about that post u rbed on the new sh2 remake.... u mentioned in the tags that removing the patches kinda subtracts from his personality-- do u think the original design's patches say something abt his character? or do u think theyre just a stylistic choice

i think they're both a stylistic choice and something that could possibly allude to his character! i don't think they represent anything "profound" or "deep" like other character design elements, such as maria's butterfly tattoo being surmised as a tie to themes of rebirth, i think they're indicative of a man who likes to feel decorated in a "safe" way. have a pop of color here and there but nothing super flashy.

james' general outfit in the original sh2 fascinates me a lot—i really enjoy it, honestly. his polo is striped, his jacket's got patches of all kinds on it, and he wears biker boots as casual footwear. there is a certain style that he's going for and it's very cute. there's also a sort of "blink and you'll miss it" element of his choice in wear, which is why i think he's trying to hit some kind of stylistic quota, but all within the realm of "safety", per my interpretation.

i also think that his jacket is a hand-me-down from his dad, frank. since my james was born in the 50s and sh2 takes place in 87 to me, this jacket's from frank's service in ww2, so it's fairly old and worn by the time sh2 rolls around. i think the american flag patch was just on there when james got it, and the various other patches were added by james himself (with mary's help with some of them). my favorite patches do have to be the yellow and red patches on his jacket sleeves; those patches, to me, are the most telling aspect of what i've stated before.

james wants to look sharp in his own way... but not too sharp! please don't look at me for longer than 5 seconds or i'll kill myself thx 🫰

In terms of cut content, not really! LYS was meant to be a short game and in terms of scope we were able to work within what we wanted to accomplish. But this did make me dig around my earlier visual drafts and I forgot Alma used to have swirls in their eyes like so:

Roytim is such a fun crack rarepair for me! Dick’s best friend sleeping with/dating Dick’s baby brother Timmy is 10/10 drama on a more personal note than I’d picture it with Jason. Absolutely no shade I just have always read Dick as being more protective of Tim and Damian.

oh i LOVE RoyTim on it's own! likely bc i'm just a Tim multishipper and if it fits i ship, but Roy is especially fun via the Dick connection. and i 1000% agree, *especially* pre-Flashpoint, would even argue it's outright canon that Dick is far more protective of Tim and Damian than he ever was with Jason (not out of dislike, but simply bc Dick and Jason were never all that close and the tragedy of losing Jason was losing what could've been, not what he already had) and especially with Jason as Red Hood, Dick holds no particular protective brotherly feelings toward him. it's all Tim and Damian. so you're so right, the drama of RoyTim is just a smidge more upped than of JayRoy and i'd love to share headcanons-

i think it makes for a fun "crush on your older brother's friend" situation. where like. Tim knows it's unrealistic and he has no *actual* intentions to chase it when he's just 15/16 and Roy and Dick are in their twenties, often hanging out around Tim. and Roy is handsome, he's funny, he's similar in personality to ppl Tim has dated (Steph, Kon) so, it's a crush. one that he hides *well* and never makes it Dick or Roy's problem, and one Tim never expects to pan out. he just fantasizes about Roy a little bit and mostly grows out of it by the time he's an adult.

i think more fics need Lian, so i like the idea of them co-parenting Lian. especially if they're both. sort of bad at it. like Roy loves her and he's trying, but he's doing this basically alone and it's not like he has experience. Tim also has no experience. neither of them know what on earth to do. it's a very cute idea that just relies on the two of them being terrible at parenting and Roy getting so mad that the first time Lian says "dada" she says it to Tim that he considers breaking up for a good five minutes.

how they get together can happen in a lot of ways, but i'm interested in the idea of Dick asking Roy to talk to Tim during Tim's Red Robin arc. Roy has experience helping kids through his work helping young addicts and nothing else has worked, so he offers to at least try with Tim. and Roy, who also doesn't handle grief well, understands at least some of what Tim is going through. especially since Roy dealt with Oliver dying and then suddenly coming back, he's at least open to the idea Bruce could be alive. he's just around to try and help Tim keep some emotional stability, but it ends up with Roy helping with the search and somehow, falling for Tim along the way

they go to sitcom levels of chaos trying to keep the relationship hidden from Dick. they *both* know Dick is far too protective of Tim to react well to it. but also, i think Roy would get *just* a bit of an ego about sleeping with Tim under Dick's nose. he makes a point of strutting around when Dick invites him over, finding reasons to be shirtless just to make Tim squirm a little bit. it's that sort of kink where you're excited about the risk of being caught. that fits these two so well and i can't explain it.

because Roy is used to mentoring younger heroes, i think he would have a bigger than normal moral panic about dating Tim. he fights his feelings for a *while*, to the point Tim can tell Roy is fighting his feelings and he's trying to convince Roy he's fine with this. Tim telling Roy about his childhood crush does not help. it makes Roy feel *worse*. it makes them take things very slowly, and i could see Roy being the type to never fully touch Tim until Tim is 18, no matter how much Tim insists it's okay.

i do think they have unhinged sex when they actually get into it though. no matter how sure Roy is that he'll be gentle the first time, the minute he gets his hands on Tim, it is feral. there is blood and foul dirty talk and Tim cannot walk the next day. i think Roy makes for a very mean dom, the type who will make fun of you for being a mess in bed. he just has those vibes, and it works great for getting Tim to just. turn his brain off.

i think Roy, who's struggled with picking hero names before, would be someone to try to force Tim to let go of Red Robin once the whole Bruce thing is over. it's not Tim's name and Tim doesn't need to keep punishing himself with it. Roy is nice about it at first, but then i do think he threatens to set that damn suit on fire if Tim keeps wearing it and doesn't come up with a new hero name. and the worst part is, Tim does know he's serious.

when Dick does find out, chaos. an absolute shitshow. when Roy tells him, Dick punches Roy in the face before he even finishes explaining himself. it's a pure gut reaction. even Bruce isn't as protective over Tim as Dick is. it takes a *lot* of convincing from Tim that it's okay and he wanted this before Dick calms down, and he still doesn't talk to Roy for like a month until the rest of the Titans are forced to hold an intervention reminding Dick of his own dating history with age gaps, like Babs. Dick does cool down, but he is not afraid to stoop to "you're fucking my brother" in an argument bc he wins everytime when he brings it up.

i think Tim is the protective partner. everyone *expects* it to be Roy, he's older and more experienced, but it's Tim who will absolutely lose it if someone threatens Roy's or Lian's life. like not fanonish "committing murder" Tim, but more so canonish "i have a contingency plan for everything" Tim. Roy has had to hold him back a couple times. honestly i think the moral conversations Roy and Tim have are so interesting. because Roy will cross the line for those he loves, so bc of that, Tim is careful to make sure Roy is never in a position where he has to protect Tim bc he knows it would turn lethal quickly. it's a very "i know what you're capable of and you don't scare me but i won't let you become a worse version of yourself bc of me" sort of self preservation vibe. i think it'd be very neat. Tim fights like hell when he's close to death bc his thought is always "i refuse to let Roy feel like he has to avenge me" which i find very crunchy.

Everyone thinks he'd go covered head to toe wearing those wet suits divers use, but no. Noritoshi isn't the type to want to attract attention to himself when it's not needed, so he'd try to blend in. Emphasis on try.

He's the guy wearing a covering or some shit. I think you'd have to fight him to wear a translucent one. (if you splash him with water, you'll acheive the same effect thoughahahaha) even though it's a beach, he's trying to find an appropriate way to cover up, hes just like that. yes to sunscreen ofc. I have a few questions about your version of flumbo

1.) would it ever be possible to gain his trust as a human (please my heart hurts/hj)

3.) I’m not sure if you’ve clarified or not but what is his relationship with Syringeon? Do they hate each other or is it just annoyance or something else entirely

1) Technically speaking, you COULD gain his trust but you'd need to be veeeryyy persistent on getting him on your side. That man is stubborn af and will not let the notion "that all humans are the same" go. You'd have to keep following him around and try to become someone he can lean on (aka try and make him know that you understand his problems and what not. Help him get around the facility and promise him a way out of the place). You'd have to prove this a bunch of times till u can get it through his thick skull and just then, when the realization hits him that you're not ,in fact, just another human wanting to hurt him and take advantage of him, he'd be absolutely confused. It'll take time of course but if you're determined you can get him to be your companion.

2) yes. Tho he wouldn't be pleased by it

3) Their relationship is kinda weird and not healthy, like at all. Syringeon has a massive god complex and add the fact that he helped create flumbo, it makes for a pretty unbalanced power hierarchy or whatever u can call it. Flumbo usually tries to mask his problems by acting like a smug mf and so the two clash. I plan to make a lil sketch where syringeon gets fed up with flumbo and threatens him by saying smt like

"Watch your tone with me, boy. Remember that as easily as I created you, I can break you apart and put you back together as I see fit".

Another thing to put on the flumbo trauma list. And the worst part is that flumbo thinks that getting on his side is the only way to get what he wants (basically just escape tho he's not exactly sure). And so, syringeon practically uses him as a pawn to use to achieve his goals and flumbo is stuck with him (and maybe brushista as well but I've not developed more of that side of things).

So in summary it's a little bit of both. Flumbo somewhat resents syringeon for the threats Yadda Yadda and syringeon is somewhat annoyed by his presence tho not as much as he is annoyed by... let's say the player or bittergiggle. Same goes to how he sees uthman (he deems them both as a necessary annoyance)

I personally have never seen anyone say that jtodd is the best fighter in the batfam but maybe that’s because I mostly keep my nose out of most jason fans business…

Anyway when it comes to power scaling in dc comics Nightwing is always a weird character to talk about because writers are not very consistent about it (especially recently, TTs Nightwing was weirdly incompetent sometimes) and he’s often beaten down emotionally and mentally by his villains in order for them to have a chance against him physically. Based on the comics that I love and cherish I personally would rank him as one of the top ten (the lesser end of the top ten but still) most skilled non-powered fighters in universe and jason doesn’t make it anywhere close to that list.

Whenever jason and dick face off jason puts up a good fight, but to my knowledge dick always wins.

Dick is just on another level in terms of skill and experience, and that’s the way it’s been for forever. He was a child prodigy, and has spent his entire life commanding and leading god-like figures. The list of people who could win against him in a fight is pretty short. He has the respect of richard dragon, lady shiva, slade, midnighter, and nearly the entire vigilante/hero community. Jason has been shown to hold his own against bruce but tbh that doesn’t mean as much as a lot of people claim it does.

And yeah, like you said, cass is THE BEST. No argument.

most of my musings about them are based on an au of mine from my fic time has changed the metaphor, where rosie discovers vox early on after his death and is the one to introduce him & alastor, leading to Consequences. in the context of the au, vox admires rosie for her strength of will, competency, and her ability to be terrifying while remaining deeply kind - rosie, on the other hand, took vox under her wing and feels responsible for him, as well as enjoying his ambition and clever personality. however, vox's prioritization of modernity over all else doesn't hold a lot of space for rosie's old-fashioned sensibilities and cannibal town, which is frozen in time in a certain era very deliberately; so vox feels obligated to try and drag rosie into the future, while she feels obligated to dig in her heels and preserve her values without compromise. it's the biggest point of contention between them. they're both very stubborn and strong-willed when it comes to their principles, which they both interpret as pointless obstinacy in the other - despite this, rosie is very fond of vox because his deep insecurities make him both (1) easy to manipulate and (2) not really much of a threat for someone like her, who is very comfortable with herself and attuned to the emotional states of others. vox respects that he can't shake her composure while still desperately craving her acknowledgement. she's almost like the metric by which vox judges his own emotional stability, a pillar that he leans on in moments of weakness and that she lets him lean on because she loves him, AND she knows he's a useful ally if he's eating out of her hand. i think rosie is a lot more manipulative and cunning than she seems, and she makes calculations oriented to what benefits her the most while still being faithful to her values. she can love someone and still use them. vox needs to feel wanted more than anything else, so this works out excellently. rosie ends up treating vox a lot like she treats alastor: "i could fix him, but honestly whatever's wrong with him is way funnier, and if he really needs it i'll pick him up out of the gutter." rosie trusts vox to handle himself, but also always keeps herself available to him as a confidant, wanting to be the first voice in his ear when he seeks out advice. AGH i love them so so much, i would be so fascinated to see what their relationship is like in canon, if they have one at all.

Man, it bursts my little bubble to think about the ‘Dawn and Dusk’ chapter of ‘House of Dreams’ too much but Gilbert’s most underrated moment has surely gotta be this one.

Gilbert’s dauntless integrity is really easy to overlook in the shadow of the ineffable sorrow of this moment. This is the single most violent blow in the world to hand a mother (or arguably anyone anywhere; the loss of a child is such a ruinous grief that not everyone survives it, and here even Marilla, a strong believer in moral code, in Providence, and honesties… openly flees the scene) and yet Gilbert delivers it so softly, and directly. The fortitude it must’ve taken to not honey the inevitability of Joy’s ‘going’, by spinning counterfeit hope, that maybe he couldn’t be totally sure of what was to come, or that there was even a very small chance of recovery. With the understanding, of course, that Gilbert would’ve been properly trained in the parsing and distributing of ugly tidings (practised as a class exercise in medical schools, even in the 1880’s — though still not necessarily a very teachable skill)… but all those fine words and bedside manner instructions count for a whole lot less when it’s your own much desired child, your own much loved wife, and your own present bracing against the crippling tragedy still at hand.

For me, this moment just speaks of true shining character. Though Anne pointedly asked, where Leslie did not, we can also still see when we compare these two harsh occasions of outing-the-truths, that Gilbert’s going to do the right thing, no matter how agonising, no matter how personal, and no matter the infliction to himself. 🥹 And anyway, I love him soooo much for it.

In the even bigger picture of this chapter, how ready Gilbert is to humble himself is also up for discovery. Doctor Dave was called to the house. Doctor Dave was retiring, out of date with his technique, and so old fashioned that Gilbert wasn’t in the habit of consulting with him unless things were philosophically dire. At this point, Gilbert had already righted some Doctor Dave wrongs in the community; saved lives that he would’ve lost. And when we let all that sink in, Gilbert’s desperation in ‘Dawn and Dusk’ starkly shows through.

i think he certainly knows ahead of time, but keeps his distance until after baby is born. in the beginning he tells himself it's for their benefit, but truthfully it's more because he doesn't want it to be real, and seeing her would make it impossible to distance himself. it's not that he doesn't care, it's that he cares very much (are we seeing a theme?). he's bitter that he's managed to make this worse and more dangerous for everyone. he's bitter that now there exists one more happiness just out of his reach. he's furious with himself for letting it happen to any of them. for creating any kind of burden for her to bear alone, again, for bringing a child into a world he's about to turn on its head, for making himself somehow lonelier and more distracted than he already was. but she wants to see him, after baby arrives. she asks cole to ask him to come, and solas desperately wants to tells himself he owes them that much. problem is, the closer he gets, the faster he folds.

It was as if he could do anything. He could start his day at the cafe and save a few people before coming that night, and because of this, it was terribly easy to forget that he too, is human like everyone else.

He was a little too good at pushing himself when he needed to most. When he needed some rest, but a call comes in asking for some extra help on a mission. Or the cafe suddenly asking him to open up the next morning because someone's unable to make their shift. He was always able to say yes and exceed everyone's expectations no matter the job.

For this exact reason, he was often given far more work than your average person, and this is not to mention he had three different faces he was juggling. Yet, even through all this work, it looked effortless to him. He never seemed to be struggling and he was always on task, so no one would suspect he actually was tired and a little rest was necessary for this hardworking man.

However, you would never miss it. Not the small eyebags that appeared just below his eyes and definitely not the sighs that he would let out every once in a while. He needed some rest, but you knew better than anyone that he wouldn't listen if you simply told him to, he would just push himself a little more. He's a little too good at that.

You knew when his next day off was, but you also knew he was planning to get all his household chores done and caught up with that day, and you weren't going to let that happen. He needed to rest. So there you were, two days before his day off, cleaning around to surprise him. You were absolutely ready to take the whole day and the next if you had to, but it was much better than you had expected. Of course, he still had most of his daily chores covered through all his work. Needless to say, you were excited about his day off.

Before long, his day off had finally come. He woke up bright and early like he always did, went out for a little jog, and did his little routine. He had gotten back home and he was ready to take out the garbage when he realized it was already done, which he found terribly skeptical. He then went to check the laundry which was also already done, not to mention everything seemed a lot cleaner than he had left it. Immediately, his eyes widened and he knew it was you, and he was ashamed he hadn't noticed earlier.

As if on cue, you rang the doorbell and he opened it up. You looked at his running wear and you realized he had already gone and ran.

"You're already done! Aw, that's too bad... I was going to tell you to sleep in some more first," you said and gave him a little kiss as you walked in.

"Thank you so much," he said, a little lost for words and you smiled.

"Oh, don't mention it. Go take a shower, I'll borrow your kitchen by the way," you said, pushing him towards his bathroom.

"I'm sorry, you just came but I think I will," he said, looking apologetic and you told him there was nothing for him to feel sorry for.

While he was in the shower, you decided to make a few mug cakes. Very simple 5-minute ones, because his showers were too short for anything special. Now, they took much longer than the five minutes they were advertised to take, but it was still done by the time he had gotten out of the shower.

You were sitting on the couch with a blanket and the mug cakes on the coffee table when he walked out of the shower. You had been dating for a while now, but gosh was he still so stunning with his wet hair.

"Come sit and eat while it's still warm!" you said. "I'll dry your hair."

"No, it's okay, you should relax," he said and you immediately looked at him, shocked.

"If anyone needs to relax it's you," you said and forced him to sit down so you could dry his hair, which he had no choice but to give into.

It was a lovely time, there were hardly any words said as the sound of the dryer was a little too loud, but it was comforting. He was eating your very quickly put-together mug cake while you were drying his silky hair. Every other bite he would feed you some as you were busy drying his hair, and you couldn't ask for more. Nothing could make you happier and the same went for him.

Once your mug cakes were finished and his hair was dry, you snuggled into his bed and pulled him in.

"We're going to sleep," you said, already comfortable under his blanket.

"No, we really don't have to. We finally have a day off together, we should go somewhere you want to," he said.

"Well, I want to be here right now. With you," you said, completely certain that that was what you wished for. "I really want some more sleep today and I can't sleep without you so you're going to have to tag along."

He couldn't help but smile. He slowly snuck in and you snuggled up right next to him as he kissed the top of your head. It was sweet, and that was it. It didn't have to be anything more and it was all he wanted for the past few weeks. He truly didn't know how you managed to notice and he couldn't imagine himself with anyone other than you. You had to be the one.

"Thank you so much," he said, again. "For noticing."

"Noticing what?" you said with a smile, playing dumb. "I just wanted some extra sleep with you. I hope you don't mind on your first day off in a while."

"There is nothing more I could possibly ask for," he said and wrapped his arms around you. Before long, he was fast asleep and you couldn't help but smile. You knew he was tired and you didn't know how to get him to rest.

You kissed him softly and whispered, "I am always here for you," before falling asleep as well, but you would never find out that he was awake to hear those words. Nor will you ever find out that he fell even more in love with you that day.

I'm not sure if you've already answered this, but is MC the only one in the main cast that can/does have powers? I think I remember Willow also being said to have some potentially? If so, what powers or abilities from the potential ones MC could have would the ROs naturally develop according to their character?

The MC is not the only character with powers! They're like...1/5 of the main cast off the top of my head. Willow does have magic, I'll say right of the bat haha. They have ~dreams~

But!! Going based off specifically the powers MC can develop:

He's never had anyone be around as long as you have; he's kinda new to the gifting thing but does so with a lot of enthusiasm!!

Whether it's something he made or found, knowing he chose it for you is what makes it soso special.

He just loves the idea of being able to give something that was a part of himself and insert it into your life if that makes sense.

He also loves doing it because he believes you deserve to have nice things with all his heart :-)!

If he's not sure what to gift you he'd rely on pretty little knickknacks he thinks you'd like but still be on the safe side; flowers, jewelry, decorations and accessories.

But if he does figure out your interests he'd do his best to accommodate! Books, toys, tools and clothes... he has his means of getting stuff he can't make himself.

The idea of you keeping his gifts as a sign of friendship/love makes him really happy!!

Lowkey if he sees you using/wearing/displaying a gift he gave in the past he'd be purring non-stop.

We know how he feels about his physical appearance so this is a no-brainer. His self-esteem isn't the best :'-)

Being alone/isolated as he is, he might confuse physical affection but nothing is more clear to him than words straight from your mouth how much you mean to him <3

At first he wonders if you truly mean what you say when you talk so positively about him, but then he slowly starts to believe it.

Do not underestimate the impact of one (1) compliment as simple as "You look good today, Mychael." He'd remember it for at least a week.

It's a bit of a guessing game to figure out what gets him the best. If you praise his skill at something his response would be, "Oh I guess I got good at it. Thanks, firefly :-)" but if you praise his looks and mannerisms you've hit the jackpot.

Blushing, stuttering, avoiding your gaze level of embarrassment.

If you're really close friends or basically dating, he will absolutely ask for your opinion on how you feel about him from time to time, just to get reassurance from you.

Overall nothing gets him better than just hearing positive remarks from a loving source aka you :-) <3
