For the au ask game!

OKAY I wanted specifically to get to the pokemon au from the ask you sent, it's been cooking a bit so it's time to see what comes out of the oven, so... @azol-otl ty for the ask!

Crossover au's are all about the fused worldbuilding for me and speculating on how characters from universe A would fit into universe B heehee hoohoo - and for Batfam especially it's fun to think about the equivalent of their roles as vigilantes! What kind of people have the same level of celebrity, the same sideways seeking of justice?

Naturally this leads you to the gym leaders because a) it's the most fun and b) they are like. Quasi-law enforcement/educators/professional athletes depending on how you try to translate the innate child's perspective on the pokemon universe into something that makes sense as an adult lol ilu pokemon. [insert 'compels me though' gif here]

SO with this in mind, here's 5 fun facts (that are mostly backstory lmao) from a jaytim pokemon au I would write

I'm deeply ill about pokemon so this one goes under the cut lol:

Jason Todd used to be the Champion. He won the role after Dick Grayson quit a year or two before (Dick had been getting older and chafing under the League rules - meaning he'd been chafing under how Bruce ran the League) and was a fierce competitor who didn't believe in going easy on anyone. His Houndoom was a force to be reckoned with, and despite running a mostly Dark-type team, his Honchkrow cleaned up anyone thinking their Fighting-types could sweep. He looked after the League and Gotham with a cocky, self-assured attitude and the win record to back it up. .

Jason disappeared suddenly at the age of 15. Many assumed him dead, after a Rocket (Or whatever Gotham themed gang name we want to go with lol could be Team Joker) bombing in the area he'd last been seen, but he's officially declared missing. Bruce Wayne took back the duties of interim Champion as he once did for Dick Grayson, but he's not quite the mentor he once was. It's obvious he's grieving, and that he doesn't want to mentor any more twelve year olds. Dick signed up to be a Gym Leader shortly after this, returning from his trip about a year early to help out in the chaos following Jason's disappearance. .

Enter Tim Drake. Tim's gym challenge wasn't all that interesting in the circuit at first; he had a rocky start and had to retake a few gym challenges. He wasn't exactly sweeping on his first try every time like Jason had done. He didn't have the meteoric rise that caught the Champion's attention early, didn't get one-on-one mentorship or face-to-face meetings, cautionary advice and congratulations all rolled into one from Bruce Wayne himself - but Tim had patience and grit, and he paid attention. He was gunning for the Championship, and it wasn't just so he could prove himself. Team Rocket/Joker was still out there, and Bruce needed all the help he could get. He was always better for Gotham when he had a Robin. .

Dick had been nicknamed Robin for his all-Flying-type team and especially his Natu-then-Xatu; Jason followed up with his Murkrow-then-Honchkrow; Tim's Rookidee was one among many (Robin-esque pokemon were popularized by Dick and the trend remains through Tim's day) so he wasn't considered a possible Robin successor until it was a Corvisquire and he was about to face Dick Grayson himself, a badge away from Victory Road. By then, Tim and his team were a well-oiled machine (he runs mostly Steel-types lol but also Normal-types for the unexpected adaptability and the 'underestimate my rattata i dare you it's in the top peRCENTAGE--' of it all. FEAR.), and his loss-record had all but frozen while his win-record ticked higher and higher. .

Shit finally goes down about three years after Tim has become Champion and all but bullied Bruce into mentoring him (he basically said 'if you don't watch me, i'll go find Team Rocket/Joker on my own' and triggers all of Bruce's child endangerment traumas simultaneously) and the mysterious Rocket/Joker leader Red Hood shows up, bringing the gang out of the shadows in pursuit of a hidden agenda. Identity shenanigans and "wait is that a Houndoom? But he's only been using Ghost-types, it CAN'T be..." and heel-face turns abound. .

(BONUS FACT: Something something, Jason went into deep cover with Looker or whoever he is, that Interpol guy from X & Y (WAIT. LOOKER MIGHT ACTUALLY BE TALIA AL GHUL IN THIS AU HOHOHO), infiltrating the Rocket/Joker gang and going public as Red Hood is the first step in the last phase of the sting. Cue a million tense Jaytim interactions in which Tim is legitimately trying to take Red Hood down and Jason desperately tries to shake him so that he doesn't do anything that forces Jason to blow his cover. There is at least one 'tugged into a tight space to hide them both from the actual bad guys, "wait, did you just HELP me...?" "Think whatever you want, babybird"' interaction because I am a slut for the first sprinkles of a redemption arc that is rife with UST fufufu)

a ship I have with said character: honestly? not sure. he isn't really a character I think about ships with very often, but I will say the potential friends?->enemies->more enemies->lovers arc there with MC is kinda tea.

a BROTP I have with said character: this is just me being a Team Meteor stan but I enjoy thinking about headcanons with his relationships with the Meteor cast. his banter with Blake is entertaining especially.

a NOTP I have with said character: I don't really have one I think! same with before re:shipping for him. I usually don't see Fern+Hardy romantically, though-- I've seen that a few times before so that was the only thing to come to mind.

a random headcanon: although he doesn't seem the type, he names all his Pokemon carefully thought out nicknames. he just doesn't call them that in front of other people because He's Got A Reputation to maintain, but he's a softie for his Pokemon. I can talk an essay about how Ace/Fern friendship is important to me too but that is not for now unless I am asked.

general opinion over said character: honestly he's a lot deeper than he appears on the surface imo! he's painted as rather easy to hate, so I think people usually give him a worse rep than he deserves (I still dislike the Beryl Bridge scene, but I think giving people chances to grow and learn from their mistakes is important.) he's really interesting and has a lot of character depth, and I think he's neat and deserves better from the fandom.

Now the question is; given her own... peculiarities, what does she know?

Fine then. Even if the region won't take kindly to Fatui presence so soon again, the situation begs for an answer nonetheless. So an excuse about business trips and whatnot thrown to the wind, the Harbinger treks her way across the national borders. She doesn't head straight for the city—even if intel is likely to be better there, she doubts she can walk through the gates without a blink.

The girl consults the map in her hands, an annoyed sniff slipping. The outskirts, villages... There's apparently one nearby enough. She can start there - and before it starts pouring, judging from the heavy clouds in the near distance—

"Huh?" The voice doesn't register as familiar, not immediately. She blinks up, finding a boy with a giant hat - "Uh, yeah, I know that. I'll be heading there soon."

Another blink. The strange not-memory she shouldn't have overlays, for a moment - the non-existent Sixth had a penchant for big hats too, judging from all the memories of them she collected. Sparse scenes of a young boy, seemingly no older than her, in Inazuman dress and who spoke like—

"—You!" It falls out immediately, once it all clicks. Tonia points an insistent finger at Scaramouche. "Where the hell have you been? No, what the hell has been going on! I know something's happened, because I can barely remember you anymore, you know - compared to everyone else, who just straight up doesn't!"

18. Little Dark Age, by MGMT 69. Grizabella: The Glamour Cat, from the OLC cast recording (haha, i had no clue what character i'd write little dark age to, but then i saw my 69th song... perfect, i'll just write about griz. XD)

The longer she kept it a secret, the more it felt like a thorn stuck in her paw, a pulsing ache deep within, hurt and fear over and over every step she took. Whenever she laid her eyes on another cat, all she could think was they don't know what I'm planning to do. How could they not see it in her eyes, in the way she moved, how her heart pounded just thinking of the prospect? It was a scary secret to keep.

Grizabella would not be a part of this tribe much longer.

She had to leave - the junkyard felt too small for her, and she'd never reach her true stardom here. There were cats who had offered her opportunities beyond her wildest dreams, a chance to act Shakespeare like Gus did, a chance to become famous throughout the entire feline society... things she couldn't turn down.

And she knew no one else in the junkyard would understand - but it was difficult, naturally, keeping secrets from them anyway. It was for the best, Griz would tell herself; they'd only try and stop her, try and slow her down... they would get jealous and take her place, even. All of it was too risky.

But her secret felt like a little pebble in her soul, hard and unrelenting, rattling around and reminding her that she was doing something bad, no matter how you strung it.

But she was going to be a glamour cat. That sounded so nice, didn't it? Grizabella, the Glamour Cat. Ruler of the West End, sought after during pantomime season, revered by cat and human alike. So she kept her secret, holding it close to her heart, the day approaching one day when she'd leave, shake out the thorn, toss away the pebble, and never look back. It would all stop hurting then.

Beginning of the Relationship

This man is a sweet talker to the max

He's just over the moon that you chose him out of everyone else and so he just has to lavish you in all his love in return!

That and it's hard to shake off the flirty persona he's had for so long. But you don't seem to mind it so he just uses it to his advantage

But he's kind of a brat about it. He won't lie: seeing you lose your composure over him fills him with a sense of pride. No one else can turn you into a flustered mess like he can

He also likes to try different pet names out on you, paying careful attention to which ones elicit a reaction. And then he strictly uses that pet name to refer to you, even in public. As far as he's concerned, "Darling" is your name now!

But if you try to flirt back, he'll either 1) be virtually unfazed by your attempt (nice try, though, you're cute) or 2) feel his face turn red as he struggles to find a witty response. Congrats, you've broken him!

You always manage to surprise him, which is something he thoroughly enjoys. It makes him that much more eager to one-up you the next time

Kaeya is still the same flirt as ever, but now he's a lot more toned down with his romantic gestures

He doesn't want to overdo it or make you feel like he's putting on an act around you. He knows you're satisfied just having his attention, and he's more than willing to give it to you

His gaze is much softer now, and he looks at you with a visible fondness in his eyes. The sight leaves butterflies fluttering in your stomach

He's realized you find his sincerity most attractive, so he focuses on making you feel wanted and loved (something that deep down, he aches to feel, too; good thing he has you <3)

You can say his love is like a mixture of sugar and spice. He riles you up with actions like his breath fanning against your neck, but then he presses a sweet kiss to your cheek, reminding you of how much he loves you

This man has absolutely no rizz lol

Every time he's managed to fluster you so far has been completely by accident (his good looks and attractive voice work wonders for him)

Most of the time he doesn't even know what he did to make you blush, but seeing you turn shy because of him does something to his heart

He will be thinking about it all day to the point where he'll be tending the bar and Kaeya will have to snap him out of his daze (all while teasing him because that's what brothers do)

Honestly, you tend to successfully flirt with him more than he does with you, but he has no complaints about it

He does, however, try his best to find ways to make your heart skip a beat. Whether that's by gifting you flowers or treating you to dinner, he wants you to feel as loved as you make him feel

If he's really in need of ideas, he begrudgingly asks Kaeya for help. He might even read some romance novels to get inspiration

Established Relationship

Though still awkward and clumsy at times (he tries too hard, bless his heart), Diluc has made great strides in his flirting abilities

He's learned that it's best to just let his heart guide him. It helps that he just harbors so much love for you that he unconsciously shows it to you through his actions

He's also aware that you really like when he wears that one outfit during his shift at Angel's Share, so he shows off a little by rolling up his sleeves or tying up his hair, all while sneaking a smirk or two your way

Knowing that he's the only person that can render you speechless sets his heart ablaze

But Diluc can only do so much flirting before he ends up becoming the flustered one. Your expressions are just so endearing. It's not fair!

And when you look at him like he's everything you've ever wanted, he melts. He scoops you up into your arms and whispers the depths of his love to you

He'll do all that and more to make you smile. Anything you want. He's already yours, but he'll prove it if he must
