5, Sometimes Size Can Be Misleading (Hangster): Bradley might regret not being able to be a dragon rider at times, but he did enjoy his ability to control one of the toughest, meanest, ruthless, dragons to inhabit his home on North Island.

6, We Can't All Be Perfect (Hangster): Bradley struggles to wrap a present.

2024 fandom review!

Fics Written

In 2024 I wrote 19 fics in 7 fandoms. 14 for young royals! I posted 263,562 words and I have about another 70k in docs. This makes it my most prolific year by about 100k 😳 I think it's easier for me to write more when the fic is longer because coming up with the fic takes me such a while. Have to rotate the concept around a bunch.

My most popular fic of the year was written for the rally for palestine raffle occultings organised that I helped co-ordinate and it raised 17k USD. It was a DC Comics fanfic where Tim Drake gets taken by Ra's al Ghul and meets Jason and Damian still living there and then shenanigans.

small sidebar into the kudos just because i always want to challenge numbers supremacy. My most kudosed fic this year is that DC comics fic with 591 kudos and my least kudosed fic is a Warchild fic with 3 kudos.

I watched Young Royals at the end of March and started posting fic for it in June, which tells you how long my research process is. also going through the 5 stages of denial. I knew I was actually writing something when I was like okay how DOES someone buy a plane ticket with no last name.

ok actually im review my chats and on APRIL FIRST: 'I don't have a fic idea but I do have a vision of a scene where Simon has won like best newcomer at whatever the Sweden art awards are' lakewjlsdj. oh my god. 9 months later.

Character Writing Exercises

I was going to make this a tagging game & include my taglist, but it's pretty involved and I don't want anyone to feel pressured to do it if it's a chore/they don't want to/it's not helpful to them.

Below are some exercises I find really, really useful for pulling brand new characters out of my ass. Barring that, they're fun to do for existing characters as well!

Paint a picture of a character by describing their bedroom while they’re not in it.

Whip up a new one right now, fall back on a tried and true OC. Or a canon character; I’m not the boss of you.

Shuffle a playlist on your music player of choice. For whichever song plays, describe what you “see” with your imagination.

For those of you who struggle to “see” imagined things, just tell me what’s goin’ on in that beautiful noodle of yours. Also, please tell me the song so I can listen to it while I read this part!

Describe a character by turning out their pockets.

what has it got in its pocketses?

An abandoned and unlocked phone (or wallet, if you wanna go back a coupla decades) has been discovered in a ratty little diner bathroom. What’s in there? What does it tell us about its owner?

Think photos, payment methods, notes, messages, Internet searches, receipts, etc. If cell phones and Waffle Houses aren't things in your character's world, pretend they are.
