Ghost Trick: Phantom Knight

For an anonymous prompter via @fyeahghosttrick's Ghost Swap 2024. The prompt was:

Genre swap AU! Fantasy, superheroes, classic pulp… how does the plot play out in a setting with different rules?

Now, I've had a medieval fantasy AU in my head for ages, mostly to play around with some A/C/J OT3 thoughts. But! I had thought about before where other characters like Yomiel and Lynne fit in, as well as the equivalent of the Temsik Park incident, so I...sat down and I wrote a retread of the whole game, medieval fantasy edition, Lynne POV. I wanted to pick a prompt where I could write a lot to outdo my contribution from last year, and this is, uh...much longer. Which is why I'm not including the full text in this post like I did for my Ghost Swap fics last year -- sorry! It's just...too long.

Word Count: 13285 (you see what I mean?)

Content warnings: Mostly the Ghost Trick typical stuff -- temporary death, non-graphic violence. There's also a lot of talk about beheading.

Knight Lynne of the Royal Guard has had a very long night. He had asked her to meet by the willow tree in the graveyard — a morbid place, but she had no reason to refuse.

After all, she is out of options. She has her mission, and it is the same as it has been since she first was knighted by the king. Her purpose is to seek justice.

Regardless of what becomes necessary.

“Knight,” he says. “You are…courageous to meet with a man like myself.”

“If you have information, I will take whatever you have to offer.” She grips the ribbon — the representation of her vow to seek justice. “I know your shape. I know you were the mage who terrorized the kingdom ten years ago.” She places one hand on the hilt of her sword. “But I do not fear you.”

“You should,” he responds, grinning larger than life, and those teeth are the last things she remembers before—

There is blood on her sword when she draws it and a decapitated man on the ground. It is simple enough to figure out that someone must have swung it, and the sword is still in her hands, so…

The fault is her own.

Book Reviews: Clockwork Boys - T. Kingfisher

Rating: 4/5

Clockwork Boys is a book whose genre is typically described as a blend between epic fantasy and steampunk sci-fi. While I would agree with that, I would add that it can also be well-described as D&D campaign told without the dice.

Written out of spite for an incorrect portrayal of paladins in games such as Neverwinter Nights, Clockwork Boys follows the adventure of a paladin, a forger (sometimes called a ninja accountant), an assassin, and a scholar as they travel to Anuket City in order to discover the secret behind the Clockwork Boys, an army of mechanical monsters that threaten to destroy the Dowager's kingdom (and have already rampaged across several villages and killed countless citizens). Of course, this isn't as much of a lighthearted romp as it might sound at first. Of the four of them, only one volunteered, and that one is a nineteen-year-old who, while compassionate, wasn't quite aware of what he was getting himself into. The remaining three weren't exactly given a choice, and the magical tattoos on their arms make sure it stays that way.

Nonetheless, while the four main characters embark on a perilous adventure that's repeatedly referred to by one of them as a suicide mission, the book still does have its moments of levity and comedy. Each one of the primary characters has a distinct voice; Kingfisher doesn't weigh down her prose with dialogue tags, but it's usually not difficult to tell who's talking. Her gripes with popular portrayals of paladins (noted in the back of the book) are notably averted with her paladin, Caliban. While he is weighed down by guilt due to events in his past, that guilt doesn't consume his character wholesale, nor does it let him off the hook when he acts out of line. The other three central characters all have multiple dimensions to them as well, even if they don't see each other's dimensions at first, and at least one of them (the aforementioned nineteen-year-old) gets significant development already by the end of the first book.

That said, Clockwork Boys is not perfect. I purchased the paperback edition, and I was disappointed to see typos throughout the text. Kingfisher is only human, and all writers (myself included) make typos. However, I was disappointed to see that Kingfisher's editor didn't catch and correct these typos, sometimes to the point where it was distracting (e.g. sometimes there were moments where first-person thoughts should have been italicized, but weren't). In addition, the book does feature a romance and a love triangle, and I felt both things could have been handled better.

As for the romance, it's clear from the get-go which two characters are attracted to one another / will end up together by the time the duology is finished, and when I say that I mean that by the third or fourth chapter they're already musing to themselves about how attractive they find the other. (In fact, the obvious hints start even earlier if you consider musings about wedding ring scars, among other things.) It feels incredibly rushed and a bit forced, but thankfully that tapers off once the journey gets underway, and perhaps even the night before the journey gets underway considering an inconsiderate (to say the least) comment one of them makes. From there, they're able to develop the relationship more naturally, though since one character's PoV dominates most of the book up until the point the romance starts coming to the forefront again, it suffers a bit from Telling instead of Showing with regards to the other character.

As for the love triangle, it's probably my exasperation with love triangles by this point, but I find it unnecessary. Two of the characters have a previous romantic history that comes to light again in this book when the one not involved in the pivotal romance starts growing possessive and jealous. Personally, I would prefer it if this issue was resolved by an OT3, but I have a strong feeling that's not what awaits me in the second book. Regardless, I was exasperated by the love triangle parts and just wanted those bits to be over with, but overall it wasn't enough to drag the entire book down.

Along with having a unique tale with just enough mystery to keep things interesting and compelling characters, numerous tropes are subverted over the course of the text (despite the whole love triangle thing). In particular, gendered expectations are highlighted and then flipped, sometimes even to the surprise of the characters involved. Those moments were especially gratifying to me as a reader, particularly since they didn't feel very heavy-handed.

Overall, Clockwork Boys is worth the read. It takes a bit to get into, but once you do it's hard to put down. The only other thing I'd say about it is that I find it hard to take "Clockwork Boys" as an enemy name seriously, particularly once it's strongly implied that "Clockwork Boys" is simply what those in the Dowager's kingdom call them since they had no other name for them. They looked at the beasts and said, "Those are some big boys, some Clockwork Boys." It's as if the McElroy brothers were citizens in the Dowager's kingdom and were the ones to name the mechanical soldiers they saw. I find it funny, and difficult to take seriously despite the threat presented. Nonetheless, the book is still great and I recommend it to anyone interested in blends of sci-fi and fantasy.

I want very much to write Lockwood cot3 fic, but my trouble is A. I’m an incredibly slow writer and I KNOW most of my ideas would take so long to create, and B. I tend to be most inspired to do AUs, but in this particular case, the cast is small enough that it doesn’t fit with my typical fusion nonsense and C. canon kind of does everything i want already? Like. “Characters are forced to rely on each other in life-threatening situations with very few other support systems and it’s maybe a little fucked up and codependent” is just. canon. already. and they already have meals together and support each other and notice when they’re sad and i simply do not know if i can improve upon canon and/or the other really amazing fic already out there. Canon continuation or slice of life is not my usual thing but it’s what I really want in this case, and that’s weird for me! anyway i have two viable-ish ideas!

One is “Lucy and Lockwood are jealous of George & Flo going on some dates, eventually feelings realizations happens” (and yeah it would be ot3 AND Flo/George because why not and because george deserves all the love!) I like this idea but I can already tell the way I would want to write it would take SO long. Two is basically just. different scenes of them caring for each other? 3+1 with the first three focusing on the three different subpairings (george+lucy, lucy+lockwood, lockwood+george) and then an additional scene of All Of Them. This one seems more doable! I will probably at least try to write this. But also I need to figure out if the books include more info about how George moved in, because i want the Lockwood and George scene to be about George cooking in the house for the first time and I’d love more to bounce off of with that. Honestly could be a whole ass fic in and of itself tbh; how on earth did these two leaves Fittes? I want to know! If you know you should tell me and/or tell me to read the books.  Other preliminary ideas: Lucy+Lockwood either going to an abandoned playset during the day while normal kids are in school, and it’s a little bittersweet, or grocery shopping together and then Lockwood buys Lucy a plushie that reminds her of Norrie? I think the playset idea is stronger but I’m not sure if it’s quite enough of a Gesture -- I’m mapping out different “ways of showing love” for each character and Lockwood’s is absolutely “elaborate gesture and/or buying things”. perhaps Combine the Two, then it’s a more spontaneous gesture and thus makes sense that it’s not quite so grand. Lucy+George is Lucy deliberately making time and space to just Be Around George, I think. The idea i have so far is Lucy wakes up really early, and George has been up all night trying to work something out, and she sits with him and makes him tea and tells him to go to bed, but also doesn't MAKE him, listens while he talks through what he's working on and that helps and then he does go to bed and she covers for him with Lockwood. for All Three of Them my main idea is “game night” but it’s less fleshed out than the other three ideas. I guess the question is how do they show love for each other all together and i mean -- you could do caring for injuries or covering for each other on the job, but that might be a weird note to end on? I don’t have specific ideas for game night, but it is fairly versatile. mm, i dunno, who knows!

My 2020 Fanfic Masterpost

So this year, I reached my goal of posting 50,000 words to AO3. 53,292 words, to be exact.

So. Here is my materpost of all the fics I posted this year, sorted by fandom.

Some notes: I was really proud of finishing “A Thousand Faces”. It’s definitely the most ambitious fic I’ve undertaken, in terms of what I was trying to accomplish between the character relationships and their progression as well as addressing some plot holes and areas of lore that were not covered in the game. “How to Trust an Iceberg” is another fic I’m very proud of. I wasn’t a huge fan of either Miranda or Ashley before writing it, but digging into their characters was really nice.

When I started watching The Untamed, I didn’t think I’d end up writing fic for it, but I ended up writing over 10,000 words spread over 5 fics so uuuuuuh that happened. I got my first Anti comment! Which honestly just makes me want to write more JC/NHS, so good job there, antis. I’m also really happy with how “Small, Broken Things” and “Mending the Broken Moments” turned out since I so rarely write angst, so it was interesting to explore that in my writing.

“The Only Thing You Have To Do Is Nothing” had by far the most hits, most kudos, most bookmarks, and tied for most comment threads. So apparently people liked it.

I’m also super psyched I was able to pull off 50,000 words despite being sick for about half the year, working the first half, in school the second half... yeah. It was a busy year!

spoilers for 5.3!!!

so immediately after bringing g’raha and the scions back to the source, hallura has a total breakdown in private about how suddenly she has to live with extremely deep love for two people with BOTH of those people now very present in her life (for anyone who doesn’t know i had an extreme crisis about hallura’s endgame ship which i detailed, in part, in this chapter’s comment section) 

to recap hallura’s love life until this point: she fell in love with raha and planned to propose to him before he locked himself into the crystal tower, and then during the events of heavensward started sleeping with aymeric as a coping mechanism. eventually feelings were admitted and they started seeing each other seriously in secret; hallura proposed at the end of stormblood and then they went public with their relationship after the ghimlyt dark. THEN hallura got summoned to the first and discovered her first true love who she definitely never stopped loving was alive and also was very much in love with her, and since then she’s been carrying a guilt over having feelings for two people and it’s been eating away at her

BUT YOU CAME HERE FOR AYMERIC AND G’RAHA’S ROMANCE...so let us begin :)

they actually get to know each other when hallura kind of goes awol on both of them; once raha was done convalescing (she stayed by him every day) hallura went back to aymeric and spent one night with him but was totally silent the whole time, and then the next day she was gone off to ghimlyt to deal with the threat of the sapphire weapon.

except she didn’t come back right after that, or after a few days, and only through the grapevine did either raha or aymeric find out that she’d then jumped over to gangos to help the bozjan resistance. aymeric actually took a trip to the rising stones in secret, where he was found by raha, and that was the first time they met each other...aymeric wasn’t sure what to think (i wouldn’t say he felt threatened but he was definitely uncomfortable) and raha was extremely embarrassed but secretly very enchanted by aymeric (catboy got MAD flustered over him he could 100% see why hallura would choose aymeric)

aymeric learned a long time ago from thancred who g’raha was, though i don’t think he realized how deeply hallura loved raha still, and when aymeric would pay visits to the scions post-5.3, alphinaud and alisaie filled him in on what happened on the first since hallura could never bring herself to, and piece by piece aymeric started to understand just how much hallura was probably breaking over her feelings

and meanwhile raha was dealing with his own internal struggle upon returning to his new body, wherein his more temperate crystal exarch persona was failing to overcome the more hot-blooded g’raha tia’s still-fresh feelings for hallura and in typical g’raha tia fashion he decided to do something extremely stupid and punish/restrain himself by ensuring he saw aymeric as much as possible to remind himself how he didn’t fit into the picture anymore...

it’s during this time (a few months i’d say) that they kind of just get to know each other...and i think honestly aymeric falls first? i talk a lil bit about it here; raha is super hopeful and positive and just everything that brings out the best in aymeric, and aymeric quickly understands just why hallura loved g’raha so much. he drinks big Respect Hallura juice, and even though it’s hard for him to admit, he agrees with her taste - raha is a wonderful person who has a lot of love to give, and pretty soon aymeric is like oh god. oh fuck. well. i guess we’re going in! (definitely inspired to be a little chaotic romantically because of hallura, but the chaotic bi energy was there to begin with) 

raha’s a lot slower on the uptake re: self-penance, but once aymeric sets his sights on wooing raha it’s over for the catboy...raha is too much of a romantic and too SWEET to not just freakin swoon over a tall elegant dark-haired man actively attempting to Get Him. like aymeric he is also very much approving of hallura’s taste, but unlike aymeric he also denies himself hope - so basically we just have aymeric courting (discreetly) raha; the other scions are kind of surprised to see hallura’s paramours getting along so well in her absence but hey man if it works it works and better that then to have them fight yo

but all this time hallura is GONE like she just....she’s gone lol

she only chooses to return to eorzea (a HOT minute later) to break off her engagement with aymeric because she was so so guilty about loving raha still - but she didn’t break it off to leave for raha. she’s determined to give up on relationships altogether and just be single for the rest of her life because she’s certain she’ll never get over either of them, but neither of them deserve to live in what SHE thinks is limbo while she fights her own feelings.

so surprise surprise when she returns and finds both aymeric and g’raha absolutely chilling with each other in ishgard at the borel manor and they’re both reading by the fireplace and she comes in and sees them and they’re both so so happy to see her, and her perfectly rehearsed rejection just evaporates from her mind and she tries to run away again because this has to be some kind of sick joke - 

in this ot3 i attribue most of the communication to aymeric, and he, while thrilled to see her again, straight up is like “no you sit down we’re having a talk right now” and she confesses on the spot she has to leave him and can’t be engaged to him because it’s not fair to him that she’ll never get over raha - which is ALSO a confession to raha that she still loves him (and let’s be real it was clear that she did but g’raha is a river in egypt called de nile and never let himself believe it)

there’s a lot of crying involved; aymeric is obviously upset because he doesn’t want to not be engaged to hallura, and he tells her on the spot that she can’t do that because that’s not fair, and all he wants is for them to talk to each other, and they’re both kneeling on the floor and he’s clutching her shoulders and that’s when raha just gently touches both of them and says he’ll just leave...it’s his fault they’re falling apart like this

and both hallura and aymeric both ADAMANTLY say “NO!” and latch onto him, and then all three of them are crying on the floor and there’s lots of apologies and none of them really know how much time has passed, but eventually they cry themselves out and it ends with hallura’s head in aymeric’s lap and she’s holding raha’s hand and aymeric and raha are sitting beside each other...raha is so exhausted he’s leaning against aymeric’s shoulder

and hallura breaks the silence after a while and says “so where do we go now?” because it’s very obvious that there is no going back to the way things were, and that’s when aymeric clears his throat and admits (with embarrassment) that he’d be open to trying something with all three of them

raha is like Excuse me? and hallura sits up bc what the heck has she missed, and aymeric then admits further that he’s caught feelings for raha and has even slightly been trying to court raha...much to raha’s embarrassment he’s like “you were WHAT? so i wasn’t just imagining it?”

and hallura is like...she can’t even be mad because a) that’s exactly her own dilemma and b) that’s also really hot,,, but while she would be happy to do it everything hinges on g’raha’s consent; and it takes raha a moment to process but honestly when presented with two open hands waiting for him (him, not just any third party) he cannot help but take them with a smile. and i think this is really important for g’raha because hallura and aymeric BOTH actively express interest in HIM, for who he is, there is room in the relationship that can only be filled by raha, and raha is someone who wants so very desperately to belong.

so of course he says yes, and that’s how the ot3 is really born. there’s some more talking about things - living arrangements, scolding hallura for ghosting them for like 3 months, what the heck are they gonna tell the scions - but eventually they settle on a three-way engagement of sorts, and they’re all going to have matching rings and other cute bs

they are very much founded on feelings first!!!!!!! hallura might be the biggest thot in the world who actively makes aymeric into a thot as well but to me there is no way they could have survived as a functioning ot3 if it was not based in emotion. raha is too in his head and aymeric is too much of a thinker for something purely physical to last, imo.

...that is not to say, however, that they aren’t physically compatible - they are most definitely physically compatible. (for content sake i shall keep this post sfw but if you were to send an nsfw ask...i’m just saying i will definitely answer 👀)

dynamic wise (and this is where i get meta, the characters fall into these roles without necessarily realizing it themselves LOL i love being the writer) the ot3 can be summed up like this:

aymeric: the thinker (left brain LOL)

raha: the dreamer (right brain LDKJGLSKJD)

hallura: the heart

raha & aymeric represent the rationality of the relationship and do a lot of talking, a lot of planning, and a lot of smiling together. they’re the leaders, so it’s in their nature to have a game-plan for things. raha inspires the best in aymeric: his enthusiasm is infectious and really stokes aymeric’s determination, and aymeric draws a lot of strength and inspiration from raha’s own knowledge as a leader that coexists with his belief that mankind is worth saving. there is an EXTREMELY healthy amount of mutual respect here, and these two are absolutely the “romantic looks over papers that they could honestly care less about” plus aymeric finds raha’s allagan nerding ADORABLE; raha is just absolutely smitten with how charming aymeric is and very much admires his determination to overcome the obstacles set against him, and how aymeric loves his people despite ishgard’s very prominent flaws.

hallura & raha represent the spontaneity of the relationship - they don’t let their feelings control them per se, but they’re the ones who really say “screw restraint” and push the relationship into the unknown - exploring new parts of the relationship, experiencing the world together, excitement for growth and change. these two are allergic to stagnation and are constantly striving to be dynamic (in my piece “fade” i touch on how i think raha’s controlled crystal exarch persona gives way to his younger, more carefree self, in a good way) and they serve very much as the relationship’s “light”, which is not to say that aymeric is not bright for them, but hallura and raha are more like the sun as aymeric is like the moon. these two are the “batteries” of the relationship and keep things exciting and fresh.

hallura & aymeric represent the confidence and assuredness of the relationship - they have spent a LOT of time together already and have a very good grasp on what they like, what they want, etc. they are both quite confident in themselves and they uplift raha from his insecurities to show him just how much he’s worth. when confronted with outside criticism or scorn these two are the ones who stand their ground; they have the experience to show for their commitment and they’re very much teachers in the way that raha is still a learner. they are also the comforters - aymeric is very good at soothing, and hallura is very good at talking someone’s ear off to help them feel better LOL these two are the romantically matured ones and they set the example for give and take of the relationship.

it’s not always perfect, there are definitely spats and each has their notable quirks. hallura is the fighter, and if she doesn’t understand something she’ll call it out or say something, and that can be a little abrasive; raha has a lot of self-confidence issues and has trouble vocalizing his needs, which leads to some miscommunications at the start; and aymeric has a tendency to ice people out when he’s upset and while he’s the logical one he is also the one who remembers stuff - THIS is the grudge holder LMAOSDKJFLLGLHSLDKFGLJ 

but all in all i think they balance each other out relatively well! i will admit that i worked really hard to find a dynamic that worked realistically for them - i was terrified of just slamming them together because it was “easier”. i told myself if i was going to write an ot3 i was going to do it justice, and besides the relationship dynamics are just that much more fun to write especially for someone like me who delights in exploring the details of every interaction LOL

BnHA Chapter 249: Todoroki Taco Night

Previously on BnHA: Nothing happened at all, because the manga was on break last week! Fortunately the anime had finally resumed after a billion years (estimation; exact length of time may be slightly off), so we had that to take the edge off in the meantime. Except we didn’t, because the anime also ended up going on break due to a rugby game or some shit. So that was nice. On a related note, when I die I’d like the Basement arc to lower me into my grave, so it can let me down one last time.

Anyway, Endeavor did some mentoring and gave Shouto and Kacchan a power-up assignment and told Deku to work on Air Force to help him master the fine control he needs for the Bloop. Then Fuyu called a week later and was all “HEY DAD, DINNER, OUR PLACE, TONIGHT, BRING THE KIDS.” And then as previously mentioned, we waited two whole fucking weeks and MY GOD, my body is ready, on to the new chapter we go!

Today on BnHA: Shouto, Katsuki, and Deku are cordially invited to Todosmith Farms for an evening of food and fun! They make it approximately six minutes into dinner before Natsu loses it and exits with more theatrics than a spurned reality TV show contestant. Baku and Deku spend the next hour being all “!!!” at each other back and forth, and whispering about how fucking dramatic the Todorokis are, which fully kills me and is my favorite thing ever to happen in the world. Deku then begins to guide Shouto through his personal healing process like fucking Mufasa booming at Simba from the heavens, and meanwhile Endeavor listens in while quietly kneeling before HIS DEAD SON’S PHOTOGRAPH, IN THE SHRINE THEY BUILT FOR SAID DEAD SON IN HIS BEDROOM, and sorrowfully wishing he could do more for his family. Anyways so I’m in ruins now, but otherwise fine. How are you?

well it’s Thursday morning, and I have just seen the picture of baby white-haired Touya because no one in this fandom knows how to fucking spoiler tag (and that’s on me too for browsing the BnHA tag on a Thursday; I know better, but I was just curious how this new group chat thing was working out), so here are my immediate thoughts

we never actually confirmed that the hair color correlates to their powers, huh. we just assumed. but come to think, there’s no reason why someone couldn’t have mom’s hair but dad’s quirk. it’s all Shouto’s fault for being a perfect 50/50 split and thus making everyone assume that THAT’S JUST HOW IT WORKS. damn you Shouto and your dramatic character design

anyways I tried not to look at the pic for too long -- once I realized what I was looking at, I averted my eyes -- but he does look like Dabi, I think. oh shit guys. it’s really fucking happening

and I also didn’t get a good enough look to determine whether this was a photo of Touya (that Deku or whoever happened to spot while visiting the Todochester Mystery House for the much-hyped dinner) or a flashback image (in which he is just standing really fucking still for some reason and staring directly at the camera), so I guess we’ll see. but anyways, Deku and Kacchan didn’t come all the way down to Todoroki taco night to not have their evening peppered with intricate family drama and reopened wounds and hysterical conspiracy theories, so you had better keep them goddamn entertained! lord knows the Todorokis don’t do small talk. this is literally their only way of spicing things up so their guests don’t die of sheer awkwardness while Endeavor sits in stony silence and Shouto just stuffs his face with soba all night

36. What are they good at? What hobbies do they like? Can they sing? 

Nat’s a pretty skilled negotiator from her years as an attorney. As an extension of that natural (and honed) charisma, she’s pretty good at acting, too. She took a job in college part-time doing voice-over work after a friend of hers recommended her for the job. She took a few theatre classes in school as well. I think if her life had gone a bit differently, she could’ve been really happy as an actress. Other hobbies: gardening, which she isn’t necessarily good at at first, reading (mostly comics and graphic novels as law school really burned her out on staring at walls of text), and singing. There’s like a 50/50 chance she’s actually gonna sing nice vs. singing in a ridiculous voice. I think she might get really competitive with board games, too.  41. What’s their sexuality? What do they find attractive? Physically and mentally? What do they like/need in a relationship?

Nat is bisexual/biromantic. Until the evolution of the OT3, she’s always considered herself as strictly a one-partner person. And I think that’s sort of a unique situation where she happened to meet the right people (Deacon and Mac) at the right time for that to happen. I think she’d only want a poly relationship where they’re all mutual partners. One night stands are not typically her thing. Most of her romantic history has been a string of kind of intense but short passionate relationships until she started dating Nate.  Nat needs someone who can go toe-to-toe with her, either intellectually or through cleverness, or wit. She also kind of needs someone relentless because she’s incredibly stubborn. I think she’s a passionate person who kind of craves that passion in return, but also needs someone who’s going to be the soft place to land. She’s had a lot of people leave or be taken from her in various ways. The most important thing a partner could give her is that reassurance that they’re in things together. As for what’s attractive to her/what she likes: a devilish smile and some quality sarcasm hahaha. Sultry whispers. Confidence and a fair amount of ego/bravado (assuming that it holds up through the banter gauntlet), particularly in someone’s voice and stature.

nia. even though they are soft and full of love, it takes a while for kara and brainy to realise friendship has grown into romantic love. so it’s a lot of mixed feelings and awkward moments and pining before nia decides she’s had enough and all of three of them are being dumbasses standing in the way of their own happiness. she invites them both over for a movie night and it’s a DATE and when they both show up she tells them it’s a DATE. A ROMANTIC DATE. “are you-” A DATE. “i didn’t think-” A DATE. THREE OF US ON A DATE. WE’RE DATING. and then it finally dawns on them that they feel the same way and the confusion is over and it’s time for a soft and snuggly movie night

3. Who is the most romantic?

they all have unique ways of being romantic and expressing affection but kara and brainy do get competitive trying to out-romance each other and nia is the impulse control is this relationship so her being romantic is usually more understated and subtle but still meaningful and sincere and they are both completely swept of their feet.

Z - Zzz how do they sleep together?

   Venomous rarely has downtime, but when Cat can finally find a moment to slow his roll down enough to get him to sleep... It’s a lot of them clinging to him while Venomous sleeps any way he pleases. On his side? Jetpack. On his back? An arm draped over his middle, head resting on his shoulder. Once Cat’s actually knocked out and asleep... They’re bound to wake up in many ways, from being tangled together to back to back. (Cat tosses and turns, but Venomous only turns every few hours when restless; otherwise, he’s pretty still.)

   And when Venomous won’t get to bed? Post-collaboration with Boxmore? Well then, they’ll just go to bed with Boxman! Nobody really minds this, since Cat and Boxman get a cuddle buddy out of it and Venomous can continue to stay up until he’s done with his work.

F - Flirt do they flirt? If so how do they flirt?

   Flirting isn’t as common as it used to be with him...but with his new partners, Venomous got back into old ways. Typically, actual lines still aren’t too common with him- saved for special occasions (to fluster either party, of course)- but he flirts moreso in the way of compliments purred into the ear or a lavish date night for Cat and Boxman. Maybe a few more joint-projects added to the pile for good measure.

   Cat flirts in being, well, flirty! Tails waving side to side happily or stroked underneath a chin is a common way to see them be flirtatious. They also like being a bit bold and demanding when wanting to be held; their favorite way is to be “the evil foxcat being pet in the lap of the villain”, even if they’re more humanoid than full animal. (Liking to be pet instincts don’t go away, regardless!!) There’s also the cheek-licks, on that note... Venomous is always playfully annoyed by the act, but Boxman melts for it.

   Boxman is more a platonic figure to Cat in the trio, but they’re still close. (In shown that Cat will let him pet their tails, a HUGE deal for them; only people they trust can pet their tails.) So it’s actually not too uncommon for Boxman and Cat to be playfully flirting back and forth on downtime, Cat seated on his lap as they giggle and talk and flirt.

   Venomous will admit to it being rather cute. (While Fink pretends to throw up and the bots gush over their parents.)

L - Love when did they realize they were in love?

   Cat fell for Venomous fast. He had that charm to him that drew them in and then kept them in his corner. They fell for his voice, his hair, that flicker of a serpent-like tongue, the smug, confident grin he would get in pride over his latest creation.... Everything about him got Cat good, and they never wanted to resist him.

   It took longer on Venomous’ side. For a long while, he saw them as the perfect pawn in his fight against heroes. They had all this natural power...and for what? To give up so easily at being a hero? It made him burn with jealousy, but also see the potential for manipulation, if he played his cards right.... Yet, as time passed, he slowly gave up on those ideas without consciously realizing it.

   Fink loved them, though she’d never admit it. They played videos game together, baked sweets and left some for Venomous to have as a snack (if he so wanted), made food together (also packed away for him to eat), and even helped him out from time to time. Cat became a crucial part of his life and plans, without him ever realizing it!!

   It was all kinda sealed once he made the deal with Boxman. Cat softened up his heart again and Boxman reminded him why he loved being a villain. Boxman also got charmed by Cat in no time flat, only further cementing their role in both villains’ lives. And if someone is beloved by the boss...then they’re quickly welcomed into the robotic hearts of the bots, too. So it’s all a chaotic little family, with the only downside being Cat still hasn’t entirely let go of their heroic roots, still making time for Carol and KO. (Moreso that they learned KO is Venomous’ kid and wanted to be the one to make an effort to connect. Plus, he’s just...such a sweet little kid. Reminds them of why they wanted to be a hero at all... Because of sweet people like him.)

   (...And Boxman actually does have feelings for Cat, he just. Doesn’t know how to address it. (And I’ve been debating for a while on if this was going to be an OT3 for the longest time.) Once he figures out how to bring it up with Venomous and ask Cat out, he will certainly try!!!)

I want to see that shopping trip. Basically just an excuse for fun shenanigans in a thrift store. I was thinking very new relationship for Dean and Cas, early days. Bonus points if Sam and Dean have some kind of game they've been playing in thrift stores across the country since they were kids, and if Cas comes up with some super goofy outfits. :D

Kiibouma is a very close second and Kiirouma is ot3 they all have such intense chemistry and personalities and all respond to being overwhelmed by their feelings in different ways. they all have prides and shames and complicate each other with their emotions once they realize they feel something a little deeper than expected. OPINION  ON  TRUE  LOVE.  Miu is not the type to think about love in the moment when getting together with someone; she’s initially just looking to feel good, to please and be pleased, even if she’d like to try to keep the former under wraps. however, if she encounters someone with actual genuine interest and affection for her, oh god, this girl is a wreck. she doesn’t know how to handle it. her mind will run wild with fantasies about how it’d be nice to have cute smart kids and be a hot, gorgeous mom and have a family to take care of. on the other hand if she’s the one who first realizes her feelings for someone else, she has an absolute meltdown inside and gets slightly ruder towards the object of her affection, terrified of them finding out how she feels. being vulnerable gets her hot but it gets mcfucking scary if she’s wondering how her budding love feels about her. she’ll be in complete denial and try her best to exude her usual confidence but you’ll catch her taking more of an interest in how she’s being perceived by that special someone. IDEAL  PERSONALITY  TRAITS.  however she’s treated, Miu just wants someone to understand the light and the dark of what she wants. she likes being stimulated intellectually too, so someone with similar interests and who can keep her from getting bored by bouncing ideas off one another with is the ideal. UNATTRACTIVE  PERSONALITY  TRAITS.  overly secretive types, or those that gossip behind people’s backs-’at least say it to my face, bitch!’-is the type of person she is, even though she’d probably tear up if someone did get in her face like that. the sole exception is when she’s defending someone who’s being picked on for being ‘different’ in some way; this girl will fuck it up for you if she senses a kindred spirit in someone being excluded if it’s someone she understands personally. she doesn’t stand up for just anyone though, but if she’s in your corner she’ll throw down with absolute vitriol and defend you and sing your praises until you forget whatever was said about you. IDEAL  DATE.  she likes arcades! if you can win her a stuffed niko niko happy from a crane game she’ll jump for joy like a child. she’ll also have a lot of fun trying to suss out what makes the machines tick and give out boatloads of tickets, and make a game of not getting caught. there’s little she won’t do if she has her eyes on a prize. she also really likes any date that involves a great view of the city, like ferris wheels or a skyscraper restaurant. she’ll cackle about how the people below look like shrimps one moment but eventually get quiet and caught up in the moment and lean on you contentedly. OPINION  OF  PUBLIC  AFFECTION.  LOVES IT. on the receiving end it makes her feel like her partner isn’t ashamed to be with her, and like someone’s proud of her enough to show it to the world. on the giving end, she loves the idea of flustering her partner and then smirking at anyone who happens to watch as if to ask ‘are you jealous you filthy animals’ ahaha PAST  RELATIONSHIPS.  as mentioned above, occasional flings here and there. non-sexual ‘dates’ with older guys that offered her money were also a thing when she was a little younger. but probably the most damaging event was a childhood ‘friend’ who she’d actually kind of fallen for, only to find out he was too shy to outright ask her to sleep with him so he put up this whole charade of boyfriend experience until he could sleep with her and then ghosted on her afterwards. the emotional commitment from her end that got left in the dust ended up royally fucking up her sense of trust and she since avoids letting on when she actually cares about someone like the plague if she can help it.
