex may be experimenting on him … and also Damian kinda lowkey hates Danny because he has hurt his family twice already, however unintentional and who says he won´t hurt even more of them?

And after that whole ordeal? Danny just decided to take his legs into his hands and get the hell out of dodge.

Can´t blame him tbh. Really, really can´t blame him.

So where does the baby boi end up? At a random roof in Gotham where Harley finds him. Predictably she thinks he maybe wants to jump though our Boy quickly reassures her that that´s not the case.

Doesn´t change the fact that he´s still spooked though. Mainly because he thinks he did something wrong and now the Waynes won´t want him as a friend anymore, because why would they? He hurt them and then they even had to get him to a clinic and Harley, please do something about this, it´s just sad to read :')

And now Danny doesn´t even wanna call Lex, because of the situation because he fear he´ll never be allowed to go anywhere again because he was 'right' and just. Danny I understand your fear, but comunication please.

Of course he deflects by asking if the Joker was around, which somehow leads to Harley taking him to her and Ivy´s place? Don´t ask me how it happened, the only I way I can condense it is if I say: they ranted.

This leads to this part of the conversation:

“Really? Then why did… you know,” he said, looking her up and down. “I know it couldn’t have been just the Joker that made you this way. He’s your… origin story, not your love interest.”

And I think that just endeared danny to her forever.

So while Danny cuddles with Bud and Lou on the Couch, the bats are freaking out because they lost Danny. And what do the bats do best when they panic? Suit up and spread out. 

Lex is finally being called. Suffice to say the conversation does not go well. At all. And Lex is now on the way. Because of course he is. Especially after Bruce basically insulted him by insinuating he´s a bad parent. Way to put your foot in your mouth, Bruce.

And what else does happen on this lovely day? The Joker gets out, because of course he does. Why not make bad things even worse? That´s what this man does best after all.

Meanwhile Ivy is exasperated at Harley´s antics, seeing as she wants to steal Danny from Lex and yeah. Just a typical start to girl´s night i guess? Catwoman will have fun with this situation, i can already tell xD

Now if only I knew what Damian would want those bolt cutters for?

Selina arrives! And instantly thinks Danny was kidnapped as well.

That topic quickly shifts though. And what does it shift into? Bruce´s batdoption problems. It´s just such a good meme and I´m not even mad about it.

It also seems a put a few things into perspective for Danny since she tells him that some people don´t think Lex to be a good parent. For very good reasons to be honest, but I guess it still stings a bit ...

In the end girl night starts with them just trash talking Bruce and his furry tendencies. As well as his hypocrisy when we consider his dating history. How a man with such a moral compass can deal with dating people such as Talia or Catwoman I will never understand. I know, I know. Sexual Tension. But Sexual Tension does not cause you to conceive a child together (that´s just trash as well. I gotta be solidary xD)

So in the typical girl night fashion, they talk about feelings and who may have a crush on whom and how oblivious some people (*cough* Danny *cough*) are and there´s many an adive to be had. They´re just gal pals having fun :D

Meanwhile Lex is annoyed at the Gotham airspace seeing as he can´t get into the city without changing vehilces because a certain clown blew up some buildings.

Meanwhile girl night changed into poker night and well. I don´t think any of them play fair xD

The conversation that follow are easily put under the "What happens on girls’ night, stays on girls' night" category as Ivy suitably calls it.

The bats and birds still haven´t stopped searching. Joker´s still a crazy piece of work and Danny? Danny is just losing at Uno and living his best live.
